I've used both and currently have a maxed out M3 Max.
I do like the OLED displays and the haptic trackpad on the Asus as they've finally cloned Apple's design! No longer a springboard.
The Creator I upgraded to 64GB DDR5 5600 but it only runs at 4800. 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD. Pretty much maxed out. It's pretty stout for a Windows machine.
However, being like all Windows laptops, performance drops off the cliff when the power cord is unplugged. The creator laptop fan runs all the time and particularly in performance mode, quite annoying and man does it get hot!
It will charge off thunderbolt docks but if you're using a lot of CPU and GPU the battery will still drain even when plugged in.
Also (this is more a Windows issue rather than specific to the Asus machine), HDR is handled poorly. You have to enable it all the time or have it off. Apple does it right and HDR content is displayed in a window or full screen on demand.
I am looking forward to having an OLED display on a future generation of Macbook Pro!

I think a 4090 should have been a more apples to apples comparison as M3 max is Apple's best, whereas a 4090 is almost 2x faster than the 4070 and that will make a huge difference especially in things like GPU effects score etc.

Yep, I was scratching my head with the comparison with the 4070. With the 4090, the prices of the two would come closer but the Windows machine would likely dust the M3 Max in raw, plugged-in performance. That would be the proper comparison IMO.

Test the ProArt with a MacBook Pro with a Pro version of the chip. Another thing. You can configure a Widows laptop so that you don't need a TB4 dock, such as a CalDigit. These TB4 accessories are expensive and add to the total cost. And then there is the cost of software upgrades to work with current Apple systems and under Parallels with legacy Windows software. Apples are simply too expensive when factoring in total cost of the device and all necessary accessories and software updates to current ones from legacy software that still might meet one's needs.

I honestly wish I could combine the two laptops. In my opinion, the OLED screen looks nicer and the ProArt in ways is a sexier laptop with a nice variety of ports, but the M2 Max performs so much better with better battery life. I can easily notice a performance difference when editing photos on the two devices. The M2 Max just runs so much smoother, and you can definitely feel the ProArt chugging along compared to the Macbook (It's still a fast machine in terms of Windows based computers). 4:20 Something important to be clear at this point. Any process node is not comparable with any other, is just a name made for marketing. Intel 10 nm is not comparable with TSMC 3 nm, so it’s not true that you can fit three times transistors into the same space.
Example: Its density it’s what matters, for example Intel 10 nm is denser than TSCM 7 nm by a little, which is counterintuitive to what people believe. Be careful with the marketing made by some companies. That’s why intel eventually changed their naming scheme to intel 7 process node, to make it seem more accurate to their competition.

I have a standard video that I use for testing Premiere and Resolve... it's a 35 minute video in 4K, footage is a mix of ProRes and XAVC... it has zooming and scaling and lower thirds from After Effects and a LUT across the whole timeline. On my M3 Pro in Premiere it takes 42 minutes to export, and on my ProArt it's done in 23 minutes. Other test projects are yielding similar results. I haven't tested Resolve yet -- working on that soon.
Initially my ProArt was slower, but I discovered that when the screen goes to sleep the CPU goes into a low power mode and only runs at about 15% of its normal speed. So I had to turn off the screen power saving. But once I did that the ProArt was clearly faster than the M3 Pro in every test I threw at it.

Just one comment on Blender. We need to keep in mind, that with the M3 Max we have unified memory. So if we get more memory we can have scenes in the GPU that the maxed out Pro Art Laptop or any other laptop, and most desktop cannot. For instance, with 64GB of RAM and above, you can have complex scenes in Blender that you'd have to have a desktop RTX 6000 from $6,000 to be able to render in the GPU. And this is another impressive thing that you already covered in another of your videos. We have a laptop competing with a Desktop. And often, winning. But like you said. It doesn't mean that the ProArt cannot be a good option for a person that values the ability to use a pen for their photos and design for example.

I LOVE my 2023 Proart Studiobook but I wish it had the 3d screen everyone made videos of. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the weight of this thing, its HEAVY. By far the best laptop i've ever used and maybe even better then any desktop i've used to date. The proart can go down to 60hz if you want to save battery life, its not only 160

You forgot the main thing... How easy does the M3 laptop integrate with every other Apple product?

TL;DR - If you need to do "heavy lifting" tasks, like rendering 4K videos, just using the battery, then go with the Macbook. Otherwise, if you just want to save money, and you typically work near an outlet, then go with the Asus ProArt.

Now compare the proart to a m3 pro MacBook that you can get for the same $2499 price

In my opinion, the comparison is superficial and unnecessary. How to seriously work on a laptop? 16" screen? For normal work, you need a monitor of at least 27" or 2 x 24". I understand people who work in different locations, but they also, at the end, complete their work on a large screen. A laptop is a gadget, not a working machine.

Wow... I was looking for a comparison between these models, and i just found this video.
I am looking forward to buy a new laptop, for nurse college, (so pdf, basically), web browsing, and some video/photo editing (not professional, just mirrorless pics and insta360 acepro videos), and I am confused about the MacbookAir M3 15" 16gb/512hd, wich it could be a nice option, but my eyes are on the MacbookPro 16 M3 Pro 18ram/512, it could be maybe a good choice, for longevity, ports, display, and the power, spending 800€ more than macbook air....
But then, I found out this ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16" H7604, in this configuration 3.2K OLED touchscreen display, nvidia geforce RTX 4070 (i9-13980HX) and 32GB ram, 1TB SSD + GeForce RTX4070 8gb (around 2600€).
So..... at this point, is it worth spend 3000€ for a macbook pro 16", or the asus could be a better choice? Which one is better and powerful?

Most people use their laptop at a desk or table where you can plug in. It is great to have good battery life but not a deal breaker unless you do your rendering in the garden or some place with no access to a socket.

"Only" 3-4x higher than the M3 Max in the last comparison vs the RTX4090 i9 comparison I've seen while still struggling to keep up with video and photo workflows like Resolve and Lightroom.
The M3 Max Macbook was hovering around 70-80W while the RTX4090 machine was around 240W.

@@Superbus753 It's not 10 times the power draw. Under full load a max power 4090 laptop and a max power 4070 only should differ about 40w so well under half.

    • @Superbus753
      @Superbus753 10 месяцев назад

@@DennisSchmitz that would already be too much. The solar system in the summer cabin can only deliver 12V 10A. Doable with a macbook but not with those power eating windows laptops. Apple offers good power and efficiency.

In addition, when it comes to the screen, it must be mentioned that Apple has a mega poor display response time of 60 to 70ms and the ASUS OLED 0.2 to 2ms. Fast scrolling etc. looks terrible on Apple. That's why I bought the ASUS Zenbook pro16x max out, which is almost better than the ProArt with the GTX 4080 and I am waiting for a sensible display with touch and pen from Apple.
