Very informative videos. Thanks for all the info that you ve shared until now.
I have a question though. I ve bought a 2018 Honda Civic 1.6 I-dtec last year. I wanted a diesel because living in Germany I travel quite a bit. I am aware that you're not into diesels but I must ask now that Honda is pulling out from Europe. Did I make a mistake buying a Honda?
PS . I ve trade in a Passat Tdi 2003 for it.
Scotty, can you please tell me why van conversions for handicap people are so damn expensive? My mom wants a van that she can drive her scooter into so she can go places. The cars I’m looking at are double the price of the car itself?????
We love u

Slap a touch screen stereo and LED headlights on it and it will be like new!
i think its mostly because the 20 year old cars that arent nice are already dead crushed and recycled
@@Asstronauts93 yes that might be true but thats only for people who don't take car of their cars. My dad has a 87 Toyota pickup and a 84 Celica gt that still run strong and my 97 Chevy and 97 Sonoma still drive better than my sister's 2 year old DI engine.
@@notlNSIGHT Yeah, but all the safety tech in the world can't help you if you're a reckless driver. Safety begins in the head.
Yep... Too much electronics
It's Mick Foley!
Don't see the resemblance beyond the beard - although I do frequently dress in lumberjack flannel shirts, lol
HAVE A NICE DAY
I thought the same things.
Misses Foley's baby boy got himself a Aviator. I got a mkZ.
First thing I thought when I saw him! Lol
Just so u know.
That V8 is not a run of the mill 4.6
It's the DOHC 32 valve 4.6 that was built for the Cobra Mustang... nice ride
It's not the exact same as the cobra motor but it is very similar
My sister in law had the mountaineer with a v8. It was tons of fun and got decent fuel mileage
I believe it’s the same motor just modified for the Lincoln
Mercury Marauder also had the 4 valve 4.6 liter. My Mountaineer (2006) has the 3 valve.
Not exactly 🕵️♂️ Watson. While it is a high performance v8 Mustang engine in the Aviator, it’s not the Cobra v8. I’ve got an ‘04 Aviator, and it’s the same engine as the Mustang Mach 1’s of the time. They did that to go along with the Aviator’s aviation inspired name and theme. Still even though it’s not the Cobra, it’s still a badass engine, and it sounds great.
I own a 2004 and I love it. It truly is a beast. She's really thirsty, too!
Whats it like
How many mpg
Love this! Just bought a beautiful 2004 gold Aviator with only 110k for $2,500. One owner. I love it!!!
looks better on inside than many 2019 vehicles
SERIOUSLY!! I told someone this yesterday
The term luxury gets thrown around too much. Luxury is reliability and no money out of pocket.
I agree
Somebody just stole your comment.
@vince orr albert Land rover , Jaguar and Porsche
Tony Montana, Reliability is awesome 😎 Like my 06 Toyota Highlander...
Good thing the aviator is super reliable and luxurious!
I just picked one up 2005 with 120k miles and it's pretty amazing for the year the motor is awesome. Interior is great as well 👍
That Lincoln is in fantastic shape.
"Maybe". You can keep it clean inside and garage kept, but what sends these to the grave in northern climates is usually underbody rust. They can look good as new on the outside and it's a darn shame that Ford didn't do more about rust prevention on $50K (in early '00's money) class vehicle.
@@stinkycheese804
Good point. I have been in the Southwest for so many years I keep forgetting about rust problems. We just don't see it. When we do see it, my technicians freak out and don't know what to do, haha.
This was awesome! My 05 Aviator has 277k miles on it and DOES NOT QUIT! I’ve driven it through about three and a half feet of flood waters with a boat on the back and four passengers and it would not quit! Quick for a big suv, and I’ve had seven full sized adults in it for many road trips and it is very comfortable. I’be only had minor problems and maintenance engine and transmission are STRONG and original. I’d rather drive it over my BMW 650 ANY DAY!! Awesome review!!!!!
I love my 2000 Lincoln Navigator. 210,000 miles and runs like a charm. I use it for work and get the same gas mileage when pulling tons of weight.
