This is still the best video on these filters after 5 years.
Just watched a number of videos on setting up a Fluval Canister Filter. Without a doubt, this specific video was the most detailed! Kudos on its presentation.
Enjoyed learning, as I’ve bought my first canister filter..the 407!
This is Amazing thank you so much for doing this with me!!!! this made it so easy to set up. Thank you!!!
Fantastic video! Watched it several times and set mine up without reading the instructions. Thank you!!
I didn't read the instructions or watch this video and set up with so easy. Great product so obvious what to do.
Nice job . Purchased my first canister today and ready to install it . Thanks for your tutorial .
Thanks Fluval 'n' congrats Eileen. I buyed the Fluval 207 and all is fine. Is an excellent filter and the ideal for my fresh water small aquarium (25 gal.). The water is very clear and the corrient makes very happy to my fourteen sumatran barbos. Greattings from México city. 🐟🐠🐟🐠🐟🐠
Thank u SO much for being so thorough! This was REALLY helpful!❤
Best video out there on setting up the Fluval.
I really appreciate how descriptive she is.. thank you so much
thank you so much, i was afraid of the canister but now i've mastered it
Thank you for the complete informative way to set up canister.
I have a 407 fluval canister filter for over a year and half for my 75 gallon tank. It work great.
Thank you, starting my first tank...55g. Might go with this just by your comment.
@@mrjc12 good luck! We agree, this is definitely one of the most tried and true models on the market. Some of the others that had track records are no longer available. At this price point too - it really is excellent for aquarium applications!
Thank you for the video! It made setting up my 207 very easy
My God thank you mostly everyone else fast forward the tube part 🙏🏼
Great vid thanks!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. From Eastbourne in England x
Excellent demonstration
Thank you so much I had a fish tank emergency u saved me!
gracias , el vídeo me fue de muchas utilidad.
This is the BEST instruction. Thank you for clarifying what IN means ... I thought I was going to go nuts, until I came across your video...
Seems about right.
Outstanding job
I couldn't figure out where the 4 suction cups went. My outlet is vibrating. now I know why, thank you.
thank you!
Thank you!!!! I subscribed!!
Thank you so much help for your information us
Thanks
1. you can get ready whatever part you want first, I did the piping first to make sure the things even cool, and is going to fit where I want befor opening all the media.
2. almost all filter media says to rinse it off first when it co es do carbon or bio ceramics to get all the dusty stuff off.
3. the rings will work, most companies don't give you premium media, they want to make money
4. i do not want the output nozzle breaking my surface and making more noise, as I have a power head, and two hang on backs, I actually am going to see if I can make a way for the nozzle to be about a foot lower in my tank to get some more current at a lower level keeping crap from settling
Very helpful. Set mine up today following your video. I found the tube attachments cumbesome -- the two that you use to secure the input and output to the sides of the tank.
Thank you for this video it was very helpful!
Fantastic, thank you!
Thank you great easy vid!
Very helpful .. thanks
407 is the best👍🏼
I bought one for myself.
It would be cool if 507 appeared instead of fx4, for example, or as an alternative to it.
In my opinion, episode 7 is better than fx🤷🏻♂️
Have a nice day everyone.
Very informative and easy to understand. Thank you so much! I’m new to the aquarium hobby and definitely a beginner. I won two comet goldfish two weeks ago and currently have them in a 29 gallon tank. Once I move in a few months I’ll be upgrading them to a 55 gallon. My starter kit came with a HOB filter but it was nice to see a canister filter setup as I’ve seen them mentioned a lot in the materials I’m reading online. You got yourself a new subscriber! I’ll have to check out your other videos as well. I’d love to see a comparison of canister vs HOB vs even the ones that go on the floor of the tank. Especially with my high ammonia outputting goldfish.
Thank you very much for your feedback Andrew! That is a great idea for additional content - we will definitely consider it!
You want to watch the pond guru. He’ll correct some of the misinformation I noticed from this video
6 foot tank would be more the size as these fish could grow quite large. I have a Fluval 307 on a 40gallon tank so 407 would be advisable for 55gallon or if you have room a Fluval fx4. Google comet fish for their care.
Any recommendations to manage the strong flow? My fishes are a little bit stressed with the due to that big flow
From what I’ve read, the gray lever on the intake adjusts the flow
For 50 Gallon fancy gold fish tank.... fluval 307 or 407 please suggest
Just a tip intake and out take on same side.
Out take acting as a wave maker to push water forward on top then put a small wave maker on the bottom of opposite side to push water below to circulate and push tridus to the intake.
This give you a full tank circulation to make the canester work better
bro speak in english this sentence makes like half sense lol
Can you slow the flow amount or is it just one volume
Can the flow be regulated?
Thanks
I followed these directions but I had it already plugged in when I pumped the filter and it ended up working fine. I just want to make sure I didn't mess it up?
