Jason Kidd beefed his way into being called a "coach killer"

- Jason Kidd may or may not have gotten his coach fired when he was with the New Jersey Nets. We'll leave that up to your judgment. He DEFINITELY had beef with coaches, though, and carried it with him through several different stops as an NBA player.

"We played golf" will be my go-to line if I ever have beef with someone lol
also add in that you had dinner and lunch with the guy don't forget that
No lie 🤣
Not gonna lie, Kidd sounds like a real piece of work.
Wife beaters typically aren't very likeable unless they've got good PR agents working overtime.
“I wasnt yelling it’s your fault for listening” greatest defense ever 😩🤣🤷🏾♂️

@@QuestionEverything562 Depends on how Brave ESPN is willing to be.
As a diehard Nets fan the three year run of Kidd and Kenyon Martin doesn’t get enough retrospective attention outside of NJ. Those teams are legendary here and the stories, from the turnaround, to the beefs with ownership, the playoff dominance, the off-court dramas, the move and more have never been fully mined. Obviously biased, but I think that could make for a hell of an interesting doc.
A Nets/Kidd doc covering 2002-2007 would be gold. I would watch that in a heartbeat.
Kenyon gets too much credit. J-Kidd was the sole engine
Yeah it’s legendary…. There. Lol
@@Watchingvideoslikeu Kmart was Mid! Good role player but that’s it.
@@nocturne311 secret base has one. It's linked at the end of this video.
A pretty weird dichotomy how one of the most unselfish, prototypical PG’s in NBA history, who made everyone on his team better as a floor general everywhere he went, could also seemingly carry himself in such a selfish, almost toxic like manner off the court and within the organization. Some of these stories make Terrell Owens look like Tim Duncan by comparison 😩
He literally admits it lmfao. Listen to any of the numerous podcasts he's done since retiring
Kidd never outgrew his last name
summary: kidd acted like a grown ass kid his entire career. got it.
At least he seemed to mature when he was in his 2nd Mavs stint.
Grown ass kidd*
I’ve always said Jason Kidd looks like the villain from a mid 90’s Disney Channel movie
The fact that he played with braces in college is an achievement we should recognize.
Loved Jason Kidd as a player. Great mind. He had a lot of influence too. But as a coach, I really wish he'd just be an assistant. Though it would be funny if a "coach killer" like him gets canned in the same way, especially if the Mavs don't improve. Then he'll know how that feels. 😅
Honestly after watching the Kidd-Jackson-Mashburn beef, maybe he just easily recognizes bad qualities in coaches and knows how they tank a team. He didn’t have a problem with Carlisle. Or maybe he just likes being in control. Only Jason Kidd can say
Karma's a b****
@@benjaminwaters275That's one example of like a dozen coaches, lol. Have you heard one coach saying how much he liked coaching Kidd? Kind of strange no one has since he played 20 years and was a first ballot hall of famer. As far as his early Mavs years, Motta coached almost 2,000 games in the league. Nelson traded him, who's considered one of the greatest coaches/GM's.
@@benjaminwaters275He didn't have public beef with Carlisle as a player, but he got his current job after the Mavs pressured Carlisle into 'resigning'
The Mavericks have become super woke with their diversity hire practices within the organization. I wonder how long it will take for them to investigate more into Jason Kidd's history of domestic abuse and DUIs. I get a strong feeling that the Mavericks will fire him after this season. It won't just be because they lost in the 1st or 2nd round.
I feel like this video confirms that Jason Kidd is kinda frightening. I can't imagine what it was like to be married to this guy.
Dude’s a wild card
Why? What yall mean about him?
his time on the Knicks was pretty good at least
It’s bittersweet when Secretbase covers the early 2k New Jersey Nets. Back to back finals appearances. Then 20 years later we probably have the greatest scoring team ever and the opportunity slips again. I do think we are headed in the right direction w the rebuild and some of these young players.
Then management cut most of the team to cut costs. Sad.
they should trade mikal while he's great and recoup some of the picks that they spend because damn it looks bleak
Lmao sick rebuild. The Nets are a poverty franchise
The nets will never consistently spend, and consistently spend intelligently. They'll always be dollar store tier nba franchise. Sorry.
I had no idea that Kidd got the Bucks coach fired so he could coach the Bucks. Always learning something with Secret Base.
Kinda sounds like this year's Bucks......Doc mentor role for Griffin who gets mysteriously fired so He can take over haha.....what's in that water up there Milwaukee
"Coach Killer" is one of those things that, just the fact that you are accused of it, kinda already makes it true.
Honorable mention: Deron Williams (RIP Jerry Sloan)
🎯🤣
Magic Johnson was accused of such too.
@@CrazyxEnigma j.kidd actually was arrested.
@@lk5388 For domestic violence yes. What does that have to do with other players having the coach killer label?
@@CrazyxEnigmaIt's true. Magic Johnson got Paul Westhead fired. Some people think he got Pat Riley fired from the Lakers as well. Riley getting fired from the Lakers was more of James Worthy & Byron Scott
Fitting last name for him. Such a kid
Seth putting in that work as always
Those 90s Mavs teams were truly awful

