Another error I see new people making is when they plant plants and then 2 days later they are vacuuming the substrate right up to the stem of the plant. This in effect removes any nutrients that are available to the roots of the plant.

No and no the only reason to quarantine a plant is if it has a pest problem and you don’t want them on your other plants so you would quarantine it untill the pests are gone. Plants are resilient they will adjust but that’s why he says he has 1 successful plant to every 3 plants

Hi! Just an FYI the lovely houseplant you shown and stated it's a narrow leaf philodendrun. I’ve killed a plant because I left the container open and forgot to put it in the water when I got home. All my other plants experience little to no melt upon introduction. Anacharis (plant individually and immediately), dwarf sag, java fern, Anubias nana and the like. I even plant peace lilies in my tanks straight from the garden and they day greet as long as there are enough nutrients. I will say that there are some water edge plants that I got from the local creek. They are ground coverering plants that look like penny wart or tiny round circle leaves straight from a little vine. While collecting Moss I uprooted quite a few of these nearby and planted them in a new aquarium. The plants were odd looking and hard to lay down in the substrate. Much of them started melting leaf down so I clipped them to prevent mess and brand new aquatic leaves started sprouting from the nodes! It is really interesting that plants have this adaptation to produce foliage suited to a new environment. I imagine removing the plants and putting it back in the patch I found it would cause the current foliage to die back and the plant would attempt to produce land foliage once again. Neat!

Awesome video. There is so much truth to everything you've said in this video! I hate seeing people make the same mistakes I've made in the past. Btw, nice tanks in the background!
He's absolutely right. After a plant has been set somewhere, in or out of water; the plant needs time to adjust. It just does. Often times for example when you purchase a plant which is flowering, you'll observe all too soon, that the buds drop off. Tell-tale sign that Mr. Plant needs time. And it really doesn't matter where the move is to. All bought plants need time. They may do nothing for a long while, or the plant may actually die. Just be careful with it the best you can. Water plants are no different, maybe a little fussier. Look into all the things that make this transition successful. One thing about each type of plant; when eventually you notice new-baby growth - relax. It sometimes can be quite a long period before you know one way or the other. So have patience.
I got a 5 gal. tank in Dec. and I'm going to a 10, hate to move the plants already. I'm going to use the same gravel and water in the new tank, hopefully that helps.

I'm just starting with plants for my aquarium. I was going to start a new larger aquarium for my betta and the plants got here before the aquarium. Should I put the plants in my 5 gallon without proper substrate and then move it when the aquarium gets here, leave them in the paper towels they came in or something else? I have a 55 gallon tank which houses 2 Black Moors, one 3 year old and one smaller one I purchased in May of this year. It has a bare bottom and is void of decorations. I recently bought 3 plants to add to the tank. I used 3 small terracotta pots that I had with some small gravel to hold them in place. I did not remove the sponge wrapping from the bottom of the plants because I was trying to keep everything in place, otherwise they were separating at the root and I thought this would cause problems with anchoring in. I washed everything in plain cool water, but within hours 2 smaller fish that I had purchased last week to help with tank cleaning died. Then my Black Moors started acting strangely. I removed all the plants. At this time I believe it was a chemical on the pots or in the gravel. I placed the plants in a different pot, removed the sponge wrappings from the bottom and placed them all in a small tub of water. I would like to add these plants back in once my 2 Black Moors recover but I want to anchor them in with something safe and simple. What would be your suggestion?
I am about to start a walstad aquarium Anyone, what all plants will be good for it? Can I put newly arrived emersed grown grown plant directly to the newly established aquarium and hope it to do well? Can I heavily hardscape the aquarium?
started to work with a planted tank this year :/ my first anubias took a whole month before becoming established...all the leaves melted away and it freaked me out lol but then new leaves came out. I was honestly debating on pulling it out or cutting it. so glad I waited cause it's doing a lot better now lol still small though, but its only been about 2 months
A lot of plants leaves are grown outside of the water so they will melt under water then produce underwater leaves. If you then took that plant with underwater leaves and raised it above water, those underwater leaves will melt and it will produce different leaves.
Many thanks for tips one question I have a large shark who has shredded the leaves of my large plant is it worth leaving them alone or cutting them out when leaves are shredded by fish eating plants thanks

