Loving the unexpected box throw. So salty. I just have to keep rewatching it.
I don't know if its only me who noticed but Cory looks like he missed his anger management therapy session this week. It looks like fluval forced him to make a video about this canister filter.
Cory threw that box so hard😂😂
And I immediatly liked 👍
Cory using a canister never thought I’d see the day
I laughed so hard when Cory tossed that box! hahaha.
Tossed it like a quarterback lol
Everyone should be doing what you did by default! If someone's dropping money on a canister and just uses it out of the box without looking. Well, you can't fix stupid.
But why so disdainful? With a canister I can have a sponge filter, a poly-fil filter, tons of bio filtration media, and something like Seachem Purigen, all in one. Then I can add lily pipes to adjust my flow or even add a surface skimmer on my inflow. Helping keep my expensive aquascape clean and pretty. They don't have to be everyone's solution in order to be a good idea.
I LOVE these hot-rodding videos! I've learned so much! Thank you, Cory!
I think the finer sponge and the white polishing pad in there are better than the coarse sponge… otherwise fiber detritus will be returning to the tank… and it’s supposed to clog up at some point, that means it’s doing it’s job…. Now, the prefilter at the intake is a good idea, although I use medium rather than coarse.
yeah very bad advice right there to replace the stock egg crate sponge with a plain super course pad. Even worse advice is removing the polishing pad.
Yup . Then again that’s probably why he doesn’t like fluvial canisters . He’s using them wrong .
@@cram1nblaze brothers, you gotta realise how people use these. Nobody cleans them. It goes on months, sometimes years without a clean. If you wanna have it work for a month or two without greatly minimizing flow by clogging, you gotta use coarse media. And btw, what happens to aerobic bacteria when your fine filter sponge clogs? It dies
@@tupapi818247 for sure, the dude with a fish store and lots of experience is using them wrong 😂
Well last week I cleaned my mechanical media in my canister after about 5-6 months. I have 3 grades of sponge in there and filter floss. Yeah it was pretty gross in there, but I never noticed the reduction in flow, I just cleaned it because I thought it's about time. The best way to set you filter is to have 2 grades of sponges - coarse and medium, then filter floss and the rest filled up with bio media.
I always enjoy your diy videos! I appreciate what you do to give the hobby and people in it.
I’ve never laughed so much at a aquarium co op video before in the first minute lmao
Thanks again for the content! Love spending weekend mornings nerding out with you guys!!!!
I don't know. I really love these filters. They are so simple to set up, easy to clean, parts can easily be ordered if something does break.
I love canister filters too but if you run a fish farm with around 200+ tanks. Canister filter will be a pain :D
Thanks Cory, even if you don't like these yourself the wealth of knowledge you have on the topic is helpful to us all.
I have that very filter - thanks so much for this video. It comes with no instructions as to why things are where they are or what would actually be best. I knew I could count on you to fill me in. Thanks!
I don't use a canister filter but I still enjoy watching your videos. It's great to expand my knowledge on the hobby! *THAT BOX TOSS!*
Loved the little subtleties, like YEETing that box.
Great video, once again, showing how to maximize you filter, and your investment! Thanks Cory!
Just got a 407 and set it up as in video and have to say its really working well and pushing a good flow in my Fluval 200.
Closed captions in thumbnail told me you were here to show me how to "hot rod a cancer filter."
That's some serious DIY right there...
Great tips as always. Thanks!
Actually I've had aquariums for the last 45 years, but you can teach a old dog new tricks! Amazing!
Can't believe Cory did this video! I was waiting from long time!
Thanks Cory, love your hot rod videos!!!!
I needed this. Thanks
Wonderful info, I'm getting one canister filter and was thinking about how to optimize it.
Lol thanks bro! I run your sponge filters in all my tanks but gonna use a 307 in my Acrylic 40 gal show tank with all this good advice!
Another great video, Cory
Enjoyed the video!
Thank you very much. I learned a ton!!!!!!
Love the content!
Good stuff as always
Can't help but feel like Fluval reminded Cory about the dreaded canister filter they sent him for free a year ago and perhaps some pressure was applied for him to talk about it lol! In any case, I do have 2 of these filters I have yet to set up (came with the F35 and the F90 aquariums) so this was a useful video for me. Cory, I will hotrod these filters and purchasing YOUR coarse sponges. Thank you!
Bro you launched that box at the beginning that was sick. I love the "aquarium ricer" videos
Ah a fellow Matthias viewer I see
@@TobyCreates hello there
Thank you!
thank you for the information!!
Perfect timing I just got my first canister filter
Awesome & Thank You Sir
Helpful thanks! 😊
Thank you, Master...
Love these filters
"reluctantly sponsored by fluval... Because you probably don't need it anyway" lol
Best channel. Legit.
Thanks Cory!
Another useful informationnnn,, good jobbb
Thanks Cory
That box never had a chance
Another way to optimize them is to get rid of that sponge cage and just stack a bunch of coarse sponge on that side. I have an old 305 and that's what I did, replaced it with a stack of coarse Aqua Clear sponge blocks cut to size. Every inch of the available space in mine is filled with media. The 305 has 3 of those baskets and 2 of mine are filled with bio-rings and the last has the filter media for a HOB that I use in my quarantine tank.
personally, and while I have no connection to Fluval, I love love love these 07 series canisters much more than sponger filters, though I do appreciate having Cory's opinions and perspective on the matter.
