About the time I started riding my mother comes home with two new half helmets and asked me to wear one.(I said ok,but only one) she made those two helmets herself. Dam that’s a really quick turnaround time!!! How long did it actually take in real time? I don’t like to judge off of RUclips time. Does he offer to paint or powder coat the jugs for ya, or would you have had to go and get them done separately before he assembled it?

Yeah not good on the back moving them around. Wow that china helmet looked like a shit push bike helmet. Wow Tom your de man. Ps the Mexican hat is cool. Great video 👍
here in kansas truett and osborne are the old school guys that were known for balanced flywheels that made those shovels pretty smooth bikes like your content
Not sure yet on the ignition...still have some time to make up my mind...he got finished with that motor fast...winter time would probably be a good time for you to do that..👍
No it's not. The shovelhead was good for the sixties but couldn't keep up. The Evo came out as a shovel on steroids that could hold together. The Evo saved Harley from going out of business, energized the whole motorcycle industry in general, and was one of the greatest engines ever to roll down the road of any kind.
103 ci is too big for a shovel. You will have issues with starting it. Ask me how I know. The starter, Bendix, kicker gear, wiring, clutch and solenoid were not designed for that much compression and power. I had to downsize mine to 93ci by going with smaller pistons and jugs.
@@shovelheadffej I loved my bike when it was 103ci, when it started that is. The more you twist the throttle the more she would accelerate. It was a blast especially after inhaling some of the Devil's cabbage. My bike is 93ci now and still lots of fun. And it starts every time now. I can even kick start if required. King Kong couldn't kick start the 103ci. Maybe you can but I'm only about 160 lbs. Have fun my friend. Keep them shovels alive! I have 2 straight pipes and I'd like to connect them to have a 2 into 1 exhaust. Any ideas on how I can do that? I have STD heads which have the 3 bolt attachments so off the shelf exhausts are hard to find. .
Anyone that says shovel is the best motor Harley made don’t ride there bike hard and is most definitely a mechanic to keep that thing running. Any real Rider knows the evo was the best
To me the shovel is the most esthetically pleasing. In my younger years the evo was everything that was bad going on in the world...I own evos, I love Evos, I just love the shovel more...and yes I hammered on shovels till they broke and tried to fix the problem...they are what they are...older technology than the evo...✌
@@shovelheadffej but are we talking looks or the motor Actually being good? Cause the video didn’t say best looking motor. A shovel can’t even hold a candle to a evo on any level. Looks I’d prob give to the pan head really
@@riffraffchoppers it's all opinions..what is mine worth, I'm just a guy that made a video expressing my opinion..there is measurement to quantify either of our opinions...if we were sitting around having a few cold ones, we could talk for several hours...I weigh the good and the bad on both motors and to me the shovel pulls ahead because I just think it's a beautiful motor...you may think my girl is ugly but she's still my girl..✌
@@shovelheadffej there is most definitely a measure for better. If you wanna say looks ok that’s one opinion and let’s say you’re right there is literally not another single thing better about a shovel than an evo

