      +Tenzin Teselha I buy my Furikake at my local Asian market- you can get pretty big canisters of them for $2.99 in all sorts of flavours. The packages she was holding up are small, individuals packets and those are more expensive, usually on ebay or amazon. I LIVE on furikake, it totally changed rice for me, I love it!!
      I also love sweet soy sauce!! I put it on everything :)

      I use a piece of decorative shelf liner hanging on my oven handle.
      Everything I own is black, grey, and metal so I bought a roll of black shelf liner and had some excess, and one day I discovered it works incredibly well for opening jars, twisting stuck bulbs without breaking them... etc.
      They make a ton of colors, patterns and styles. I'm sure you could find a roll that matches your stuff pretty easily. I just trimmed my extra to be a perfect rectangle, stitched some black ribbon around the edge and put a leather loop on it.. I never ended up using the loop though lol I'm just a crafty dude and can't help going waaaay overboard on everything I do ;P haha
      Anyway, it's s cool tip. Try it out?

    • @catherinejustcatherine1778

      Great to know.
      I use a silicone circle. It's about 6" diameter & flat. I got one from a health fair & one from a grocery give away. I love them.
      I've seen people use thin disposable gloves too. They don't even put them on, just use the outside.
      I've seen success with vinyl, silicone, nitrile & latex. I think the key is: anything that grips & holds helps.

    My parents boil eggs TO DEATH. They put the eggs in when the water is cold and leave the pot on the stove for like 30 minutes or more. The yolks get this weird light grey color around the outsides and they're so dry I end up choking on the things lol If you made an egg boiling tutorial, I would show it to my parents lol

    • @tabaks
      @tabaks 7 лет назад +35

      Mone Moore the only thing they have to change is to turn off the hotplate as soon as previously cold water with eggs boils, move it onto a flat non-metal surface and leave it all covered for 30 minutes without peeking. You'll have some good hard boiled eggs without any overcooking. Since your parents already "waste" 30 minutes, this would be the exact correction for them without any time adjustment needed.

      Xeidasx it's pretty simple. First bring the water to a rolling boil, and done people say add a splash of vinegar to keep the eggs from cracking. Carefully lower the eggs into the pot and boil for 5-10 minutes. For easier peeling dump the eggs in cold ice water straight after they are done

We live in FL so we don't want her to be hot an miserable! She's so damn fluffy though, I might honestly try thise gloves. They look like they'd work, depending on how sticky they are...

    We have the "PiepEi" (direct translation = peep egg) which is a plastic egg which you place in cold water with your real eggs and then bring to a boil. The PiepEi will start beeping different songs when the eggs are soft/medium/hard, so far it never disappointed me :) You can get several editions that have classical music, rock songs, etc, often with (bad) egg-related puns in the titels.

    • @BLY99
      @BLY99 7 лет назад +7

      +emmymadeinjapan The egg shell sticking has to do with how fresh your eggs and not how you cook them. If the eggs are fresh they will stick, that is why you need to use eggs that are more than a week old at least. So buy fresh eggs for poaching, frying and so on and leave some older eggs for boiling.

    • @Malcadicta
      @Malcadicta 7 лет назад

      All above is true. As for me I just go along with sticky eggs :)
      There is also, I found, a small trouble with boiling water if you wish your eggs to remain without any fractures in the shell (like when in Poland you want at least a dozen whole ones to do "pisanki" - which is basically painting them or drawing on them whatever you like (this years kids in my family went with lots of black crayon ;) ), a kind of thing you do here for Easter) there is a better chance they will crack due to temperature diffrence. Though with normal eggs it doesn't really matter :)

      Then your pan's too hot. Have the pan at a medium heat, use half butter and half olive oil (though it doesn't matter much) and slide the eggs in. Put a lid on the skillet for the last 30 seconds to finish off the top of the egg before the 'white' burns.

    • @Zahertorta

      The best way is to use a small pan and poor in a cm of good olive oil and then put in on the smallest heat possible, put in the eggs and use a spoon to put the olive oil over the white. This way you are poaching them instead of frying them, put some salt only after they are done cooking.

      The best method I've found for making perfectly cooked and peel-able eggs (even with new eggs) is to steam them rather than boil them. Bring the water to a boil first, add the eggs to the steamer, cover and turn down to low (about 3 on the stove dial) and cook 15 minutes for hardboiled (no longer or they will overcook!) or 13-14ish minutes for a softer yolk. I then transfer mine to a bowl with ice water and let sit until cool.

