LYFT SHOULD SUE THAT PD, AND THE CITY
If Police will go Lyft undercover for a minor misdemeanor traffic ticket, would they go under cover for public intoxication? That's a good chunk of Lyft customers. Citizens try to be responsible and get arrested. Will this cause more people to drink and drive? This was the poorest thought-out idea I've ever heard of.
That’s unnecessary… we love our officers

It’s Also possible he wrote the ticket for under 10 over to save the woman $ and insurance points. Yes, often tickets are written for less than they could have been.
He had to go faster than that to catch up to her just to give her the damn ticket. Smh
Which would be legal.
Doesn't FL have a problem with a guy who has been arrested multiple times for impersonating a police officer?

You mean installing a lyft sticker AND bar lights? Rub a couple brain cells together, champ. If they can get their hands on the light equipment, why would they use the sticker? Not the brightest comment
Huh? They already do lol
That shouldn’t be legal. How would she know he’s a real officer? What if he was just saying that? Allowing stuff like this makes it way too easy for people to pose as cops.
Years back I got pulled over by what I thought was a fake cop or a cop in a personal vehicle (which means off duty and just a citizen like the rest of us). Guy knocked on my window at a red light and started to ask for my license. I told him I don't listen to fake cops and drove off.
The best place to drive to is the closest police station.
This is the correct way to deal with any suspected fake cop. They got my license plate. They know where I live, if it truly is a real cop, they will show up there. If you have a phone, you might be able to call into 911 and confirm it, but if you don't have a phone for whatever reason.
As for me, never heard another thing about it. So it was either a totally fake cop, or an off duty one that had no legal ability to a) be in a personal vehicle (his wife or gf was in the passenger seat and yelling at him to get back in) and using it for traffic stuff and b) be off duty and still pretending that they are on duty.

My friend actually ran from the “cops” because of this situation here. A car that was confiscated in a street racing case by law enforcement ( Camero or mustang idk it was a 2 door v8 ) was tailgating us & weaving so my friend made a u turn & dude followed. Dude turned on his lights & my friend freaked out and said he didn’t know if it was cop or we were getting robbed so he sped off. They had his plate & gave him a ticket the next day. Didn’t arrest him. He was charged with speeding , reckless driving to endanger , wanton disregard. He went to court, the dismissed everything & kept the reckless driving charge.
So yea this isn’t safe, people need to be sure it’s law enforcement, which means when law enforcement interacts with the public they need to be in uniform & so do their cars.
This going incognito has & is going to cause more harm than good. Why you ask? Because it’ll make criminals behave more aggressively by surprising them & even worse, you are confusing normal citizens about who is pulling them over. There are too many crazy people with road rage, carjackers, stalkers etc. We as a country are going into a mass surveillance state and fast. No trust anywhere, everyone sharing information & stealing personal info. No privacy in your home/apt & no personal space unless you pay out 80% of your income. No money, & if you do have money then everything is still expensive for you. They are squeezing the life out of everyone.
Can’t see anyone being peaceful when some people are trying to mind their own business while some people are poking around in other peoples business maybe to make money off of them or watch them for fun or tell on them. Survival of the fittest & now days it’s throw anyone under the bus or do anything for money.
I got pulled over for having blue led lights and was told I can’t have blue bulbs that anyone can buy from Walmart because it’s impersonating as police but yet they can go uncover as a Lyft/Uber driver? I’d be concerned too.
A problem is fleeing/eluding/failure-to-pull over charges. None of those charges will stick in cases like these because it looks like it's someone pretending to be a cop.
You're wrong.
The courts would find you guilty.
It's a catch 22
I told a fake looking cop that I don't deal with fake cops, then told him to f off and just drove away once. Nothing came from it at all even though it might have been an actual cop, but in his personal car (his gf or wife was yelling at him from the passenger seat, which made me call him a fake cop. its a big no-no for cops to drive in their uniform in personal vehicles without express permission from the department and they are only allowed to go to the place where they are going, as they can only do this off duty.)

Having undercover pulling traffic stops is dangerous both for the driver and the cop. We've seen this before with tragic outcomes. What if the driver doesn't stop because they don't believe its a cop? Are the cops going to go full on copism? What if the driver thinks its not a cop but a hijacking and 2A the cop? Undercover should either not be used at all for traffic stops or in tandem with a real cop car to avoid either of these scenarios. Or just use undercover for real crimes or real suspects of real crime.
As a former LEO, I agree 100%. In this scenario, I wouldn't have stopped for a MARKED Lyft van with blue and red lights. My wife would definitely not either, as she is trained for this in another city we lived. We would have driven the speed limit, called 911, and advised that we would be glad to stop when there is a marked law enforcement vehicle. If they wished to add citations to the stop for being safe, my attorney will be glad to deal with that in court. This is just setting up people to be victims. If that officer was picking up "extra" duty, he should have swapped out with a marked vehicle to do traffic enforcement. Very, very, poor PR move on the OCSO.

