The Ridley Scott Robin Hood movie, starring Russel Crow, isn't a great movie, but it does get at least a small recommendation from me, for being the only Robin Hood Movie I know that acknowledges that Richard the Lionheart was not some paragon of virtue and chivalry, but a bloodthirsty twat, who got himself killed trying to pillage a castle, belonging to fellow Christian Europeans

Off to a great start... *Okay I have to edit this, because there's a LOT of assholes that don't realize this is a joke, and now this is basically just a flame war over the pronunciation of "historical". Good Lord, I used to have faith in humanity.*
Incorrect. In the words you list, the "h" is not pronounced (hour is pronounced as "our", heir as "eir"). the h IS pronounced in historical, so it is incorrect to say "An historical".
i wish he talked more about several variants of bows. shortbow, longbow, recurved bow, compound bow, crossbow, ballista, arbalest. only the compound bow got mentioned though
Doom Maker arbalest is a late version of crossbow that was ergonomically more like a gun and used steel prods/bow. also the crossbow and ballista is still a bow but used in a different way
He probably will talk about crossbows in a separate video eventually, since they seem to have a unique relevance compared to the other kinds of bows you mentioned when it comes to video games.
I think it depends on the type of bow, the english longbow required so much strength that the skeletons of the archers had bone deformation because of the extreme pressures exerted on them because they trained their achers during their growt growth
requires much more dexterity than swinging a sharp piece of metal. all relative. not that there isn't some art to using a Sword, but you can get a lot further with just brute force with a Sword than you can with a Bow.
Taiiat - start searching for videos on swordfighting or melee in general. You will be surprised, but everything is exactly the opposite of what you said. All you had to do with a bow is draw it back, which required a lot of strength and then shoot it in the general direction of the enemy together with however many archer the army had. There's no finesse or dexterity needed to operate a bow in a war setting at all nor outside it. When for example hunting, a good aim was needed, but it was all still in the arm muscles, as the bow needed to be kept steady even though the draw strength was usually around 350 newtons. In melee nothing was this easy as both sides are armed, both sides are defending themselves and even if you hit with a wild swing you're opening yourself up to get hit as well. Both before and after the introduction of plate armor, melee required a ton of knowledge on techniques and a lot of courage. There are thousands of medieval books on how to fight in melee that are still used today due to their validity.
Pan Limak Can confirm. I shoot recurve bows for competition and training for half an hour by doing sets of 12 arrows in 2 minutes is enough to make my arm fatigued , trying to land an accurate shot beyond 1 hour training is nigh impossible due to muscle fatigue.
thanks for the bias - swinging an object can get a lot further because you don't require to cut to be effective. it's a good way to but it's not required. see also: Greatswords - exta large metal baseball bats. it all requires much strength, that's aside from pairing that strength with things other than it.
In my opinion, a bow can be interesting as a sci-fi weapon, whether it's armed with arrows constructed from lasers, or a compound bow made with high-tech polymers, it's cool to see a character toting a stringed weapon in a time where lasers are the norm.
Rock me, Joey Santiago. "A chance to cast off the treachery of modern life" Chick-fil-a ad starts playing 2 seconds after the words leave Stuart's mouth
What is most hilarious to me is that although the bow was discarded in war due to it's inability to provide enough propulsion, the arrow still has a niche use in modern militaries. A modern APFSDS (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) tank round is literally a large all-metal arrow fired at extreme velocity. Active armor does little to stop it too; the only real defense is more and denser armor. The arrow: the original kinetic penetrator, and now perfected to take down prey that nature could never create.
"The Bow and Arrow" Please say silent. "Elegant," silent? "Effective," stealthy? "Eternal" (goosebumps) and thats why he should do the videos and not I.
ShadowBanana I'm not into RED just yet, there's not enough series that entertain me yet, but the quality of some of those shows are still lower than this. Ahoy's animations are clean, simplistic and beautiful. The narration is done very well. His research is vast and his final work is extremely in depth. Yes, he may miss out some games here and there, but it's not like he can get everything. He chooses what he thinks to be the most important. It's absolutely amazing

