Hi guys, just a tip. Try steaming your eggs, bring water to a boil, put eggs on to steam for 10-13 minutes or until at your desired doneness. peels perfectly every time. even fresh eggs. I use my rice cooker, it's super easy 😊.
Thanks for the valuable tips!
Hey friends! Today we check out more kitchen gadgets from the 100 yen store. This time, we test out 5 egg gadgets from Cando!
TabiEats I love the Egg shapers.
If you cook the eggs just a *tiny bit* more, they are waay easier to peel :P
TabiEats For the sunny-side maker. Maybe try to use the separator first and separate yolk from white. Pour white in first and place yolk on top?
Adding a good amount of salt in the water when you are boiling eggs - makes removing the shell easier after the egg is boiled.
for the karan koron (?), i think you should make the face on the yolk as if it's a chick inside an egg shell.
I liked the egg timer. I would get most use out of that.
Peeling: It helps to bang the egg like you did - but then roll it around pressing it down gently on the work surface to crack the shell more and make it come away from the egg before you try to peel it. But Satoshi is right. The fresher the egg the more difficult it is to peel! (and soft boiled is also more difficult than hard-boiled. For that reason we eat soft boiled eggs from the shell with the egg sitting in an egg-cup - we only peel hard-boiled eggs)
Trick for peeling eggs! Peel them over the sink under water, and use the side of your thumb to push the egg shell pieces away. Much easier, and I get perfect eggs every time. Also cracking and rolling the egg around a hard surface until the entire shell is crumbled helps.
Watching you guys decorate the small face on the egg with sesame seeds just made my day, especially when Shinichi said, "this egg doesn't look that happy!" :D
Keep these 100 yen video coming. They are really helpful. When I'm at the 100 yen I'm curious if it works. Now I have to go back to Japan and buy those gadgets now that I see it works. Especially the egg timer and the egg mold -I seen it and was about to pick it up; wished I had.
Kitchen Gadget Addict here. LOVED the bunny egg shaper. More gadget hauls! Suggestion - make fancy veggie/fruit shapes.
those eggs looks so good, like the quality of the yolk looks way better than any store bought US eggs ive had.
The round egg shape could have been done using a tuna can on the stove with a bit of bacon grease for flavor, or butter or Pam. A+ to the egg separator. Regarding the egg spike poker, egg cookers used to have one in the middle to help egg yolks from exploding, not for easy peeling, but nowadays it's a space to cook an extra egg in the middle. Nice video!
I'm nuts about kitchen gadgets!! I watch America's Test Kitchen religiously and my favorite segment is the gadget part! I need that egg timer! It resulted in soft-boiled eggs exactly how I like them! Thanks for the great show guys!
Hi Satoshi and Shinichi good to see you guy's ENJOY this video thanks stay safe God BLESS to all of u
I give Japanese mommy's So much credit for taking the time to make their children's lunches So Adorable !! I'm so happy I subscribed to you guys a few weeks ago, I'm loving every single video !!🍻👍👍👍👍👍
I used to use the egg shapers for my kids lunches when they were little. They LOVED it! The ones I have are fish and car shape.
I use the bunny shapers for mine and my husband's lunch bento. Makes us enjoy preparing our lunch everyday
to get the yolk in the middle you have to seperate it and place first the white and then the yolk in the form. the hole puncher is not for making shelling easier but to stop the shell from cracking during cooking😁
I love the egg shaper, so cute! I wish we had stuff like that in American dollar stores.
Please do more on 100 yen store gadgets. Those are cool an useful.
@TabiEats use a spoon to open the egg. crack all around the egg. slip the spoon carefully between egg and peel, go around the egg while pulling up but slightly slanted. its faster and it won't really damage the egg.
I like the shapes and gadgets that make faces, does make bento very good and kids will be happier to eat and play at the same time.
Loved this video! Please keep the 100 yen store tools coming. I actually have both of the egg shapers you have so it was fun to watch you use them.
Eggsellent! That yolk separator was probably the most useful
Mmmmm... eggs... I kinda like the sunny side up microwave idea, but the egg timer seems the most useful.
You two are too cute ❤️❤️
They are easier to peel with the hole in the shell. When you peel them that way, tap around the shell like you normally do, then lightly roll it to break the shell a bit more. The trick though is to start peeling from where you poked the hole. The water under the shell there makes it easier to get the shell off there and then it peels the membrane with it that pulls the rest of the shell easier with it. If you don't start peeling from the hole though, it doesn't make much of a difference.
The tool to poke holes, are around forever. We used to own one.
Afaik, it is not for easier peeling, but to prevent the eggs from cracking/leaking during cooking. That worked as a charm.
The poke goes through the air pocket at the bottom of every egg and therefore releases the pressure of the air during the cooking process.