Lincoln is so underrated. I didn’t notice how underrated they are until I bought one
What do you mean? Every other vehicle on the road is a Lincoln!
@@RC51Legend that was before when I first bought one but 9 months later that’s all I see is lincoln

Traded an ‘06 Expedition for an ‘05 Escalade. Learning experience, to say the least. Fords are such great vehicles. Just wished they used better quality material for the body that didn’t rust so easily. Otherwise, those Ford engines-amazing.
Me too lol
This channel really makes new cars appear boring!
New cars ARE boring. Newness wears off in under 6 moths and all you are left with are electronics and gizmos you hardly needed in the first place. And, not to speak of all the money sunk into it which falls off a cliff in a couple of years by way of depreciation.
ravikant reddy Correct! Well put!
ravikant reddy so true!
I bought an 2004 Navigator Ultimate with 84k miles on it for $1500.00 last year. I kid you not. It is my daily, and it is beautiful! Air suspension still works!
Can't argue with the numbers. They do in fact work. I used to work with a guy who used to buy only the cheapest used vehicles he could find, with the smallest engines possible. When they died, he'd get another cheap used vehicle. That guy saved more money in five years than the rest of us did with all our fancy investment advisers and maxed-out 401k's. BTW, Scotty, Merry Christmas to you & your family, and thank you for all your hard work.
Thank You.......Great Video. I own still my Navigator(Navi Cruiser) ;). Yes the suspension was a drag. Fixed it till the parts worn that couldn't be fixed. So I went to springs around 2013. All that time I changed the seals and a new cap. Until the bag finally showed deterioration. So in 2012 went to springs. Couldn't find a good set of springs after market. Untill around 2017 When expeditions began showing in the wrecking yards. So i bought 4 macphearson coil springs from an expedition. Installed in my Navigator problem solved. The space an luxury of my navigator still the best I seen. Is 2022 and still driving today :).
Pretty clean looking ride but I'm not a fan of the black hood. It looks like someone crunched the hood and was too cheap to paint it.
David Klein he said the top half is “wrapped” which means they placed a colored film over the original paint.
Looks like a police car
"Too cheap to paint it." I'm sorry but getting professional paint done is the complete opposite of cheap.. A lot of places still want over $300 for just the hood
@@caayydenn And that's a problem why? I paid I think $600 just to have my hood repainted back in 1994. If you want quality you have to pay for quality.
@@Cartier_specialist I can get a whole nother car for $600 that idc about the paint and the car might still last a year. Maybe its just me but i usually dont have a spare $600 to spend on paint but yes i agree you pay for good quality
This guy was very good. I knew nothing about the Aviator and he sliced right through it for me. Good job.
Pays for itself when selling all the stolen TVs and refrigerators this can haul.
My 2004 lincoln navigator used to get 15mpg city and 18+ mpg highway with modest cargo and 5 passengers.
I once got 23.4 mpg on a 220 mile highway trip to Vermont and back. Awesome vehicle and was a pleasure to own other than the 5.4 cam phaser issues!
Plenty of towing capacity and I believe 330hp. It was a rocket ship when you punched it.
It was all wheel, 4w4, and 4×2 drive. Also had the rear entertainment center with dvd player and screen and power 3rd row seats.
Kids loved it growing up. Was awesome for long trips and school fieldtrips!
Hmmm seems to be some math issues here
12,000 miles driven per year:
This car 12,000/10 mpg = 1200 gal
1200 gal x $3.50 per gal = $4200
Price in gas for 10 years = $42000
Prius 12,000/52 mpg = 231 gal
231 gal x $3.50 = $808
Price in gas for 10 years = $8080
Thus the price difference in gas alone will be about $34,000 over 10 years of driving. The MSRP of a Prius is between $24k and $32k
Now for those people saying “ya but I wouldn’t be caught dead 💀 in a Prius”
RAV 4 hybrid 12,000/40 mpg = 300 gal
300 gal x $3.50 = $1050
Price in gas over 10 years = $10500
Still about a $30,000 difference over 10 years.
