A-Roll: Jack is talking about how beautiful the beach is
B-Roll: footages of the beach but with voice over of the Jack.

Shallow DOF and half my subject disappears. LOL

    Great video.
I try to use as much B-roll to tell the story. I use A-roll much like the narration for the video.
What I sometimes say is that if I mute the audio, the B-roll will tell the story. That works very well.
Also, when I go out for a _"gig",_ I tend to shoot the interviews first. I listen to what they say to shoot those things they talk about. This way I know exactly what to shoot as B-roll footage. Of course it helps a lot when you know what the people in front of the camera will talk about. But in many cases I don't have the luxury to have that much time.

Shoot Shallow Depth of Field (Throw the backgound out of focus) - Wider open aperture lenses 35, 50, 85. 3. Slow Motion Shots - 120 fps recommended

While this definition is nice, it can be an over simplification. Like cutting to a close up of a cellphone you are reviewing while you are reviewing it and away from your "A' may not feel like "Background" to a layman. As these would be very close intensional shots of small object. While on some level what you say is technically true, calling B Roll "background" shots could make some people think it's always like in the world of establishing shots or landscapes. When enhancement close ups (such as cutting to a close up if a camera you are reviewing) is also operating as B Roll.

Stock footage that's like your bank saving minus the interest or zero or without interest. It's like your pandoras box. Your own treasure. Learning every time w you Jeven. You're a great professor w gadgets & you tubing. You're doing it w passion you just want to help. Sharing is caring. 👍

Finally somebody took care. As I saw over YT ppl thought B-roll was just any footage... they just like the term. Without bothering to look at the definition. Thanks!
You can produce your project with A-roll footage alone: it is the primary footage. B-roll is supplemental footage or alternative footage. To further distinguish between the two types of footage, think of A-roll as telling, and B-roll as showing, or narration, and illustration.
