I liked what you said about being honest. In our neighborhood last year there were 2 high school kid’s advertising they would mow lawns for a certain amount of money. My family was going to be out of town so we contacted them to mow our lawn and trim the edges. They showed up and did the job, however, while they were blowing the grass clippings off of our driveway one of them hit and damaged one of the bricks on the exterior of our house. They called me while I was out of town to tell me what happened and I appreciated them notifying me. A month or so later they called me to let me know they didn’t forget about the broken block but they RUclipsd how to repair a broken block and went to Menards to buy the material required to repair the issue. They came and did a very good job repairing the broken block. I would rehire these 2 individuals (or business) anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Like you said in you video that honesty goes a LONG way to the consumer.

It is really quite simple in today's climate where finding good help is very difficult. If contractors would just 1. Take pride in doing a good job. 2. Be where you say you are going to be when you say you are going to be there and communicate if you can't. 3. Be honest about timelines and clearly set expectations. If you do those things you will have more business than you can handle. Very easy to separate yourself as too many are looking for the next job rather than focusing on doing a good job on the current one.

I love these tips. I am not all on care professional. I say that a lot. All I am is a semi do-it-yourselfer. I still have a lawn care man. I wish you did have a CRM but at least whenever I text him I can be assured he will reply within a day. I got rid of two other lawn care people because they were not consistent. They would not show up on the same day of the week. That was important to me. Now I've got Martin and I know he is good. I know he'll be here at 4:00 p.m. on Fridays. Almost to the minute. If I ask him to trim palm trees, since they are super high, he gives me a quote and I take it. I take it and do not try to lower the price because I think he is reasonable. Because he has been doing my lawn so well, when I wanted an additional line put into the Rose garden and to the water fountain, he did it. It was not cheap, but I did not get quotes because he has been willing to do other things, smaller things, with no charge. So, someday soon when I want all river rock put into where of now got small red stones of sorts, he will be the one that tells me how much it cost. If I can afford it I will get it done. Will I do for myself is try to hand aerate my 750 ft² of grass. I have a two hole puncher and I will use it. It is not easy for me since I am a bit handicapped. But I like getting out there and doing something. I also have a hand dethatcher that I will use. And of course I will put down my own fertilizer and grass seed. But working on the sprinklers is his job. It's too tough for me to lay down sprinkler lines. So thank you for your list of things that are important. And pride of a job is indeed the first.

One more little tip that my man does is when he sees the empty trash cans out on the road, he wheels them back in. Both the recycle bin and the trash can. It is a small thing but it is much appreciated. Especially since I know it's not really his job. So little things do count a lot.

The biggest tip I can give is for them to be on time and on the day of the week that they say they will be. In some cases I want to be home. Especially in the beginning. While we are developing a relationship. So be consistently on time. Do not say you're going to be here on Wednesday and not show up until Friday. Tell me the day that you're able to be here and do so.

Yes, sir. * For the owners out there. Communication is key! Treat every lawn as if it were your own. Follow through and attention to detail! And for God's sake require your guys to clean the fert off the sidewalks.

Does anyone know why you would top dress with sand and not top soil? I live in TN and have very hard pack red clay. Improving the soil has been a nightmare.

(...not related to running a business, but) do you have any advice for me - a homeowner who takes great pride in keeping everything pristine - regarding dissenting comments from long-time rental neighbors that get back to me through mutual acquaintances, regarding me "picking up every little thing"?! My property ends up being the landing area for neighborhood trash when it's windy and I have a real aversion for cigarette butts. I have public sidewalk out front, and my side boundary abuts their parking lot. I hold my head high but their sniping that gets back to me still eats at me. 🥴🤷🏼‍♀️👩🏼‍🌾💚 =^..^=
