Some beautiful shots of this scenic line, which hopefully, before long, will make a rendezvous with Shepton Mallet.

Wonderful video Paul. Hope you had a nice Christmas. Watching the 4110 slowly chugging along reminded me of the children's poem "I think I can I think I can". It put a smile on my face. Great job. Thank you.👍

      Thank you Daryl,
Yes, that's so true about the Prairie going up the bank there!
      Cheers!

What a delightful video, which came out really well despite the weather.

      Thank you Faith!
      Glad you enjoyed it.
I did have to hold on to the tripod on a few occasions here - it was extremely gusty!
It is a lovely line - very scenic too.
      Take care,
      Paul

Happy Boxing Day Paul - greetings from Poland
What a wonderful video. Superb camera and sound work. If only we had "smellervision" too!
The Prairie tank did a great job. What a shame about the weather though. It didn't spoil my pleasure at all.

      Hello Michael!
I did have to hang on tight to my tripod a few times when I made this video! It was a lot windier than it looked!
It is a lovely little line though.
Hope you had a Happy Boxing Day - I have another video arriving later today.
      Take care,
      Paul

Yes, I had a lovely walk in the Cotswolds, which I filmed too. Fabulous day yesterday - weather is a bit different today!!

Lovely video Paul. I lived and worked in this area for a few years as a community mental health professional in the 1980s, so very familiar with the small towns and villages you mention. It's good to hear about plans to reconnect some of them. Happy New Year to you Paul, and look forward to more of your wonderful videos.

      Thank you so much!
Yes, the Mendip Vale is an attractive area with much of interest.
It would be great if it is linked up with Shepton Mallet again.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Great video,Paul. I visited Cranmore station on my way to a holiday, staying at Shepton Mallet. I wanted to visit Wells, Bath and Glastonbury, which I'd never been to before. On the way back from visiting Laycock Abbey, it was absolutely awful full-on raining, and I had intended to travel on the railway, but the weather was just too bad! Maybe 2024?

Yes, it is a lovely little line.
Hope you get a chance to go on it next year - just a few days to go to 2024!
      Cheers,
      Paul

Nice video .the weather doesn't have to be good with these videos and these old railways are great places visit when the weather isn't favourable .
You must have quite a bit of toing and froing to get all those shots that day .😉

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you Shaun!
Yes, I was there for eight hours - I arrived before it officially opened, but they let me in so I could start filming.
There was a lot of tooing and frowing as you can tell - I probably walked more than on one of my walking videos. But, there is always a good atmosphere around these places and you get to really appreciate all the hard work that goes into looking after the entire line.
      Thank you Shaun!
      Cheers,
      Paul

Very atmospheric video Paul. And nostalgic for us old 'uns. Shame you didn't get to meet Santa though.

      Thank you!
Yes, Santa was in the platform building on the other side, which was only open to ticket holders - they had sold out sometime ago.
      Glad you enjoyed it.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Mornin' Paul, The sound came across really well on this one, I didn't notice the wind at all.
I was lucky enough to have gone to Barry once and walk through the lines of engines. Many of which were painted indicating that it was reserved for particular preservation societies. This would have been just after 4110 left for preservation though.
That footpath looks like a photographers heaven, the line looked steeply inclined at that point.
Always great to see the sights and sounds of steam, a lovely stocking filler!!
    Have a great Boxing Day

      Thank you David!
Yes, I had a great walk on Boxing Day - weather was wonderful, unlike today! You can see my Boxing Day right now! Just published the video of it.
That must have been an incredible sight seeing all those locos for scrap at Barry - thankfully many were saved. I wonder if Dai was a secret train buff?!!
The footpath, which I only noticed by chance from a sign saying about its temporary nature when I was filming on top of the overbridge, is a real boon for photography on this line, as you say. It was too boggy to make it all the way to Mendip Vale Station though - I didn't have waders with me!
Hope you have an enjoyable remainder of Christmastime.
      Take care,
      Paul

@@westcountrywanderings Hi Paul, back home now after a few hectic days in Valencia. I posted some of the photos that we took at Barry about a year ago, If you would like to see them let me know.
Christmas goes on forever in Spain we're still celebrating it on the 6th, the day of The Kings when the kids get their presents.
Tomorrow is the equivalent of April fools day this is actually comes from the religious commemoration of those children killed by King Herod after discovering the birth of Jesus. Known as "The day of the innocents", quite how it became a day for jokes isn't totally clear though!!

Thank you for your hard work on this video- to be there so long to get the shots you wanted shows how dedicated you are to bringing us the absolute best. I’m so pleased the East Somerset Railway recognised you! Let’s hope they can extend to Shepton Mallet outskirts.

      Thank you Diana!
Yes, there was lots of running about in this one to get the shots from different locations.
I really enjoyed my day here - I will go back to another heritage line in the spring when they reopen for the new season.
      Thanks for watching!
      Happy New Year,
      Paul

I've always wondered about the sign at Yatton station for the Strawberry Line whenever I see it on the train on the way to Weston, so thanks for this 😊
Really lovely shots of the trains too!

Yes, I keep meaning to do the hire a bike thing at Yatton - one for the future maybe?
Thanks for watching Jesse and commenting.

Great video once again. How about doing the story of the Black Prince at Cranmore, how came back under its own steam from Longmore, the diesel broke down.

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  6 месяцев назад +1

Thank you - glad you enjoyed it.
It seems both of David Shepherd's two original locos, including The Black Prince have had varied restoration stories, and not all good, since they left the East Somerset Railway.
I think, after being passed from pillar to post after leaving the ESR, The Black Prince (I think David gave the loco that name when he bought it) currently languishes on the NNR in East Anglia. It has been restored, but not sure if it is currently used.
The Green Knight, I think, has been out of action for sometime, at least 8 years, following a crack in the firebox. It was on the North York Moors Railway, but there is a rumour that is has been moved elsewhere recently.
I don't know anything about the military railway incident at Longmoor, Hampshire though.
      Cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul. A lovely look at this rather remote line. I paid it a visit quite a number of years ago, but it may be out of my reach as I don't drive anymore. I liked the way they blew the whistle each time they passed you. Nice touch . I really hope they can extend the line in the future. Happy New Year to you.

      Thanks Lionel and Mary,
Yes, it isn't an easy place to get to via public transport, unfortunately.
The engine driver of the steam loco recognised me early on in the morning and asked me when the video would be up on RUclips.
It is a really friendly line, and they could not have been more accomodating with my filming.
      Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year to you both,
      Paul
