Sawyer and Juliet really is such a well done immediate ship that works. My love for Juliet never ends. Her face when she finally is able to deliver a baby is amazing
You know, I think I just realized something about why I enjoy watching your Lost reactions so much. On the one hand, coming from a television production background, you can analyze the structure of the show and think from a writer's point of view. But you also have a lot of empathy for the characters (as evidenced by how upset you appeared to get when you speculated that Rose and Bernard might be the "Adam and Eve" found in the cave) even though you, of course, know they are "merely" fictional characters. This all makes me very excited to finish off this journey with you!
It never ceases to amaze me that they got me much more invested in Sawyer/Juliet within 1 episode(they laid some groundwork for it before but still) than they ever did with Kate and Jack/Sawyer. I just love Sawyer and Juliet together.
Producer: What happens this season? Writer: The survivors go back to the seventies and live with the Dharma & Greg Initiative for 3 years. Producer: Going back to the seventies is tight!
Season 5 is so unique and such a departure from where this all started. After all these years I am still stunned that the writers had the ability to craft this story and the balls to even attempt it. The acting this season gets more and more amazing. Can’t wait to get Neil’s reaction to all of it!
In season 2, Sawyer said "There's a new sheriff in town, boys. You best be getting used to it." In this episode, he becomes the sheriff in Dharmaville.
So, I'm finally caught up. I've been binge watching your reactions to LOST for the last three days. I'm sending you a bill for my eye doc visit, since my eyes have been strained looking at the screen non-stop. I didn't see this show when it came out. I guess I watched the whole thing in 2012. I surely had lots of questions when I watched it, just as you do, but, you're putting things together a lot better than I did. It's pretty crazy how close you are to eventual story lines at various times during your trip through this show.
Kudos to the writers for selling the new ship of Juliet and Sawyer in one episode. My favorite couple on the show. Love seeing Dharma in all it's 70's glory! Great reaction Neil! Namaste
Lindelof spoke about that a few times and he heavily credits the actors for that. The writers weren't sure if it would work and the actors themselves weren't sure, but they did the work and it turned out great.
Sawyer and Juliet will forever be one of my most favorite tv series couples. They seem to have found what they needed in eachother. Im so glad you liked the episode.
I don't know why I find this so amusing but if it's the late 70's on The Island and assuming the Dharma Initiative can watch network television, I like to imagine them tuning in to Fantasy Island every week. Or perhaps that show's creator, Aaron Spelling, was a former member of Dharma and left to return to the mainland, became a television producer and based Fantasy Island on his experience living on The Island? And wait...then did Aaron Spelling base Mr. Roarke on Jacob??
This is a great episode, I love the 3 year back and forth and completely buy the Juliet Sawyer relationship, and its so sweet how they portray it here. Sawyer has already had this huge personal growth on the island and starting to take more of a leadership role and caring about people and then you can imagine 3 years has only added to that. Juliet is sweet and kind but also really tough because of her experiences and has this great ironic sense of humor. Normally I'm not that into a love triangle or quadrangle story but it really works here and I think because we love and care about all the characters we are very invested in their individual happiness.
neil, you may remember Horace as the evil guard in the Green Mile as well as making news years back as being an older guy marrying the 16 year old girl who ended up becoming a reality star or something
I must say, I think Horace Godspeed is a great leader. Being willing to let his people suffer the consequences. I mean, you could argue he’s manipulating her but i think he’s a good man
first we could look forward to the clap to begin each NEIL Talks LOST reaction.... now (and until the end of the series) we can look forward to the clap followed by "I am still trying to wrap my head around the last episode" to begin each NEIL Talks LOST reaction.
You completely misunderstood what the captain (Gould) said about Ben. He actually CONFIRMED to Desmond and Sayid, that the found 815 wreck was staged by CHARLES WIDMORE. The only context he mentioned Ben within was "how does anyone find over 300 dead bodies?" . I admit, it was phrased pretty vaguely, but at no point in time did he make it look as if BEN staged the whole fake 815 wreckage. I don´t understand, how you could come to such a conclusion.
Great reaction once again Neil. Thanks for the kind sentiment at the end. The Fifth season was a mind bender when I watched it in its initial broadcast. I would preogram the VCR (remember those?) so I could re-watch the episodes several times. The anticipation from week to week was terrific. By that time I was going on a lot of internet forums to check out what other losties had to write. Lots of speculation going 'round. Nice to see you doing all that in your head between reactions. You're awesome. Did you work on Shogun? I'm just curious.