Or if you can find one buy an old celica. I hear those things run on tap water 😉
Majority of drivers don't drive the same car for 10-years, the math does change with such extreme longevity as nearly every car you buy new and keep for 10+ years will depreciate most of its value so the initial purchase price becomes the main factor. Do the same math for 3-years of ownership and account for depreciation. Plus, gas in NYC is currently only $3/gallon for 93 octane. Some cars will completely throw the estimations too, i.e. many Porsche 911 cars barely depreciate between the age of 10 to 15 years old, so a 2010 and 2005 model (997 series) would be close in price; compare depreciation and fuel usage with a new Porsche E-Hybrid kept for 5-years.
Thanks for the video! I am on the hunt now for one now you have helped me decide what my next video for my needs as a disabled man a little larger than you at 6'2" 180 this is the vehicle that will help me.
I love your comment Jeffrey, very happy that I could be of help.
Hope you have a great Christmas Scotty!
I have a 2005 Aviator and I love it. I bought it in 2011 and it had 1 owner. I will keep it until the wheels fall off. Only 107,000 miles !!!
My dad used to have a Navigator for his daily driver and an Avaitor as his company car
@TSC TSC I think he liked the Navigator for health reasons , because of his size he hit his head on the door a couple of times.
I got a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, won’t die!
My dad has both the Mountaineer and an Aviator. Both have been fantastic vehicles. The Mountaineer is about 190k miles with the original engine and tranny. Ford knows how to make a long lasting reliable vehicle.(The Ford Pinto and Fiesta were both big fails though.)
Those suvs are unbelievable. I had one for 13 years and 250,000 miles. Great vehicle overall. Definitely would suggest one if it has lower miles.
@@addictedtocomedy940 Yea its a great ride minus fuel economy rip mine tho engine's cylinders are fucked up and it made fuel economy even worse lmao one of these days sadly its going to die
Man, that's a smart lucky purchase, the interior is in perfect shape...
Now I want one. I had that engine in my Expedition. It was bulletproof.
$12,000 is not pocket change!!!!
Dude...he lives in a FREAKING MANSION !!!😍
Edwin G 😃. Right! Not for me !
That's still doable for most people in order to actually buy a vehicle out right. The $12k would normally only be the down payment.
Where does he say what he paid for it
You can get one with 180k for 3500 in GA
Just bought an 07 navigator with 225k miles for $3500. Has a few things wrong with it but runs great. Lots of power and amazing options. Looks like a $20k truck all day long. I think i'll easily get 400k miles out of it. I'm OCD about car maintenance
Sweet vehicle. I had a 1964 Lincoln Continental 4 door (suicide doors) that was like driving a limo....I once drove it 515 miles in
6.5 hours...and I had to make one stop for gas. (I started the trip midnight on a holiday.) At 100 mph, it was like being in
an airplane. The detail on that car was amazing.
'64 was the best year for the Continental 4-door drop top - I've been contemplating procuring one of those for years...
Merry Christmas Scotty!!
Merry Christmas!
God blessed you both
If it has the 5R55 transmission, be careful because they have too many problems. I had an explorer XLT and changed fluid religiously and still had to replace transmission!
Love these and love to see enthusiasm about them
I found an 03 aviatior for only $2600 with only 133,000 miles. Very nice SUV for the age. I got a steal.
Darnit people watch your channel the price is about to rise on Lincolns 😂
Hopefully not 2 many people watch it in my area. Lol
As a former Lincoln dealership auto tech- there is no fixing those things.
The main problem is they have bad valves in the heads and you are to replace them with heads from the Mustang Cobra’s of that vintage.
The transmissions are complete junk- you will never fix them
You recommend getting an 05?
Yeah, this guy probably has the bad heads on this 2003 but Ford DID revise the heads in mid 2003 so the 2004 & up vehicles w/ the 32v 4.6l should be golden 💪 it was discovered that these older ones had coolant flow issues on #6, 7 & 8 cylinders causing them to overheat which led to the valves no longer seating properly...but then you're still left to deal w/ that 5R55S transmission in these which IS trash, many design flaws in those; I wouldn't trust that it will last too long w/ out needing some sort of major repair or even a complete overhaul...