Can you add water to filter instead of taking it from tank or is it easier that way?
I just got a 307 filter for my aquatic turtle tank. Does the intake valve need to be completely submerged?
Yes the intake needs to be completely submerged
can you place the phosphate sponges above the charcoal bags?
Hi, how long (cm) is the intake tube? (sorry for my English btw)
Best explain
Thanks or demonstrating how to put the hoses on - wish that had been on close up because I'm still having a terrible time getting my hoses secure and I still can't see where to put the suction cups on (plus I only received 3 instead of 4. My hoses may have to just hang loose until I can have somebody else try it. I also have an acrylic tank with an overhang around the edges. There are some cutouts but the tube isn't long enough to go from one end to the other. (it's a big tsnk) plus the canister is inside the stand so I need a flashlight to do anything inside. I also keep dropping things (like suction cups) into the tank. I have to get a stepstool and use a long "grabber" to pull the piece out. These tubes will be the death of me, How do you make it look so easy? The media and most of the other stuff is self explanatory if you've ever had a filter of just about any type. Also - BTW - i had my volume at 100 and still could barely hear you talk.
Can this be use for a 36 gal tank
Do you have to set it up so the return is agitating the surface of the water to put air in the water?
Not if you have an air stone.
Cant find any decent rocks for my 75 gallon chilids aquarium I'm starting
I just followed this video and the instructions are great. When I went to start my filter, it's very noisy, almost like a rattling noise. Any ideas on what that may be?
Maybe you should fill up the canister with water(don't forget anti chlorine)
Air!
Hi, does the output have to be submerged or above water? thanks
either or will work
I need more advanced information about each part and it purpose. Plus why its important to insert the media in that order. I understand the basics. Just need to know more before I switch to a more advance brand.
Is there a way to set it up above water level? My Turtle tub is on the floor and water level is only 10" above floor level. I have a ramp for the Turtles to get in and out of the tub. There is no way to get the canister below the tub.
I don’t know much about them but I’ve also seen filters that can lay at the bottom of the tank. The canisters need to be below the water level to syphon properly. Perhaps the other kind doesn’t? I currently have two HOB’s (hang on back) for my 29 gallon aquarium.
@@persecuted4Him Ended up figuring it out. Added an in tub sump to push water up the intake for the FX6 filter. Works likes a charm. Thanks.
@@TommyMcTurtleson great Mod! Yes, historically using canisters for turtle applications is challenging specifically for this issue.
bottom tray is not biological, its the final stage of the mechanical cleaning, no one uses filter wool for biological
Hi just wanted your opinion do you agree with this! saw this on a african chilids forum they all say you don't need carbon in your filter Hi there! Welcome to the forum!
I have never heard of a fish that actually needs carbon. I think you may be mistaking filter cartridges (carbon) with filter media. Most aquarists don't use cartridges (carbon) because they are only active for 4 weeks and need to be replaced if you actually want activated carbon in your filter. Most people only use it if they are trying to rid a tank of medication or strong oders, ect. Filters do need filter media, you are absolutely right about that. Fish need the media in a filter because it allows nitrifying bacteria to grow, which eats the toxins fish produce and keeps your water safe. But, filter media consists of many things other than carbon. A good example is sponge. Many aquarist ditch the filter cartridge's because the carbon serves them no purpose and replace it with sponge or something similar for the bacteria to grow on. Fish don't actually need the carbon itself, but need the bacteria that grows on cartridges and other types of filter media. :D
Longest installation of a canister filter I've ever seen lol.
Aaand since 2005 and x04 series nothing changed. No failed filter/tubing protection, small hole in the intake tube 1/2" below water level will be lifesaver when your filter fails and leaks. Unlikely event but my 404 canister split(in 2005) and sucked nearly all water out of the 450l tank flooding 3 storeys of flats below. Have I had such hole it would be 8-10 liters on the floor not ~350!!!!
Omg.... I can't accept it😂😅
Came across this video when I checkout for Fluval 207 and I'm totally 😅
From the way you handle the installation, it shows you're amateurs.. and it got my "OCD" exploded 😂
1. Ppl would get ready the filter media before installing the piping.
2. Nobody would prewash the filter media 😒 especially when you are wanted play around with the water chemistry for a fresh new setup... I must emphasize, unless you know your water parameters, otherwise, don't play with it.
3. frankly, the default bio ring is low quality stuff, we usually get higher grade bio ring.
4. The setup of the output nozzle 😞 - we most often tilt it to near water surface level to encourage water surface agitation for oxygen exchange ... Not just simply dump it underwater, it's about oxygen exchange and also understanding what kind of water flow we want to create for our setup.
Thats not a 107
Thank you! The Fluval written instructions are ridiculous to understand
That filter is masive lol
