- Fluval UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier | Complete UNBOXING & REVIEW
We take a look at the new Fluval UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier. This is designed to fit on existing Fluval 106/107, 206/207, 306/307 and 406/407 external canister filters. Also it can fit any aquarium external canister filter which uses 16mm pipe.
There will be a UVC unit of this type released for the Fluval FX4, FX6 & FX5 released at a later date.
UVC clarifies dirty, cloudy or green aquarium water by disrupting the DNA of the bacteria or algae that pass by it. Cloudy or Green aquarium water is caused by excess bacteria or algae in the water. If you have green or cloudy water then adding a UVC clarifier is an easy solution
the clear the aquarium water faster than using chemicals or filter media.
The Fluval UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier has a special type of UV bulb which is CCFL, this runs cold and lasts a lot longer than traditional PLS or T8 UVC bulbs. Therefore with the Fluval UVC In-Line Aquarium Clarifier you will not need to change the bulb during the lifetime of the unit (30,000 hrs) whereas in a traditional aquarium UVC clarifier you would do so upto 6 times.

Nice touch with the timer loop spoof, well done Sir.
Hey everyone here's a video on the new Fluval UVC In-Line Clarifier! Let me know what you think of it. I think it has great potential and will introduce people into using a UV where before they may have not thought of it or didn't understand what they do. Also for £60 it's a right bargain and easily pays for itself over long term use of chemicals or special filter media. I will be setting this one up in another video so stay tuned and make sure to SUBSCRIBE to my channel and LIKE the video (or dislike if you hated it).
Was going to get one of these for my reef tank but ended up buying the ehiem uvc instead… can also change bulb when needed and doesn’t matter witch way water flows… these do look cool tho and thanks for sharing…
Yeah it's helpful video thanks for sharing 😃❤️👍
I was just wondering if they made one of these... Nooice! Going to order right now.
Perfect. I also wanted to know if the pipe as included or i had to purchase another one. Great review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Considering getting one thanks!!
Nice so quick to comment beat even me! They seem like great little UV's!
Can not wait for one for fx4
So glad you did the math
great video explination
Thank you
Hi. My submersible pump of my sump has flow rate 2000l/hour. Is it still ok to install this ? The unit says max 1000l/hour
Hello, I have a 90 liter planted aquarium, there is a Jbl e 701 external filter that turns 700 liters per hour on it. With this product, is this UV filter enough for a planted aquarium?
Does this fit 16/22 hose?
Can I use this uv clarifier on the fluval 107
Will this for the marine 360
I wonder if these would help if you were growing out a lot of Buce.
Ha ha lol the infinite ♾ loop button!
😁
I am getting the red light how do i change the bulb I can't get it apart
I’ve purchased a new white cabinet for my fluval Roma 200 but have discovered my tmc vectom uv will not fit in the cabinet unless mounted outside the cabinet.
Watched this review and purchased , these product reviews cost me a fortune haha
Looks great and the low wattage is a winner for me. Especially to replace the 16w tmc unit I have.
And it will fit the 16mm hose on my tetra tec 1200 filter.
I take it the entire unit needs to be replaced after 30k hours ?
Nice! Yes it will however on 24hrs that's 3.5 years, if you run it for less you can save money compared to one with replacable bulbs
Wait so it is essentially disposable since you can't change the bulb? can you just bust the case open and change it yourself anyway?
I was going to get one until the no repair bulb bit , I need something that I can run , and not panic that it might die at anytime, this was going to be for my Discus tank but not. Anymore 🙁
Great review of a really nice product. Does it have a pilot hole to allow one to see if the bulb is operating?
Thanks, I believe there's a light indicator on the timer which shows if the bulb is on
@@EverydayAquarist I don't know how that would work, unless it's a continuity indicator of some sort, but that would be great.
The green light on the timer indicates the bulb is working. Once it’s red means it either has reached its 30,000 hours or so max of its life span or not working.
What is the benefit of using it in a reef aquarium? No green algae at all..
What a great product.
Let's say I've cleaned my glass as best as possible, and then installed this. Can it help reduce other types of algae such as the extremely difficult to clean green spot type?
Thanks
It would kill whatever you cleaned into the water so I guess it would slow it down a bit
@@EverydayAquarist ok. So simply whatever is in the water column I guess. Thanks
Get a magic erase sponge. They get it all. Only a few bucks at the store. The Mr. Clean one.
