I've been trying to figure out why all my store bought plants did this. I've spent months trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much for this video!!!!
Him: Anubias is one of the easiest to take care of
Me with a melting Nana: 😐
Same 😂
@Kellan Lance that’s illegal and also a scam lol
Did you burry the stem?
@@benoitlevesque9609 I had it in medium sized pebbles (bc that was all I had) and it survived for around 2 years until I buried the leaves as well, and now the new growth is melting. Originally, I did bury the roots- just make sure that you have smaller grain sizes and it is sturdily in there so you don't end up breaking any of its roots.
@@elithewholeshebang that would be why it is rotting, anubias are to be placed onto rocks or wood with glue or string. they get most their nutrients from the water column so the rhyzome cant be buried
Honestly thought i was doing something terribly wrong as my amazon sword leaves were melting. Thank you so much for clarifying.
Same! I think this came a bit late though... Idk if my Sword will survive.
haha same😂😂I was freaking out this whole evening when I saw my amazon sword plant starts to turning transparency!! I search information and bought the root tabs and worry it gonna die soon! Now I think it will be saved
best video ever, because it explains the most "beginners faults" !
I have a crypt that almost completely melted when I first put it in my tank I thought it was ruined, so I let it sit and now it’s one of the most thriving plants in my tank putting up multiple leaves!
how long did it take to bounce back
@@tigerfordinner it took a about a week and slowly started growing back. Just be patient the plants need time to acclimate to a new tank. (Use root tabs every 3-4 months and your crypts will thrive)
Omg, I was about to throw all my plants out ... I m new & still learning 😘 thank you for this awesome video
This is by far the best video explaining Aquatic plants. I really appreciate the explanation and will be ordering plants soon. Thank you so much,
Dave
thank you. I've watched a hundred beginner plant videos and listened to people talk about this literally for hours. your lets get right to the point & hands on examples are awesome. it's easy to see. and makes a lot of sense.
Hey Justin,
Great video man! I needed this!
I had some melting plants!
_Keep up the good work!_
*Thumbs up!*
Thanks for the info. I threw out new melting plants because I thought they were no good. Now I know better.
Your videos are so helpful and in detail and give so much good information and “peace of mind” to people getting into planted tanks
I wish I'd watched this before I planted! What makes me laugh is that I know to cut back plants being transplanted when I'm gardening above ground- why didn't occur to me you might need to do so for underwater plants?!
Thank you for this video. I just started an aquarium and have the problems you talked about. I just couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong and it frustrated the hell out of me. You just got a new customer.
Ugh, I feel so much better about my plants now. Thank you so much, I just finished trimming them before and got worried. Great video👍
THANK YOU! I just found my new plant totally melted and thought I'd messed up...it's so good to know it was going to happen and not to worry. The roots are looking so healthy I was totally confused! Fingers crossed it will grow new leaves quickly and look even prettier than it did when it arrived 😊
Finally! Thank you! A video that actually shows and demonstrates melting and what to do about it
Excellent information. I feel like you looked into my tank and answered all of my questions.
Enjoyed this video so much! Thank you!
good topic Justin! info I needed to know
Love this video. Thank you. So helpful.
Enjoyed watching! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks a lot for the explanation of melting translucent plants!
Good solid advice for even the most plant challenged...thanks!😄👍🏼🌱
Thank you! I don't feel so bad having trimmed off everything thats been dying. I did it once now and was worried. This was the information I needed to attempt this a second time.
I've started thinking of you as the aquarium plant wizard...
Nice video it’s good to see some new.
Thank you for the GREAT info.
I am new to the hobby but half of my plants melted lol, thank you for this video :)
THANK YOU. Been trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong... now I'm pretty sure I know.
SUBSCRIBED... BIG BIG BIG THUMBS-UP.
I wish that I had seen this video. Ten day's ago I removed £45-£50 of plant's from my new aging tank, they were only 5 days old and looked dead so I didn't want them to rot and put toxins into my new tanks water so I binned them! One or two of them had really small green shoots but I thought that if I kept them they would do more harm than good staying in the tank. I was left with 3 plant's! Now they have wilted and gone brown but on closer observation they have tiny shoots that look healthy. I now know how to treat the problem after watching your video.
No need to ask if I have subscribed I can't afford not to subscribe lol.
Thank you for sharing your video, take care my friend 👍😷👍
This is very helpful .Thank you
Thank goodness I found this video!! I spent a lot of money buying live plants for my aquarium, and I was devastated when I saw that they were melting. This video showed me that I have nothing to worry about 😁
At last some great advice!!
I have all my plants in rooting cups that way their roots can grow out and the foliage can grow up, and it is easier when cleaning my tanks with plants. Also, like in hydroponics, I can trim the roots back to cause more growth on the top. It works like a darn, Merry Christmas.