Gas mileage is one thing, the fact that the aviators take premium fuel makes it more costly.
Not necessarily. Cheaper gas gets used up faster. less effective. Like light beer.
This was a great review! Can’t wait to get mine
Very nice for the age. Heck of a deal and well done video!
Thank you for the kind words - and indeed this has proven to be an amazing car purchase.
My barber bought one of these new in 2003 or 04, a rose colored example with cream-colored leather. It has a sunroof, of course along with the full power options. When my barber died in December 2014, the vehicle was still practically like new. Her daughter took over driving the Aviator as her work vehicle, she's also a barber, the Aviator is still on the road to this day.
I have the 2003 Kitty Hawk edition and I love it (except the fuel consumption). It doesn’t have 30K miles on it yet. The previous owner put a $3-4K sound system in it. It’s a jet black classy ride.
I have a 03 I bought 12 years ago for $3200. I park it most winters and currently has 182k miles on it. Love the vehicle extremely reliable.
like his enthusiasm.
Hey, good arguments thrown there in regards depreciated value on new vehicles vs high operating cost in old trucks holding its value.
Unfortunately his gas mileage assumptions do not stand up to scrutiny. I see the point he's trying to make but in reality his calculations are way off.
I test drove a Navigator 3 years ago when I was looking for a car for the wife. It was the 05 I believe, the dealership wanted around 7k for it, with 170,xxx miles. The front seats weren't quite wide enough, as compared to riding in a Marquis. We passed on it. Now, for 1000 dollars, HECK YA I WOULD BY IT!
No offense. Are you sure you looked at a Lincoln navigator or a Lincoln aviator? I could see the seats in the Lincoln aviator not being wide enough but the Lincoln navigator is the larger all of the two trucks. The navigator is built on the F-150 pickup platform. The aviator is built on the Ford ranger platform. You must have been looking at an aviator or you and your wife are gigantic. Just like I said I mean no offense. When I say gigantic people fat people.
Merry Christmas Scotty and Family and all the RUclipsrs who make Scotty's channel a first and regular stop everyday of the Year !
Nice vid!
He did a fantastic job. He should have his own RUclips channel. But, there’s no replacing Scotty.
Thank you for the kind words - I do have my own channel, linked in Scotty's sticky-comment above.
Would love to own a Aviator of this vintage. Good find. Wished I could have seen wider shots of it.
Merry Christmas, Scotty!
Merry Christmas!
Scotty always gets a thumbs up 👍
He is right... This Lincoln doesn't compete with Range Rover's...... The Lincoln has a Ford power train and is very reliable. Our neighbor had a Range Rover. Reliability, parts availability and competence at the dealership level was an on going challenge to say the least.
I find many vehicles built around the 2000 model year seems to tougher and more reliable than the new stuff.
Plate C
your right i did forget about this one way more reliable than the 5.4
Lincoln air suspension is actually really good as far as air suspension goes. Which means mediocre closed to coilovers lol! I bought a '97 Towncar with 198,000 miles on it. I replaced the MAF sensor and drove it 50,000 in 3 years. Didn't touch it except oil, filters and tires. Sold it still running fine, leaking nothing. Paint and leather still looked above average. That 4.6 is amazing.
Merry Christmas Scotty.
How much did he pay for the Aviator?
Never heard him mention that or how many miles was I the Aviator?
103,292 miles, seen at 9:24.
Slightly less than 10 mpg.
103,392 × $3 per gallon ÷ 10 mpg = approx $31,000 in fuel for the life of the vehicle so far.
The price per gallon is assumed of course and he said less than 10 mpg, but those were the values provided.
He has a good point on depreciation however. Of course, one might buy a slightly used Corolla for a daily driver and miss out on the massive depreciation hit and poor gas mileage.
Older vehicles were built so much better. I'm keeping my 2003 truck until I die.
Mick Foley you got a great deal and your looking really healthy man.