I just purchased the heart & circle egg shapers & after watching your video i am super excited to try them out later on today!
Still love these videos. Any video of you tryin gadgets or new meals. Like the omelette in a bag. Please make a new one. Any store. Any gadgets. Love the store series.
You two were like big kids, so fun and cute to watch ! If you can and want, continue this type of video, it's really cool ! :D
I bought those hard boiled egg molds from Daiso when I visited Japan, i really like them, they are cute.
Hi guys, I was told at domestic science school to always poke a hole in an egg so it wouldn't burst during cooking!! And not to make it easier to peel the egg. I love your videos so much, keep it up. Lots of love from Belgium, Pinkie
The rabbit one is very funny - I think that I should take an empty suitcase with me when visiting Japan the next time!
Don't forget that empty suitcase my friend!
My empty suitcase would be full of skincare and sweets :)
You can find daiso in the states also! I just got a bunch today!!!
Just some help with peeling eggs. The fresher, the harder to peel. A sure bet is to add baking soda to the water, no matter the time. They will peel perfect.
The other is having your hands wet helps with the shell. The other is to hit the large bottom first, there is an air pocket that will give more room to grab the shell, never hit on it's side.
One other is when making sunny side up, the higher you drop the egg into the pan, it will break the yolk.
Loved watching this!
Huh, I never knew egg-picks are supposed to make peeling easier. My family has always used them for a different reason: we first boil the water, then poke the hole into the bottom of the egg and then put the cold eggs into the hot water (this makes it easier to control time, so a '5 min egg' is boiled for exactly 5 min). The hole in the air pocket at the egg bottom keeps the egg shell from cracking and spilling the whites out as the sudden rise in pressure is vented through that hole.
I always start peeling at that pocket, so I never found a difference between eggs with or without the tiny hole. But I second that 'older' eggs are easier to peel.
I think that egg timer is kinda nifty, too. I like how it looks like a boiled egg at medium stage.
A timer in the water thing is very useful so much use out of that
I love the animal egg molds! They're so cute! They work really well. I dunno if you have smaller eggs, but the ones I've made filled the entire mold and they squish out the sides when you close them. The faces are really defined. 🐰🐻🐟🚙
You guys are so fun, keep making videos!!!
I have the egg piercer. I put a hole in each end of the egg. I wrap my fingers around the egg, and gently press the piercer into the egg, rather than pushing the egg onto the pin. In the area I live, all the eggs are impossible to peel when boiled. The egg piercer has made all the difference and I will always use it
The first one, I had one of them when I was a child in Canada. very useful when making hollandaise!
The egg molds and the egg separator are the best. I have used an egg separator for many years.
I like the egg separator. You can separate the yolk from the white, but also if you notice the glob that dropped when you lifted, could be scooped out. That is the part with the cord that the chicken starts to grow off. Take that out and it will help the egg yolk sit in the middle of the other sunny side up form. In French cooking, chefs often take this out to make the egg taste better. This works in recipes too. Love the cute egg timer, brilliant design. I got an egg timer from the dollar store here and I wound it up, heard the spring go and that was that. The timer didn't even work once lol. You could make scary Halloween eggs with the roll cutter!! The egg pin thing would be great for a joke. Put the hole in both ends and blow the egg out, throw at an unsuspecting friend you ask for help in the kitchen, 100 yen becomes priceless lol. Also good for kid friendly Easter eggs. I would get the separator, timer and cutter!!
I'm so excited to see all these gadgets I've been wanting to see get used! The egg shapers seem like a really fun idea. Too bad I rarely eat boiled eggs. Good to know about putting water on eggs if I'm going to microwave them whole.
Using the egg-pick helps the egg not to crack while cooking because any air can get out easier - rolling the egg by pressing a little after cooking helps peeling better...For soft boiled eggs the Lady from "Cooking With Dog" and "RunnyRunny999" recommend putting the eggs in boiling water for 6 minutes (5, depending on the size), remove them and then put them into ice-water and peel them in the water to make it easier to remove the shell ("younger" eggs are more difficult to peel)...AND if you want to follow Cooking-With-Dogs recipy for ramen-soup: make a mix of sake, mirin and soy-sauce and let the pealed eggs sit in it for a few hours...Love your videos...Love 100-Yen-Shops (been a hundred of times to Japan - one of my favorite countries)...Greetings from Germany :-)
Hi Shinichi and Satoshi,
i know those Egg-Pricker only when used on Top and Bottom of a Raw Egg, than you put that pricked raw egg to your lips and blow the Egg-White and Yolk out (takes practise and strong lungs). The empty Egg-Shell can than be painted / dekorated.
