The dirty water from the canister and filter pads are primo for my tropical plants and orchids and also save all my water change water for my plants. I never have to worry about using plant fertilizer and the problems of fertilizer burn and salt build up that can burn plants and hurt the soil ecology. Feed the soil that feeds the plants. Aquarium and plant keeping go hand and hand. I thank you for your video on this filter, I just got it! Love your channel, be well ❤️

@@leo2o915 I like Sicce, but I prefer the Fluval cannister filters. I had a Whale, and the priming doo-bobber broke really easily. In my experience, the Fluvals are little quieter too. 😊
This video was enjoyable, even though I have absolutely no intention of getting a canister filter. (grin!). That tank is so beautiful! I don't use stem plants much, but yours are incredibly beautiful. I have swords, moss, anubias, crypts. hydrocotyle (spelling may be off on some of these) in my tank of 3+ years.. They are all growing well, but I wish I had your touch with the stems! Happy New Year to you and Laura, as well. Best wishes always.
I was thinking as you were pouring it that it probably smelled like wet earth and tree bark…and then you basically said it 😂. I’ve been running hob/sponge combos for all my tanks.Think I might try one of these canisters filters out. They don’t seem quite as scary after watching this. Thanks for another informative video!❤✌️
Theyre pretty awesome...and they can buy the 207s for only $149.99 i believe. If you do get one, i linked the besg price i found online in the description. Cheers!
I’ve been using a 406 on my 40b since I started the tank, it runs an in-line CO2 reactor with a recently added Fluval spray bar. There’s some new features on the 07, but generally the same as the 06. I love mine, it keeps on trucking.
@@Click771I built my own using a PVC pipe and fittings. Base is 3 inch PVC pipe with the water coming in from the top and exiting the bottom. CO2 enters about halfway down the pipe or so.
I have an FX4 but it is coming to the end of it's life so I am replacing it with a 207, which I think is definitely easier to service. The only thing I will miss the ability to use the FX4 to change water with.
I love these can filters. I have 2 of them and 3 fx series filters, part of me likes the 107/407 filters a little more than my fx6/fx4. Thanks for the video
Love the series. Been running 306s for 10 years +. Very little poblems. - almost any part you need is available - generally quiet - lowish maintenance - maintenance is simple Dont really like the fact their ribbed hoses dont work directly with 3rd party stuff. Not a knock. As i believe it is superior in a lot of ways, just different.
All great points. I love their hoses historically...until a pinhole leak forms...but i think these are being made sturdier now. My old filters' all would get replaced at the 3 or 4 year mark, with pvc green transluscent hose.
I have 2 of the 407's and they work well. I picked up at Home Depot a clear 7/8 in od and 5/8 in id hose to replace the crappy plastic ribbed hose, which people have complained about them (older series canister/ same hose though) eventually breaking down and leaking within sections of the ribs. But Series 7 is a rock-solid canister!
Could you water your house plants with with fish tank water? My wife want's to know. Well watching to the end answered my question!!! I currently have a Fluval C3 HOB on my 29 gallon community planted tank (cut my own mechanical pads with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals 2 stage pads with polishing pad, run Matrix in the bins). It is doing a good job but have been wanting a canister for the past couple years. This will be the one i get (the 207) Absolutely fantastic video on this filter! The best out there! I just subscribed!!
Thanks for the info!!! I have a 307 on my 60g. I switched the black tubings to clear. Honestly not worth it, the black original ones are better imo because they are flexible. Anyways i also got a spray bar kit for surface agitation & got a custom intake guard from esty, i cut a corse sponge filter to fit the intake guard. Dont think it’ll ever clog up now.
Hi. At the moment ive got a box filter (came with the tank set) Its a 5 gallon tank, which I've had for 6 weeks or more. Im thinking about changing to a sponge filter cuz my betta doesn't like the original. How can i do this without upsetting my cycle? Thanks😊
So get the little air pump and sponge filter and run it while you run the HOB filter for a week or two...or buy a prefilter sponge for the intake pipe on your filter....and run it for a week or two, then find an airstone thatll fot in the sponge piece and just turn off the HOB filter, using the sponge as a filter...and remove the HOB after 2 days or so of overlapping filtration. Good luck!
So there is co2 hooked up, but it hasnt been on for months due to all my traveling. Its mostly due to root tabs, liquid potassium dosing and then the light which is a twinstar SA series 3rd gen... and was designed for emersed growth and or flowering. Its 6,000+ Lumens! And i got this one onsale at uns.com for 259.99 but it was usually 359.99. It's quite the amazing light

I like them too. Everyone else LOVES them. BUT visually they seem to have much more water bypass than an Eheim or JBL. The by-pass occurs between the horizontal baskets and the filter wall. And I don't get the logic of the vertical pre-filter (How does the water get forced the length of the sponges? It does get dirty. But unlike my other filters--it never really gets clogged for me. It really should. The sponge doesn't get as gunky as they do in the other filters mentioned. I do use it in conjuction with a Juwel internal, so that may account for this. Another thing that make no sense to me is the supposed increased surface area of wavey sponges. The water easily flows through the sponges even when their surfaces are flat. The cut-away pieces that forn the undulations actually DECREASE surface area to my mind--as there's less sponge for the water to pass through.
I say in the video that its been a week and a half since i cut those stems back, but they grow an inch a day often... the angels have about 10 gallons of empty space under the floating plants in the back, also.
@@Fishtory Maybe u should clear a space for them to free swim by keeping the stems towards the back & planting lower plants like crypts in the front. That way they don't lose so much swimming area so fast.