@@NinjaSushi2 thanks. I worked out I was over fertilizing. Have cut that back.
I actually got a pack of 500 magic cleaners years ago and still have some. Does the Mr Clean one break up after a few cleans ? Maybe it's stronger.
Also got the flipper float, which gets good reviews but I'd say it's pretty crap. The metal side needs many passes, and the sponge side is really no good at all.
The journey of clean glass lol
Do these kill beneficial bacteria?
I have one running on my 38 gallon bow front
I bought 2 of these fluval ubv and hooked them to my 2 fluval 207 filters my tank went from green to see thru in 3 days never had anything so powerful for keeping my tank clean I was wondering though if I could hook a uvb to a fluval 407 or is the water flow to strong for the uvb to work I asked everyone no one seems to know ...
Should be fine for all 07 filters
Hi, is it possible to connect two of these and run them together with one filter? I would like to further increase the dwell time.
I can't see why not
Ur better of getting the ehiem uvc it’s far superior…You can swap the bulbs out when needed and it doesn’t matter witch way the flow goes as it has built in reflectors
Hi. Is this UV suitable for Canister 207 model?
Yeah it's made for it
Just ordered one off amazon due to an ich issue Ive been having. Thinking it will not be strong enough? Thoughts?
It can't hurt
It could. The electromagnetic radiation that counts. It even can cause cancer in human cell by knocking down the DNA. One word of caution; filter flow rate must not exceed the maximum flow rate of the UV clarifier, so radiation will have enough time to hit any microorganisms. The flow rate written on your filter is theoretical. You have to check it yourself by using flow rate sensor or manually using timer.
Should of got the ehiem uvc and feed fish garlic
Hi will one of these come out in 2022 for a fx6 ??
No idea. Sorry
Infinite time loop had me laughing...uncontrollably.
Thank You...Thank You...Thank You
🤣🤣.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Will this work with my 5gl fluval spec freshwater kit aquarium?
Will it kill the beneficial bacteria?
Would want to be able to change the bulb so although the idea is good it is not excellent.
Have it got it, love it, best thing is you can adjust how many hours you want for uv sterilization!!
Hi ! Will it work on fluval 307?
Yup
I ordered one, and on a whim watched this video. Glad I did, because mine didn't come with the sad face/happy face piece of paper. I would've installed it sad face style...
Hi, like the channel, good info and advice... however and not knocking at all but I think people should be aware that when people try to "quick start" their aquariums with chemicals ie bacteria in a bottle.... the fantastic UV filter shouldn't be switched on for maybe a month as the UV not only kills algae it also kills the bacteria as your trying to set up. Not a problem at all with an established tank. Thanks again for the channel.
I have a 30 gallon reef tank with a fluval canister and I'm nervous if this product is going to work or not. 😩 I just have a bit of cloudy water and some Algae on the rocks and sand.
It will definitely help
@@EverydayAquarist I just bought one and it has sort of a burnt smell coming from inside. Kinda nervous to plug it in
@@raul253rmpr how did you get on??
@@TheTechMums what do you mean?
@@raul253rmpr you said you bought it and it smelt like a burning smell?
Does this help with black beard algae?
That’s what I’m trying to find out
does this fit the fx4 tubing size?
No
Instruction manual also shows the installation wrong. Same wrong photo used as on the box.
Will it kill diseases like white spot and fungus ect?
Theoretically it should help, but it's marketed as a clarifyer not a Steriliser (although there isn't a huge difference between the two). It would definitely do something but I can't say how effective it would be
It would if the protozoa/ fungus is exposed to the light . It can even knock down human cell.. A wavelength of 253 nm light wave is a very powerful electromagnetic force.
Good catch on the sad face located on the packaging lmao!
Do you if can be use on fx4 ?
Not this one
@@EverydayAquarist
Thank you
3w? Work?
Yes watch my test video
How would you rub this on the fluval flex marine
Rub?
I ment run
Ah haha you got me thinking as this might be a video coming soon
I want to know if I can run it on my marine but without an external filter
Yes but it will take some modifications from the pump and to be mounted externally
Hi how conect with my fluval fx4?
Not possible
It is possible but you would need pipe reducers and fluval doesn't recomend it but it can be done
But will it fir the fx6????