I have a 18 year old Chevy Tahoe and it is more comfortable and dependable than a lot of newer trucks today. I think it’s paid for itself and then some. I bought it new with 0% financing.
Very nice!
Hope that baby runs well and you get tons of miles and years of enjoyment from your new purchase.
My sister has a black one! She’s put $12,000.00 in repairs so far and refuses to get rid of it
After 2+ years of ownership, mine has needed nothing but a new battery.
Scotty you look a lot younger without your glasses!
Just bought one..1 owner before me is a beast.💪💪
Love my navigator I really wish Scotty would do a series on certain vehicles. I want his opinion about the navigators. What years are the best to buy, what goes wrong with them etc
they do! but fixable and worth it. I have had 2 , 2011 Navigators crashed one ,bought another. The first one no air suspension problems ,2nd one yes (dealer converted it,don't do it! horrible ride, I am actually going to pay to switch it back) 2nd major problem with it cam phaser . lot of Lincoln Navigators and F150 have that problem if you handle both of those it will cost 3750 to 4000. But other then that they are flawless. my first one had 280k when I crashed it ,ran like it had 35k on the odometer
We want Scotty!

Tyler Hoovie would be proud to own that car, that 4.6 engine is solid, same motor that’s in my Crown Vic’s sounds just like one when you romp on it, that car was definitely garaged it’s whole life, it looks brand new.

You’re a great car salesman. Nice job.
I have a GMC ENJOY 2007 I LOVE IT I can call my pontoon it's now just under 200000 miles and going strong.
Love how people make fun of people purchasing new vehicles( a depreciating asset) and making them able to finally afford one when used. What would you drive without these people you mock, just be glad they have disposable income for you. Also, You do realize that all autos drop in value as they are a consumable. Irony, get you some!
Nice ride! I have the LS v8 same year 2003. Always been a fan of Lincoln
He’s comparing it to a Land Rover Range Rover, but there’s a lot more high mileage Lincolns on the road than there are Land Rovers and other European cars. Lincolns are way more reliable and when they do break they’re a lot cheaper to fix and maintain.
Seriously, Rovers are so freakin' unreliable. Whenever I See One on the road , I think, " Didn't you at least read Consumer Reports before you bought your rig??"
Just ridiculous!!
The Lincolm LS is one of the most comfortable, smoothest, and reliable car ive ever driven.
ChaviÑo The LS was nice, but had too many Jaguar components throughout which made it a bit sketchy. Otherwise they were fast, sporty and comfortable, like jaguars, but not quite as solid as the Town car.
I have a 08 Lincoln Navigator and it has 500 thousand miles it is still running and in good shape I keep the oil change all the time
The not so obvious Explorer line up are hidden gems, I have a 2007 Sport Trac with the F150 292hp 4.6 3v V8 mated to a 6spd automatic, the truck comes with a tow rating of 7,200lbs, it has full leather interior, heated seats, adjustable pedals, sun roof, rear powered window, and auto dual climate control. I have had new Tacomas and Colorados give me props on how nice the truck looks and are shocked when they realize its 12yrs old now.
The air suspension on my old 1992 Lincoln Town Car went out on me. It wasn’t worth the cost fixing it.
Merry Christmas Scotty.
This is the Lincoln Explorer. Looks like he scored a deal.
Sort of...same chassis, all different sheet metal, all different interior, 4.6 DOHC instead of 4.6 SOHC.
That year range 02-05 explorer mountaineer and aviator are nice till their transmission craps out... It's a known issue and even Ford's "fix" for it only lasts 50-60k miles. Hardened steel sleeve up against an aluminum case.. Been there done that :/ mine gave no warning and lost a gear on the highway at 70mph ..
You came up brother 1,000 dollars ain't bad .
That dude should be a spokesman for something. Props.
17 years old I’d check you’re upper ball joints, flush brake lines, change rear differential fluid.
Why assume none of that has been done? However for the record, the lower BJs on those wear out faster than the upper.
Stinky Cheese just a reminder to someone who isn’t all to familiar with mechanics or mantainence schedules.
