Several tips I have to note that might help 1. Unlock combat focus nothing is better than making the world slow down and you get a damage boost depending on its level is great for amping damage for most if not all weapons. Prime example of this is using a the silenced pistol and instead of using a potential 15 bullet clip to just harm a phantom use combat focus then unload that clip and notice you probably have a few bullets left in fact. Also useful when you have to get by something fast even sneaking wise. 2. Also later in neuropsy is a great perk allows you to harvest typhon parts beyond the first couple pieces granting better recycle amounts and more crafting of advanced plans. 3. While hacking is great I can admit do not trouble yourself to much with it at first get to rank 2 and that should do pretty good for a long while 4. Weapon kit out the incapacitation rate and range on the GLOO cannon, nailing an enemy from the other end of a long hallway definitely makes it easier to run up and hit once with a nice tap with our trusty wrench apply a shot of GLOO to make sure they stay nice and still and repeat. (Warning strong wrench attacks break off all GLOO use strong on last strike or else risk having phantom pain in a few short seconds) 5. Amp up the damage and reduce the stamina drain on your wrench attacks knocking phantoms or even random operators can be a mighty fun laugh when you have a deadly creature laying on the ground allowing you time to get some GLOO on them or even wail their health away with your destructive swing. Also just a cautionary note do not be afraid to switch chipsets out sometimes they are life and death difference. Example: wow this fire resistance chip sure does not help against this electricity flinging jerk oh wait I have a chip that helps with that. my own dunder head moment reminded me why I was struggling so much. Hope these tips help been playing since it came out yesterday I do not want people to suffer like many of us did in the first dead space game.
tip: Don't invest too much on the abilities that give you powers like the mimics. If you do, the turrets that you thought were your new best friends, they will actually attack you. As their sensors identify you as one of the aliens in the game.
That's...actually a pretty clever mechanic/consequence. Of course, it won't stop me from obtaining my life-long dream of becoming a sentient coffee mug.
I've been playing Prey since it got released last night about 9 hours in now. One big thing that has helped me thus far is using the recycling grenades to get rid of heavy objects if you don have a high enough leverage.
fukkkkk, why didnt I think of this. there was a treasure trove of goodies in the hardware labs locked behind leverage 2 crates. Also there was an email I found that said the recycler grenade fabrication plans are in dr jorthestiens quarters, soon as we get that, resource managing will be easy
Use explosive tanks instead of recycling charges. You still move shit out of the way and don't risk destroying countless lovely items and messing up cool game scenery
As a word of advice to anyone who is about to get I to this game...invest neuronods into the medic 1 and 2 perks asap! As it will allow you to get more materials from mimics to make plenty of neuromods early on, also it boosts medkit recovery so that's always nice as well. Also Gloo Cannon is your best friend early on and can be used to get to many otherwise inaccessible areas early on to grab plenty of goodies. Also Mimics will almost always mimic an item in the environment next to them so if you see two of the same item in extremely close proximity or one's knocked over or in a weird position that looks out of place...chances are it's a mimic.
Right when you break out of the Simulated room, inside the room with the safe you can climb the machine on the left side and it'll give you the stun gun, mods, and a health pack
Use recycler grenades to unblock paths to loot if you're not using the strength/leverage mods. Also, upgrade your gloo cannons length of effectiveness so that you can throw explosive cylinders at stuck Typhons!
Best tips I can give you: 1) Pistol with P-Crit++ is 10x better than a shotgun. Pistol > Shotgun. 2) Don't waste your points upgrading your inventory space. Carry a briefcase or some other container as a portable inventory. 3) Use ZERO POINT PSI 19-03WEOS 4) Use PSYCHOLITIC CONVERTER =/~ (Make sure to stock up on medkits.) 5) Recycle everything. 6) Use the GLOO cannon as much as possible. It is extremely useful in countless situations. 7) Do NOT worry about consequences of Alien Powers. The rewards outweigh the risks. 8) Explore. Exploring is really important in prey, not only will you find hidden locations and lore, there are weapons and other items hidden in places the average player wouldn't search.
