Thank you for your comparison. I often watch videos where PA systems are being tested and i really appreciated yours, because to me it seems you're not trying to sell me one, but instead were just comparing for yourself. I really hate those promo videos , that just stand in the way when you're looking for real tests - so again: Thank you very much! I hope you are still happy with the choice you have made.
Quality and helpful review. Anderson’s sure got great exposure with this too. Now that’s a quality rep 👌 ... no pushy anything just pure knowledge and allowed you and the kit to decide who should go home with you.
I have a Bose L 1 compact it’s just stunning I play looped guitar with a midi linked drum machine , beat buddy , and have added a EV bass unit ,sorted and easy to move and set up
A crossover I've always wanted- Anton Browne and Andertons, the king of the voice on RUclips and the no. 1 music retailer in the world. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Anton. I have the Maui 11's and 5's. But they require bedding in for blooming to disappear and control with bass knob. As for the Maui 5, it has the bass control knob and high end boost control knob too. I've managed to have a balanced sound at high and low volumes with settings on the LD set and with some control of bass output from source. Playing organ, pipe organ and orchestral sounds. Maui 11 'permanent' location and the 5 for mobile locations.
I lucked out and found an LD Maui 5 on CL like new, the owner has 3 of them for 425.00 I use it for my GR-55. It sounds 100 xs better than running it through an all tube guitar amp. I have heard other "Line array systems" Bose is great. The more you spend, the better the sound. I think the best application for these systems is synth stuff as well as Vocal enhanced with products like the TC Hellcion Extreme Live Play 3. Naturally if you are in a position to play through a pro P.A. system, anyone with a brain is going to go direct-That way you are hooked up to the monitor system. I think the cheapest $ wise is the Maui for 600-used if possible. Some of these things are terrible. Make sure there is a reasonable return policy if you are not sure.
Thanks for this, I went to Guitar center and checked out the S1 Bose and sounded nice but didn't have any guts. Too bad they didn't have the L1 to test.
I recall walking down this same road, from the station in Guildford a few months ago, and sometime soon, guess its about time I checked out this Anderton's to see some of what they have. Excellent review/comparison. I've always known from their sound demos I have heard in person and on Utube, the LD's are a bit of a miss..... Looks like you were just a bit early cos Yamaha now has a competitive product - the Yamaha STAGEPAS 1K for about £1000 MSRP - not sure what the street price will be cos it will only be available in September 2019. I'd definitely like to compare the Yamaha to the Bose. It's Yamaha's 1st entry into this product category, coming in many years after everyone else - such as JBL, have copied Bose....As you have indicated, there must be demand for these kinds of products, especially as one does not need to bring any stands to mount them.
Good review but in all fairness to the systems & microphones they are all designed for a high impedance input such as a wireless mic. Try these with a small mixer wither sweepable mids & the difference is night & day
Hi Johnny, you might be right but add a small mixer (many small mixers don't have sweepable mids, 'cause they're small, so your looking at a larger mixer) an extra mains cable and patch cable and the idea of compact starts to fade a little.
@@AntonBrowne That's ridiculous, in the last 2 years just about every manufacturer has had to comply with public demand. Demand why, because as a sound engineer, people like me tell musicians the truth about sound & because I'm also a passionate musician who wants to hear every body not only sound their best but have the knowledge to approach a desk & get it, so I tell everybody how important basic tools & how to use them are. One example : Allen & Heath's new Zed Fx small mixers ( 340mm-250mm) are affordable, superb preamps, silent. great fx, A recording interface, low cuts & Sweepable parametric EQ on midrange. This is now the new standard of small mixer. If I could spend 3 minutes with any singer to show them the importance of what a good preamp & sweepable mid eq's does to their sound not one would choose to save $150- $200 on a cheap mixer. Your better off to save the extra cost involved from everybody telling you to buy a SM58 , buy a lesser known brand with the same specs & put the rest towards a desk. Finally as regard to these systems when using a mixer you pretty much double your head room by not overloading their gain structure, in basic terms that is twice the useable volume before starting to clip or feedback.
You tailored your reviews well, good to follow, Thanks, I’m interested with L1 Pro8, but do you think it’s a waste of money if my house is small, like 2.5x3.0 meters living room space? I will just use it to sing with acoustic and do some karaoke for chill time.
What's the verdict a few months later? I'm looking for a small, light, one-box solution for acoustic guitar/vocal gigs and would appreciate comments from people with experience.
I'm happy with the Bose, and I've used it a lot. It's very well designed and a very good compromise of portability, reasonable volume, bandwidth and clarity but it is expensive. The sound is a bit hyped but it's musical and enjoyable and it looks great, in my opinion. I think they were right to leave reverb and phantom power out - you have to draw the line somewhere. I use the TC Helicon Perform V (effects and phantom) for the vocal channel and it handles keyboard with split bass well for smaller gigs. All the best, Anton
@@frazzzz1066 Thanks Daz, can you post a comprehensive review, covering its features, including portability, frequency response, how well it performs with a guitar and mic, etc.? Just saying a product is 'better' without any supporting information doesn't really help. I thought Anton's original video was good, because he compared the systems as objectively as possible, but also recognised that factors other than sound quality (e.g. portability) matter to some musicians, whereas other people might not be concerned about these aspects.
No phantom and no reverb, but I guess you have to draw a line somewhere. The TC Helicon Perform V is a great little mic pre unit that provides both (and more) and I use that - more to carry and plug in, of course.
I don't agree with you. It was very practical and very real - but please bear in mind it is specific to what I required. I took the trouble to travel there and, I had hard earned money in my pocket which I didn't want to waste - that's a good incentive for making a good decision. I think it clearly shows the sonic differences between the options but remember to bear in mind my requirements, please.
@@AntonBrowne I had the LD Maui 5 , but it didn't match my Bose Compact . I put keys & mixer with loops (pre -looped from keyboards ) & have filled small venues . on big stages I use the Bose as my own monitor & then take a line into house PA .
You are definitely in the minority, I’ve watched every English speaking demo of the Bose there is. I agree with Anton, he did what most people don’t have the courage or knowledge to do that in a shop. Great insight and convinced me to buy the L1 pro 8. Thank you Anton ! 👏

