I had an interview with a government agency a couple weeks ago. There were 3 interviewers and a total of 10 behavioral questions! No questions at all concerning job specifics, qualifications or experience! I gave it my best shot (from the hip) and fortunately got the job! Thanks for these great videos!
I hate these questions because my brain becomes scrambled eggs
Same
Same
Same here. I have 2 decades of work experience, and questions like these cause my mind to blank like I've never worked a day. The industries I've worked in don't fit with the language of what their asking. I can't believe I have to come up with a bunch of phony work stories and sit and bs someone so I can have a decent job. It's so disheartening.
@memyselfi2005 same. I just had one. I sound like a complete idiot but I know I can do the job. I know the job and I would do an outstanding job performing it but because of these bulkshit questions, I won't get the job. Very discouraging.
Passed the interviews and got the job in Architecture after studying your videos, Bill ! Thanks a million. Your channel is changing lives !
Congratulations, ScaredCrows! That's great to hear - way to go!!
What marks did you get. Did you get the diploma
I just got the job! Your videos helped me so much, particularly the behavioural question prep content. I may not have been prepared enough had I not watched this video and done my research on the company. Thank you:)
Congrats, Brad! That's great news!
you are the Goat. I was stumped in my first interview by a failure question. i did manage to answer it. I did pass for my second interview. I will definitely prepare as you recommend. Thank you so much
As someone who is re-entering the workforce, this video is incredibly helpful. Thank you so very much!
About to be made Redundant, not had an interview for a very very long time, am so enjoying your talks as I am feeling more confident, prepared and looking forward to the challenge now. Thank you
I lost a chance at a job because of these questions. I haven’t been unemployed in 25 years. I’ve never came across these. Completely stumped me. I couldn’t get my words out. Really wanted that job, not because it was great money, but I would have been happy every day doing it.
I know exactly how that feels. It seems like companies are looking for who can bs the best over who can actually do the job well.
Thank you so much, I'm retired and i now have a opportunity to work as a liason, I'm excited and grateful and you are now my mentor, love you brother Thank you so much.
I haven't worked I've been a stay-at-home mother for 22 years and now I have an opportunity in my community to work at the local casino today is my job interview and these videos have helped me quite a lot with organizing how to answer professional questions after such a gap in my work history. I definitely won't be bringing up anything about that in this interview.
Homemaking requires a great deal of transferrable skills. You know they will want patience…search your memory banks for when you needed to show it. They will want attention to detail..ponder when you needed that. Teamwork…etc.
Simply You are great, you have a unique ability in making all candidates for job to feel confident and mastered...make any difficult and fear go easy.
These videos have such great information.
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. You are a great role model. I’ve been devouring your videos! I’m in Australia on the hunt for a job, and feel more confident after taking on all your advice! Many thanks!
Thanks, Rachael!
There is something about the way you present your information that keeps me very interested and focused. But anyways, this is very good knowledge and advice. Thank you for sharing!
I agree! He is relatable and I’m able to grasp his concept. He cuts straight to the point and doesn’t give you long and drawn out responses to questions that you will not remember. I do not have a gift of gab. I need a simple and straight forward answer to give the recruiters/hiring managers, etc.
hes personable, no fluff, keeps it real, fights for us, as opposed to the recruiter/hiring manager and he's funny sometimes.
Thanks so much for your videos I’ve been using your advice and I made it to the third round interview with my dream job and company of a Human Resourced Coordinator!
Thank you! I have a graduate job video interview coming up and behavioural questions are not what I am looking forward to 😬
I'm studying for a promotion and this video was very helpful in preparing for my interview. Thank you!
These have been so helpful for interview prep, could you do one on how you are supposed to physically sit in a interview? Posture, crossed leg, straight leg, sit back in the chair, lean towards the interviewer.....ect
That’s easy you sit up straight and you don’t slouch
I left my most recent blue collar job due to safety concerns within the company, which the employer was extremely unhappy about. If a company I interview for is asking for references from prior jobs, how do I handle that if I feel a owner/supervisor will speak poorly of me out of spite?
Great question, and one I am sure many people can relate to.
It certainly depends on the industry, but buy and large I would suggest contacting clients who did business with your company and see if they remember you. If they do, there is a chance they would be willing to put in a few good words for you. Other than that, you can reach out to coworkers, family members, friends, faith leaders (if that is your thing) or really anyone you think had a good impression of you and would be willing to speak on your behalf.
Excellent. Going for a big VP job tomorrow and your videos have been helpful
Thanks for this video! Most of the videos out there on behavioral questions talk about specific questions, but this video gave an insight on how to prepare yourself for any question that might come your way. Appreciate the tips!
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks a lot. Great videos, full of experience and wisdom. Deeply appreciated when you said: "you guys are awesome", some time you forget to pet yourself.
Great tips!
Your videos are great and provide me with the needed insights. Could you do videos on how to answer these questions:
Tell me about a time you failed or made a mistake.
Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult person.
Tell me about a time you had to persuade someone.
i have a question here. i was once asked by an interviewer that "what makes you outstanding and shine?" my first thought was that she's asking about my strength, so i told her my strength. then she followed up like "are those making you unique? so you're saying your colleagues dont have those qualities?" i was totally stumped and felt like if i said yes, it looks like im bad mouthing my colleagues; if i said no, that it's not making me unique and outstanding... i made up something but i knew it's fuked up and i didnt get to the next round. i told my friends, they said they never had questions like this before and thought the question is stupid... how would you answer a question like that?
