When I was sixteen, and not too long after I had my driver's license, I was involved in a traffic accident that was my fault! It was late at night and I was in a rush to get home. I came to an intersection where I needed to turn left across traffic. I turned hurriedly, misjudging the speed of the car that was approaching. The other driver's car hit my car (actually, my dad's car) in the trunk area, and the resulting crash did thousands of dollars in damages to both of our vehicles. Fortunately, neither of us was injured in anyway, just a little shook up. That was a terrible experience, and resulted in my getting a traffic ticket for "Failure To Yield", along with having to tell my father what I'd done! I learned my lesson, and I wanted to make this video in hopes that it would help some of you to avoid an accident like this. Intersections are where a lot of accidents happen and where many drivers are seriously injured, so always approach and proceed through intersections with caution. This is what shocked when I first came to this country left turns are very different and dangerous from my country in dubai. Over there we dont have to worry about pedestrian or oncoming traffic because they have a red light. I feel its safer in dubai than here
I'm really nervous about taking my test. I had to give up driving over 30 years ago because of a seizure disorder and am finally seizure free now and have my permit, but it's been a long time since i've driven. I pray i will pass. I've waited over 30 yrs. to drive again! These videos are sure helpful for me. Thank you!

Good thing lights will eventually give you a green arrow protection if the yielding takes too long
I have a lot of anxiety around driving and recently got a job that takes me into town (I'm used to more rural back roads) theres two very busy intersections I have to make lefts in and they make me so nervous.

You're story at the beginning is exactly what happened to me recently. Thank you for this video and saying what happened to you. I'm not a reckless driver or a speed demon, I just got confused and made a mistake. I should have just paused and waited.

I am fortunate that nobody was hurt and I learned how to be more aware and safe when driving.
Very glad to hear that no one, including you, was hurt! Close calls can get the heart racing, but can also be good lessons to help us become better and safer drivers. I’m afraid I’ve learned too many things that way, but they were lessons that stuck with me.
I had the same story like yours I made a mistake instead of waiting I went on but thankfully no was hurt but damaged our cars

I already have my license and is out of practice for a year. Was in a car accident a year ago with my mom driving that gave me ptsd even though the accident wasn't too bad and we only had light injuries that healed after a couple of months x3 The other driver pulled out without checking for traffic and did an unprotected left turn onto the main road while my mom was going 45, the speed limit, and we slammed straight into them. Since then I've been super scared of driving XD I barely drive around my own block and barely to the gas station now. I've been driving more lately as I came out of the ptsd shell but I still feel very scared of making turns so I decided to watch your video! Thanks for the video, it was very informative and helped me gain a bit of confidence. Especially the part with the gap! If i don't feel safe making a turn then I should just keep waiting without letting the cars behind me worry me too much

I faced the 'Left Turn Yield On Green' situation today as I proceeded to the middle of the lane and quickly realized that I could potentially block the oncoming traffic. So I backed up a bit. This is a good video on making left turns, I get nervous sometimes when making unprotected left turns on green light, especially when there's a lot of traffic, just 3 years ago I was in an accident making a left turn on green light, I was waiting at the intersection and the light turned green, at first I thought it was safe to go so I went, there was a median in the middle of the intersection, it was that kind of intersection, while I was making the turn I ended up hitting a car that was going in the opposite direction, at first I didn't see the car, it happened so fast, by that time it was too late, of course I was at fault and I got a traffic violation, lesson learned I guess, so now I try to be careful when making a left turn especially at a green light instead of a green arrow, watching your video helps.
8:49 I needed this advice.A car behind honked like a crazy man at 4 seconds gap yesterday. I almost got traumatized by that. This video gives courage to me.
Thank you so so so much! You explained everything crystal clear! I never understood how making a left turn on an intersection worked, I'd just follow my dad's orders. There was a time I entered the intersection and didn't know who to look out for so I tried making a left although there was a car going straight ahead already. Dad yelled to brake so I did and that scared me away from driving for a while. Problem is, he never really explained what my error was.
But damn, this video is gonna push me directly to a driving test already! The intersection was the only thing holding me back. (And going reverse then parking, but whatever)

thanks for making your video so detailed and thorough. i'm a newer driver, having just got my license a year ago and my first car only two weeks ago, but a few days ago i was in an accident because i made a left turn and failed to gauged the speed of an oncoming car. thankfully we were both fine, but it was a really frightening experience that traumatized me quite a bit. i'm incredibly nervous around left hand turns now, but your video has helped me feel like i understand them a bit better, so thank you so much.

Thanks for this! I’ve been doing lessons all week and have my last lesson tomorrow, followed by my test shortly after. Left turns at green lights make me so anxious! Same with hill parking. Knowing when to start turning the wheel left is what I struggle with.

I usually never give thanks on a youtube video but seriously! thanks a TON cuz this video came up right when I needed it! I just saw a video of a person failing their driver’s test because they didn’t yield to the other driver across from them when the sign said to yield on green. Just thinking about the fact that a scenario like that could also happen to me when I’m taking my driver’s test, is mostly the number one thing that I fear the most. I was thinking of searching up videos on how to deal with that, but ironically, my recommended page did it for me so now I’m here 😂
