Thanks for the comparison. I have been performing with the Bose S1 for 2 years 5 nights a week and It's been a workhorse... no problems whatsoever except the Bluetooth disconnecting every once in a while. The challenge with the Bose S1 is no eq for the Bluetooth or aux input. I'll be switching to the EON ONE Compact next year. So many more features and with the extra channel and eq for Bluetooth make it a no brainer.

I got used to the Bose sound quickly and appreciated how easy the setup is. It puts out a lot of sound for such a small speaker. Since I don’t have the jbl eon Compact just the eon one mark 2 I can’t tell you how it compares. However if the Jbl eon compact was available when I bought the Bose s1 I would have bought the jbl Compact. For live instruments the S1 wins that battle yes the s1 looks great but for mobile events you will regret getting it when that bass drop now if u only using it for ceremonies then the s1 is way to go. Michael Pincavitch strange!😳...,,I just seen a RUclips review that said the Bose was louder than the jbl!........man, I need something to Buss on the street so, what would you recommend for sax / backing tracks with occasional singing jazz standards??
I had the S1 for 2 years now and love it ,defo getting another for stereo ,I will say this they do need to be played a little loud to get the best from them
I own both. Also, had the L1 compact, and currently have the JBL eon one pro, plus two JBLs eon 610. Bose is great, always. So is JBL. There's a matter of taste. But as far as feature and flexibility goes, the JBL is the winner. It's louder, the battery lasted 2 to 3 hours longer than the Bose, and the "third channel" being split between bluetooth or 1/8 inch sucks. Everytime I plug the 1/8 inch, the bluetooth disconnects automatically. So I had to perform that every break, to put background music on. With the JBL, not only you get 3 real input mixer, the 4th channel accepts bluetooth AND 1/8 inch (I don't need it, because I run my voice, guitar, backing track on three channels, and use the 4th one for background/break music. I need to do that switch on the bose) - the app is really good, and being able to have an 8 band eq on the output of it is perfect. Also, the Bose doesn't have a main volume - and that's not a good thing to miss. The JBL is a definite winner here.
Canned music playback is zero indication of how these sound with vocals and acoustic guitars. To me the S1 sounds much better without eq. The JBL requires a lot of eq to make it sound good with guitar and vocals, but it never sounds quite as good as the S1. I find it a bit difficult to Manipulate the eq on a phone app. The volume differences are minor at clipping. The JBL is a good bit larger, but still small. I’m gigging it tonight, so I’ll give it a real test combined with a bigger speaker.
@@Luchodela I posted a year ago, but almost used both on a big outdoor gig last weekend and ended up going all Bose. L1M2 to an L1 Compact to the S1. The S1 performed great. This week I loaned both to a friend looking for a battery operated pa. He tried both and said the Bose S1 hands down, no question, no brainer. I agree with him that the Bose just sounds so much better.
The Bose sounds better to me in every comparison I've heard before, but in this one it sounds too "scooped" for my liking. As someone who busks with a low range instrument, I think the EON might work better.
I have the S1 and gig (acoustic, vocals and backing tracks) every weekend. I rarely use my larger powered mixer and 15”JBL speakers as this little thing is just incredible. The volume it punches out is remarkable. It weighs as much as a Happy meal. The best part though is the sound it lends to my guitar. I hate eq for acoustic guitar. People rarely get it right (mid range usually) and 99% of acoustic performers sound like shit. But this is BOSE. That’s why I wanted it. It is just PERFECT. and the vocals are crisp and clean also. For a New Years gig (bigger event) because I wanted a bigger sound with more bass than the S1 could likely produce at a high volume, I just ran everything into the S1 as normal and then ran this into a channel on my powered mixer and into a single fat (bridged) JBL and mixed accordingly. The S1 became almost like a fold back but provided the crisp clarity that was otherwise missing from my larger setup. For the record, I live the JBL eon features (jealous of the USB charger and the lights on the display would be handy as it can be a bit awkward on the S1 to get your eyes down to see things on the control panel. But I’m nearly certain that the actual sound quality for musicians/singers would not measure up with the S1.