According to "The Man Behind the Curtain", Ben was born in December 1962. When it comes to Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet; I think it's more complicated than you seemed to think it is. Jack and Kate could have had a healthy relationship if they had not been emeshed in the lies regarding Oceanic Six and especially Aaron. Sawyer and Juliet are doing fine. But even their relationship is caught in Sawyer's deception to keep them at the Dharma compound. How long will it take before his lie makes it difficult for them? Why did Sawyer create this lie in the first place? I think he made a big mistake. I can't help but feel that he, Juliet, Miles, Jin and Daniel should have taken their chances by creating a camp somewhere else on the island. I still believe that Kate has always been in love with Jack. And although she has deep affection for Sawyer, she had a habit of using him when her relationship with Jack ran into troubled waters. Now I find myself wondering how Sawyer and Juliet will behave if the Oceanic Six makes trouble for them.
You saw the story from the perspective of the losties, so widmore looked like a bad guy sending mercs to the island. But what if he's the good guy, and Ben is THAT bad that he sent mercs to the island to get him.
Sawyer didn't know how to love Cassidy, Kate didn't know how to love Sawyer. Then came Juliet. They complete eachother and i think she brings out the best in Sawyer and Sawyer makes her feel more confident and less insecure!
Kate never loved Sawyer. Not really. I can recall a flashforward scene from the Season Four finale that featured a photograph of Kate, Aaron and Jack inside Kate's home. And this scene had occurred after her breakup with Jack. That photograph told me that despite their breakup, Kate remained in love with Jack.
This is possibly my favourite episode of the series. Neil, I dont know if you still read these posts, but to answer your question from the previous episode, this show gets better because each season, it adds another layer to the story building on what's come before while the foreshadowing of these layers have been there from the beginning. I've loved your reactions this season. When you laugh and get excited, I laugh and get excited. I said before season 5 is my favourite seaon and I think you can see why.
The birth of Sawyer Hartman and Juliet Burke as a couple. It’s in my opinion the happiest we’ve seen Sawyer since letting go of his baggage in season 3. One of my FAVORITE episodes of the season. 😎
@@theshadowfax239 he's been using that for multiple reactors and it's weird. I think he explained why he used Hartman before and it was rather lame. He needs to know that Hartman will never catch on with Lostverse and needs to quit already 🤷

Widmore and Ben are both murderous, lying sacks of ish. But I at least have some sympathy for Ben due to his childhood. Widmore's actions toward Desmond are unforgivable and the show has given me No reason to do anything but despise him. His only redeeming quality at this point in the series is that he's Penny's father.
I love your theory that the ossified couple found in season 1 could be Rose and Bernard even though it is heartbreaking to consider (also beautiful!). It doesn't explain the pouch with the white stone and black stone still. Also, yes I too was hit in the chest with the unexpected strong ship that was Sawyer and Juliet. How could they rise so fast to almost Desmond and Penny level?
Before this episode I noticed the chemistry between Sawyer and Juliet really early on, I even noticed it when they worked together in the season 3 finale so I had been waiting for it and was so happy it was finally official. Juliet had a way of calming Sawyer down and she has had his back all season, never questioned him. They have a very healthy relationship, after what Kate pulled in Eggtown and how she used Sawyer again I was so done with them, she pissed me off. I normally like Kate but ever since season 3 she irritated the crap out of me!
It's funny to think that Sawyer would never get to where he is in this episode if he hadn't closed the revenge chapter of his life by killing the man from Tallahassee. He went from distrusting backstabing jerk to loveable leader in less than0 2 seasons.
What? There was nothing positive about Sawyer murdering Anthony Cooper. It was a very weak and spiteful moment for him. And a day or more after killing Cooper, Sawyer murdered Tom Friendly in cold blood. What makes this murder pathetic is that Sawyer pretended that it was in retaliation for Walt's kidnapping. Yet, he never went after Ben for that reason. Murdering someone shouldn't be the solution to revenge. Sawyer shouldn't have spent nearly three decades seeking revenge in the first place.
Juliet def isn't most people's 2nd choice. Fr. In a group of 20k people, a huge majority, male and female, prefer Sawyer with Juliet. Not Kate. I promise.
I have always thought that after James killed Locke’s Dad, the real Sawyer, he ceased to be that part of his personality. He becomes more of a leader and wants to settle down with Kate. After she is gone, Juliet fills that role, and he becomes LaFleur, a much different man in a good relationship. “Sawyer” is truly dead.
So murder makes a man a better person? Is that the moral of Sawyer's arc? I find that hard to swallow since Sawyer had murdered a defenseless Tom Friendly in cold blood after killing Locke's dad.