A friend of mine has a stroked Shovelhead he takes out now and then. He is up in age and says the thing scares him
I thought the Evo was the best motor hd ever built! I ride a 96 twin and work on it often! So far so good, with 65,000 miles!
I have owned three shovels and I loved them, but get them up to speed on the hiway and they start sucking wind. The five speed FXR that I owned was better but still not very fast.
I just stumbled across your channel and I like your style. I just subscribed. Have a good day man.
Kinda of expected more about shovelheads but good video anyways. Thank you for your content
Thanks for watching Nick. Plenty of shovelhead videos to come. This is a series on this particular giveaway bike.
I love my 2020 lowrider 107 M.8.
1:53 music title? please tell me
Thats gonna run that chaff cutter machine like nothing else, because the EVO is the most reliable motor they ever built and thats a fact JACK
Evo is in my opinion the must reliable, but the shovel is the best looking...✌👍
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
That Snaggletooth air cleaner!
I lost about 15 minutes of videos of that bike and several others owned by the same guy...really cool story...next time I go back I will reshoot it...✌
@@shovelheadffej do you know where he got the air cleaner?
Facebook marketplace...but it originally came from England..really cool looking in person...
I would've changed all nuts and bolts to stainless so they wouldn't rust
I watch your videos and I’m Chinese…Jeff😂😂😂
🤣...Damn...Should have said I have no subscribers viewing from china...😉✌...stick around I'll insult some other country next week..🤣
👍👍
Thanks Jim...👍✌
@@shovelheadffej looking forward to seeing the results!
Dam that’s a really quick turnaround time!!! How long did it actually take in real time? I don’t like to judge off of RUclips time. Does he offer to paint or powder coat the jugs for ya, or would you have had to go and get them done separately before he assembled it?
The whole thing took about 2 1/2 weeks...he shop stays busy but he gets stuff done...pretty much however you want it done and how you want it done,he'll do it...super easy guy to work with...
I have a 72 stroker shovel that runs like a cheetah. I've out run a lot of bikes that pulled up beside me after I whooped there ass and said, what the hell have you got in that thing.
Great video Ffej!!!😁
It was the dance moves..🕺🤣
@@shovelheadffej definitely the dance moves, along with the sombrero and cigar.😂
The cigar was for me the sombrero was for the ladies..can never go wrong wearing a fancy sombrero 🦸♂️
great video brother as always
👍👍✌
Hey ffej, i don’t know if you noticed this or not, im not being a jerk, i just wanted to know if you noticed the front cylinder head, the third fin down from the top, the side to the right of the spark plug, has a crack starting to develop on that fin. Again im not trying to be a jerk or a troll, it was just something i happened to notice while watching. And if you already know about it, sorry to bother you with this!! Motor still looks good!!👍
No worries slickhead he said tried to weld it but he couldn't...he told me the reason why he couldn't but I just can't remember...🤦♂️and I know you're not a troll 👍..hope you channel keeps growing, we need more like yours...✌
Brother Mate , G'day to you and Choppa Rod , as all ways love your work , I love Jockey Shift so I'll have that one thank's Brother , I'll be watching the mail , It looks like that Stroker Shovel stuff your back well you wont need it now , so just send it to me as well .😉

Cool bikes in that shop 😎. Is that a bulldog or gargoyle carby air cleaner. Your rebuilt 103 and 74 cube motors are cool 😎.Amazing your mechanic could replace the motor fins. Yeah not good on the back moving them around. Wow that china helmet looked like a shit push bike helmet. Wow Tom your de man. Ps the Mexican hat is cool. Great video 👍

Great question...Squirrel at Verdow Motorworks did the bottom end. That was way beyond my pay grade lol
here in kansas truett and osborne are the old school guys that were known for balanced flywheels that made those shovels pretty smooth bikes like your content
What's going on, Ffej, dam Squirel did that motor fast, seemed like it was about 3 weeks. Anyway, yall have a good one down their, see ya next time.
Yeah it was like 2 1/2 weeks way quicker than I expected...thanks Drifter...👍✌
@@shovelheadffej yes sir
best HD motor? nah, best SOUNDING HD motor? yup.
So I guess you are going to keep that evo ignition. Been thinking of pulling my motor out and having gone through just for the peace of mind.
Not sure yet on the ignition...still have some time to make up my mind...he got finished with that motor fast...winter time would probably be a good time for you to do that..👍

What is the story on setting valves ?
does the purple bike has 1 pan head and 1 shovel head on the bike ?
No, but I've seen that before, I think maybe the next one I build I'm going to do that..👍✌️
Good motor Just don't over rev them.
Would a say 75 iron head be simuler looking about like a shovel

No it's not. The shovelhead was good for the sixties but couldn't keep up. The Evo came out as a shovel on steroids that could hold together. The Evo saved Harley from going out of business, energized the whole motorcycle industry in general, and was one of the greatest engines ever to roll down the road of any kind.
Lots and lots of issues with shovels.. hard-core HD fans just learned to adapt overcome and cope to the point of normalizing the flaws..
103 ci is too big for a shovel. You will have issues with starting it. Ask me how I know. The starter, Bendix, kicker gear, wiring, clutch and solenoid were not designed for that much compression and power. I had to downsize mine to 93ci by going with smaller pistons and jugs.
Breaking things is my Specialty. Been running this motor since the 90's...it's not for everyone...but not the most reliable
I have STD heads which have the 3 bolt attachments so off the shelf exhausts are hard to find.
.
The best motor Harley ever made?…….. not even close. It is ONE of my favorites but not the best……………
Troublehead
That they are...👍✌
Anyone that says shovel is the best motor Harley made don’t ride there bike hard and is most definitely a mechanic to keep that thing running. Any real
Rider knows the evo was the best
To me the shovel is the most esthetically pleasing. In my younger years the evo was everything that was bad going on in the world...I own evos, I love Evos, I just love the shovel more...and yes I hammered on shovels till they broke and tried to fix the problem...they are what they are...older technology than the evo...✌
@@shovelheadffej but are we talking looks or the motor
Actually being good?
Trouble Head.
Definitely a troubled head but in a good kind of way.🤣✌️
Evo ,wont look back and wont look forward