"That bow has enough kinetic energy to stop a charging Rhino in it's tracks." Ahhh the Crysis Predator Bow. You will always be my favorite weapon in all of video gaming.
The bow and arrow, this primitive weapon was first developed by the legendary John browning in 1901. Its simple design became the back bone of the American arms industry.
THIEF: THE DARK PROJECT stands out as a great use of the bow in a game, not just as weapon, but as a multi-tool, where water arrows are used to douse light sources, and rope arrows act kind of like a grappling hook. :)
Ow come on! A Bow & Arrow episode without any mention of the "Thief" series? ow well... Fine episode anyway. I just love how profesional you are not asking for likes subs and comments like a peasant. Edit: it was pointed out to me that at 19:12 when the word "thief" is droped it shows footage of the 2014 Thief game. My only excuse is that I knew the game was gonna be shit so I never played that one and did not recognize it when shown.
MrTBSC Sharing matters for spreading a video. Ahoy is a living proof you do not need to beg like a pathetic looser to be viewed and have a shit-ton of subs.
Eryk Rejner sharing is just another way to get views but that is user dependant to spread to other platforms .. doing something simple as clicking the like/dislikebutton (doesn't matter which of the two) raises the possibility of the video being more visible in general without the need of a subscription with the way youtubes algorithm works doesn't matter if someone asks for it or not .. i personaly don't see the harm in that if the person in question provides me with entertaining or compeling content
MrTBSC Well good for you. I personaly take the lack of asking for anything as a breath of fresh air. Not to ask is like a statement "I am confident in what I do and I do not need to ask for anything".
Eryk Rejner yea i get that too many people asking for it may make it annoying or weak .. but on the other hand not asking for it may aswell mean that many less people helping a genuinly good video to become more viral which imo is a bit of a shame ... and i saw (and i'm sure you too) many good videos that i found criminaly underwatched .. weither people ask for the likes or not

Casual is not a negative. It just means the target audience of Skyrim was the mass market, which is true. There are game design compromises you make because of that and hardcore fans won't like that, but if you like it then don't worry about it.

In British English, "an historical" is actually perfectly acceptable, if a little snooty.
Jaxon Duin that is the correct way to say it.
a historical. h is not a vowel
Christopher Puzey An hour. An heir. An historical.
Incorrect. In the words you list, the "h" is not pronounced (hour is pronounced as "our", heir as "eir"). the h IS pronounced in historical, so it is incorrect to say "An historical".

I know why does this have any disliked there is so much effort and such amazing execution
I disliked because a twenty minute video didn’t debunk any myths about bows.
Carler1 some people just want to se the world on fire :|
I bow before the greatness of the bow
i wish he talked more about several variants of bows. shortbow, longbow, recurved bow, compound bow, crossbow, ballista, arbalest. only the compound bow got mentioned though
Crossbow and balista are completly different than bow amd ammo is called bolts. Oh and what this Arbalest is?
Doom Maker arbalest is a late version of crossbow that was ergonomically more like a gun and used steel prods/bow. also the crossbow and ballista is still a bow but used in a different way
Quhark Atkali And easily wielded, like a gun. Loading is a little difficult, but not too much.
He probably will talk about crossbows in a separate video eventually, since they seem to have a unique relevance compared to the other kinds of bows you mentioned when it comes to video games.
I never understood why bows became a symbol of dexterity, given how much strength you need to use one effectively.
I shoot recurve bows for competition and training for half an hour by doing sets of 12 arrows in 2 minutes is enough to make my arm fatigued , trying to land an accurate shot beyond 1 hour training is nigh impossible due to muscle fatigue.
thanks for the bias - swinging an object can get a lot further because you don't require to cut to be effective. it's a good way to but it's not required.
see also: Greatswords - exta large metal baseball bats.
it all requires much strength, that's aside from pairing that strength with things other than it.
i think the single best word to describe everything ahoy does is
"Slick"
Ryukachoo you mispelled "Perfect"
In my opinion, a bow can be interesting as a sci-fi weapon, whether it's armed with arrows constructed from lasers, or a compound bow made with high-tech polymers, it's cool to see a character toting a stringed weapon in a time where lasers are the norm.

ShadowBanana I'm not into RED just yet, there's not enough series that entertain me yet, but the quality of some of those shows are still lower than this. Ahoy's animations are clean, simplistic and beautiful. The narration is done very well. His research is vast and his final work is extremely in depth. Eryk Rejner yea but thing is they DO matter for spreading the video
MrTBSC Sharing matters for spreading a video. Ahoy is a living proof you do not need to beg like a pathetic looser to be viewed and have a shit-ton of subs.
Eryk Rejner sharing is just another way to get views but that is user dependant to spread to other platforms .. doing something simple as clicking the like/dislikebutton (doesn't matter which of the two) raises the possibility of the video being more visible in general without the need of a subscription with the way youtubes algorithm works
doesn't matter if someone asks for it or not .. i personaly don't see the harm in that if the person in question provides me with entertaining or compeling content