No
you need some sort of canister to make it work
Why didn’t you demonstrate how to set it up with your pump. We already know what it is used for.
how long does the lamp last and is it replacable , and if so how much per lamp?
Not replaceable as far as I know, bit of a shame but I have read a FAQ that's states even if it's thrown away after 30k hours it uses less CO2 (equivalent CO2 cost) etc in its lifespan than a normal PLS unit with new bulbs every season and higher wattage. Also the unit is fully recyclable. I do think it should be replaceable but maybe there is a safety reason for it not to be...
Don’t worry. My Chinese make is bulb replaceable and it lasts only 5,000 hours or roughly six months if used 24 /7. This one is 30,000 hours; or 3.4 years if used 24/7.
@@joharisalim8484 its not replaceable Johari
So this doesnt work on a fx4?
didnt u watch the video? some people really dont pay attention
Not for me. Never needed one of these as I don't have green or hazy water. Filter floss is the answer or run a second filter which I sometimes do. For me floss is the king. No chemicals added either. Thanks for the video though. It might be an option for the future.
Fair play
I have been using floss too. I thought it’s the best bet until I used UVC steriliser my sceptical about UVC changed 360 degrees. Even the cheap Chinese brand that I had does a very good job in water clarity, way better than floss that I have been using for do long.
BTW I have just ordered this make for my 400 L tank. It’s just a simple chemical free science at work.
@8:04 LMFAO
Would it kill good bacteria?
Most good bacteria will live in the filter and surfaces of thing not in the water so it won't effect them
Pretty sure if that were the case they wouldn't sell them. Theyd be pretty useless.
@@matt79hz what you on about?? It doesn’t matter what bacteria it is if it’s floating around then the uv bulb will kill it
Prolonged, high-intensity exposure to UV light can cause damage to the cones in the retina. This ultimately will lead to impeded eye function, as UV sensitivity decreases after overexposure. Under-sensitivity results in the goldfish being unable to regulate its routine, as they are not able to recognize when they are being exposed to light.
Thats funny that fluval messed up their own packing. No wonder people mess up their equipment because they probably dont read the directions and just use the pictures on the box and them being wrong you end up setting it up wrong as well.
Well I imagine they have realised now due to there being a note in the box. It's possible that they didn't know that having it up a certain way affected it and only came to that conclusion after this production run. However I'm not sure what effect having it one way or the other will have on the UVC but it's safe to say they will change the package on future boxes
@@EverydayAquarist yeah I'm sure they will have changed it for sure fluval is a very good company I highly recommend them all the time especially for canister filters. Great video by the way. Love all the information from all your videos. Always learning something new and I love it.
You want it mounted down.. but on the box ... it’s mounted up... lol... some one getting a pay cut
I guess they realised because all the new graphics on their new videos point down and obviously they included that sheet in the box😂
The problem with this design is the glass sleeve will gunk up over time and be less effective, and it can’t be maintained or cleaned , so it will probably reduce the function, if this was a replacement bulb and the glass sleeve could be cleaned I would purchase one 🤔
My thoughts exactly. If the uv is obstructed by scum build up, the nastys are running through the shadows.
I was totally sold on this item until the part about the "No Way Of Changing The Bulb" meaning that in 3-6 years time it's just another piece of junk to go to landfill. It could of been a great piece of kit if you could change the bulb yourself, but for that very reason, I'm out, poor show Fluval.
I understand your frustration but not many people are going to have their Fluval unit three to six years later. Most people cycle through stuff every three years.
@@NinjaSushi2 Thankfully I’m not most people, I prefer to buy things that last and are easy to maintain, as I said in 3-6 years time this becomes yet another piece of garbage either in landfill or at the bottom of an ocean somewhere around the globe. Some people are happy for that to happen, just not me. All this proves is what a throw away society the world has become, nothing is maintained or fixed anymore, ah just throw it away and buy a new one.
So what's a acceptable time?
I agree.i have one & it's great but I wouldn't buy another "disposable" UV steriliser for the same reasons you highlighted.
Who cares what you think.
Anyone else realized that the image is rong based on the box ! And it says first on paper to install it NOT like one the box !?? Jeez Fluval
How is this a review? Title says "REVIEW". Cant be a "review" if you havent used it yet. Clickbait title.
