Night of the Living Dead 1968 was probably the biggest turning point in my cinema culture, watched it for the fun of watching a silly old black and white movie and it got my attention from the first second to the very end. Highly recommend watching it, and after that 1978 Dawn of the Dead, old school zombie movies kick ass.
I did a project on the book Warm Bodies, and during my entire presentation the class and judges just looked at me strangely due to the simple nature of the story. The assignment asked us to break down the actual goings on of the story and not the nuance. Afterward I spoke with a judge because I was kinda nervous about how well I did, and brought up why I like zombie stories. It's not the actual creatures that are fascinating, but the moral dilemma they present. When stripped of laws and put into a world where your only goal is to survive, what do you do? Would you still be what many consider a good person? What psychological effects would this type of apocalypse have? I also explained the other parts of what makes WB a good book. The great dialogue, pacing, and characterization are all key to the story. After my explanation, she told me I was one of the smartest teenagers she's ever met. Story time ending, those things are what makes zombie movies good. In terms of gameplay the concept of zombies is a perfect fit. You can mold them to horror OR just kill them in droves. An enemy that you have basically an infinite amount of which you can fight? Beautiful. Or you can go the Walking Dead route and see the moral issues of the apocalypse. Resident Evil like games go for horror. Breaking down how popular culture works is a favorite pastime for me, if you couldn't tell. Thank you for reading, I don't know how to end this comment well.

it makes me really sad to see Contagion being so forgotten (although mentioned in this video) That game, to this date, has the most captivating atmosphere of any zombie game ever.. the sound alone had me blown away.
Wow that film at around 2:00 is from 1932? The picture quality is amazing, I didn't realize this kinda quality was possible back then, like when you watch film of world war 2 stuff from the 40's the quality is awful same with sports footage like the 1966 world cup final etc.
that's because that footage probably wasn't transfered digitally from the original reels, which are generally pretty well-preserved with most major films.
old films have a really great quality (some old cameras could have "resolutions" higher than digital cameras), the reason why sport footage looked horribly is because they were broadcasted with analog signal to television, and at that time bandwith and signal loss were a serious concern. Probably movies at the cinema from the 40s look as good as todays
I like how you said Halo: Combat Evolved when you were talking about Zombies Expiring again when Halo has the Flood, a fungal parasite that turns any flesh and tissue as a way to grow and zombies (combat forms) running at you bringing down your shields than infecting you with an infection form
I'd love to see a follow-up/successor to this video about the 'alien space cancer' trope, a la The Flood, Blacklight Virus, The Infestation, etc. I feel like it's fairly closely related to zombies, but I've never quite been able to pin down where it's particular aesthetic of hive minds, huge spore masses growing over everything, and giant glowing orange pustules originated. It feels almost self-perpetuating as a game trope, but I dont remember really seeing it outside of games.
Without a doubt, the same guy that delivers the weapon guides for those games. He made a list of Iconic Arms, too; guns that made themselves into games and movies, most notably the popular kind that appears a lot of times.
Always intriguing to see the history of our culture. But watching this only makes me wonder... Will you ever cover the two other timeless monsters - vampires and werewolves?
The robots in tf2's mvm work similarly in terms of behavior, mimicking the humans and killing them. There are differences likw lack of infection and non - organic but yeah.
11:20 Showing Halo while talking about Zombies going out the door is a little discordant. After all, The Flood is an important antagonist, and they are basically space zombie hivemind aliens. Not to mention a ton of games had "zombie modes" or "horde mode," like Counter Strike.
Counter Strike never had a zombie mode, if you are talking about the nexon games. they are modifications of 1.6 and are not in the main counter strike series.
We need more content like this on RUclips instead of all the DRAMA channels popping up! This is the rarest of EPIC LOOT! Keep it up Ahoy, you content is top notch quality!
I’m pretty sure both Zombies and Metal Gear will come back, buddy. The only problem with the later is getting the rights away from Konami, once Hideo Kojima wants to make another game.
What somewhat can terrify me about zombies is A: Bones exposed with blood n organs coming out B: Looks horrible where is can even scare Giga Chad C: Runs and Crawls the speed of a fighter jet D: IT CAN SWIM?! E: Holds a revolver F: It's Fucking Arthur Morgan or John Marsten
Darn, was hoping for mention of Romero's accidental loss of copyrights, part of what spurned imitators forth. Much like certain Christmas 'classics', nothing like your movie being played in the off-hours of many channels, just because its in the commons. Also love the nod to Urban Dead, forgot about that quirky mess, been so many years.
You take a thousand shots, you're bound to hit one. You take a million shots, you're bound to hit thousands. That's the nature of Zombies in video games.
Resident Evil has "slightly" awkward controls??? The horrible controls are the number one reason I've never played through any of the RE games. It's like the designers went out of their way to make controlling the game as difficult as possible. Anyway... One thing I've never understood is why there are so few campaign oriented, single-player zombie FPS games. You have multi-player games, co-op games, survivalist games, tactical games, sandbox games, etc. But when it comes to straight-forward FPS games with a single-player campaign, you can practically count the zombie games on the fingers of one hand and probably half of those games aren't very well liked. Sure, zombies show up in a lot of FPS games, like Half-Life, Blood, etc, but why are there so few FPS games exclusively focusing on traditional undead zombies?
There's a game called no more room in hell, and I wanted him to talk about, because I personally think it's the most realistic zombies simulator you can ever played. Also, I don't understand you.
+Sinon They're saying that the games he pointed out were the best examples he could have used for each of his points. To respond to your original post, I doubt that No More Room In Hell is known nearly as well as the majority of the titles mentioned, hence why it probably wasn't used.