I've interviewed hundreds of candidates and typically I only ask follow up questions if the candidate "opened up a door" by giving an answer I either didn't like or really liked and wanted clarification on. Without knowing more about your answer or the position, it's possible you said something that sounded negative to them and they wanted to give you a bit more rope to hang yourself with. Or, the job itself may require quick thinking or be stressful so the interviewer wanted to see how you'd handle that situation. Or they were just being a jerk. It could be a million things unrelated to your performance. The job-seeking process is like speed dating and ten times more humiliating, but it helps to not take anything personally. You could be the greatest candidate in the world, but you got passed over because the boss had to hire HER boss's niece. Perseverance guarantees success. Count on it!
"what makes me shine? Well, nothing since I'm not a source of light."
Great video. Thank you.
I appreciate your videos, I was affected by Covid and for a layoff in 2020 and haven’t had a good job since, but I have an interview on Monday for the emergency room patient registration associate position….. I am studying diligently! I am right for this job, but I want to make sure I am right for the interview
Any update?
Hey, i really like your videos, always helpful to train to be prepared.
I've been seen a particular question about "Notice Period".
i've tried to read about it but i think would be good if you can talk about it
Greetings
This is a life saver..!!
I really enjoy your videos and am going to put your suggestions to use at the first opportunity.
I was an academic contract worker. All projects had to be completed on time - no exceptions. Perhaps because most scientific projects lasted beteen one and four years, there were annual progress reports. It was understood that these jobs were not 40 hours per week. Considerable overtime was required and the number of hours worked almost always increased towards the deadline to ensure that the project was completed BEFORE the deadline and submission of the final report and all data.
Thanks!
This was helpful. ❤
Very helpful!
Behaviorial and situational test SUCKS. I dont understand y some company do these type of thing. It's an hour of ur time spent doing these questions and at the end of the day you dont even go through the 1st stage. Can someone please explain to me y these r necessary?
@Tafari I the best predictors of future behavior is passed behavior
@Tafari I I mean.... I've seen it myself over periods of 20-30 years.... 48 with my parents.
I've also seen a few of the far between people that actually changed their lives. But they're not the "norm"
New to this channel.Retired HR guy. The 10 stories approach is great advice. I would be interested in knowing your 20 most difficult questions.
This is some good shit.
Thank you so much sir .
Not me a 22 year old with no experience trying answer these questions 😂✌️😗✨
Thank you.
Thank you Boss
The handy dandy list is golden…thanks!
In another video you wrestle with the question about whether to disclose that you are interviewing with another company. As an honest person, I can comfortably say: “No I am not currently exploring positions with other companies, nor am I interviewing elsewhere” then jokingly “ I can’t speak about the future, but I hope it’s not necessary after today”. Smile.
I am not currently doing those things because I am currently in the room with them, interviewing. Let them interpret your words as they wish.
Thanks!
Can you help with this question? I'm in marketing and trying to build my case or show my skills during the interview. I'm always told I don't get specific enough sharing how I might have solved a problem in my past roles. I'm trying to bridge the gap between being specific and over simplifying what I do. What is the best way to approach this? Thanks!
Chris went through the same thing I did.
Hello ty for the great info
nice video, do you know from when HR uses the behavioral questions? after everyone out there knows about how to handle them, what do you think they will come with in the near future?
To be blindsided means to be caught unprepared. He used it correctly. And no, I would NOT correct my interviewer. Your videos are great.
Its impossible to be prepared for every situation.
u r amazing buddy!
Hi Sir
Background music is if its low very helpful
Hahahahaha I would’ve been distraught lolololol! It happens a lot whew
Hi, How do you answer to such questions of a time when u missed a deadline, or handled conflict? I am an extremely responsible individual and never missed a deadline nor had any crazy conflicts in my past positions, please advise how do i answer without sounding pompous.
Im the same; i can’t recall a time where I’ve missed a deadline. Id say that and add that “I’m sure I’ve missed a deadline before, which is probably why i always seek to fully understand the task at hand to set realistic and achievable deadlines, with a built in contingency; ‘under commit’ and ‘over deliver’. If i were to miss a deadline i would be sure to know in advanced, i would communicate this to those impacted as early as possible, and support them to mitigate the impact of missing the deadline, setting a new expectation that i know can be achieved” - i have a big interview coming up in few weeks. Good luck on yours!
also:
I think that conflict could also mean resistance, to change, ideas, decisions, improvements, requests for info or to perform tasks etc. If you work with people, you have experienced conflict - anything were human emotion or frustration has been expressed.
Also consider that the examples you give do not necessarily need to be work related, if you’re really stuck.
You rock 🤗You also the best
Very helpful thank you!
I had a HR recruiter ask "What did 2020 teach you?"
It taught me that I am fully able to perform my job from home for over a year with just a laptop.
Once you ponder an answer, you won’t forget it. It’s the surprise that makes it hard.
Hi sir I been following your tips and I’m a newbie on LinkedIn and i can’t seem to find the hr manager email I can only find the employees in that company should I connect with them ?? But I’m unsure what to say