  • @LisaMarli
    @LisaMarli 5 лет назад +1

    I actually have one of those egg "timer" things, they are sold in American stores too. I don't use them to time hard boiled eggs, but rather soft and medium eggs which are trickier. And you learn by trial and error where on the timer those donenesses are for you. I like it for that purpose.
    The rice baller looks useful too. I'll have to check my Daiso. I see a fun Japanese shopping trip in my future.

      She would take them into the shower, and while her hair conditioner sat for a few she would clean them with baby shampoo, then hang them upside down to dry and then like... I dunno.. _massage_ them or something? Idk.. it was wierd as hell. Maybe she was shaping them or something, idk.. it was her relaxing private time so I never asked. I'd just watch her work sometimes because it was cute watching her do tedious work.
      Anyway, if you have a bunch of brushes and they aren't professional grade... just shower with them lol use baby shampoo or dawn soap like she did, and hang them upside down. Even I know you don't want water to sit in the metal bit around the brushy bits. If you have expensive ones... buy the spray. It's cheap, I've actually bought it for her a few times before. The mat is only a few bucks and the spray is like 5 bucks too. Cheap stuff.
      You don't want to get acne or infections from using dirty brushes. Everyone has Staph bacteria in their nose and streptococcus in their pores... spread that shit around and.... very bad. Haha
      Hope this helps.
      Dating a makeup doer girl had it's benefits if I can use some of what I learned to help others. Especially about being clean, you'd be surprised how often people get infections or pink eye from makeup brushes. They sit in your bathroom, you go poop, you flush, poop particles land on your stuff, you wipe poop onto your face and into your eyes. Infection.
      Always store your makeup outside of the bathroom and sanitize your stuff regularly with 91% Iso Alcohol (you can buy it at the dollar tree and put it in a spritz bottle) to kill germs.
      Good luck! Lol

    The rice ball thing is too cute!!!!! Also Emmy I have a question about the seasoning that you put on the rice balls. What is it exactly? Like an herb mix? Is that something typical of Japan to add a seasoning mix like that to rice? Hope you are having a great 2017 so far! xo

      Ropodog I recently found the same rice ball and rice roll (mini sushi roll) shakers on ebay but I haven't used them yet! Furikake is usually used to make plain rice taste better. The seasonings are quite nice and there are also coloured seasonings to make rice pink, yellow etc!

      Sarah Moorhead - You toast slices of bread, butter them, then cut them in to strips (like an inch and a half wide). We call those buttered strips soldiers 😀 Then you dip those in to your soft boiled egg. You'll need an egg cup to sit the egg in 😉 Best breakfast EVER. My kids love it!

    • @quinngetliff4177
      @quinngetliff4177 7 лет назад +2

      Vedder Palmer American here. I'd never heard of boiled egg and soldiers or even seen an egg cup until I married my English husband. I don't even know anyone who eats soft boiled eggs here. I definitely think such things are uncommon here.

    • @Brynwyn123
      @Brynwyn123 7 лет назад +1

      Alyxandria Getliff I find that strangely sad, given it was such a staple during my childhood. I wonder why it is- possibly related to the increased likelihood of getting salmonella? Or just one of those things without a particular reason. Do you eat them now and, if you have tried it, was the different texture off-putting?

    • @quinngetliff4177
      @quinngetliff4177 7 лет назад +1

      Vedder Palmer Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if the fear of salmonella is why we don't eat soft eggs. I think Americans are generally very conscious of salmonella, more so than any friends I have from outside the States. I personally have never tried a soft boiled egg, I generally just don't like eggs much to begin with. It looks very... slimy though, so I'm not to eager to try it anyways! 😬

    • @dfsgirl

      Vedder Palmer nope we only have hard boiled eggs. I have never had a soft boiled egg.

    • @SakuraiKunLikes

      Most salmonella are affected from the outer shell of the egg, meaning the some of the chicken poop got into the egg lol 😅 These days, eggs are process to be clean and somewhat safe compare to the old days 😊

      I think it's better for people who eat a lot of rice? So you can make bigger batches. Also, maybe if you only had two burners on the stove and they were both taken up, you could use the rice cooker? So better for apartments, maybe.

    The peeler gloves seem like they would work really well to really scrub clean russet potatoes for baked potatoes! I usually have to use a brand new scotch sponge with the green scrubby side every time I want to make baked potatoes. Yes it's just a sponge, but they aren't cheap and I only use them once on food. I love the flavor of the potato peel ( and retaining the nutrients! ) on my baked potatoes. The gloves obviously do not actually peel, but they would seem to work well as a thurough reusable scrubber for root vegetables! Thanks for your wonderful, honest, and very helpful reviews!!! You have saved me untold amounts of time, hastle and frustration, as well as money! THANK YOU! You are incredible and entertaining in every video you make!
