@@JoeJohnson-xd8id I didn't know the 3-valve was that old, I'm pretty sure the 4-valve, which this and most first-gen Navigators of the era, predates the 3-valve by a few years.
I daily drive a 2006 F350 Diesel. The steering wheel, adjustable pedals, and many other things are identical to this. I actually love having the volume, and climate buttons right there! It's a fantastically convenient place for them and I wish more cars did this. Especially the climate controls.
This brought back my childhood. My mom had the exact same Navigator (color-wise, but a 2000 year model) just with less fake wood, which I highly doubt was a dealer accessory. She loved it so much she traded it in 2005 for a fully loaded black on gray 2006 Navigator Ultimate. We were so blown away by the cooled seats, power liftgate and running boards, and both cars brought many good memories. She was excited for the next generation until the 2007 dropped and came with that hideous face, so she moved on to the 2007 Escalade, and later a 2010. They never did give us that same feeling the Navigators did. My favorite quirk of the 2000 Navi was the "stadium" setting on the radio. So much reverberation 😅
I remember these were huge 20+ years ago. I remember getting a sound system installed in my car at "Car Sound" off Roswell Rd in Atlanta late 90s and sitting next to my car was a black navigator owned by the Rap R&B singer Keith Sweat. It was top dog only under euro sedans. Expensive or nice 90s cars were mostly good cars and very well made for their time. I can tell Doug liked the ride quality but couldn't show it too much because to most folks its now considered a POS. I'd prefer the way this Navigator drives and works over the new one. Simple and connected. In 20 years the new Navigator will be driving with many issues from infotainment wear to turbos that no longer push air.
I remember when this truck came out. It really was the most amazing suv anyone has every seen. If you owned one you were definitely part of the elite class LoL. If you were lucky enough, just being a passenger was your highlight of the year.
We owned a 1997 and a 2002 Ford Expedition XLT for many years. The best feature...turning the ceiling vents so the air would hit you from behind. It was great in the summer! 😁🤩🤣
well it first came out in 1998, so the title is correct - the 1998 Navigator was the first big luxury SUV, but the description is correct, too, because he is reviewing a 1999 model. the title isn't referring to this one specifically
@@anthonygoodrich1256 Yeah it's funny the way this all started. Lincoln really did beat Cadillac to market. But then by the second gen, the Escalade was off and running and there was pretty much no looking back. The other factor is, GM was ahead of Ford on the non-luxury fullsize SUV. They had the 4 door Tahoe in 1996 which was actually very popular.

I just got a Limited Ford Explorer 2007, and it is such an relatable car! So funny. I love controlling temp and fan from the steering wheel. And the glass in the back is AMAZING.
My dad worked at Lincoln and I loved this when he brought one home the first day they came in. The 3rd tow was just bolted to the back section. As a kid I didn't have enough headroom. Alot of people removed them because they were useless.
Imagine how I feel when I see that Doug rates every vehicle under 300HP at a 1 out of 10 for acceleration. I've been daily driving a car with 103HP for years, and I always arrive at my destination faster than the satnav thinks I will before the journey.
@@Fritz___ a lot of European cars, even brand new ones. I learned to drive stick on a 2002 Skoda Fabia, 68hp when new. You could still get up to 100MPH with four people in the car, so yes it was slow, but adequate.

Not even close. The Ford GT engine shares 3 things with this thing; displacement, 8 cylinders in a V arrangement, and 32 valves. That's where the similarities end. The GT engine was a totally different animal.
My buddy Nicholas used to have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator which was his first car and when he got it, the paint on it (which was a beige color) was completely messed up so he decided to wrap it in a black color and after that, he added some big rims on it and even added subs in the back and also an aftermarket radio and whenever he would take it to school, he would blast music in it until class started but after he owned it for a couple years, he sold it to his friend and got a first generation Toyota Tundra and after he sold the Tundra, he got a Dodge Dart

Doug, the "In-Tech" monicker simply differentiated the 32V DOHC versions of the Triton engines vs the plebian 2-valvers. The engine in that truck is actually highly desirable and can easily knock on the door of 1K horsepower with forced induction. I'd be curious how your driving impressions would change if that were done to it 😆

I have crossed out "USE LINCOLN NAVIGATOR AS AN AMBULANCE" from my to-do list
@Andrew Smith you want to know what's better? SEARGENT INSURANCE!!
I daily drive a 2006 F350 Diesel.
The steering wheel, adjustable pedals, and many other things are identical to this.
I actually love having the volume, and climate buttons right there! It's a fantastically convenient place for them and I wish more cars did this.
Especially the climate controls.
Doug the type of guy to use a Lincoln Navigator as an ambulance.
Zubexlol I mean, he could. It sounds like a good idea.

@Christopher Adams I don't get it. sorry.