If you cut a Match (fire-starting Matches...) in half, tie a tight fitting knot with some sewing Thread in the middle of the cut Match, than carefully fit that match thru the top hole of the Eggshell till it is inside. Now you can hang the painted / decorated Eggshell where you like.
Those painted Eggshells are often made for Eastern here in Germany but can make a nice present. If you go with crystals and pretty stones dont over do it like a Mr. Fabergé :D
Great idea!
We have the bear and rabbit egg molds. Haven't used them in so long, and now you've made me want to get them out again!
As always, I really enjoyed you video. Just an observation, soft boiled eggs are typically not peeled. Normally the shell is removed from the large end & the egg is scooped out using a small spoon. There are small cups used to hold them but they aren't easy to find these days.
Daniel Thom Thrift stores
I love these 100 Yen store videos
There's a special tool to cut off the top of the soft egg, so you can eat it with a little spoon. The tool is like a special kind of scissors, and is hard to find! There are other styles, some are metal and strike the top of the egg with a small metal cup, and break the shell in a circle so you can remove it. One way or another, if you do this and have a little egg cup to hold the cooked egg, it's very nice. An English girl taught me to eat this by putting butter, salt and pepper in to the egg, and then eating it with little sticks of toast the size of french fries, you can dip that into the egg yolk. It's very delicious, if you have good eggs you can really taste that.
I used to have an egg separater but it got lost somewhere....it's sad, that tool is soooo useful! It's easy and quick and less messy on your fingers. I'd definitely buy a new one :D
I have the egg-shapers as well! But now I want the karan-koron one and the timer too! so cute!
Love these vids~ the egg shapers are so cute!
I want those boiled egg shapers SO BAD!! I keep looking at the dollar stores and Japanese import stores and they never have any :(
Amazon has sets if you have access to Amazon
They have them on the Wish app and almost all the other gadgets
HOW ADORABLE ARE THOSE EGG SHAPERS! awwwww, I quite liked the egg cutter and the wee face. aww.
loving this channel
I have the egg shapers! They're so cute. I think the omelet maker could be useful for college students who may not have a stove, but I've done the same thing in a coffee cup and it worked fine.
I have egg separator ...even my grandmother had one it is faster ...the molds are cute especially the bunny one ...
I loved the hard boiled egg shapers! Yes please, more 100 yen videos.
that egg timer and mold is so cute.
Love these videos and wanted to say that; Yes fresh eggs are harder to peal. You can use a spoon by putting the tip under the crack in the shell and following the shape of the egg. Also the hole is so the egg shell doesn't crack while cooking. It lets out pressure that builds up during cooking.
The large molds could be used for scrambled eggs also. Might want to turn them half way through cooking though since your microwave is hotter on one side.
When I watched your other video with the bottle top opener I thought that would be good for disabled people. As someone with MS I lose strength in my hand so that would help me if I drank soda :D
These 2 guys are hilarious
If I bought any of these it would be the rabbit mold. I also like the omelette and sunny side up molds.
As for poking a hole in the shell before boiling, yes, it's true, it works. Jacques Pepin teaches that you poke a tiny hole in the rounder end of the egg because that's the end with an air chamber between the shell and outer membrane. You poke deeply enough to make a hole in the shell, but not in outer membrane. When the egg boils, the pressure from the egg will release via the tiny hole. You can see tiny bubbles coming out of it. (Without poking a hole, the egg will tend to break while boiling, but the tiny hole provides pressure release without the egg shell busting.) When it's done, you peel the egg under running water to get the water between the shell and the membrane, et voila, you have a beautifully peeled egg. I do this and it works every time. And it's true, the older the egg the better, because as time goes on, the air chamber gets bigger. Fresh eggs have a small chamber, while older eggs have a larger one. I use 2 week old eggs, and no, they're not rotten. They come out just fine. :)
Yay! Yes please share more ¥100 store purchases!! 👍🏼
Love these videos!
More coming up!
I love your gadget videos my friends. Great job ;-)
The hole that you made in the eggshell was so that you blow on it. You peel the opposite end of the hole, then you blow on it (the hole made) and it will peel pretty clean.
The water trick works well if you either crack the shell and run it under running water while you gently peel it or put it in a container/glass with water and gently shake until the egg shell comes off. I like to use a small tupperware container. One that would fit two eggs maximum in it. and fill with water, crack the shell and put in, and put on the lid. Then shake it around with gentle force (not too hard but not to soft) and it will peel itself.
glad I found this gem of a video
I love eggs and I think I'll use the egg shaper the most, haha
tip in peeling: after you put in cold/ice water, you crack just the bottom part. remove the shell there and you'll see there's a small room for your fingers to start peeling the shell.
I love the omelette and the egg shapers!