Would have liked to have seen him go to San Antonio and tried that with Pop.
After the Bucks Kidd was an Assistant Coach for the Lakers and won the title with them in the Bubble. Then he went to Dallas the next season.
Anyway, great research/video (as usual)!
And the whole time he was here the common theory is Vogel was set up for failure to be scapegoated and Kidd would take over upon his firing.
Vogel was given an abnormally short leash it's embarrassing how much longer Darvin Ham's is and he has no redeeming qualities he's about as bad as Boylen and Beilen were for the Bulls and Cavs respectively.
@@CrazyxEnigma Kidd being anchored to the team as assistant is exactly what scared Tyrone Lue away from the job. I'm guessing the Lakers would love to have him right now.
@@SmoothCriminal12 The shorter years and complete control the Lakers wanted to have over who became his assistants rightfully pissed Lue off. Our ownership overcorrects on any mistake they've made. I'd rather have any other coach past or present be here instead of Ham, Del Harris would be doing a better job and there's a reason he never saw a HC gig again after he was fired in 99.
@@CrazyxEnigmaDel Harris was fired by the Lakers so Phil Jackson could coach them, but why hasn't Del been hired since then?
@@pheo1418 Because he wasn't that good and actively hindered Kobe's development as a player, Magic also called him an idiot right to the press when he came back to play in 96. Y'know when Kobe scored 62 in three quarters and outscored the Mavs single handedly? Harris was an assistant on their bench.
Jason Kidd: coach killer
Lebron: hold my beer
Lebron is an everything killer.
I agree, but at least after coaching LeBron, you know you're going to get another head coaching gig
@@iwishiwasthomasshelby Mad
It’s kinda funny that LeBron has that reputation given that the only Coach who was fired undeservedly (with his involvement) was Vogel, and he still had clear issues. Namely that he refused to actually change his offensive strategy at all, which is a common problem for him (one one team that was ever top 10 in Offensive Rating in his entire career). Even with Durant, Beal, and Booker, he’s barely to top ten now with the Suns, and wasn’t for most of the year.
Blatt was a complete idiot, Brown was fired after LeBron was already a FA, and Paul Silas was fired by Dan Gilbert right after he bought the Cavs, because Gilbert is a racist fool. Lue outright left partway through 2019 after going winless and proving he couldn’t handle a rebuild, when LeBron was already gone.
Idk, as a lifelong Cavs fan who has seen LeBron come and go for his whole career, it seems more like a post-hoc media narrative than anything of substance.
Lol this is powerfully stupid 😂
Say what you will about being labeled “Coach Killer” it’s better than “Wife Beater”
I always love these videos, they are so well done!
If we can think who is a coach killer ?
The first thing comes to mind is Deron Williams , dude just killed Jerry Sloan's coaching career around 2011.
Man has never recovered from that beef with him.
Excellent video! Love this series
Byron Scott in the thumbnail like “😏” lol
Full circle. This was a great video.
Luka a coach killer? What? One coach left in his 6 seasons... Carlise was there for more than a decade and wanted a change.
B-B-But Luka was responsible for getting him fired!!!
Narratives are funny like that even though it's public knowledge why Carlisle left.
Well done and edited. Good production
Lifelong Mavs fan - while I'm grateful that Kidd helped Dallas win their lone championship, between his early career and his current coaching stint (running Luka into the absolute ground), he's barely coming out on the positive side
The fact that the title is just him vs “coaches” is hilarious
Glad to hear my guy Seth.
Would have been fun to have him on the spurs trying to get rid of popovich 😂
I wish the Mavs would let him go and get a coach that can win championships with Luka, the best player in the game.
New Beef History: Jason Kidd vs A Jumper.
Top 5 all time in 3 pointers made
@@mongoslade277 First of all, he's #15 all-time, not top 5. Look at his first 8 years. Man had no jumper. He only made threes later on when completely left wide open intentionally. He couldn't even dribble into a jumper.
@@QuestionEverything562 I don't disagree. I remember when they called him ason bc he had no J. I think it's one of those stats that don't tell the whole story that's he's ranked top 20 in made 3's
@@QuestionEverything562 Btw I looked it up. Jason Kidd got as high as 3rd on the all time made 3 pointers list. I knew he was in the top 5. In the 2011 season the year he won the chip Kidd passed Dale Ellis for 3rd place
@@mongoslade277 But he is no longer there. So yeah, at one point before the three point revolution. He was in the top 3-5 in career three point makes. I still don't think of him as a good shooter overall. He was a career 35% from three. That's better than LeBron and Kobe I suppose.
10:57 goat sighting!! Dude is an inspiration.
Thank you for listening to me about the video idea.
Jason Kidd has something us hockey fans called "Peter DeBoer Syndrome". He'll bless you with a deep playoff run or have the team surpassed expectations on one or two occasions, but then his coaching style gets exposed and his team's performance slowly wears down.
We need to have a Pep-Mourinho beef history, long overdue
Rewinder idea would be the famous A-Rod walk-off that led to Luis Castillo’s dropped ball. It’s an interesting take in that it became a turning point for the Yankees and Mets in opposite ways, and it was iconic transition point for both franchises. Plus, we are getting close to the 15th anniversary of that moment.
You guys should definitely do some collapse videos. Those are really cool to see how good teams fall apart so hard
I love secret base