Can the JBL be EQ’d to closely match the Bose? Nobody covers this. The JBL is much more versatile. Looks like you can do a lot to dial it in. I haven’t pulled the trigger. I’m really torn between them.
is the S1 Pro loud enough for a small pub gig would you say? im not expecting a full rocking Saturday night but im looking for more volume than would be needed at a coffee shop if that makes sense

Fast forward 3 years; it is Jan 2023. Two months ago I traded in my S1Pro for an Electro-Voice Everse8. All I can say is WOW! It truly is a next-generation battery powered PA speaker! So much better Mic preamps, and excellent clarity. But the EQ is very sophisticated and there is a bit of a learning curve. Goodbye, S1Pro! Time to wake up, Bose, and not sit on your electronic behind! :)
Hello there , Thank you for the review .. the feature of lower volume while speaking ?!!! Can that be on and off ? I’m an instructor and I don’t like that feature. Could you pls let me know .
I see this is an older video now, nice work tho, just to add there’s also the Yorkville exm mobile8 I rented one for the weekend on a private house party gig, played with it at home, i was quite impressed, light and great sound
My unqualified reply would be the JBL, because the Bose has no line level inputs other than aux, so you get no effects unless your mixer has them. This kills the Bose for me. I need four inputs (three with phantom) and would run a 1002B mixer from Behringer (also battery powered) into the line inputs on the JBL (which are true line/mic/instrument combos, as far as I can tell).
Thinking of one of these to bolster the volume on my L1 compact at bigger live solo gigs (acoustic, vocals) but I don’t think it’ll put out more volume than the L1 compact so is probably useless.
Which is best fir someone who wants to use it instead of an acoustic guitar amp for guitar and vocals, mainly at home, with ability to run keyboard or plug in bass at other times, and use Bluetooth features to play along with music? (And then occasionally use for busking somewhere once our Covid dictatorship ends, or use as an open mic monitor/amp.) I like small size of Bose but know I’ll sacrifice stereo if I want to use fir a keyboard amp. I heard JBL EONs break down more rom a repair guy.
I find them both very expensive for what they do? Is it the portability abs battery power that makes it so. A small PA set up that is battery powered with multiple inputs seems like a no brainer. Why choose these over other PAs, and has the hurt cone back regarding the tower L1 units versus typical dual speaker PAs!
Am I right in saying that the JBL has two mic/instrument AND LINE level combos at 1 and 2 while the Bose only has two mic/instrument level combos? Plus the freq. response is apparently way wider on the JBL. Apparently, because JBL says 37.5 to 20 Hz while Bose doesn't bother to even say what it is, but I've seen 62 Hz to 17 KHz quoted.
Yes, I think it sounds great. I use it sometimes as my bluetooth speaker with my phone and take it outside for music when working in the yard or washing car, it is great for all that.
I bought the bose s1 pro. Although jbl has more functions and the bass sound is much better - i noticed that when i stand aside from the jbl speaker - the sound is not as good as when i stand in front of the speaker . This doesn't happen with the bose s1 pro. That's the main reason i prefered the bose s1 pro.
Thanks for the reply🤝 I will check that out , I am looking for one for home visit worship and prayer with members and friends to do as like one band man style, we do it just with Yamaha PSR S950 also budget is one issue but main concern about sound base highs music vocal clarity our friends are very much love in music with prayer , which one will be better to choose thats a question in my head let see🤔
The jbl is not very good. Lots of digital things which give you lots of issues. I had two and both had problems charging and using any eq or digital effects. I took them both back. I thought maybe the first was a malfuntion. When the second did the same, i then returned it. I bought a bose s1 pro next and never been happier. Sounds great and is simple to use.

Mobile Dj using compacts for ceremonies & remote sound. Been running a pair of S1 Pros for 2 years. Solid, reliable, long battery life, light and super-clean sound. Just like wattage, do not be fooled by SPL. Clarity & distribution are the true test. Note: S1s change the dynamics when they are positioned from wedge, monitor or straight-on loudspeaker. Hands-down far superior to the JBLs. (Ran JBL Eons for years & still have them. 1st generation & 515s) Swapped out main PA to pair of Bose L1 model 2 portable line arrays with extra B2 subs and amps 5 years ago. Never hit over 25% volume even @ home...they are perhaps a bit much, but we never worry about crowd coverage even @ large outdoor events.
