KNOW all about STOP SIGNS + RIGHT OF WAY - 1 || Right of way rules | New Drivers Tips on stop signs

  • In this video I show you situations related to the right of way at stop signs. A lot of new drivers get confused at intersections with stops signs. This video is intended to help everyone understand how make it smooth at such intersections.
A stop sign is used to control traffic and is usually found at road intersections. Stop signs instruct drivers about the right of way and ensure proper notice is taken to avoid accidents. Standard stop signs are red octagons with “STOP” printed in white letters. When you see one at any corner or intersection, know that you must stop and proceed only if the way ahead is clear, and after obeying any rules regarding right of way.

I encounter multiple 4-way stops on my daily commute. There are so many people that should watch this video. Many people have no idea what to do when at a 4-way stop. Lots of times I just flash my lights to yield right of way as to make things run smoother. I wish they would focus more on this on driving tests. Great video!!!

I had awful experiences at 4-way stop signs when I was first learning to drive. One time it was like the 'car that goes straight goes before the car turning left' situation, but also, I thought that the car turning left got to the intersection slightly first. They weren't moving though so I inched into the intersection, and as soon I would do that they would do the exact same. It didn't help that my mom was literally screaming at me the whole time (to go)

In your 4 arrive simultaneously, after you creeped out and proceeded, *the next 2 cars proceeded incorrectly in reverse order* (3 o'clock, 12 o'clock, then 9 o'clock)
They were NOT to go because they had been *to Your right,* they each should have yielded to the car on *their own right.*
The proper order of priority was 9, 12, and finally 3.

Adding the complication of several pedestrians crossing at different crossings to this video at the same time on busy intersections would be really helpful. I think this would add yet another layer of complexity to video.

Great Explanations! Thank you so much. I have been driving 42yrs, and this morning at a 2 way stop, crossing a 50 mph main road, I stopped after a car across from me. They were signaling a left turn. Hours of searching after making it home safe, led to finding that 2 way stops are so different from 3 and 4 way stops. It needs to be made very clear to most casual drivers. You did that here. The point can't be driven home enough though. The fact that the other 3 and 4 ways stops are FIFO, causes so many drivers you meet in the 2 way situation, to follow that rule. So beware, even though the difference of the 2 way shows best in bad weather, being right isn't always the best way to stay alive. Making a left turn in right hand driving countries, normally changes a drivers right of way, say north-south to east- west. Progression through an intersection does not.

IMPORTANT: When you determine you have the ROW, you need to then make sure people actually stop. If you have the ROW it's easy to assume you can pull out and that other's will stop. Many people have been killed or seriously injured because they the ROW and assume others are going to stop. If you have the ROW but don't want to pull out (because a vehicle might run a stop sign), and you notice another driver is staring at you (because they are waiting for you) - just waive the ROW to him and that will relieve the pressure to pull out and you can wait a few seconds more to make sure you don't pull out and die. ROW DOES NOT MEAN IT'S SAFE TO PULL OUT.

These rules date back decades and yet the majority won't put it in practice ! This entire video is correct from start to finish. I'm a one time driver education and instructor and have always enjoyed the road for well over 55 years. Well done !

Great video. Please when all the 4 cars came at the same time, how do i know the car that is on the right hand side?

I learnt reverse and parallel parking by watching your video. It made it so simple.🙏😊
1:10 was the best tip if you are struck in 4 way traffic.thanks👍
2:15 the car which stops first at white line gets to go first, Pro tip. Thank You

Actually, his advice at 1:10 was wrong, with respect to who goes after him. The car to his left should have been next. When there are 3 cars at a stop, the car without any car to his right is the first to go. After he has done through, the only car without a car to his right is the one that started on his left.

@@TorontoDrivers Thank you for your delicate video. But I feel confused about the traffic sequence after your car at 1:10. In fact, I agree with Apoc Morrow's comment because his idea is aligned with yours that the person on the right hand side goes first. Do you think so?

@@cnelsonlv99 Don't care much for the 'yield the right' rule do you ? I often deal with you everyday in traffic. Not pleasant every time.

Hi if possible can you please make a video explaining chapter 5 in the NY driver’s manual?

Excellent depiction! Thank you so much. I have just only one confusion. While all the cars stop at the same time, anyone who will start moving first will be the first right car. And the car of its left should be the next to go as that one yielded the right of way to its right-side car. Am I correct? Please help me to understand.
