Did see a previous vlog that suggested that a piece of wood to the width of area you put the slider in, also longer, which allows turning easier. Thanks for another memorable vlog 😊
Thank you so much! Thanks to you showing me how to open the blooming lid and what the inside looks like - I managed to put together my dislodged blade, white thing that had fallen off and attached float! Saved me £100 for a new casette ! Thank You!!!!
Great vlog, have used a cassette toilet for 10 years & didn’t know that top undid! In NZ a guy has marketed a ‘dumpmate’ which is a shaped pvc tube which is designed to fit into a caravan dump station and you upend the cassette into the pvc tube and you see nothing as the contents disappear down the tube which is then rinsed & put back in its bag …great invention …worth checking out. Enjoy your vlogs from Kiwiland. You never stop learning!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoy the vlogs. Now I've got a weird mental image of this device, which is probably nothing like what it looks like in real life :-)
An email link to this 5 year old video has landed in my inbox but, here's my advice based on experience. There is some debate when using the toilet whether the flap should be open or closed. For anything more than a wee the flap definitely should be open. The flap mechanism isn't designed to support any weight and the plastic fixings will break. I know as I've just had to replace the whole mechanism. The mechanism is really difficult to remove the first time especially. I use a short length of 4" wide MDF in place of the plastic flap which gives far greater leverage. Before replacing the mechanism spray the seals with silicone or PTFE lubricant, GT 85 works well. This makes removal and refitting a doddle in future. Don't wait for the tank full warning light to come on. I have got into the habit of emptying the cassette when it's only ½ to ⅔ full. The cassette is lighter and shaking it a bit helps break up the loo paper so you don't get annoying blockages. Happy caravanning!😊👍
Wow! Great video! Thanks for screwing that big top piece off and showing us right inside. Very interesting. It allows one to see how good a job one has done emptying and cleaning. 👍
If the handle gets loose before tightening screws undo them a bit and put some drops of epoxy resin or superglue down the side of the screws then tighten them down. Makes a much stronger bond.
Hiya I've seen a lot of ppl are now usion washing tabs/liquid in cassette. Keeps costs down & they say work just as well. Personally I hope cassette clean machines ramp out their rollout ASAP much better :)
Thanks John. That’s the first time I’ve done it. I was surprised to see the loo paper in there 😧 it is flipping hard to move. Thanks for watching 👍🏻Graham
Really useful video Graham, thanks for sharing (along with the remaining contents of your toilet 🤣👍🏻) to be honest I’ve never taken that bit off, I just turn the hole open and rinse inside and it does the trick when cleaning. Thanks, Aaron
We have just got a new caravan and we have the same cassette as you have but its 2/3 of the size we used to have and it needs emptying less than every 24 hrs!!
My mate and his wife never use their caravan loo. He told me that after the first attempt at emptying the cassette, he nearly chundered! His wife said she couldn't stand the thought of emptying the cassette either. later, they said they never use the shower either.......now wait a minute here!!! So I got to thinking......, just how many caravan owners behave the same way? You know folks, we've all been to the NEC show. Each year, (as Brits), it makes me laugh how we applaud the merest of little changes, a knob here, a coat hook there, hell, even I was impressed when Swift did that funny drop down bed thing in 2018. But what about NOT fitting a toilet and bathroom facility altogether??? If there's a demand for caravans without these things primarily because site facilities are so good these days, look how much more space there would be in a van, not forgetting the savings. You know, I might even consider that coz Im sick off emptying the dam cassette in the rain!!. That also includes issues navigating betwixt other caravans, incurring all those dirty looks as I trespass over their pitches during the cassette run!!
Thanks for watching Julie. You pull out the cassette as normal and the handle pulls out. You need to push it in a bit then pull it up, if the makes sense. Graham
We never put loo roll into the toilet we have a bag of bio degradable nappy sacks pop loo roll in and put in bin, we don't poop in our loo except for emergencies, the grandkids are allowed, but it makes emptying the cassette so easy. It's only like say going to Greece we weren't allowed to put paper down the loo there.
Top Tip: Don't like the smell of the Cassette chemicals? Embarrassed to "Fully Utilize" the caravan loo in front of spouse and family? Search for SOG ventilation kit. I fitted mine on the Thetford C260 easy, from then on, no smells, not even when one is in "full utilization mode". The wife thinks its a great thing. Saves everyone from embarrassment.
Hi Graham, always worth watching videos like you have made even if you are experienced. its worth noting that the bit most likely to wear is the assembly you removed and that can be replaced on its own instead of buying a whole new cassette complete if need be.
Steve Deboer Thanks for the comment. Great thanks I didn’t know that, just had a look and it’s £44.99, cheaper than buying a new one! Thanks for watching Graham
Graham little tip for your toilet so that you find it easier to undo Put vaseline around the round seal you won't have trouble you had trying to open cassette Also you can buy toilet roll that is for your cassette wjich stops clogging that you have experienced in your cassette Amazon sells this www.amazon.co.uk/Thetford-Aqua-Soft-Toilet-Rolls/dp/B000TR3RDG
Stole my comment Mr Grump! Your powers of observation do you credit! My 'empty toilet light' wouldn't turn off, even though I had emptied the cassette. I tried cleaning all the components and electronics in the cassette bay, but to no avail. Which was when I turned to RUclips, found you, and learned about the floater in the cassette. Which was stuck, but is now freshly cleaned, and even greased! Thanks for informing an overeducated engineer on the basic operating principles of his toilet 😁😎😉
Keith on Carefree Caravanning suggested the bit of wood, see ruclips.net/video/G46AiVH6Orc/видео.html also the float moves a magnet to operate a reed switch which is outside of the cassette in the base of the toilet. Thanks for the video.
Did see a previous vlog that suggested that a piece of wood to the width of area you put the slider in, also longer, which allows turning easier. Thanks for another memorable vlog 😊
Ah yes I have seen that one, I don’t think it would break that easily though. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻 Graham