I was anxious to get one and ordered the JBL as soon as it was in stock. Big mistake! It has been really unreliable. First time use was at home with not a single problem. Second use outdoors in mid 60’s weather and the thing would not stay on! I hate the power button. You have to hold it for about six seconds and then the green lights come on. Well after 20 seconds it would shut off on its own. I thought I was going crazy and it was fully charged prior to the event. Anyways after troubleshooting for 10 minutes it finally worked. Also the Bluetooth showed my device was connected but no sound at all. I had to delete it from my device and then reconnect it. Third time use was in low 50’s weather. Did sound check prior to ceremony and it worked fine. An hour later powered it back up and did the ceremony (30 minutes) went without any problems. Took the speaker and set it up in another area for cocktail hour and battery status bar was about 80%. Started the music playlist and left for about ten minutes. Came back to check and there was no music playing. Checked iPad and it stopped on the second song. Powered the unit on and would not power on. Frustrating to say the least with not even a full 2 hours of use. Had to use a backup Behringer my assistant brought just in case. Later my assistant checked the speaker and he said the LED (not sure which one) was red and the speaker would not turn on. He periodically checked it and after being inside the reception area it finally powered on after being in the room for about 2 hours. This thing is going back ASAP. Didn’t spend nearly $500 on a speaker that works when it wants too. Hopefully JBL is looking into issues with this as I have read on other reviews.
DJ J Tech I noticed the power on button had a delay before it turned on.I also noticed he had to hit it twice because it didn’t fire up on the first try.I really like it.Hope they take care of your issues.
David Eidelberg no unfortunately I did not do the firmware update which I heard about but after talking to my rep I said I did not feel comfortable moving on with the JBL. I’ve seen friends having to return the same speakers over and over again from the same brand. I suppose I could have given it a shot but I went ahead with the more expensive Bose. I did not like that power button, you couldn’t tell whether it was coming on or not. I prefer a standard power switch that toggles not pushes on and hopes it comes on.
oh, I forgot one thing: the SNAPSHOTS! Those are a life saver. I play several places regularly. I spent a little more time setting up on each, and once I got the sound the way I wanted, I saved it with the venue name. Now, all I have to do is load it, and I'm ready, soundchecked everytime. It's amazin.
@@xguitarguyx77 I sold the Eon Compact for a profit (that's what I do, actually - because I need to travel often, I get gear for US price and sell for a little more in my country, and it's usually WAY less than the stores, so we're both happy) - anyway, I wasn't planning on, but somebody made an offer I couldn't refuse. So, right now, I only use the Pro, all the time. I'm selling it also, because I bought a new one and I'm flying there the next week or so. But really love it.
With the amount of features the JBL offers it makes it DIFFICULT to choose the Bose with the supposed better sound. I loop, sing and play acoustic. My question is could you EQ the jbl to closely match the bose? If so, it’s a no brainer. If you have a good ear and can eq it you get so many more features on the jbl and more bass (if you want it).
@@michaeltedham As mentioned previously, the EON ONE Compact has the ability to power AKG's DMS 100 & 300 wireless mic systems receivers via these ports. Its because the AKG Wireless systems are made by the same company that makes JBL
If it is so expensive abs allegedly a PA, why only three inputs? Are people using mixers for more? If I want to use stereo keyboard, vocals, guitar, bass, etc, it seems like 600 bucks fir basically a two plus one channel battery powered speaker. I think thus area should be disrupted by a more reasonable price point.
Much better sound from JBL (as expected) as noisegate confirmed with this test and don't forget the Features, SPL, Connectivity, and so on. JBL just a Better product with a better sound. I expected these results based on Both Companies' approach to Sound. JBL much more engaged in the Sound and Bose much more engaged in the Style/Marketing. Nice, complete review by the way.
kuti 77 both are decent... honestly you need s lot of tweaking with the bose. Mine sounds best when i decrease a lot of 5k increase some 1k and give a hight cut since the woofer limits super fast
BOSE, so here is a brand that I adored, I still have my two pairs of 802 and at home my Acoustimas system, what happiness. It was expensive, but what solidity and 100% made in the USA. Today it is still so expensive and manufactured who knows where in China. On the other hand, JBL has its own facturory in China, that is all the difference. But the JBL made in china I do not want a question of social principle either. That said, JBL is very well made, the amplifier is CROWN, in short a very nice construction much better than BOSE. And with JBL power handling is guaranteed for long hours. What a waste to relocate to the Chinese and subcontract, shame on BOSE.
JBL clearly and not only quality and details of sound, better battery, better design, better connectivity, phantom, more power...you name it. Bose sounded bloated and way too artificial to be honest. Nice review.
JBL is cheaper and more features, but the bose is lighter and smaller and I've seen it prove to be LOUD. I will be carrying the speaker around so weight will probably effect my purchase decision the most Fudge decisions.

