I mean $200 is an entire days salary before tax if you make $50k a year, so its def a lot of money. When I started working on cars, for the first 5yrs or so i was making $25k a year so half that!

My first car was a Punto 188 and the welds on the brackets between manifold and the rest of the exhaust routing wasn't sealed, needless to say it rusted like hell. when it finally broke, my car sounded awesome for exactly two weeks when I had to replace it for TÜV (mandatory vehicle inspection in Germany every other year)

Also, the cabin should be airtight, so he already has another problem. Just imagine driving in heavy rain or through a water-filled pothole and all of a sudden your carpet is soaking wet. So no, it's not about killing him, it's about the awesome sound of a big engine without muffler.
Man, it's so great to see that you are doing all these repairs in your driveway on your back, like a lot of us do! I have access to a shop I can use anytime I want, but it's a 40 min drive from my house and all my tools are at home!

I spend 3 hours and 250 bucks on the parts and tools I need and I did it myself I just can't believe it was this cheap because I took my car a week ago to a repair shop they recommended I change the whole exhaust pipe in total that was around 750 bucks thanks dude for giving me the courage to do it myself and save couple hundreds.

Just be aware that changing exhaust gas flow may cause other issues if you car is designed to run with back pressure (like effecting engine performance due to changes in exhaust scavenging or may effect catalytic converter performance) , my car tripped some codes when I had a holey muffler for low catalytic converter performance on the post cat lambda sensor. Personally I'd rather keep everything stock as allot of design goes into balancing the exhaust system for peak efficiency and performance (some people fit a massive muffler, it sounds good but in reality they actually loose engine power).
@@ryanjohnston4405 another tip to reduce drone is to use a resonator in place of the muffler, it makes a massive difference especially at highway speeds

There`s a reason for the spring loaded bolts. This connection is kinda flexible due to the graphite sealing ring inside which glides in the panned tube nearby. After this fix it is not longer flexible, which maybe causes tension in the exhaust system and issues like breaking, blowing pipes.
Hell by the time you buy all the tools needed to do a wrong fix, may have well taken it in for quick fix for 40.00, or welding. I like Chris' stuff but average car monkeys are Not going have or have the money to buy extractor kits, wheel jacks and cut-alls on hand. Disappointed with this video.

Love this channel - great camera work, great narration, great timing, great editing, and funny too! No annoying music, intro or outro. Also the trick with the hacksaw is something I wouldn't have thought of. And those things to get rounded bolts off - wow! Now I feel like I can fix my exhaust :)
I guess it's worth mentioning that it's harder than it looks like. So there's a chance that you may stuck with partially dissembled exhaust and having few rusted bolts that are not going anywhere. Combine this with axle stand/constant bench press position, much more angle grinder work and maybe bad weather conditions doesn't make that easier. If it's your first time, think of a plan B if you fail, and if there is a chance to find column lift or at least a pit, I'd go that way. Some pipes are trickier than others. Imagine that you have to cut off the flange, but there is no room for any couplers.

7:09 WOW, I really wish I knew about this tip during the 2 years I worked at Jiffy Lube! I had my own technique for removing those sockets from stripped drain plugs, but this looks WAY easier! I'll definitely be using this technique next time! Thanks Chris
If you do not have a powersaw, I can recommend a pipe cutter chain. It is almost as fast as a powersaw and you always have enough space for it, which might be a problem with a handsaw.
Huge thanks for the video! I needed to do this on my 2007 VW Passat and your video really helped. In fact, until watching it, I had no idea exhaust could be done without welding.
Good video! I just have two tips I'd like to add that may help you and others. Heat the female side of the fastener instead of the head of the bolt. You want the female threads to expand away from the bolt. Second is to always start removing the exhaust at the rear. This way it maintains some more rigidity so you're not working on a part that's flopping everywhere. Same goes for assembly, start at the front and work backwards.

Chris. That is a spring flange on the Mazda to allow for movement. Think of it as a flex joint. Your fix will now not allow for that movement and will cause failures somewhere else along the exhaust.

