Sometimes they get away. But I think when the chopper is chasing the police don't pursue as aggressively. Also, many times when trying to flee they get in accidents and lose mechanical ability to drive fast.

I watch the LA ones all the time and those people know how to relax a bit and go quiet when need be. This lady clearly has some anxiety because she felt compelled and pressured to keep talking. It's been literally ages since I've been in South Florida, back then when Miami-Dade Co. was just Dade Co. I'm impressed with the road improvements over the years to ease traffic in some cases, especially the highway that runs into I-75.

1. I do not condone what this guy did at all, but damn, he can drive? That is some serious skill. High speeds, yet he avoided accidents, and then came to a stop to surrender in an empty street. For some reason I feel like the dude himself didn't want anyone to get hurt.
2. See how the guy was apprehended? No excessive violence, no unnecessary aggression. This is how you arrest someone who surrenders, even if they are dangerous.

So many news hosts need to learn that when you cover a car chase, you don't need to talk every second and keep repeating that its so dangerous.
The police are doing an awesome job of keeping up with him.
This is what happens when police aren't allowed to PIT... I know it's dangerous for the cop and suspect, but it's a hell of a lot safer for the general public. At the very least they should have a few cars with tire catch devices mounted on the front.
Those things are AWESOME! I don't know how many departments have them, but I know Phoenix PD and the Arizona DPS has them. I watched a few police dashcam videos where they were used and I was very impressed. So much safer than a PIT or spike strips, especially at highway speeds.

This guy was perfectly alone on the freeways. But you will see everytime this guy drove on the wrong side of the road, off the highways, the cops tried to pit him then.
Seriously, cops don't think of other road users safety. They do what they want.
Another thing if they really was worried about civilian users of the road....they would have called of the chase, after this guy 1st dangerous move. But the cops let it go on on for almost an hour.