well done, mate. Good explanation. thanks.

Not the caravan quickie I was thinking of 😂😂😂😂😂 but another great vlog and I'm glad I'm not the only person to wear gloves 👍👍👍👍
Haha glad you picked up on the caravan quickie reference. Couldn’t help myself! Yeah must wear gloves. Thanks for watching 👍🏻Graham
Very useful thank you
Thanks for watching glad you found it useful.

Thanks for watching. I can’t say we spend a fortune on toilet fluid so wonder how much you’d save by using washing tablets 🤷♂️
Good video Graham. I took the cover off ours when it was new and before we used it. It was bloody hard to do then.
Thanks John. That’s the first time I’ve done it. I was surprised to see the loo paper in there 😧 it is flipping hard to move. Thanks for watching 👍🏻Graham
Thanks for an interesting vlog. As a relatively new caravanner still I look forward to the next Quickie.
Tony Cheffings thanks. There’s a lot of stuff to know when you start. I’m still learning and forgetting and relearning 😂Thanks for watching. Graham
Really useful video Graham, thanks for sharing (along with the remaining contents of your toilet 🤣👍🏻) to be honest I’ve never taken that bit off, I just turn the hole open and rinse inside and it does the trick when cleaning. Thanks, Aaron
I showed the footage of said loo to Mandy and she was fine for me to share “tissue-gate” 😂thanks for watching Graham
We have just got a new caravan and we have the same cassette as you have but its 2/3 of the size we used to have and it needs emptying less than every 24 hrs!!
Stuart Rich thanks for watching. We don’t need smaller toilets we need the bigger !! Didn’t notice ours was smaller than previous 🤷♂️Graham
Thanks graham another brilliant vlog. I always wondered what that orange button was for.
Thanks Stuart for the comment and for watching. Oh yes you have to push the orange button when emptying 😱Graham

We always use the site showers and the loo is for #1 only.
You keep showing my jobs I need to get round to lol. But another great video Graham 👍. And great idea on the caravan quickies series for beginner
Nice one Graham...
I'm sure the wife appreciated having that done in the lounge of her caravan!!
Good point, but I did clean the outside and get permission 🤔. Thanks for watching. Graham
Hi how do you retract the orange telescopic handle or does it retract when you insert the the thetford C260 cassette back in the caravan receptical?
Thanks for watching Julie. You pull out the cassette as normal and the handle pulls out. You need to push it in a bit then pull it up, if the makes sense. Graham

No I haven’t but sounds grim 😩
Good job mate, helped a lot... thanks

We never put paper down our cassette - we do what the Greeks do and put the used tissue in a waste paper bin - so much less hassle
It’s a dirty job, but someone gotta do it... now, where’s the wife? 😂😂
pink cos it stink, blue cos you poo lol
haha not heard that on before 👍🏻Thanks for watching and commenting Graham
Great video Graham. Please stop touching you glasses with your poo covered gloves.
