I become fascinated/fixated with games all the time lol. The latest one for me was Final Girl. I heard a ton about it the past couple years and despite thinking that I might like the gameplay, I wrote it off as not for me because of the theme. (I’m a scaredy cat 😂) But then recently I saw they had a Krampus theme which didn’t seem as creepy to me, so I started watching more videos and playthroughs and finally decided I needed to try it. I ended up liking it a lot!
I've wondered about Final Girl: I'm also a big chicken & don't watch slasher films, so the theme is off-putting, but I like the idea of the whole system: mix-n-match villains & heroines and setting. I might be willing to give it a try if it was co-op, but I'm not much of a solo gamer🤷♀️ Glad it worked out for you!🎉
We had a huge amount of fun with Gloom in Space. It's got a lot of great/funny cards! We're going to play this version a lot! I think it'd also be a good version of Gloom to introduce to people!🚀

I looked at Let's Go to Japan at our game store a couple of weeks ago, but decided to wait on it. I have been still been thinking about it though. Maybe it will be my new preoccupation until I get it. As for games wrong for me, I picked up Oath at the thrift store. I do not like war games much, nor do we have extra people very often, particularly ones that want to play a game that hard that requires multiple play sessions. I watched tons of videos but still have not gotten it to the table and wonder if I ever will. I really love the 'idea' of the game. Praga Caput Regni, same designer as Evacuation, is one of my favorite games. I had to watch at least two playthroughs and play it at least three times before I understood it, but I enjoy that process I think.
Sometimes, I think, you have to get a game to know whether you should've gotten the game🤣 Most of the time I can make a rational and good decision about getting a game based on videos, but sometimes I'm really not going to know if I should get a game & like it, until I've gotten it and tried it out 😆 Don't give up on that shelved game----Sometimes when I've finally played a game I halfway regret buying I love it & regret that I didn't get it off the shelf sooner!🤞 Good luck! I think in terms of a game I was kind of focused on and wasn't sure why was Wingspan because I do find birds scary. But I got it anyway and love it. Another one may be Flamecraft. I just loved the look of it, but I was very scared of worker placement because when I was first getting into the hobby, I was shown things like the Manhattan Project which I really didn't like and then, a game of Lords of Waterdeep that felt more like a hostage situation than a fun time. So I just thought I didn't like worker placement, but actually I think it was just the games and or atmosphere that just didn't vibe with me for whatever reason. As for deciding what to play. Gosh, I think sometimes one of us will just grab something and the other will just play it. Or I might grab 2 or 3 and say, "Okay, choose." I would say it is much easier than choosing a television show to watch together. So excited to hear how Evacuation goes when you eventually play it. I'm hoping it is a hit! And I'm keeping my eyes peeled for Alpine Shuffle now.
Yeah, I hear where you're coming from on worker placement games. It's used in so many different types of games that if you grab a game because it says "worker placement" (or *don't* grab a game because of that) the game could be anything from a top-level brain-breaking Euro to a tiny game where you're dropping little meeples on cards. And even if you feel like you know what's going on in a game, it doesn't mean you're necessarily going to like it! I always say "research a game before buying" , watch playthroughs & how to play videos, watch reviews because sometimes things reviewers like might be something you *don't*. But, of course, I don't always follow my own good advice😉🤣
I have Evacuation on my SoS, and just picked up FS-Alpine and The Pursuit of Happiness Big Box from Miniature Market today! Not sure when any of them will get tabled, but I'm looking forward to your thoughts on TPoH!
I'm really hoping Evacuation doesn't end up on my Shelf of Shame🤞 I'm wondering how long something sits on the very end of the dining room table before it officially becomes "Unplayed"🤣 Have you played Pursuit of Happiness before? Gloom in Space is probably the best Gloom! I love the orig Gloom ... It fills my soul. But GiS is just more fun.