Very Informative. Thx. Although I did have 1 plant that never shot up a new leaf, even though I did cut off the melting leaves.
WOW! Had no idea. Thanks!
You have saved me from my worries. I sub.
I've learned that it is absolutely true that when you have a plant like that little pygmy that is just a tiny guy after plucking that it is legit going to grow so much better! most of my little guys became the top dogs of my aqua scape lol
I've been wondering why my swords grow looking differently from the big sturdy looking ones in a lot of product photos. I had never read, watched, or otherwise realized that submerged leaves just grow a little more translucent naturally, so it's great to know it's not just something I'm doing wrong.
Another fab vid...👏🌱
gardening show at its best many thanks
Very good info. I'm new with live plants so there is still alot of learning I need to do. But I'm not afraid to put a plant in the tank k and see how it does.
Wow, the number of aquarium plants I’ve tossed that were probably fine, just adjusting! Thanks, this helped immensely.
I spent this morning confused as heck that my new plant just melted but the roots are doing great. I had no choice about removing the leaves, they just fell off with the smallest touch. I'm relieved to find it's normal, not me being rubbish!
Should i remove partially melted leaves, or just leave em and hope they bounce back. Great vids btw.
Thank u, it helps me to save my plants.
Very informative!
Thank you. I just got a bunch of Anubis’s barteri mother plant and leaves started to look bad and I got worried. Thanks a bunch!!
Can I do this with my Vallisneria too?
Make a video called " how to grow plants emmersed" and the best to do it...I want to do a plant room like you
They don't talk about this alot. Thanx good info
Great video, mom taught about house plants so I just apdated from that.
Does temperature effect plants. I am American living in Taiwan. I bought water lettuce and all I has was roots left over. However all the other plants that I bought at the same store are great.
The water temperature is usually 30 degrees C.
good video as always would like to see a stem plant version mine seam to melt at the bottom of the stem were in put it in the substrate
Joey Greigg I am struggling with the same thing.
chronic fishkeeping yup same here my cabombas keep melting on the bottom part of the stem but they grow really fast
Haha when you said “it may not make much sense, but this little one is better.” I’m looking at my once tall luscious plants that are now baby stubs and saying “OH BRO... I get it. Trust me” 🤣
Great video! Very very good indeed! Can you do a video on crypt melt?
Great video learned a lot. Any advice on getting a thick lush planted tank? Do you have to co2?
Thanks mate!
What if your stems and roots are melting? Having problems adding Ludwigia repens.
"The aquarium plant whisperer" ✌🐟
very clear info...
I sure need to view your videos. I am an orchid enthusiast and so I chose live plants for my new aquarium(s). Whew...what a challenge. So many are melting away even the most hardy. Is this EVER good for an aquarium? Or is it always bad....rising ammonia?
Is it better to try to get roots on those that can be put in a vase or whatever?
do you have any advice for banana plant care, and how to deal with a melting banana plant? I had a healthy banana plant melt first all of its leaves, and then the tubers got melty, and then plant death, after I moved my aquarium and the roots all got dislodged out of the soil.
I had a Crack in one of my tanks so I decided to remove all the water from it. I had some crypt wendtii in the tank and even though I removed all the large plants , there were still some small ones in there. I let the substrate dry for months and finally went to empty the tank when I noticed some small nodes in the substrate. They did not have any leaves. Only few dried up roots and a node. I was curious so planted them in my new setup.
Fast forward to 2 weeks and they are now growing new leaves! Ironically, My other extremely healthy, emersed grown crypts are melting while these are thriving.
Hi I planted 5 days ago. Some of my plants have curly leaves and small holes, especially the amazon swords and java fern, what should i do? please advise...
Thank you for the great information. Can the same process happen with a plant from one tank to another where the water chemistry might be slightly different. I moved some Java fern (over a year old) to another tank and it started to melt/now it has tons of brown pinholes
I allow my plants to melt. Idk much about aquatic plants, but regular plants will pull stored nutrients and yellow as they use them up as new growth forms.
Thanks
How do we properly acclimate immerse to submerse.
I loose quite a few Anubis during the acclamation.
I'm having this issue with my crypts. I've had them in a bucket for a few weeks. couldn't put them in my new tank as my cabinet that came with it was damaged.
I was actually looking forward to a little dieback to make the tank mature faster. (I have either sewellias, or butterfly loaches, both need matured tanks to thrive) but unfortunately mine really didn't die back much at all. But that's Ok, because a few months down the road my tank became wonderfully matured.
My jungle Val is releasing many runners but the existing levels are melting and growing new leaves regularly. But the leaves are not staying up. Plants are in pots in gravel
hey man. I am.new to the hobby and I have sub you. probably a silly question but without taking my sword out the substrate and breaking of the old leaves at root can I just cut the stem as far down as I can get with my sisscors or does it need to be right off at base?
many many thanks
I love your videos, you really seem to know your stuff and I've learned a lot of useful information from you. Having said that, there is really no excuse for that beard not being incorporated into your logo.