A note about the crossbow; There are also bolts that will let you activate switches and computers that typically would need to be touched by your characters hands.
Be careful when backtracking in this game. Going back to earlier areas puts in more recently discovered enemies. More than just the elemental variations of phantoms even. The elemental variations are no joke.

In the ballistics lab, open the recycler grenade chamber and mill the mimics. Then, grab every single thing you can pick up in the room and stuff it into the chamber. Close the chamber and set it off, collecting a decent amount of materials in the process.
When you first get out of your apartment go into the briefing room to the right and jump up on the tall thing on the left when enter the room same gun and more ammo. Also the briefing room safe code is 5150.

Leverage Lv 1. Invaluable. Can throw explosive canisters AND can move all objects (lv2 and up) by just repeatedly throwing lv 1 objects at them. Best upgrade for a beginner.
System shock. Bioshock. Dead space. Half life. Portal. Deus ex. Dishonored. Wolfenstein. This game is an amalgamation of so many games I certainly hope it carries some characters of its own.
You can actually get the disrupter pistol a lot earlier. When you first get out of your apartment, you come across the first safe. Right across the room from the first safe there are some electronic cabinets - jump on top of those and there should be a briefcase with a note.
You don't HAVE to craft the crossbow: you can find one in the sales department. Also you can recover your bolts so always look around a little after shooting and you can save some synthetic material.
Its a Search Everywhere, if you have cleaned out a room, search and look up and down, there are things hidden on the ceilings, under stairs.. if there is a hole you can climb in go and search it.
absolutely loving the game so far. very dynamic. very fun. so many choices. hardly even touched the main story. the first time exploration of talos 1 is awesome
I've got a tipperino, in the ballistics lab, gather all the movable objects you can infront of that sphere, make sure you've got em piled nice and high, then open the door (if done right the mimics won't be able to get out), then use the recycle nade that's already loaded into the machine to get some sweet sweet mats.
the stun gun is SUPER mandatory for that non-lethal playthrough (for not killing any humans) btw. just adding this if you want to do a "no killing hoomans" playthrough
If you get Leverage III, you can pick up large objects and protect yourself from Phantom attacks, and then throw the object at the Phantom causing a lot of damage. Get Kinetic Blast, it works well against Phantoms, you can finish them off by shooting them at point blank range with a shotgun. Fabricated Nullwave Transmitters, they are particularly useful against Telepaths, Technopaths and Weavers, rendering them temporarily unable to attack you and highly vulnerable from your attacks. Use your psycho scope when a Poltergeist is pestering you, it will locate it for you. The shotgun is probably the best weapon to use against them. You can get inside some places using Mimic, by turning yourself into a small object and moving throw a small space, often on a counter.
1) You should almost never get leverage III, it is a waste of NM. 2) Shotgun is absolutely terrible in comparison to the pistol. You are better off using the wrench in close range encounters.
3:00 Upgrade shotgun with the increas security weapon neuromod can oneshot every regular Phantom Typhon. With that the best tactic is actually to Rambo into the enemy; even the stronger Phantoms (the electricity and fire one) are easy to kill with only minimal life loss. And one tip: always keep your suit at atleast 80-90%, you will find TONS of suit repair kits in the game, so you have no problem doing so.
Tip: the developers made it o where if you're paying attention to small things you're less likely to get ambushed. Example: the trash can falling down the stairs when you reach Morgan's office for the first time. You've already come in contact with mimics so you know there is one more trashcan here than there should be
I just started playing this game a few days ago bc I got COVID and needed something to do while locked in my house, and actually I found a stun gun before the gloo gun. Before where you tell us we can get one. The room with a dry erase board and a safe, first safe you encounter, it's a small room. If you climb up the computers in that room, there's a briefcase on top with a stun gun inside of it
there is actually a closer stun gun when u come across the first room with a safe right after u leave the simulation jump on top of the weird looking giant cassete thingie and theres a briefcase up top with other items as well as stun gun
Sounds rather obvious but the music is something to look out for, a masterpiece that pitches when enemies are nearby to build tension, also serving as a semi-reliable detection service.
