  • NBA Top 40 dunks: Michael Jordan vs Kobe Bryant
Who's the greatest? Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant? His Airness or the Kobester? #23 or #24?
Lots of people are still arguing with eachothers trying to find the right answer. But regarding the dunk area, which one was the best?
One unleashed the "rock the cradle" dunk. The other has made the baseline windmill jam his dunk signature. Both are known for their incredible athletic skills.
Here are 40 dunks (21 for Kobe & 19 for Jordan) that every player would like to add in his résumé.
You can argue with the order but I think the very best dunks from these two players are in this top 40.
So which one is/was the greatest dunker? Air Jordan ord Black Mamba? You can watch now...make your choice!

the more I see Kobe dunks, the more I think they look slam dunk contest dunks ... man Kobe did windmills front side ,baselines, reverse , facials so on and so on. dude is a beast and to think he had one of his greatest years with a broken finger and to torn ligaments in his shooting hand for basically 2 years and still putting up numbers . Going to miss you Kobe but ThankGod for RUclips...

MJ and Kobe were both all time greats. Some MJ fans act as if Jordan invented basketball. If Kobe wasn't so good they would ignore him. Instead many attack his game because he's the only player whose game is close to MJ. MJ set a high standard. Kobe has come close to that standard. I think they both can be appreciated for their greatness.

Kobe Bryant is the second best basketball player I've ever seen. And Lebron doesn't fit into this conversation at all, any way shape or how. Kobe and MJ were dominant forces of nature, each was the undisputed best player in the league for a decade. They tried to say lebron was better than Kobe when he hit the league. But no.
Kobe is the best clutch shooter of all time. Better than curry. Curry can shoot 3s better of course. But clutch? Its Kobe, and that's just a taste of what he could do

Kobe is probably one of the most underrated in-game dunkers of all time. When the players signature dunk is a baseline reverse that is usually done with 1 or more players contesting the shot, you know that player a hell of a dunker.

They were both equally spectacular. The one thing MJ had was those hands, able to fully control the ball, bring it way fro the defender and then back to slam it home. He was also a greater pure leaper. But Kobe had incredible body control and equal flair.

Everything Kobe had MJ had and more. The Fadeaway Jump shot that no other NBA player has been able to make look as graceful, not even Kobe. nobody could palm the ball like mj. that one hand magnet style made him tell the ball what to do and gave him somuch more second of thinking(playing time) up in that air. Kobe was a beast Yes! but even though he tried to master Jordans style growing up, its like he ran outta time before he came into hs=is own mastering his own style just using his Jordan mimic as training. U can see by looking at how he tried to master the one hand palm but never just , quite, quite got it. You can see him tuck it but it isnt it. But it still works and helped Kobe be a master. Jordan just made it look so easy and he looked so light out there. like he wasnt even playing a sport. from the way he jumpped then in mid air would just hit "next level please" and shoot up even higher. By the way the ball looked like it was glued to his hand , he used and mastered the air force. he would get up there rock around and just throw it in so light like clean like! 😜🤪😝

He was extremely strong, not only compared to Kobe but virtually compared to ANY guard ever played the league with the exception of Magic Johnson who's size (and skill) was extraordinary. That said of course Kobe is as skilled as possible, but MJ has MUCH harder defences (90-93 Knicks, 87-90 Pistons and Boston, etc.). Playing with Pistons MJ many times choose to go for a lay-up just to avoid an injury (from Lambeer & Co).
In my opinion the most stunning dunk (and move) is the dunk on Ewing after he escapes from a 'trap', the explosion and power are unequal (Especially judging the timing... Another dunk that is amazing IMHO is no 37 at Miami. The height at which Jordan gets the ball is unreal, seriously, UNREAL.
ADDENDUM: A couple of notes... Many commenters here state that Bryant was more explosive... That's the camera. I don't know where the OP got his angles from, but watching the same MJ dunks on 'real time' gives you a better view of the 'real explosion'. Again the above-mentioned dunk on Ewing, it's EXTREMELY explosive if you watch it in real time (from the time of his elevation to the time his foots touch the ground). Bryant had this windmill side dunk which gave him these impressional dunks but again, the two are not even comparable IMHO... MJ both as a dunker, defender and overall player is on another level.

I noticed two things from this video:
    1) Jordan's hands really allowed dunks Kobe couldn't do--particularly "Statue of Liberty" type dunks. Kobe can't emulate Dr. J's plays. There was no Jordan without Dr. J.
    2) Jordan jumped higher...in general. I already knew that, but it's kind of obvious side-to-side.

You should do more looking. Jordan dunked on Ewing, Mourning, Mutombo, Bol, Eaton (3 in one game on him the year Eaton set the single season Block record), Shaq, Olaujuwon, Barkley, Robinson, Bird, Magic, Malone, Wilkins, Willis, Kareem, Rodman, Laimbeer, Nance, Hot Rod Williams, Artis Gilmore, Mcdaniel, list goes on and on. Dunking on centers routinely. Taking MJ here with zero doubt.

I don't think we would ever come to an agreement regarding who was better between Jordan and Kobe!!!!...TBH Jordan had it made!!! The team the coach and the advantage of being ahead of his time!!!with Kobe on the other hand Had too earn his stripes to be the best!!!.. what you need to understand is that Kobe had the willpower and heart... As for Jordan you said it yourself the guy was born lucky... Kobe never had luck but the skills to do so...era of Jordan was totally different from now whether you say back then was more fouls less rules more real... Despite of that as times change basketball as a sport evolves maybe not as real as how it use to be but I can assure you this the players become better with newer moves newer styles...players become more evolved into modern times so having said that....I feel with in the times that have changed..Kobe Bryant took it to next level with modern tactics that made him the newer and better Jordan...

When Kobe dunks people say "WOW and Damn!!"
When MJ dunks people say " HOW DID HE DO THAT??"
Kobe does some incredible dunks, but MJ makes dunks look incredible. Some of you will get what I'm saying in a few years. But anyway point blank, I've seen Mike do some version of all Kobe's dunks, I've yet to see Kobe rock the cradle or kiss the sky. But Nice Video nonetheless!

Now you're just making things up, you can look anywhere about dunking comparisons and you'd see that what kobe has over Jordan would be the much more variety of dunks. And that people saying "how did he do that " Is more on because of Jordan's elevation, he was flying. And Kobe's dunk was creative as he didn't have Jordan's hands and elevation, he couldn't get on top of defenders

Kobe's dunks are indeed more 'forceful', 'rugged', 'more challenging', 'more dynamic/dramatic'... but I'm not sure it's more stylish, Jordan's style is more pure and natural, and that is due to Jordan having a better drive to the basket, so smooth and fluid. Like the one announcer said, he beautifully dismisses his defender and drives in for a flying dunk of pure gravity defiance, while kobe's dunks seem to be designed specifically to be one step ahead of jordan! and he succeeds on that front!

Me personally I like both. They both are great dunkers but for me I would take Jordan. He just has that finesse and smoothness in my eyes.I don't care for him much especially after knowing his opinions are remarks about his shoes and poor inner city kids buying them. However, that's something god and him only knows but the guy just had something special you just can't deny! It's just like he was born to do it instead of something he learned or was taught or studied. He was ORIGINAL!

Kobe has a different atyle with his dunks. He's a harder dunker and he has his nice up and under reverse and his 360s but I think MJ's were better. He would clearly jump above his defenders and dunk on them. I also think his contest dunks were better than Kobe's but Kobe has some finesse.
