I had used Fluvals for a long time 10+ years to be exact. But two years ago decided to switch to Oase 600 two of them and man I gotta say, the maintenance is easy with those prefilters. That’s the main reason I switched.

    • @AquariumStoreDepot

That’s the reason I love them. So much easier to maintain

I wouldn't buy a Oase if my life depended on it. I've had too many of them go bad on me in a very short amount of time. I prefer the Fluval filters for a whole lot of reasons, including they being nearly bullet proof. I don't understand why the FX series got rated so far below the x07 series. They are used for two different things, and they are both unparalleled for the applications for which they were designed. The FX series are high flow filters which you use if you have a very large tank, or for very overstocked tanks, or tanks where the water is going to get very dirty (such as a turtle tank). They are also the filter of choice if you need to establish a current for certain species of fish such as hillstream loaches or shiners. The x07 series are for smaller tanks which are lightly to moderately stocked. Both of these filters are quieter than the Oase offering, so I don't know why they got dinged on that. I prefer having a heater outside of the filter, because if the heater goes out in the filter, then you just have wasted space, and depending on how it went bad, you might not have a filter anymore. It seems better to me to replace an external heater than to have a useless heater in the filter and have to put another one in outside the heater.
The Fluval filters have enough other bells and whistles and optional add-ons that it makes it the one to beat. There are just so many features which weren't mentioned in the video, and if you put these head to head with the Oase, it's really not much of a contest, not to mention that I've never had a Fluval go bad on me, and I haven't had a Oase which lasted more than three months. To me, that's unacceptable, Personally, I'll never take the risk of buying a Oase again, no matter what bells and whistles they put on it. The Fluval FX series definitely doesn't belong as low on the list as it is by any stretch of the imagination. This is a flawed video/review, and you should take it with a grain of salt.

Everyone has their bias and the FX is on the later piece of the countdown because they are so expensive and the Fluval 7 series tends to be the best for the vast majority of buyers. I agree OASE does have a lot of catching up to do compared to the ironclad reputation that both Eheim and Fluval has. Eheim has been the most reliable for me. I have one that has been running for over a decade that I got back from a local fish store I used to work at.

I'm a fluval guy currently owning a couple FX6's and a 307 canister filter, and I've been wanting a new canister for my 75 gal Mbuna tank. Currently I have the Fluval 307 on that tank, but I want to put that filter on my 55gal S.American cichlid tank cause the hob on that tank even though it is a good filter it just doesn't move the water efficiently enough. I've been deciding between either a Fluval FX4, a 407, A Oase Biomaster or a Sicce Whale and I just can't decide which one I want to go with.

Great vid, but for the "Budget" filter, I'd go for the Aqua One Ocellaris... Reason is that I have used these filters and they have a great capacity for Bio-media and mechanical too. Their trays interlock and negate much of the bypass of others. Their flow rate is good alongside the build quality and media provided out of the box for their pricing... They are a good option for the beginner and seasoned alike...

    • @AquariumStoreDepot

@@AquariumStoreDepot I'm in the UK, and they are sold across a wide range of LFS and other larger chains of Pet shops. They are available on Amazon, and the price is reasonable, below £100 compared to a Fluval 307 at close to £160-£180 in the stores that I visit.
So yeah, they are cheap, but work really well. They come with plenty of media including sintered glass noodles and stones, coarse sponges (Too open for my liking, but good to get you started) and medium coarse sponge. Piping is as you'd expect (useable. and has all the grubbing's and spray bar). The Ocellaris 850 that I have states 850ltrs per hour (which I feel is is probably close to when in use), and my 240ltr tanks water is crystal clean.
I've yet to have an issue so far after a few years of use. A great budget Canister for the price and what comes with it.

fluval only wins out on votes because that's the only real option sold in most stores. Had the FX-4 for years, it was garbage. It struggled with 125g despite claims it should handle twice that. At $300 is seriously underperformed and failed often.
You also have an error on your eheim pro (#7). You list "sounded well on sound test" as a pro but then for a con listed "quiet operation". It's bad because it's quiet?

    • @AquariumStoreDepot
      @AquariumStoreDepot  Месяц назад +2

Thanks for letting me know about the error. It’s quiet not loud. Unfortunately I can’t edit out the video after it posts 😔.
I usually take the ratings and divide them by half since most people overstock their tanks. I would have gone for a 6 for a 125 or two canisters

Why is hardly anyone making fulters with adjustable pump speed? Controlling via valves is caveman level. Slowing down pump allows you to buy something larger and reduce speed to lower power draw and noise...

At the end of the day the makers name counts for nothing - it's what is inside the filter that makes the difference to water quality.
If you set a cheap filter up properly and it will easily outperform a ridiculously expensive new Eheim filter.
People seem to forget that blatantly obvious fact........

    • @AquariumStoreDepot

I agree 100%. It’s something I want to cover later on in the channel. It’s interesting to me that it usually draws some controversy when one talks about media from the natural aquarium fans. Not everyone keeps natural tanks or have fish where it’s feasible (because they will tear up your plants)