You can use the egg separator to separate the yolk for the sunny side up microwave tray to center it :)
I love boiled eggs! And oh my goodness these gadgets 💛 I love the egg shapers and the egg cutters :)
Ooh, and the egg timer :) very cute!
So fun! I feel like were going to wind up spending lots of yen in the 100 yen stores on unique kitchen gadgets! We have a egg mold that forms the egg into a chick or a skull.
A visit to the 100 yen store is a must here!
TabiEats on the drive over to the airport we found a bag of coins in the car and I picked through them and found so many 100 yen coins and a few 500 yen coins so I'm ready for a 100 yen store shopping spree!
hi, the hole maker us actually to prevent the egg cracking while cooking. the bottom part/fat end/end with the air bubble has to be pierced, so the air can expand without cracking the shell.
greetings from Berlin!
Hello there and thanks so much for watching!
And if you use not-so-fresh eggs, and once they're boiled, immediately put in cold water, crack shells all over in the cold water, makes they easier to peel.
More gadgets !! I love it !
Sadly we can't buy those gadget on internet on their website :'(
i loved that timer, so cute !
I love these videos
Love your videos.. It's really fun to watch. :) oh btw, A Friend explained that The pin pricking device is suppose to stop the shell from cracking when you boil the egg. Unsure if it is suppose to help make it easier to remove shell or not.
I bought the egg shaper (bunny and bear) from ebay some years ago.
I love them :)
I love the gadgets!
that's usually how I make my hard-boiled eggs! I fill the pot, then I sort of let my eggs drop into the pot so that they hit the bottom and crack a little. it really makes peeling easier and it doesn't squirt water out.
Eggs and microwaves? Not great friends.
+Ben Ritchie McWrath definitely not
bring the eggs up to room temp and poke the yolks. i'd bring down the oven's power to 500w and get me some damn fine eggs.
The egg separator and the hole-puncher are Gadgets from the 60ties. The hole-puncher should help to avoid the eggs feom cracking while boiling.
Loved the egg shaper
I learned that the egg needle is for helping the air in the raw egg out (between egg white and shell - the amount depends on the freshness of the egg) before boiling. But scientific experiments showed that the bursting of eggs is not significantly reduced by using this technique/tool
The egg hole works like this i've heard:
You poke the hole on one side;
On the other side of the egg you take out a bit of shell to uncover the top and then you blow air to the side with the little hole so the egg goes out of the big hole i think! hope it works
I have the boiled egg shapers and I love them!!!
I used to use the egg shapes in my kids bentos. The egg timer is also great as it's really accurate. The rest would be clutter.
If you separate the yolk from the white- and cook the white for one minute first- the yolk will center better,And if you cook the egg for only 30 seconds more the yolk won't explode. :)
Liked the egg separator...still waiting for a coffee episode....Thank you for making your video's..
Coffee episode coming soon!
I see a theme here lol. Also I love how most of the gadgets were cute
Your eggs look so delicious! The yolk is so vibrant! I love the bunny egg mold. I'm going to have to look for it next time I go to Daiso. :)
Tip for anyone who needs to peel hardboiled eggs. Tap the bottom (the fatter part) of the egg to break the shell, but there is an air pocket there so you dont harm the egg. Also big tip is dont use the tip of your thumb to peel use the side of your thumb. It's a weird push into the eggs barely and pulling up on the egg shell. I eat boiled eggs for lunch most every day.
we have the hole poker, it is not just used to help peel, it is used to rpevent the egg from exploding in the water if you want it hard boiled. you have to put it on a flat surface, and then with one hand gently push down until it pierces it. ^-^ careful when peeling them, water will come from the hole!
You have an egg separator right there. Separate the egg, pop the white into the heart shape one, then gently pop the separated yolk in the middle. Voila, perfect heart-shaped sunny-side up microwave egg!
I have a few daiso molds but not as cute as rabbit and bear. Thank you for sharing.
We've been using this egg needle gadget in Germany for at least 40 years, but I've never heard that it's for better peeling. You have to press the needle into the egg on the side where the air bubble is, so the expanding gas won't break the shell during cooking. Pure physics. ☺
love ur videos if u start at the bottom of ur egg to peel it where there is a air pocket it will peel easier
Haha...you are a terrible egg peeler! Great video! Definitely, would like to see another video in the near future. :-) Thank You, for entertaining me with your videos:-) keep up the good work!
I am. I know!!! haha
I have these bunny and bear egg molds, I got them 5 years ago at manga/anime convention in Poland... and they were pretty much a lot more expensive than equivalent of 100 yen xDD But they work well! I don't use them often because I'm lazy, but they're absolutely adorable :D
The egg timer was my favorite, my kid doesn't eat the yolk when I boil eggs cause it comes out hard boiled, I think if I knew when it was medium boiled he would eat the whole thing