TIP: you can get the disruptor gun in the simulation area on top of some tall objects! never ever forget to climb objects out of sight, like speakers and such. they have both good loot AND most likely an easter egg.
I just got the game yesterday and I have to say it is pretty fun, it felt very familiar (cause I've played both Dishonored games) so I didn't spend hours on just learning the controls.
Disruptor stun gun can be obtained as soon as u leave "simulation home". In the room with the safe and neuromod chair, jump to top of a shelve for a briefcase holding this gun
Not ordered by rank just somethings I've found lol. 1) Low on health find 2 water fountains next to each other and very slowly regain your health takes a good bit but can be worth it if your patient 2) In the main lobby after you've unlocked the trauma center and cleared it out create a medical bot and you never have to worry about health again but you do need to keep running there to get free full health 3) Still low on inventory space holding onto a bunch of junk items store them inside a garbage bin and come back for them later once your gonna recycle them or just store them inside a recycle machine 4)Using too much Goo gun ammo instead of holding down the trigger button shoot one at a time to save some ammo 5)Trouble dealing with phantoms if you see an explosive canister near you toss it at them and if you toss it just right you will reduce there health by 85-90% like I said it has to be thrown right in front of them so they can take the full explosion damage and the finish them off with a strong hammer attack or 2 The little I learned from the demo and playing carefully
I cannot understand how this game is getting mixed reviews.... I've just finished 'the video' section of the game and am in love!!! This is a real old-school game! Superior to bioshock imo.
Tip:Plan ahead what u want to spend your ability points because if you dont you will just have them in your inventory for no reason until you finaly decide what u want to take and belive me there have been way to many times where i had points but i didnt know what to use them on
To be honest, the tip number 1 is not that good, you can find the disruptor gun without wasting Goo ammo in earlier game, we have one on the room where you watch your video (the one with a safe, whiteboard and a weird cirurgical chair). The gun is located above a mainframe computer, you can jump there without problem.
@gameranx I have a pretty helpful tip not many have caught yet. Those red fire alarm bells typically hide a safe behind them I can't confirm all do but I've found 3 so far that have. Found this through randomly goofing around, I use the wrench and smack the center of the bell and bam free easy loot I won't spoil what you get but it's pretty nice so hopefully it helps some of you out.
You forgot: smash everything you can. Everything. Because who knows what could be a mimic? I could be a mimic, you could be a mimic, anything could be a mimic. So smash literally everything you can.
Also. There are skills that improve your recycle output and dismantle. The recycle skill produces 20% more at recyclers and with the charges. Dismantle allows you to take apart extra weapons and charges in your inventory for junk and spare parts. Do the ones they mentioned in the video, but try and get recycle early. Means you can get more neuromods later on.
You can get the disruptor pistol on way earlier than they said. There's one RIGHT outside your apartment. Go to the safe room and clamber up the items on your left to find the gun and some goodies!
You can actually get the stun gun earlier than what you said. In the debrief room next to the dry erase board with the safe code wiped off is a cabinet, climb on top and theres the stun gun and a suit chipset.
I know I’m late to the party, but I just finished the game yesterday and I had the pre-order bonus that gives you a shotgun early that helped a lot and it was a cool looking shotgun
biggest tip is just dont be scared unlocking Typon abilities yes turrets will attack you/nightmare consistantly spawns(make sure you fight it outside your office which igwe/mika is located) since several typon has weakness And it give extra firepower to use
Tip: If you walk into a room you think has mimics pull out your wrench for quick and powerful close range attacks as mimics also attack at close range.
stunned enemies and ones unaware of your location take bonus damage so its a good idea to sneak around and set up the fight before you start it whenever possible
well, i'm 18 hours into this game. I didn't grab any health/stamina upgrades at all. Later on there is an ability that lets you regenerate up to 25 health from the last bit of damage you take. Early on get hacking and repair. Also get the mimic ability as soon as possible, it lets you into many otherwise inaccessible areas. Oh, i also killed every single enemy I came across... Even the ones that try and run. So ammo was a big problem for me in some areas. I was left with some recycler grenades and my wrench againsed special phantoms and even the "Nightmare". [I reloaded a lot... I refused to let them, get away]. So make sure to craft lots of ammo, upgrade your guns for damage first as well. Those are my tips.
