On September 15, 2022, Miami-Dade Police officers located the white Honda Civic while traveling north on the Florida Turnpike in Miami-Dade County near Bird Road. The car had been reported stolen and it was flagged as a felony vehicle known to have been used in other property crimes.
The vehicle took off when MDPD officers attempted to pull it over, leading to the pursuit. Shortly after, Florida Highway Patrol became the primary agency in the pursuit as it approached State Road 836.

@@zacharyjones7948 It doesn't take that long when the cops are already sitting along the route the car was traveling. With constant radio communication and a multitude of police vehicles, they can steer the car into the spike strip locations. It certainly doesn't take as long as the chase took and would have been much better than what they did here. They have spike strips that you can lay out in advance and actuate them at any time you need to. These cops need better options than what they did in this case.

They asked and were denied 3 times, then given permission once but it became immediately unsafe so the FHP Officer didn't.
What we sometimes see as an opportunity to do the P.I.T. isn't actually a safe time. Cars close behind, not going to turn them and have them come off the barrier sitting sideways in front of civilians, homes or businesses the turned maggot could hit, open medians they could cross into oncoming traffic.
FHP does the P.I.T often, but have to request permission, unlike ASP Officers which seem to have fulltime permission at their discretion to do so.
They got the driving maggot, they'll get the others when he rolls on them or someone in their inter-circle rolls on them.

Supervisor was a chick. What did you expect? They make poor judgement calls in high stress situations.

    • @GeekOfAllness
      @GeekOfAllness Год назад +6

@@DroneStrike1776 The entire point of having someone at the station make these calls is because it's a lot lower stress when you're just listening to a radio. The guys in the field constantly make stupid decisions because they're in hunt mode and all they smell is blood, so those decisions get pushed up the chain to someone else who's not in the thick of it.
The call was pretty typical and had nothing to do with the sex of the person involved. Even if there was some good evidence to support the notion that girls can't make high-stress decisions as well as dudes, it wouldn't apply in this low-stress situation where it's pretty well preordained by regs. In retrospect, it would have been better to PIT early, but the supervisor didn't necessarily know how things were going to go down at that point.
I did see a couple other places where a PIT would probably have been safe enough, but the supervisor can't be sure in time to okay it in the moment, and the entire point of supervisor approval is that we don't always trust the guys in the chase to make that call in the fog of war.
The worst decision here is forcing a pursuit instead of getting a helicopter out to follow them at a more leisurely pace. But even that's hard to be too upset by, given the circumstances of the stop. And I have no idea what the status of their helicopter was.

“ *Superb driving by the troopers. *”
Sorry for this very long diarrhea post.
Agreed: There were very considerable *physical driving* skills displayed here . . . But there were, also, significant *errors in decision-making* by these officers: As you have insightfully pointed out, there were, clearly, opportunities-SAFE opportunities-to execute a PIT maneuver, but the officers came up short (There was at least 1 instance involving 2 different officers whose vehicles were physically close (and were not near other vehicles or heavy traffic) . . . And, actually, these police officers, themselves, then continued to put the public in as much danger as this crim driver did.
What I find completely ironic about this situation is that the very officers who thought that it was not safe to attempt a PIT maneuver continued to put the driving public at incredible danger-through their own irresponsible police-officer actions.
      NOTE:
      - In this chase, we have already seen at least 1 helicopter directly over one of the officers.
      - And even if, by the time that we see this helicopter, it was on its way to some already-identified event or emergency, by the time that we see it here, the chase had already been going on for way long enough to request another helicopter. It takes only 2-10 minutes for a helicopter to become airborne.
      - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
And, of course, although all of us here know what an incredible asshole this crim driver was and is, I must give credit where credit is due:
For as often as this pathetic crim driver found himself in traffic jams and situations that appeared to be almost impossible to extricate himself from, he really did drive quite “well.” Don’t hate me, but what I mean by “well” is that, for a substantial part of this chase, this crim really did not deliver significant damage to any other vehicle on the road, and there was only minor damage to his car-Yes, he did scrape a large number of vehicles, because he sometimes found himself wedged 3-abreast in a 2-lane-wide space, but no vehicle was incapacitated by his insane actions, and no other driver was physically injured. I am not talking about the emotional horror of what he inflicted on the driving public . . . I am talking only of his physical response to traffic conditions.
And although I think that he should serve at least 30 years in prison-so that he can sit and think of all the thousands of people that he put at risk for his lunacy-there is no doubt in my mind that there are very, very few other drivers who could have driven as “skillfully” as he did-in this particular very difficult situation.
      - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
In all of my 70 years on the planet, I have almost never seen a car-chase in any commercial film that approaches what is shown in this real-life account. The only film in which the car chase is truly exciting and seemingly realistic is “To Live And Die In LA.”
However, it is *not possible* to truly have a totally convincing car chase in a commercial film because such filmed chases are completely and totally choreographed-It can be no other way. . . . And, as we have seen in this chase-and in every real chase-life is not choreographed.
      - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
To me, there was really no legitimate reason for executing this chase by ground vehicles:
      - At one point, we can clearly see a helicopter directly overhead, and it is in the process of turning back to this particular chase.
      - However, we do not know whether or not it is even a law-enforcement helicopter. if this particular helicopter were a law-enforcement helicopter that was already requested to travel to some other event or emergency, by the time that we see the helicopter here, the chase had already been going on for plenty of time to enable law-enforcement authorities to call in another helicopter.
      - To me, the chase that would make the most sense would be this scenario:
      - 1 law-enforcement helicopter and whatever number of chasing law-enforcement ground vehicles have so far joined the festivities.
      - All chasing law-enforcement ground vehicles drop off in speed.
      - All chasing law-enforcement ground vehicles then completely drop off from the chase.
      - The pathetic crim-believing that there are now no longer any chasing law-enforcement *ground* vehicles behind him-then decreases his speed, fitting in perfectly with the existing-traffic flow.
      - The law-enforcement helicopter simply continues to follow this crim right up to near his front door-which is exactly what happened here-but without the horror and craziness that those very law-enforcement ground vehicles were bent on stirring up.
      - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