I'd like to more about the science of carbon absorption by plants. Have high nitrates in my 1.5 year old tank with two gigantic swords, jungle val, and a moss ball, Java Fern. Plants love it I think, but how much are they consuming?? I know any processes depends on lighting, and other water parameters, but at what point are we more hurting our aquatic fish/inverts than helping our plants?
Sir can i add live plants in my single tinfoil barb tank? Will they eat the plants? Please note that my tinfoil is very small and only 2 inches in size Plz reply fast

2. Part was so inportant for me... Especially end.
Hi ... do we have to change the water during those waiting time?
No need to if there r only plants (better to put then first to root). U change it according to what u find when testing water, in regard to the animal bioload, if there is any.
Hi Justin, Your my go-to for all plant info but would like to see a video on aquarium stargrass.
I got hornwort in the mail yesterday. After 15 hours in my indoor pond tub all the leaves fell off the hornwort. So frustrating! I skimmed out the leaves and left the naked hornwort branches. Will it recover? Great video!
H2O Plants , that’s great news, thanks!
If I have a tank that already has a fish in and fake plant and want to add new ones live plants can I do that?

Starting a new tank with a under gravel filter any tips on which plants to try with it?
I'm just starting with plants for my aquarium. I was going to start a new larger aquarium for my betta and the plants got here before the aquarium. Should I put the plants in my 5 gallon without proper substrate and then move it when the aquarium gets here, leave them in the paper towels they came in or something else? I got a Water Sprite and a Anubias nana. I heard their great beginners.
How did it go with the Anubias? I'm thinking of getting one for my betta
I just "stumbled" upon your channel!! * I feel so blessed I did!!* All your videos are very informational, quick and to the point! NEW SUBSCRIBER!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Thanks for the tips... Aquascape noob here! ✌
Edit: subbed.
Patience is a virtue for sure! Great info!
It applies in tanks also!
Lately my plants are dying off and cannot figure out why. New plants do what you're saying, wilt down and start new stems... but then just die off. :-( I dose Seachem Flourish and Flourish Iron a cap full of each, but on alternate days. What would be killing the plants???????
hi Justin, I'm fairly new to aqua plants and your channel, looking forward to seeing all your videos. Thanks
how many gallons are the cube tanks and what is the light?
HI WHAT DO YOU DO WITH AQURIUM PLANTS TO KILL SNAILS BEFORE PUTTING IN AQUARIUM. THANK YOU
I have a 55 gallon tank which houses 2 Black Moors, one 3 year old and one smaller one I purchased in May of this year.
Great information definitely put me at ease for at least a month 👌🏻
I am about to start a walstad aquarium
Anyone, what all plants will be good for it?
Can I put newly arrived emersed grown grown plant directly to the newly established aquarium and hope it to do well?
Can I heavily hardscape the aquarium?
Hope ur still doing what you do. Would like to see some new content.
started to work with a planted tank this year :/ my first anubias took a whole month before becoming established...all the leaves melted away and it freaked me out lol but then new leaves came out. I was honestly debating on pulling it out or cutting it. so glad I waited cause it's doing a lot better now lol still small though, but its only been about 2 months
They can take a long time at first then suddenly take off & grow like crazy mine did at least
A lot of plants leaves are grown outside of the water so they will melt under water then produce underwater leaves. If you then took that plant with underwater leaves and raised it above water, those underwater leaves will melt and it will produce different leaves.
Very helpful. Thanks a lot!
Many thanks for tips one question I have a large shark who has shredded the leaves of my large plant is it worth leaving them alone or cutting them out when leaves are shredded by fish eating plants thanks
I just learned that new leaves on sword plants (or at least on Ozelot) are brown! I’m new to aquarium plants and I just cut a brown leaf off a sword in my tank because I thought it was dead. Oy!! Thank you for a great video!
Please note that my tinfoil is very small and only 2 inches in size