This is the baby i've wished Half-Life and System Shock to have for years, if you thought Bioshocks skill system was too shallow, but loved it's open ended design, this game is for you :)
There are also a few secrets people often pass I noticed. In the same area with the electric gun is a secret and you can obtain a lot of spare stuff before progressing. I've scoured entire areas and got soooo much stuff... my pistol is almost max and it's OP with the upgrades.... I not too far I would say, about 7hours in and done my first outside space thing and I only just got my first alien alien power and already I've almost maxed the skills before the alien skills to work on.... just from secret areas and he gloo gun... can get to places you are not supposed too I presume because I've climbed and dropped down to places out of reach and found tons
TALK TO OPERATORS (the robots) the medic ones refill your health for free, the engineer ones repair your suit for free, and the science one refill your psi for free
I didnt think i was gonna get prey when the demo came out, it didnt seem like my kind of game, but i just played the demo and... wow that game is terrifying and awesome definitely gonna get it
At the end of the game I just basically sprinted past everyone. Now that I think about it, I could do that from the start. So, take stealth I first, then complete running subtree, then finish stealth subtree and top it off with stamina tree. Then add skills to upgrade the beam gun because it really helps against heavies at certain places (telepath/technopath/weeaver). Boom, done, nothing else is really needed. Can add health and hacking tree to the mix with spare neuromods. And if you want to farm low-level enemies for resources, upgrade your meelee and bash them on the run with your charged stealthy wrench thing (you can sprint to them from behind and run away if you have upgraded your stealth and running skills). Also, leverage III is very useful for throwing huge boxes even at rather powerful enemies like voltaic phantoms. But it is not really needed.
You can also get a disrupter pistol even earlier in the game. Right after you break out of your room through the fake balcony (after the alien outbreak) go into the room where there's that funky looking chair they test you on and climb on the left monitor/block. On top of it you will find a note saying something along the words of - I can't believe you found this and there is a suitcase there as well with the weapon and some other goodies
While savong resources and ammo is good, save neuromods, as well. Also, there is a typhon that is really tough, and can almost one shot you early on, after you get the psychoscope. Do not take any of the abilities that you get from typhons' early on. This will bring that one typhon to you much sooner. Spend the neuromods on suit, weapons, etc., and even health stuff. You will need it. Also, unless you find a certain scope chip, you should lug, always, alcohol around.
the disruptor is actually the second weapon you can get. in the test chamber area at the start is a small room with a neuromod chair and a locked safe. the disruptor is on top the data server opposite the safe, in a briefcase. it comes with LOADS of ammo too.
Biggest most useful tip you can tell anyone is just collect everything and explore (also do all the quests). I have no idea how far I am along (just got to g.u.t). But, this game is really weird, it's not the best game out there but whatever it is this game is really addicting.
you can also drink from water fountains for 1hp at a time if you find a couple side by side you can go back and forth and fill up your hp in a few mins.
U can even use 'em to restore your psi power, like coffee, tea , even the occasional energy drink & yes there's energy drinks called popstar. All bit by bit.
i started a new game last night with no real goal in mind as far as how to build my character, but 9 hours in im a monster wrench wielder who can hack anything and throw giant shipping containers at ya! helps me save my ammo for when i really need it!
