  • United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain said on Wednesday that the union is preparing to strike against the Detroit Three automakers, a day before four-year labour deals are set to expire.
Fain said the Detroit Three automakers had offered pay raises of as high as 20 per cent over four and a half years, but called the hikes inadequate. Coordinated strikes would mark the first-ever simultaneous labour stoppage at all three Detroit automakers and one of the largest U.S. industrial labor actions in recent years.
"We're making progress, but we're still very far apart on our key priorities," Fain said in a Facebook Live address, outlining a strategy to "create confusion" for the Detroit Three automakers with a series of strikes targeting individual U.S. plants if no deal is reached.
Ford Motor has proposed a 20 per cent hike in pay, General Motors 18 per cent, and Chrysler-parent Stellantis 17.5 per cent, according to Fain. That is less than half of the 40 per cent pay hikes the union has sought, including an immediate 20 per cent hike on ratification of a contract and 5 per cent annual hikes.

So happy that I don't have a union enslaving, me and taking dues out of my paycheck regardless of whether I approve of it or not. I have lived in Detroit my whole life and I see the unions as a corrupted bargaining monopoly.

Just so you know...the Unions and the things they fight for also help the non-unionized. Things like the 40 hr work week and stat pay, health and safety... all those things happened because of unions fighting for worker's rights. So while you may not be "enslaved" by the other rules under a collective agreement, don't think you don't get benefits. Else you'd likely be making less than minimum wage...or maybe they'll just outsource the job elsewhere.

My mother belongs to a union which paid for big part of her knee replacement surgery and my father's prostate cancer treatment. Her union dues were only $100 a month well worth it in the long run

I will work for Ford, GM while these greedy people strike.
Is it time for companies to end unions, I know that there are thousands of people without jobs, they all would take lower wages than your current union workers.
Look into the heads of the unions,
Look into the 50 to 70 dollars that all union members pay and what they fund?
Look into the economic shock this causes and how all price spirals have been cause by greed such as this.
Get to work or there are people that want your jobs and will settle for less because they are currently making nothing and out of work

US auto workers make approximately $67.00 an hour or over $500 daily/$2500+ weekly and need 20% more they say! That would finish the American car industry off permanently.
We use to have an auto industry in Australia, the unions wrecked it. Labor input costs were 35% more than competing Asian manufacturing plants.
Higher prices mean more imported cars will replace American sales. Unions will shed jobs as they scale down so it is self-defeating for unions.
Unions are financially innumerate being socialist as they all are.
Socialists want to force America to its knees.