Followed. Being trying to find ways to keep my plants alive and never got a good answer. Have good light, substrate and temp, a little high nitrate but everything else seems right. Plants still turn brown and melt even annubias. I guess i just have to be patient and cut them off. What does it mean though when it starts to have holes in leaves?
I have dying browning leave with holes in em. Can u talk about it. Plz
How do you know which plants go directly into the substrate and which to glue or tie to rocks?
Hello, I love the video.
I purchased a banana plant from pet smart about 6months ago and It did well for the first 4months but now as soon as a new leaf grows one of the other recent leaves die and all the leaves have brown dots. There is currently 4 small leaves about 1cm and I does with fertz. I also have a bundle of Java fern that I purchased from you that is doing great 👍
Also my friend had the exact same problem about 1 month ago but his totally died.
Sounds like a deficiency. No idea how to test NPK in a tank though.
Plants in enclosed quarters have chemical warfare going on. They have the ability to totally kill each other if that's what they think it takes to rule the tank. Next time, put your banana plant all by itself. They don't rule much in the big tank. Same with baby tears. Some plants choose to exist together and some do not.
But what do you do if your Elodea Anacharis in in a perpetual translucent melt? Like it's clearly growing, and the new growth usually starts looking healthy but quickly starts going translucent.
Hi i bought water wisteria and some plants and i think i have diatom bloom allnleaves are covered with brown algae. Please help. I uprooted some and they are all rooted
what is the best soil for growing plants?
I was changing tanks and had my Anubias out of water for longer than I should have. I had the roots in water, but I only misted the leaves with a spray bottle maybe once every 30 min. The leaves began to curl, but when I finally was able to get them back into the tank they spread back out. Now, a couple of days later, the leaves are getting brown spots. What can I do?
It think it has more to do with how long your water set itself up before you plant anything plus what substrate you are using. As well lighting. If the lights are too covered with floating plants then what's below gets no light. I use a plastic tube pushed into itself to make a ring. They float and keep the floating plants in place plus let's light hit the soil. Lastly make sure the plant has enough room for its roots to grow out from. Too much too close together and they will not survive. I get plants with long big leaves and they never melt. It's the little stick trees I have issues with. Any advice on those?
I’m trying to grow a carpet of Monte Carlo emersed. Dose the same thing apply if it melts? It’s been in for a week or so and I have a lot of melting. I’m using potting soil with a top layer of small rocks. With a fluval plant light 24” in a 20 long. Please let me know I don’t want to waste the money. If I can save these plants I would be quite happy.
can i acclimate plants by putting it in a Specimen holder container & letting little amount of tank water enter slowly?
Great info. i pluck them and i get plucked. . :-(
Do you have to pull them off out of water? Or can you snip them off while they're under water?
I added duckweed to an established tank because I've been trying to convert it to a tank that requires no (or less) water changes. The problem is now all the stem plants are melting while my vals have just stopped growing. So what now? Is it that the duckweed is sucking up all the nutrients? Or maybe blocking the light? I don't want to lose my stem plants :(
I have a question do you also remove the ones that is browning??
The melting can release nitrogen and cause parameter spikes, right?
Glad i went with my gut and left my melted plants in the tank. They sent out new growth after a while and i was able to save them. I feel better knowing this wasn't my fault lol.
Anubis is the easiest plant to care of….. Mine melted off my hand when I did a water change after a week.
Man.... I have a new aquarium (is that the name? I'm not an English speaker) and some of my new plants were starting to turn translucid but I was noticing that a new leaf was growing. I was all sad and all... then I saw your video. I took off all the transparent leaves and I hope a lot of new ones shows up.
I want to buy some plants from you but according to this video then all your plants are immersed grown? or submmerse
Does aqarium heaters make your plants melt or turn brown.
Hiii so sorry to bother you. Do you have a similar vid but for stem plants instead? My usually more demanding stem plants keep growing and when i trim them, the bottoms just keep dying and rotting away. At some point the rotting became faster than the growth so it just dies :(
stem of my pothos is melting. What should i do?
This is why crypts will always be my favorite. They are almost always propagated fully submersed in little pots and you don't have to worry about any of this! I recently bought a tall aquarium and am looking for tall plants. Maybe Amazon swords and stem plants. Basically it sounds like you are saying they are going to melt regardless. That's a great tip. When plant shopping I'll opt for the cheaper baby ones and ones with new growth like you've shown here.
What? Crypts are notooooorious for melting 😅
Thank god I searched for this!! I'll just have to let it ride through the hardship
How much do you sell your plant for and how can I get some from you
I have small carpet plants but i cannot remember the name and they are melting to the point that there are almost no more leves or even plant visible. Is this still normal or is my plant dead?
Should've seen this before hand lol