I'm not sure if it has been noted, but the nerf darts can also activate computer screens and door buttons. This lets you get through some locked doors because you can see their open buttons through windows.
quickest way to find the disruptor gun is when you break out of your room, there is a room with a computer and safe, if you climb the top of a shelf, you will find a briefcase with the disruptor gun and other goods
You can get the Disruptor Stun Gun in the Simulation Labs, once you escape the sim, in the little Simulation Debriefing Room with the funky chair, there is a suitcase on top of the big computer thing on the left. It has a note and some goodies in it along with the Disruptor Stun Gun.
You can get aschematic and a stun gun earlier by climbing on top of those two crates on the left hand side of the room with the wiped off safe code and wierd chair. I believe it's Marco Simmons office, but many people I've noticed don't get the stunner early because they think they can't climb up there but you can.
I found that carrying around the turrets was too much of a hassle. Its hard to see with them and sometimes you get ambushed before you can even deploy them.
Also turrets are very weak: they can deal nicely with mimics, but for standard phantoms you should place at least 2 turrets, so that one will shoot the Phantom attacking the other. But very early better phantoms will appear, that will obliterate any type of cannon from outside its range. And when Technopaths show, your own cannons will screw you. Do not spend any neuromods on Turret upgrades at all, that's a waste. Another thing is hacking - hacking the turrents and operators is good, hacking doors, computers, safes etc is even better.
theres actually a disruptor thing before the one they mentioned. when you first get out of the apartment, find the room off to the side with the safe and the creepy chair. Climb ontop of the tall shelf thing and theres a note, a stun gun and some resources.
I'm pretty sure that my biggest problem with the skill tree is that I'm going to want to unlock all the "exploration" skills. You know, lift stuff, repair stuff, hack stuff, carry more stuff in inventory, turn into stuff, etc.... And then I'm gonna get wrecked in any encounters. That's gonna be a fun ride.
When you're coming back from fixing the looking glass servers, you'll likely have almost no ammo so don't just assume everything is the same, there were two phantoms that had extra health, a mimic in plain sight and a disguised mimic in front of your door which screwed me over the first time
There's a stun gun in the room to the right after you break the glass, the room that has a safe in it, on the left there is a big rectangular box thingy-on top is a suitcase with the stun gun, just climb up and nab it.
Like when you break out of your room at the start.
Was coming to comments to leave a similar reply. Thanks for covering 👌

Gameranx is very quickly becoming my go-to for all video game coverage. This steam is hustling.
Imagine if Arkane made mass effect o my god
Adam Thompson BioWare did a fine job making the trilogy.
Then there would be no "mass effect" for you to talk about.
@@avinatempest well there is a remaster too
6 hours into the game. Wish I watched this 6 hours ago. lol
Just grabbed this game for 15$ thanks to Gameranx and then there’s a video on stuff to not miss. Damn I love this channel.
the stun gun is SUPER mandatory for that non-lethal playthrough (for not killing any humans) btw. just adding this if you want to do a "no killing hoomans" playthrough
You can also reread emails in your menu I believe. It also keeps a log of locker codes and other info.
Turrets are your friends, not unless you turn into a alien
TIP: you can get the disruptor gun in the simulation area on top of some tall objects! never ever forget to climb objects out of sight, like speakers and such. they have both good loot AND most likely an easter egg.
You know that there are going to be people who are going to do a goo gun only run
1) Low on health find 2 water fountains next to each other and very slowly regain your health takes a good bit but can be worth it if your patient
2) In the main lobby after you've unlocked the trauma center and cleared it out create a medical bot and you never have to worry about health again but you do need to keep running there to get free full health
3) Still low on inventory space holding onto a bunch of junk items store them inside a garbage bin and come back for them later once your gonna recycle them or just store them inside a recycle machine
4)Using too much Goo gun ammo instead of holding down the trigger button shoot one at a time to save some ammo
5)Trouble dealing with phantoms if you see an explosive canister near you toss it at them and if you toss it just right you will reduce there health by 85-90% like I said it has to be thrown right in front of them so they can take the full explosion damage and the finish them off with a strong hammer attack or 2
The little I learned from the demo and playing carefully
Thanks for the hint on carrying around a turret. I't saved my butt a few times.