Hello there ,
Thank you for the review .. the feature of lower volume while speaking ?!!! Can that be on and off ? I’m an instructor and I don’t like that feature.
Could you pls let me know .
It can be turned off.
one question. does jbl pair with another one has true stereo ?
or just 2 monos...
Which one i shoud buy for live singing s1 ya jbl ?
I see this is an older video now, nice work tho, just to add there’s also the Yorkville exm mobile8 I rented one for the weekend on a private house party gig, played with it at home, i was quite impressed, light and great sound
What if I wanted to connect a mixer, which one would be preferable?
Soundcraft do a great range of mixers: www.soundcraft.com/en/product_families/soundcraft-mixers
@@Noisegate I meant between the speakers but that anyways for the recommendations
You neglected to mention the line array with the Bose.
Jeff Daniel jbl eon one compact is better and it offer more applications compare to bose s1 pro. practice and enjoy!
The Bose sound quality is far superior than JBL
And the fact that when you turn it on its side or aim it upwards, it automatically changes EQ settings.
🎉🎉🎉ooooohh you are cool maaaann, great stuff, you are very professional, i like that . Thank you for info, and details. Bless you.
Question: Can you connect the bose speaker to the JBL speaker?
There is no reason why not, but check with Bose to confirm
@@Noisegate Ok thanks
Check out the Roland BA330.
I got excited when someone said the JBL was half the price. Wish that was so.
Hi mate do you mind to guide me on how to recharge the battery in this speaker?
Which speaker are you referring to?
Bauhn apas 114 the one in this video
What is the difference between the two headphones and how much are they priced?
on mine the battery does not charge. Battery isn't that old. Do you know how to reset this speaker?
So which one is good for Karaoke

Both have feedback killer and Ducking?
Hi, nice video. Are these good speakers for parties?? If 2 of them, say for 100 people party?? Thanks
NO! Less than 75 people
@@WWeiss-nv5vz thanks! Still great speakers, managed to throw a bomb party outdoors for about 50 with just a pair of those.
Can i use Bluethooth for Hybrid events or that will create lag=feedback?
Yes you can use Bluetooth
is there separate volumne for BT or line input and also for wireless mic channels. for over dub. I don't see enough vol buttons on the JBL.
Is it possible to connect these two speakers
Yes it is possible
Whats the crowd size range if i had two of these?
Can we use this Bose S1 purely for music listening? Is sound clear & crisp ?
Yes, I think it sounds great. I use it sometimes as my bluetooth speaker with my phone and take it outside for music when working in the yard or washing car, it is great for all that.
Hello! Can you use these speakers for E Drums?
You could but not for stage use
@@Noisegate Thanks for the reply!
👍👍👍 great video.
Br you could of play couple of more tracks to hear sound comparison which will give more clear idea about these speakers
Thanks for the reply🤝 I will check that out , I am looking for one for home visit worship and prayer with members and friends to do as like one band man style, we do it just with Yamaha PSR S950 also budget is one issue but main concern about sound base highs music vocal clarity our friends are very much love in music with prayer , which one will be better to choose thats a question in my head let see🤔
very nice video! thanks a lot !
Hi, Can it be used to connect to the Yamaha keyboard PSR SX600 ? If yes, XLR can is required to connect ? Thanks
Yes it can, a regular instrument cable or XLR will work
Best review
The jbl is not very good. Lots of digital things which give you lots of issues. I had two and both had problems charging and using any eq or digital effects. I took them both back. I thought maybe the first was a malfuntion. When the second did the same, i then returned it. I bought a bose s1 pro next and never been happier. Sounds great and is simple to use.
This is my only concern with the JBL.
how can I connect it to a PA System?
Which is louder? Does the jbl have more headroom with microphone than the S1
Yes the JBL is louder
@@Noisegate what about the bass? and the battery? thank you!
very helpful
Thankyou from France

How about wedding ceremonies? which one is recommended. Also would 1 speaker cover around 125 people for a wedding ceremony? Thanks for any responses in advance.