I posted my comment for those to consider if this situation presents itself to someone. Stop by your local Law Enforcement facility and speak ask to speak with a TRAFFIC supervisor and find out how they operate in this type of situation. An open dialog is great prevention. Many jurisdictions do not require you to stop for an unmarked LEO vehicle, but it is important to immediately call 911 and communicate with the call taker/ dispatcher. Do not speed away, stay within the speed limit, and I'd recommend your hazard lights to let the a legit officer know that you recognize they are there. When a marked vehicle arrives, stop as soon as safe for you and the officer. Most LEOs will recognize this and have respect for your safety. This applies to a traffic stop, don't try it if you've actually been involved in some sort of "other" activity. Things could get bad. Even the Feds (DEA, ATF, etc) unmarked units will have a marked LEO nearby, or involved. Don't argue about the stop in the street, take it up with your lawyer, the prosector, and or the judge. @@stuwest3653 it's unsafe because if you are a lone female at night and the cop is making it seem like he is a lyft driver pretending to be a cop, you either wont pull over or you at least wont/shouldn't comply for fear he is a creep, but if he is real he can shoot you/arrest you for resisting or not complying. being pulled over is nerve wracking enough thinking you are dealing with a legit officer, but having to question if it's a creep or undercover cop makes it even worse. there have been serial rapists that have used that tactic to harm women (justin evens is one case)
@@rachaelgrande3097 A cop isn't going to shoot you for not pulling over. Put on your hazards, call 911 and drive to the nearest populated area and you will be fine. Just because criminals have used lyft or uber as a disguise does not have the same inherent danger as when a cop uses it. That is ridiculous.
The cop pretending to be a Lyft driver may stop the Lyft driver pretending to be a cop. Never know.
@@MikeRivNYif you think you need to become a criminal in order to fight crime, you belong in prison because you don't understand decency and morals. You're worse than a street thug because you pretend to be better.
Are the officers also in plain clothes? I think that they are putting officers in danger with tactics like that. Like that lady said, how can you tell if it's a real police officer or a police impersonator. A person could reasonably believe that they are dealing with a fake cop who is about to commit harmful or deadly criminal acts against them. If they are armed, they could possibly start shooting at real officers, believing they're doing so in an act of self-defense against an impostor.
But I can't drive a car around with police markings on them...
Absolutely unconstitutional. Period .
Onother future cop agency to stop crimes that may or may not happen you just told people how to be ended drive slow to a lit area shows yoall do knot no whats happening in the real world
This is why non criminals hate cops
you mean everyone
No different from an unmarked car
The law says undercover or unmarked police cars cannot do traffic stops but they do it anyway and judges done care, that defense attorney is confused between officers or undercover officers using the Lyft sign or other methods during an undercover operation but it’s not legal to do in general traffic stops…says so right in the rcw’s
Thieves have been lying and cheating to steal money as far as time goes back. You think these road pirates are gonna act any different.
You do know that Police and Thieves are best friends. One rob you of your riches, the other one rob you for the rich.
CRIMINALS…AT IT AGAIN
Call the cops
@@MikeRivNY so they can investigate themselves ? LMAO Sure !!
SHES MAD CAUSE SHE GOT CAUGHT!
She is not mad she was concerned by the type of vehicle he was driving. It is not a police car I am not pull over then my attorney will handle it he charges 500.00 an hour.
@@rickhammond2473 LIES, ITS CALLED UNDER COVERED! ASLONG AS THE CAR HAS THE LIGHTS, DISPACTH CAN CONFIRM ITS LAWFUL. ALL THE LAW BREAKERS ARE MAD CAUSE THEY DONT SEE THE COPS COMING 😂
@@blewis9270 Not with other lights on the dash the attorney would take care of it I got off in the past more than once before but you need money got it?
@@rickhammond2473 IF THATS TRUE GOOD FOR YOU, THE LAWYER SAYS ITS NOT ILLEGAL SO YOU CAN ONLY LIE TO IGNORANT PPL ITS CALLED UNDER COVER FOR A REASON!
I wonder what Lyft /uber legal team has to say about this 😅
If i saw the lyft logo i wouldn't of pulled over and guess way to many cops if they're pulling over people for going 9 over guess not enough serious crime
If you don't pull over, that's called felony eluding and you will have a felony on your record!!!