"If those ain't zombies, then what would you call them?"
uh... consumers?
it's not fair to have these videos released while you're at work
"The trouble with zombies... is that they keep coming back."
BrRrRrRrR
Shivers down my spine.
Man this guy is great at narrating videos, never been so entranced watching an informative style videos before in my life.
Anybody happen to know the music played during the intro in the background, thought I was pretty kick ass but the name isn't showen anywhere
The Truth Bringer just in case you havent found it yet, stuart brown has a soundcloud where the music from these videos can be found
m.soundcloud.com/xahoy/zombies
Zombie = Enemy that walks towards you and attacks when it gets close.
The real question is how many licks does it take to get the the center of a tootsie pop
205,yes I actually sat down and did this.
+Rajbir Dhadda No you didn't
+Rajbir Dhadda my saliva is very corrosive so for me 78
+JJ Muffins he totally did
Ahoy could make a 5-part series to answer that question. And I would watch every second of it.
Lest we forget Shaun of the Dead, one of the greatest movies ever made.
I think the flood from halo 3 is the most unique zombie experience. The enemies were so vile that it literally made me sick when I played it.
Game: Day Z or Left for Dead.
Movie: Dawn of the dead, return of the living dead.
Song: Thriller duuuh lol
Can't believe he didn't mention the 2004 Dawn of the Dead
Africa isn't the only origins. For example, they appeared in Greek mythology as cursed servants.
courperationX and Haiti
Aren't mummies basically zombies but in bandages?
And wights (I think that’s how you spell it?) from Norse mythology.
You are like Vsauce.
Uploading pretty rarely, but the Videos make up for it :D
Always intriguing to see the history of our culture. But watching this only makes me wonder...
Will you ever cover the two other timeless monsters - vampires and werewolves?
The robots in tf2's mvm work similarly in terms of behavior, mimicking the humans and killing them. There are differences likw lack of infection and non - organic but yeah.
Weird comparison that you made just because you like TF2 (me too mate) but ok
Rest easy Mr. Romero. You’re the reason the modern zombie exists

*Me A Minecrafter: CONFUSED SCREAMING*
"They're coming to get you, Barbara" - Night of the Living Dead
"We're coming to get you, Barbara!" - Shaun of the Dead
Amazing

Showing Halo while talking about Zombies going out the door is a little discordant.
I was a bit surprised bc there was no Prototype games. Good stuff with viral infection zombies.
Am I the only one or did the intro reminds me of the intro of "Night of the living Pharmacists" from Phineas and Ferb?
So does Ahoy compose all his music himself?
I love the music he puts in the videos.
0:16 they'll kepp just doing what?
I remember watching this 3 years ago.
Stu Is Back From The Dead... Get It "Dead"... Zombies... OK I'll Stop.
We need more content like this on RUclips instead of all the DRAMA channels popping up! This is the rarest of EPIC LOOT! Keep it up Ahoy, you content is top notch quality!
21:53 They might keep coming back, and "Thou canst not kill that which does not live.." ... But you can blast it into chunky kibbles!
youtube: game: *PLANTS VS ZOMBIES*
2019: Unturned
"When will it die?"
Metal Gear Survive. Yeah.
I’m pretty sure both Zombies and Metal Gear will come back, buddy. The only problem with the later is getting the rights away from Konami, once Hideo Kojima wants to make another game.
16:26 what a smooth transition
I truly do cream at your uploads. Your content is fucking god tier.
RIP George A. Romero
What somewhat can terrify me about zombies is
A: Bones exposed with blood n organs coming out
B: Looks horrible where is can even scare Giga Chad
C: Runs and Crawls the speed of a fighter jet
D: IT CAN SWIM?!
E: Holds a revolver
F: It's Fucking Arthur Morgan or John Marsten
Dying light is the best modern zombie video game and Resident Evil 1-3 are the best of the 90s
Indeed.
Veteran Gamer Ever heard of No More Room in Hell? Try that, it's great.
I'm gonna go ahead and say L4D2 requires much more teamwork and in my opinion is better, but each to their own
Opinionated, for Project Zomboid is CLEARLY THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME NOT OPINION
project zomboid? now that's a name i havent heard in a long time
The next video is Iconic Arms?
I can't wait :D
Me too mate :)
I am with you there.
+Call of duty:infinite warfare confetti gun
The M60? Only popular gun I can think of.
+Call of duty:infinite warfare I would like to see a Lee Enfield.
Man there are so many decent zombie titles out there interspersed with absolute shit :P
You take a thousand shots, you're bound to hit one. You take a million shots, you're bound to hit thousands. That's the nature of Zombies in video games.
zombi
Generally Awesome ahem, The Last Of Us and Dead Rising
Project Zomboid
Call of Duty Black Ops series and Zombie Army Trilogy are my favorites to watch when it comes to zombies.
L4D2 and Minecraft are good as well.
No more room in hell, why won't you talk about.
im fairly certain he mentioned HOW FUCKING MANY THERE ARE
and so he got the best examples for each of points
There's a game called no more room in hell, and I wanted him to talk about, because I personally think it's the most realistic zombies simulator you can ever played. Also, I don't understand you.
+Sinon They're saying that the games he pointed out were the best examples he could have used for each of his points. To respond to your original post, I doubt that No More Room In Hell is known nearly as well as the majority of the titles mentioned, hence why it probably wasn't used.
+Kung Fu Fishy (KungFuFishy) I know it's less known, but it's really a good but underrated game.
"Also, I don't understand you" i thought i was being clear as sky xD