I cannot understand how this game is getting mixed reviews.... I've just finished 'the video' section of the game and am in love!!!
This is a real old-school game! Superior to bioshock imo.
Prey is definitely one of the best videos I've ever played
+Patrick Ancona I get to bring back the 'ol One-Two combo from my BioShock days!
Got it!
See a human and go:
*LEMME SMASH!*
Thanks for the disruptor tip and the computer tips and the turret one too
I got an ad for Prey before the video lmao
Means you can get more neuromods later on.
well my main tip is anything that fits in the palm of your hand is recyclable including some of the flowers you find around the base
Nah, dude, much bigger containers and reployers are also recyclable...
You can get the disruptor pistol on way earlier than they said. There's one RIGHT outside your apartment. Go to the safe room and clamber up the items on your left to find the gun and some goodies!
Haha someone already commented this fuck me
You can actually get the stun gun earlier than what you said. In the debrief room next to the dry erase board with the safe code wiped off is a cabinet, climb on top and theres the stun gun and a suit chipset.
I know I’m late to the party, but I just finished the game yesterday and I had the pre-order bonus that gives you a shotgun early that helped a lot and it was a cool looking shotgun
biggest tip is just dont be scared unlocking Typon abilities yes turrets will attack you/nightmare consistantly spawns(make sure you fight it outside your office which igwe/mika is located) since several typon has weakness
And it give extra firepower to use
Tip: If you walk into a room you think has mimics pull out your wrench for quick and powerful close range attacks as mimics also attack at close range.
If it's one-on-one especially w/ a greater mimic.
stunned enemies and ones unaware of your location take bonus damage so its a good idea to sneak around and set up the fight before you start it whenever possible
well, i'm 18 hours into this game.
Guys don't just quickly go through areas, you might be able to find key cards, important notes, food, and weapon ammo
This game sounds like a explores' paradise. I'm intrigued. I guess there will also going to be doom kind of secrets/ Easter eggs.
I think this is why i subbed to you!
I always found it fun to make a DXHR turret Friendly and carry it around, and it'd shoot everything for me
You can also get a disrupter pistol even earlier in the game.
Yu can download maps only at security station of each area, if yu gets close enough to it, there will be a blue icon on the map
Recycle extra guns you find for more materials to make more ammo
While savong resources and ammo is good, save neuromods, as well. Also, there is a typhon that is really tough, and can almost one shot you early on, after you get the psychoscope. Do not take any of the abilities that you get from typhons' early on. This will bring that one typhon to you much sooner. Spend the neuromods on suit, weapons, etc., and even health stuff. You will need it. Also, unless you find a certain scope chip, you should lug, always, alcohol around.
"Turrets are your friends."
Depends who you ask... 🙄
the disruptor is actually the second weapon you can get. in the test chamber area at the start is a small room with a neuromod chair and a locked safe. the disruptor is on top the data server opposite the safe, in a briefcase. it comes with LOADS of ammo too.
Biggest most useful tip you can tell anyone is just collect everything and explore (also do all the quests). I have no idea how far I am along (just got to g.u.t). But, this game is really weird, it's not the best game out there but whatever it is this game is really addicting.
you can also drink from water fountains for 1hp at a time if you find a couple side by side you can go back and forth and fill up your hp in a few mins.
nah its just 1 hp
@@trashycannoey but there are usually 2 at a time and it only takes a second to click on them. its worth it to just click a button when walking by one
Wish i saw this before i started my playthrough :(
I found that carrying around the turrets was too much of a hassle.
This game is terrifying I really didn't think it'd be so scary, It just makes me so paranoid
Literally JUST picked this game sooo hypeeeeee!!!!!
When you're coming back from fixing the looking glass servers, you'll likely have almost no ammo so don't just assume everything is the same, there were two phantoms that had extra health, a mimic in plain sight and a disguised mimic in front of your door which screwed me over the first time
The mooncrash dlc is mind blowing!!! Pick it up and you won't be disappointed 😎👍
I've been waiting for this. Thanks Gameranx
