    The onion cutter is good for when somebody doesn't have the most dexterous hands (because of a disability for example), they won't hurt themselves and the pieces are pretty even!

  • @ghostathan
    @ghostathan 5 лет назад +5

    the onion holders my favorite! it bothers me when it falls apart and i cant get the hang of the cool way of cutting it with the root intact. the kiwi peeler seems really pricey for a tiny single use item and the knife that comes with it seems more of an eyecatch thing.

  • @PamelaProPeace
    @PamelaProPeace 5 лет назад +38

    If you tip the kiwi pieces into a bowl instead of onto the cutting board you would save the juice! 😄😄 I think it looks great - really works! (Kiwis are a pain to peel!)
    I love the onion one! No more chasing the onion slices across the board. And such neat little pieces!

    • @PamelaProPeace
      @PamelaProPeace 5 лет назад +2

      p.s. in Israel a very popular salad dish is cucumbers and tomatoes chopped into tiny squares ... people pride themselves on how small the squares can be. 😄 The onion comb would be brilliant for making this salad.

    • @DarkParacord
      @DarkParacord 5 лет назад +3

      If you’re lazy like me you can totally leave the pieces in it’s skin and drink the juices after finishing the pieces! Save you from another dish to wash 😂

    • @mitchellgardner2193

      The easiest way to peel kiwi's is with a spoon, just cut off the sides of the kiwi where the stem was (both sides), stick the spoon under the skin, hold the kiwi firmly and twist the spoon, it takes off only the skin and doesn't waste any fruit or juice.

  • @erinuber2881
    @erinuber2881 5 лет назад +3

    I love the kitchen gadget videos! I had a citrus peeler in the past, and I loved it. The onion cutting guide can be handy for other things, as Satoshi was describing - including tomatoes, mushrooms, hard-boiled eggs, etc. If you really want to make waffle-cut fries at home, I recommend getting an inexpensive mandoline cutter, with a hand guard. You can also use it for other things. It will be safer, too! Thanks for the great video, and see you at the livestream!

  • @HayTatsuko
    @HayTatsuko 5 лет назад

    8:59 I am sorry to say that I had to laugh at the tone of your reaction there. I had a feeling that issue was coming. That thing looks really dangerous! Hope you will be all healed up soon, Shinichi! I think the really big problem with that tool is threefold: it needs to have a deeper cut, it needs to be sharper to deal with tough things like carrots and potatoes, and it needs a guard of some sort -- if that is possible! -- so that you don't get waffle-cut fingers if the darned thing slips.
    I think that the onion holder would be great for dicing, too -- just make a few cuts parallel with the tabletop, in towards the tines, and voila! Diced! That's definitely the best gadget of the lot! I wouldn't ever use the kiwi cutter for myself because I eat the skins, but I can see it being really handy in preparing lots of kiwi for others.
    Great video, guys!

    I have that orange bird! I've had it for a few years now. Bought it from a 100 yen store when they had an online shop. It wasn't daiso, but something like daiso. The wing actually comes off to peel and stores on the bird. So you could have two people peeling their oranges at the same time. I think it might also be good for children because it's not as sharp as a knife.
    These gadget reviews are fun! :D

  • @RockScissorsPaperPress
    @RockScissorsPaperPress 5 лет назад +1

    I love these gadget test videos! I think they would make a fun livestream.
    One of my Australian friends told me people in New Zealand ate the kiwi, skin and all, and when I went to New Zealand this year, I saw their had a lot less fuzz and thinner skin. If I can get New Zealand kiwis, I'll gladly eat it with the skin! Delicious! I wonder if the peeler would work better if you braced the vegetable against the cutting board and peeled from the top down--maybe the peeler would be able to get a better bite into the vegetable. Might be too much of a high hope, though. ;) I like the onion tool for holding onions crosswise. Slicing anything with just my hand to hold it is easy enough, but sometimes holding an onion in the opposite direction for a small dice is harder because the slices sometimes slide around, especially as you get farther through the onion.

    • @allybeetulk1457
      @allybeetulk1457 5 лет назад

      I am a New Zealander (or kiwi as we say casually 😂) and I have never seen anybody eat rhe skin of a kiwifruit (because kiwis are the people or bird, we call them kiwifruit here). I think your Australian friend lied to you.... Which would make a lot of sense. We like to. Ake jokes about each other.

    The way to avoid crying when you cut onions is to cut off an end of the onion, and put it on your head. If you worry about the smell on your hair, use a piece of paper towel on your head.
    This is an old Mexican trick for keeping from crying.
    It works.

    I think the veggie holder/slicer is better for making slices even, rather than just for holding it.
    The kiwi cutter looks like you should have a glass nearby to pour the juice into after cutting it.
    Orange peeler didn't seem THAT much better than just using a knife.
    The waffle cutter was just too small. Even a relatively small potato was too big for it. If it was 2-3 times wider it would have been a lot better in my opinion.

      Many many years ago I had a plastic ring with the sharp hook on the outside of the ring and it was terrific for cutting through the peel. (The peeling was easily done with the hands.) Sadly it got mislaid and I couldn't find a replacement.
      On my last visit to Japan I found them in the 100 yen store and brought them back as gifts for my now grown-up kids. They were delighted with them. Now I am going to have to look for the bird one on my next trip 😄

    What's up with the bald kiwi, lol... the skin of the kiwi is actually totally edible and provides extra fiber. I don't even bother with cutting them anymore. I just eat the whole thing in two bites. A mandolin is a much better investment for waffle cuts. Love the onion holder tho.

  • @AnnaReed42
    @AnnaReed42 5 лет назад

    "It's still hurting my eyes. Any gadget for that?"
    Goggles... Or just use a sharper knife! A dull knife mashes open those cells of onion juice as you cut. A sharp knife cuts more cleanly for less juice and fewer tears.
    I also peel my halved onion under cold running water, which helps, and if I'm chopping a lot of onions at once, I'll transfer the chopped onions to a bowl periodically and rinse the cutting board and knife between chopping each onion.
    That onion holder doesn't produce perfectly diced onion because you don't make any lateral cuts (parallel to the cutting board). If you want a perfect dice or mince, leave the root end of the halved onion intact. Make lateral cuts in the onion, but don't go all the way through to the root. Then make slicing cuts like you would with the onion holder, still leaving the root intact. The onion should hold together pretty well as you turn your knife 90° and slice down to create perfectly diced onion.