Hi Brent, if it is just speech then yes, if you want to play music at loud volume then 2 would be needed. The JBL is the louder of the 2
Thanks! They both sound kind of cheap and crappy to me, so I will be looking for another solution✅
has anyone used the ALTO PRO UBER FX
Wondering the same thing. Wanna know how it is when used with guitar/vocal/bass
@@alvinrahmawan3530 I bought the alto uber fx and its great
@@yamansitar6153 Thanks man. I think I'm leaning towards Alto Uber as well because Bose and JBL are too expensive haha. Hopefully Alto will serve me well
Bobs your uncle 😂 haven’t heard that for years lol
What would be a good wireless mic solution to use with one of these battery-powered speakers?
Not a cheap option though I have Sennheiser ew 135P G4-B camera handheld set. About A$850 (I got on sale for A$600).
The JBL sounded more flat and natural. Nice review! 👍
We're India or which country please mention country and price bro.
Hi, we are in Australia
yeah.....he is from india
well done
Realistically. Which one has longer battery life at high volume,?
We haven't tested that as yet
@@Noisegate how bout now? ;)
.... very cool.
DJ J Tech Did you do the firmware update? It addresses an issue with cold weather and an incorrect battery reading.
DJ J Tech My PC on button reacts the same way.I was wondering why it wouldn’t boot up.Just had to get use to it.
David Eidelberg I have same problem with cold weather, every morning battery indicator is red. I just update the firmware. Hope the problem is solve
Which of these is capable of the highest output before clipping? Also, which has the lowest self noise/hiss?
We'd say the JBL EON ONE Compact
oh, I forgot one thing: the SNAPSHOTS! Those are a life saver. I play several places regularly. I spent a little more time setting up on each, and once I got the sound the way I wanted, I saved it with the venue name. Now, all I have to do is load it, and I'm ready, soundchecked everytime. It's amazin.
On the JBL.
Mauro you still enjoying the Eon compact? Also how often do you use the eon one pro vs the eon one compact?
@@xguitarguyx77 I sold the Eon Compact for a profit (that's what I do, actually - because I need to travel often, I get gear for US price and sell for a little more in my country, and it's usually WAY less than the stores, so we're both happy) - anyway, I wasn't planning on, but somebody made an offer I couldn't refuse. So, right now, I only use the Pro, all the time. I'm selling it also, because I bought a new one and I'm flying there the next week or so. But really love it.
Soundboks is the best 👌 👍 😍
With the amount of features the JBL offers it makes it DIFFICULT to choose the Bose with the supposed better sound. I loop, sing and play acoustic. My question is could you EQ the jbl to closely match the bose? If so, it’s a no brainer. If you have a good ear and can eq it you get so many more features on the jbl and more bass (if you want it).
Yes we believe it does
Great review
So when ur playin' Bluetooth Music And It Does Not Enough Bass!? What can u do!?
Actually what I do with mine is I use a powered subwoofer.
Could you please explain about the ‘9V feature’ to power wireless from the battery? USB can only supply 5V
The EON ONE Compact has the ability to power AKG's DMS 100 & 300 wireless mic systems receivers via these ports
@@Noisegate how does this work? Is there an adapter, or?
@@michaeltedham As mentioned previously, the EON ONE Compact has the ability to power AKG's DMS 100 & 300 wireless mic systems receivers via these ports. Its because the AKG Wireless systems are made by the same company that makes JBL
The user guide says 2x 5V ports, one at 1A, one at 2A.
Can I use this in a trade show? Will it be loud enough?
In the immediate area yes, it all depends on how far you want to extend the sound
so can't charge and be on at the same time for the S1 Pro.
Bose s1 will charge whilst on,the button puts it in quick charge mode. The unit trickle charges whilst just in the on position
Bose has their usual bass boost around 100 Hz and another around 5 kHz to make it sound hyped but to my ears it's just a bit cheap.
kuti 77 both are decent... honestly you need s lot of tweaking with the bose. Mine sounds best when i decrease a lot of 5k increase some 1k and give a hight cut since the woofer limits super fast
Jbl been around since 1946 . Bose is more a marketing company ! Bose started in 1964.

What a terribly written comment

What of the 2 speakers sounds louder?
Claudio Giordano jbl eon one compact is louder it has a bigger woofer 8 inc practice and enjoy!
Well done to the point 👍
JBL clearly and not only quality and details of sound, better battery, better design, better connectivity, phantom, more power...you name it. Bose sounded bloated and way too artificial to be honest. Nice review.
You dont have one
JBL is cheaper and more features, but the bose is lighter and smaller and I've seen it prove to be LOUD. I will be carrying the speaker around so weight will probably effect my purchase decision the most Fudge decisions.