that ending was class
It seems that JKidd more so has beef with people named “Scott” and “Jim”.
hey secret base, could you please do a rewind of the 2008 nfc championship game? that eagles-cardinals game was exciting
You could probably put a 2-hour Scott Skiles beef video together.
This got hilarious at the end summarizing his head coaching career.
People forget Kidd was an assistant on the 2020 Lakers squad
He beefed with Rick Carlisle too before the championship! And of course we all know what a great coach he is now lol. Just a really weird guy.
I can't even sarcastically get with this... kidd is such a terrible coach... HOFers players are terrible coaches

I wonder how “blindsided” Larry Drew was when his son moved out of UNC in the middle of the night after Marcus Paige took his spot?
Explain to me how Luka is a coach killer when his ONLY coach resigned?
have heard of a lot of public trade demands but this is the first time i heard of one that wants another guy traded 😂
On the court He is the best player Ive ever seen . He was in the 12th grade.I was 9 years young. I didn't encounter him off the court. Off the court Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson, Leon Powe and Brian Shaw was cool.

Damn it’s June 2024 and Jason Kidd is coaching a team in the finals😂
Well well well… how the turntables…
Kidd is a Bay Area and NBA Legend but an average coach. I think he would be a better college coach. And this is the best narrator, keep him for all the videos.
BRUH THAT ENDING 😂😂😂😂
Coach Killer as a player and Team Killer as a coach
Lol "Hit Me..."😂😂😂
From what I recall, Capanelli was overheard berating a player in the team room by the AD, and that was the turning point. Kidd wasn't the player in that case.
Amazing they post this while he's on thin ice as a coach 😮
He was a coach killer after he got hired in Milwaukee too
Carlisle resign one day after Donnie Nelson was fired. How do you guys come to the conclusion that Luka is a coach killer ?
I'll be charitable assuming they got that headline from somewhere else and didn't make it up themselves, still ridiculous they even put it into the video just since it's funny in an ironic way Kidd could be in the same position as the coaches he beefed with were.
When the origin story of Jason Kidd being a "Coach Killer" dates back to college that's something that can't be denied and made worse when family speaks up on his behalf.
I hope this channel survives long enough to make a beef history with wemby and chet.
guys at Secret Base, please lower the background music volume a little bit
Not to mention killing his own coaching career
Now know why he didn't signed with the Spurs, he realised he can't manipulate Popovich.
I think it had more to do with him knowing it would be an all time weak move. 2nd in MVP votes to lead his team to the finals and then join the team and player that beat him for both a championship and MVP? Would've been as bad as KD to the Warriors. Edit: He is on record saying he regrets not doing it if that means anything.

I always forget about Jason Kidd the player. Weird. None of this video, nor everything Ive learned about Kidd outside of basketball really surprises me lol. He kinda just seems like the type of guy to do all that stuff.
It is good to see that that long ago Kidd was thrown out due to domestic violence charges. There should be no room for that kind of behaviour and violence in professional sports. One and done.