Great review! Big kudos to Andertons, very helpful and also running you to the station was beyond great service!
Yes it was!

What a lovely bunch of folks they are at Andertons! Great video sir 👍

Adding a bass unit sort of defeats the object of this type of PA?
hi sir, can you show me how you hook the cable to add sub?

Your voice is the spit copy of David Gilmour. Incredible!
So people have said, I don't think I've ever heard him speak!
What a great reviewer!! You should do this for a living 👏👏
Many thanks.

Thanks for the info. I like Mauis, and their value for money but they were a bit too large for my purposes at the time.

S1 Pro.. maybe a tiny sub would relieve the S1 Pro of going beyond its ability. Nice comparison.
It might, but that negates the simplicity and compactness somewhat!
This bad boy is not great for straight up music . But for mic singing or musical instruments it definitely excels

For an electronic piano Jbl compact or Maui 5 ?

100% correct! Amazing sound from a wireless microphone.
Great demo

I think the L1 Pro8 will be too much in such a space, I would go for the L1 Compact.
I have to ask because it was not mentioned. The setting on the Bose S1 pro was it on the mic position (Guitar, Mic and Off on the 3 switch selector)?
Sorry, I can't remember, but the guy who set it up, knew what he was doing, so it would have been the best setting for vocal mic.
So which one you ayes for? Just touring the Andertone?...How about Maui 5?. C
The Maui is good but I went for the Bose because public transport portability is key.
can the battery be used with be basic maui 5 ? thanks
I don't think battery power is an option.
Can I ask. Can I get the title of song or artist. Thanks. Perfect for the s1
Bottom of description.
