The 2023 Genesis G90 Is A World Class Korean Flagship Luxury Sedan

  • Опубликовано: 1 ноя 2022
  • With the all-new version of the flagship #GenesisG90, the upstart Korean luxury brand has its sights set on the best from Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Audi. For 2023, the #G90 gets the same cohesive design elements as its very popular smaller siblings while adding its own set of presence securing its place as the flagship vehicle in the lineup. The #Genesis brand may only be 6 years old, but this vehicle proves it has the goods to compete with the best from Europe and Japan.

    Haters may still continue to hate, but Genesis is doing things we expected stalwart brands like Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti to do in the world of flagship luxury sedans. Expect an all-electric version of the G90 to show up in the future as well. We also have a comparison test between this car and the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class posting later this month, stay tuned!

      Now back to the main topic before you pivoted. "Once a Hyundai always a Hyundai." I'm assuming you meant that Genesis won't be able to escape it's association with Hyundai. I stated that Lexus was successfully able to do so. What is your argument against that?

    I bought a brand new 2020 G90 Ultimate 5.0 and couldn’t believe how great that car was. The downside is you don’t get Genesis-level service, it’s Hyundai-level. Yes they have an incredible warranty on paper but you don’t have to look hard to find plenty of people who are having legitimate warranty claims denied. I never had to file a warranty claim but I had all sorts of trouble with scheduling maintenance. I called for an oil change in January and was told they could get to me in March. The issue is Genesis requires the car to be in a certain mileage window to do the oil changes so when I asked what they recommended I do with the car for 3 months, their reply was “park it”. Not exactly what I wanted to hear with an $80k vehicle. I sold it shortly after and bought a Yukon Denali. Couldn’t be happier. Until Genesis gets their service problems sorted, I won’t even consider one of their vehicles.

    Absolutely STUNNING. Genesis has very quickly become my favorite luxury brand over any of the established players. Their designs are fresh yet stately & handsome. Their interiors are STUNNING and high tech without being busy & don't rely completely on touch screens, and the fit and finish, and bang for your buck seems unbeatable. Their designs stand out so much more compared to some of the boring or busy designs some of the Germans and Japanese have!

    This car looks good, but it doesn't have a Korean identity. For example, sure this might look and try to feel like a Rolls Royce/Bentley, but those are European cars with European-esque feel. Sit into a Lexus LS Executive package, you get a Japanese style luxury car. Lexus uses Japanese terms to describe their cars such as "Takumi" for craftsmanship and "Omotenashi" for experience/feel. This is why Lexus is successful, it has a Japanese identity just as how European luxury cars feel "European." Genesis is nice, but I want to see more Korean inspired look and feel. This car imitates European Luxury cars well, but it needs to have its own Korean heritage. They have money to do this and show the world what Korean luxury can be.

    I am thoroughly impressed with KiA/Hyundia & Genesis. This conglomeration is impressive. I rented a 2023 Kia K5 with the 1.6L Turbo 4 - cylinder engine. I was VERY skeptical that this car had the beans to move this rather large vehicle around with some semblance of gusto. I was wrong. This car is almost too powerful at the higher end because the torque just pours on with a sublime smoothness that I have never seen in an engine of this size. Bravo KIA! I will also say that I cannot imagine how explosive the 2.5L turbo version of this vehicle would be to drive. A downside - the brakes need improvement. On the 1.6T model I tested, the brakes were soft initially, but it doesn't have the necessary bite at 80% of brake depression to inspire confidence. My take? I would be love the 2.5T version of this sedan but I fear I will get a SUPER speeding ticket. Lovely cars but if you have a heavy foot like me speeds will built so quicky you can easily and I mean easily get over 100mph without blinking an eye and that's with the 1.6T engine!! KIA/Hyundai/Genesis is AMAZING. But work on those brakes. That is the Achilles heel.

    Thanks for the review. This appears to be the best kept secret in the luxury segment, exceeds Lexus and rivals the Germans. Can you change the settings so only the driver door unlocks ( vs all 4) when using the fob? I think if they don't touch a thing and just make it an SUV, it would give Lincoln and Cadillac more than a run for their money and could lure Range Rover drivers as well.

    i’m definitely not a hater of this car but I think pricing it upwards of $100,000 and increasing the price substantially from last year’s model really takes away some of the value that was baked into the brand. Genesis to me has always been attainable luxury, and this price increase, though understandable, has taken some of that luster away.

      @meowchat6175 Год назад +5

      @naveenthemachine the Lexus LS500 will outlast all of its competitors and retain its value no matter what, and that's why Lexus will always have a strong following. The Genesis, on the other hand will quickly lose its value and break down as so many have already. Genesis is notorious for their malfunctioning vehicles that tend to self combust without warning.

    I owned the 2011 Hyuandai Equus but we purchased it in 2014. It had low miles when we purchased it. I think it was still under 90,000 or less miles when we sold it. I loved that body style. I like the Genesis 2023 front grill but I’d prefer the 2019 or 2020 rear. I prefer the 2011 rear body style. It’s just a preference if that makes sense.

    I love the distinct styling and the interior is gorgeous. I think this vehicle is worth it's asking price. For many competitors you're just getting started for $100000. I would take this over every competitior in the class. The S Class would be close. I still think Mercedes is more polished and refined overall. This is like 8 tenths of the way there. The engine is somewhat of a let down. For all the complexity the performance/fuel efficiency isn't that much better than the V8. The longevity of a system like this is questionable. But I know people in this segment don't keep these vehicles long. The only major issue I have with The G90 isn't the car itself, but the fact there's few stand alone dealerships. Thefew I see look like they will rival anything from Germany or Japan. But imagine buying a $100000 Genesis next to a $20000 Elantra? I'm sure Genesis dealers are expanding but in the meantime that's the reality. But Genesis is on fire. They've done more in 5 years than Acura, Infiniti, or Lexus

    Make no mistake...The beautiful seats, self-closing doors, and all the other exciting tech the 2023 G90 boasts makes it quite a desirable car [for the super-rich]. However, all that abundant tech equates to a high chance of some feature malfunctioning. Plus, the turbochargers of the Twin Turbo V6, combined with the supercharger, will induce serious wear on the engine. Hence, the owner of a G90 will likely spend more time in the waiting room of a repair shop than enjoying its vast features.
