    Henry Ford gave his associates a decent wage, for many reasons but the one that stands out for me is that he wanted them to be able to afford a car that they had built. When I started in the auto industry in 1997 I bought a brand-new car for $15,000 and a house for $130,000. I was making $18.50/hr. Today, that same car is $28,000 and that same house is $600,000 and the associates being hired right now are making $18.50/hr. This is so so wrong. These people are being paid what I was being paid 25 years ago.

    Weird how cutting executive pay is never an option in the United States, though cutting the pay of workers or cutting the workers themselves - let's not forget they're the people who actually do the work - is always on the table.

    • @matthewingerson
      @matthewingerson Год назад +4

      I agree with your sentiment. But it's NOT weird. Cutting the pay of wealthy-addicts is NEVER an option under the pro-wealthy & anti-worker economic systems inherent to right-wing politics. It has been the playbook of wealthy right-wingers since the invention of currency.
      In the past, slavery, feudalism, and monarchy were the names for the pro-wealthy and anti-worker economic systems under right-wing politics. And today, capitalism is simply the modern name for the pro-wealthy and anti-worker economic system under right-wing politics.
      And, with a new name for the pro-wealthy and anti-worker economic system, the wealthy right-wing addicts also came up with new descriptors to disguise the feudalist-slavery-monarchal nature of capitalism.
      (A)Slaves from the past are called prisoners or illegal-aliens in the present.
      (B)Serfs from the past are called employees in the present.
      (C)Masters, lords, and kings from the past are called supervisors, managers, employers, entrepreneurs, CEOs, investors, and financiers in the present.
      (D)Slave patrollers from the past are called police patrollers in the present.
      (E)Knights from the past are called soldiers in the present.
      There are numerous examples of how the wealthy right-wing addicts have manipulated language for their benefit over time, using propaganda and hyperbole. And just as the wealthy right-wingers have changed their language, so, too, should the working-class.
      Again, I agree with your sentiments. But I disagree with the hyperbolic way in which the wealthy-vs-worker dichotomy is discussed.
      The working-class needs to be much more direct and sincere in our language -- enough of this under-handed, behind-the-back, or watered-down kind of talk.
      The wealthy right-wing addicts will NEVER give up their addictions willingly. And it's time for workers to stop pretending they will.
      It's time for the working-class to stop talking and acting like this socioeconomic hierarchy is something new -- this wealthy, right-wing, hierarchical bullsh!te has been going on for millennia.
      It's time for workers to stop communicating in hyperbole, like, "it's weird how..." or "it's funny that..."
      The minority-rule by the wealthy-class, under which the working-class majority struggles, IS NOT weird -- it is by design.
      The socioeconomic subjugation of workers by the wealthy right-wing addicts IS NOT weird -- it is purposeful.
      It is NOT weird -- it's normal.
      And it will continue to be the norm until working-class people take it more seriously and speak about it more directly.
      Because, not only will the wealthy right-wing addicts never, EVER, willingly give up their addictions, but they'll also promote, encourage, and facilitate the sabotage, murder, and genocide of communities, individuals, and entire nations of people.
      The wealthy right-wingers have been doing these things for time immemorial.
      It is not even *slightly* weird -- it's f*kcing normal. And it's time that working-class people recognize and remember it.
      The wealthy right-wingers aren't going to change their tactics or their desired outcome. But working-class people certainly need to change our tactics.
      Again, I agree with your sentiment but completely disagree with your style.
      And I find it absurd that your comment is at the top of the comments-section when there are so many other, better comments that should be at the top.
      My words aren't meant to discourage anyone -- I don't take my words lightly -- my words are meant to encourage us to do better.
      Sorry -- not sorry -- if anyone is offended by these words.

    • @Gregorypeckory
      @Gregorypeckory Год назад

      True, but the real culprits are the morbidly rich major shareholders. CEOs are not the top tier of the class that is robbing us all and sacrificing our biosphere and the life of every child on Earth for their own profits. They're just the foot soldiers. The generals issuing the commands are the oligarchs, not the CEOs that work for them; high paid jobs are nothing compared to the class that has families holding more wealth than entire countries.
      That's the real problem. Elon Musk just got a lot of Ukrainians killed by using his wealth to commit treason and sabotage the Ukrainian war effort; apparently it's the third or fourth time he's done something like that. Who knows how many of them are psychopathic monsters like Jeff Epstein and use their morbid wealth to get away with it. He would still be doing it had he not gotten careless.
      They make themselves above the law, accountable to nobody; that's a level of wealth far beyond a high paid CEO, and it absolutely is a recipe for a series of catastrophes. Lo and behold, "a series of catastrophes" is a pretty good description of what is happening to our world right now.

      The money is not going to executives, although they are overpaid. The real money is going to pay dividends on the stock. Stock holders (of which many are executives in the very company) are the ones making the money here. GM CEO makes 29 Million per year. That is a LOT of money but compared to all of GM's spending, its tiny. Not saying he deserves it or the difference between the line worker and him is worth it but its not the sole, main or large reason for this issue.

    I started in 1997 at a major auto plant making $18.50/hr, 15 days holidays which grow to 30 days annually, 3 sick paid days, defined pension, dental, drug, the list goes on. When I retired 25 years later my wage (not including all benefits) was $34.00/hr. I trained and worked alongside associates doing the same job in 2023 who were hired as "contracts" at $18.50/hr, with little to no health benefits, no defined pension, and the list goes. As a single mom, I was able to buy a house, and a new car and help with my boys' education. I was able to retire at 60 years old with a great pension. These contract associates will max out at $28/hr over ten years. Yeah, ten years. No pension. I can't image where these people will be in their senior years. They can't even move out of their parents' homes. Good for the strikers.

      That and give the effin shareholders a little less. Reinvest in your own company and manufacturing facilities. Value your workers and invest a little in your local community like create a mini scholarship or build a little park or something. Sponsor a fishing derby for kids. American biz used to do these things now just greedy globalist vultures eviscerating workers and communities. Demanding tax Abatements, threatening to leave for Mexico or China. Demanding stagnant wages and worker give backs. Tired of made in China, India and Mexico dumping on our shores without any tarriffs imposed. The war on workers and middle class is about to change. 🙏

I never missed a day's work. I got a raise every 52 weeks worked. After 5 years I quit. Obamacare forced them to give me a bare bones health insurance package.