I have a Marineland 220...10 years strong. Love it.
As always good Sir another excellent presentation 🎉
Nice quick hot rod video! I’m not inclined towards canisters, but watched it anyway. Nice box toss!
Some very good tips again Cory. As soon as I can get my fish room built I will be buying a couple of bigger tanks that I’ll run canisters on, so these tips will be put to good use.👍🏻
I used to use HOB for my aquarium, but no matter which brand, and did the proper maintenance, but they always kept dying on me within the first 6 months. I now have a fluval 207 and I have had no issues whatsoever.
Although when using fresh biologicl media, it would be useful to place a very fine filter media at the bottom tray until the bio media gets colonized, so that the pores don't get clogged up before the bacteria settle in.
Exactly.
I love fluvals canister filters. They work awesome and are easy to clean.
You love the canister really Cory 😉 I love sponge filters on all my tanks to be honest, but I've invested in a 307 for my 350L tank and it has saved my arse as my hornwort decided to die off and make my main display tank look horrid, I also have some big pooper fishes in there, so I think a power filter was needed! Haha
I am looking to buy this filter to replace my in tank filter I have watched alot of videos on it this was the best great banter
Great vid
I laughed way too hard at this. Thank you
I have an old 204. Still works after sitting on the shelf dry for 10 years. Now it's mostly a water polisher for a 100 gallon tank.
Fluval's "EZ-lift technology" (a hole to lift the tray out) made me laugh
just throws the box omg I'm dying you're awesome Cory
I love the end of the video haha!
Love it
I love these kinds of videos! I'm so glad we have these kinds of videos back
I agree canister filters are a waste...I only have one because I bought it 15yrs ago(5yrs actual run time) and it still works. Thanks for another enjoyable video. 👍😁👍
Gonna hotrod my canister this weekend!
Thanks for the info! Curious what size tank is this filter rated for?
This came up right on time. The box throwing 😂😂😂😂
That sponge idea is brilliant
Get the most out of this thing that you probably didn't need to begin with... Hilarious 😆
Great! Is this sold on Amazon? Thanks
🤣🤣🤣Too funny! I placed an order after this video.
Cory absolutely launching that box is such a mood. #teamspongefilter
Was about to buy a canister for my Oscar because I thought I "had to". Cory was able to set me straight!!
I’m considering the Fluval 307 for my 20+ year old red eared slider turtle. After watching your informative video, I’ll stock the canisters, starting for the bottom, course sponge with bio rings, then the remaining two canisters with bio rings.
Also, please recommend a decent heater for my turtle.
Thanks!

ANOTHER GREAT EXPLAINING AND EDUCATIONAL SHOW AND AS ALWAYS ( LIKE :)
THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
As someone with a 407, I approve of this
Lol when he threw that box i lost it😂😂😂😂
Medium sponge works on the 107 for me and I have the large on the 207 and it fits perfectly
Sponge filters forever, but great to know and so entertaining 😆
Hey need advice with my 307 set up. Want to get clear water and get rid of particles. My set up at the moment is
Purigen
O rings
Orings
Polishing pad
Coarse sponge
Should i remove the middle tray of orings and replace with poly fil? Want to mention my tank has been up and running for less then 3-4 months. I do have 2 sponge filters running and a very tiny one just incase i have to medicate .
Prefilter. Best Tip ever
Can you review the Cascade Max Flow and talk of media for large turtles? I have issues here. Thanks for the education!
Cory, you are my fav... I get so excited when you pop up in a video, i'm instantly glued and know i'm in the right hands! And no, i'm not a creepy stalker lol my boyfriend and i just love your videos.
Box thrower. Lol good vid as always
"We're goint to tear this beast open" 😂 Hell yeah
😂😂😂 this was the first video from Cory and Aquarium Co-op that I ever saw, I remember thinking..this dude seems way too angry 😂😂. A year or so later and im a NERM.
Gave it a like the moment Cory sended that box flying hahahaha
Quick question, what are your thoughts on sharing a canister filter between two aquariums with t-fittings? I know there's the sharing of water between tanks but beyond that, if my filter can handle the total gallons, what are your thoughts? Thank you for your video.
1 disease, 2 disease, 3 disease, 4. Not a good idea. Good luck trying to track down which tank, then again you won't have to because both will be contaminated. I would think that out again.
Cory going beastmode 0:44
The egg crate at the bottom offers more surface area and less restriction than the flat foam you used !
I currently have an overstocked african tank. I have 2 tidal 75s and a 307 on 40 breeder. Overkill but i have constant debris or maybe sand from them digging in the water. Wouldnt removing the fine pads catch less of debris in the water?
i have a question i have a custom tank that the canister return & intake hoses come into the tank from the bottom how would i shorten the hoses to increase my gph cycle on the tank?
You needed the finer sponge as the last sponge the water touches before the bio media to prevent solid things in the water getting through and clogging your bio media, making it not work well at all.
Corey where did you buy your coarse? Which store. I like your videos.
I have a 407 on my 30 gallon tank and I love it.
Jeez overkill
@@TheBeebop420 No it is not. The 407 was on sale at Petsmart so I got it cheap.
Having that size filter on my talk means I hardly have to do water changes or clean the filters.
I also like to put spraybars for the output side, but I've seen that people prefer that less nowadays. I don't really know why!