@Judy 21 y.o - check my vidéó straight pipes sounds ok most of the times. It doesn't adds the horrible sound of fart cans and adds a little growl or roar to the car. I have a straight pipe muffler delete E36 325i (still have cats and resonators) and sounds nice to my opinion
Chris is a nice good guy, a real gentleman with warm heart and full of kindness. However life is not easy to Chris. Somehow his cars and family car or friend's car always encounter problem. Sometimes leak blinker fluid, sometimes loose muffler bearing, sometimes broken piston return springs, and so so many weird things. God bless Chris to keep the dinosaur doesn't drink all the coolant in his car.

Go for it! Just make sure you make it exit all the way out the back so it wont drone! Keep the stock muffler just in case too!

Remember how we were in talks of designing some custom turn signals for your hummer. Emailed back and forth a couple times and then you asked for designs. I took my time to make some designs and then you never got back to me. Real cool dude here.

Yes that was using products to "clog" the leak. This is wayyyy different.

There`s a reason for the spring loaded bolts. This connection is kinda flexible due to the graphite sealing ring inside which glides in the panned tube nearby. After this fix it is not longer flexible, which maybe causes tension in the exhaust system and issues like breaking, blowing pipes.

Hell by the time you buy all the tools needed to do a wrong fix, may have well taken it in for quick fix for 40.00, or welding. I like Chris' stuff but average car monkeys are Not going have or have the money to buy extractor kits, wheel jacks and cut-alls on hand. Disappointed with this video.
@@325-k9k Except that 99% of the tools would rust from non use being for only the one job and therefore a waste of cash easiest to goto a wreckers yard and get the whole exhaust for nix. Im a Kiwi we hate paying mechanics to sit around doing diddly squat for $65+ par hour

I guess it's worth mentioning that it's harder than it looks like. So there's a chance that you may stuck with partially dissembled exhaust and having few rusted bolts that are not going anywhere.
Combine this with axle stand/constant bench press position, much more angle grinder work and maybe bad weather conditions doesn't make that easier. If it's your first time, think of a plan B if you fail, and if there is a chance to find column lift or at least a pit, I'd go that way.
Some pipes are trickier than others. Imagine that you have to cut off the flange, but there is no room for any couplers.

7:09 WOW, I really wish I knew about this tip during the 2 years I worked at Jiffy Lube! I had my own technique for removing those sockets from stripped drain plugs, but this looks WAY easier! I'll definitely be using this technique next time! Thanks Chris
If you do not have a powersaw, I can recommend a pipe cutter chain. It is almost as fast as a powersaw and you always have enough space for it, which might be a problem with a handsaw.
Huge thanks for the video! I needed to do this on my 2007 VW Passat and your video really helped. In fact, until watching it, I had no idea exhaust could be done without welding.
Good video! I just have two tips I'd like to add that may help you and others. Heat the female side of the fastener instead of the head of the bolt. You want the female threads to expand away from the bolt. Second is to always start removing the exhaust at the rear. This way it maintains some more rigidity so you're not working on a part that's flopping everywhere. Same goes for assembly, start at the front and work backwards.

Chris. That is a spring flange on the Mazda to allow for movement. Think of it as a flex joint. Your fix will now not allow for that movement and will cause failures somewhere else along the exhaust.

Also just wanted to let you know you were one of the many reasons why i pushed myself to do my first engine swap and learn as much as I can through trial and error and dedication! It would mean the world to me if you just scanned through any of my videos of my engine swap or even just my first start up video! I know you are a busy man, thank you for everything though! I put a cammed 08 4.6 motor into my 2003 mustang gt. So many hours of being on the ground under the car and so many moments of wanting to give up but I pushed and pushed and I finally have it started!

@Judy 21 y.o - check my vidéó straight pipes sounds ok most of the times. It doesn't adds the horrible sound of fart cans and adds a little growl or roar to the car. I have a straight pipe muffler delete E36 325i (still have cats and resonators) and sounds nice to my opinion

Its crazy how Chris keep us watching the videos, just talking because we never see he's face,but we like and believe on he's job 🤣🤣🤣.
Chris is a nice good guy, a real gentleman with warm heart and full of kindness. However life is not easy to Chris. Somehow his cars and family car or friend's car always encounter problem. Sometimes leak blinker fluid, sometimes loose muffler bearing, sometimes broken piston return springs, and so so many weird things. God bless Chris to keep the dinosaur doesn't drink all the coolant in his car.