I remember those 3rd row seats, as heavy as they were, would be stolen a lot because they were super expensive.
I still have mine...
Guess I'll have to put a GPS tracker on it
22:31 "Comfort is good, not amazing but excellent"
What? How does this make any sense? Excellent is less than amazing apparently???
Doug score is so arbitrary it's silly
Kenneth Ledford I agree.
Doug just kind of talks.
Excellent isn’t as good as amazing lol. Excellent means something is very good, amazing means you’ve never experienced that level of comfort before.

Please Doug, can you review the 1994 Ford Probe GT ? Thank you
mihai0377 I had a white one.

why would he review a shit car that isnt even made currently
@@EckoHawker That shitty car like you said it's a Mazda Engine and chassis ! So you're saying Japanese Cars are shitty huh ? :))
Lincoln navigator has the wood trim in the first gen
my 99 eddie bauer edition explorer had that steering wheel climate controls i loved it definitely wish that it was on more cars
Chris Davis Eddie Bauer gay
My 2005 f250 lariat has it and it’s great
Actually this review is not factual as I bought one of the first Eddie Bauer edition Expeditions which was a 1997 but I bought it in November of '96!
I had the same vehicle and was thinking the same while looking at those steering wheel buttons.
I had a 2000 Explorer EB. I miss having that feature!
The first gen Lincoln Navigator. The official car of the hood
They didn't age well compared to the gm SUVs, these have been poverty, ghetto rides for over 10 years
Archos Copelin right I bought a 2002 Tahoe that wasn’t abused lol no big rims or big subwoofers

@@aosorea Since it's USA, they are tires, tyres they are in the Europe... :D
I remember when this truck came out. It really was the most amazing suv anyone has every seen. If you owned one you were definitely part of the elite class LoL. If you were lucky enough, just being a passenger was your highlight of the year.
It's cool they still carry the same prestige with the latest gen but man they are expensive.
@@Powertoolz They do?
Jay Smith The depreciation after a few years makes them such a good value on the pre-owned market.
We owned a 1997 and a 2002 Ford Expedition XLT for many years. The best feature...turning the ceiling vents so the air would hit you from behind. It was great in the summer! 😁🤩🤣
This wood-plated Expedition was baller af back in 99'

Let’s not forget the 8,800 lbs towing capacity with the ride height air suspension 😩
That Air Suspension is great until it stops working. It did on my Expedition and now it squats and is rough over bumps.

1998 in the title
1999 in the description
🤦🏻♂️
well it first came out in 1998, so the title is correct - the 1998 Navigator was the first big luxury SUV, but the description is correct, too, because he is reviewing a 1999 model. the title isn't referring to this one specifically
VIN states that it’s a 1999.
Thanks for all your replies I get it now 😁👍

Are you kidding? Doug doesn't even wear a suit when reviewing the Bugatti Chiron.
Hard to believe this was top of the line when I was a kid.
Doug the type of guy to ride around in this Lincoln like Matthew McConaughey waxing philosophically about quirks and features.
Except Matthew McConaughey can sit in the back seat AND drive at the same time!
I’d like to see a video on a 1999 Escalade or a First Gen Yukon Denali. That’d be cool @doug
That first gen Escalade was just a rebadged Denali I hated it so much but that 2nd gen Escalade with the huge grill loved it
Anthony Goodrich Denali didnt come out till 00 or 01. 99 Escalade was a rebadged Tahoe
Joel B
Tahoe/Yukon Same thing🤣 (almost)
Shit interior and a 3rd row perfect for paraplegics
@@anthonygoodrich1256 Yeah it's funny the way this all started. Lincoln really did beat Cadillac to market. But then by the second gen, the Escalade was off and running and there was pretty much no looking back. The other factor is, GM was ahead of Ford on the non-luxury fullsize SUV. They had the 4 door Tahoe in 1996 which was actually very popular.
Doug, big time congrats on the 3 million subscribers. Noticed you just surpassed it after this video was released. Been watching since you had just a couple hundred thousand and really enjoy what you do. Wish you the best of continued success! Cheers!

My dad worked at Lincoln and I loved this when he brought one home the first day they came in. The 3rd tow was just bolted to the back section. As a kid I didn't have enough headroom. Alot of people removed them because they were useless.
Were you a 3 meters tall?
Imagine how I feel when I see that Doug rates every vehicle under 300HP at a 1 out of 10 for acceleration. I've been daily driving a car with 103HP for years, and I always arrive at my destination faster than the satnav thinks I will before the journey.
Rafterman Howard What has 103 HP?
@@Fritz___ My '92 Jetta GL had 98hp and a 5-speed manual. ;)

@@Fritz___ a lot of European cars, even brand new ones. I learned to drive stick on a 2002 Skoda Fabia, 68hp when new. You could still get up to 100MPH with four people in the car, so yes it was slow, but adequate.
I’m guessing the dougscore has become his rev up your engines catch phrase . Nobody I know enjoys his scoring and it’s not the same kind of cute saying. Obviously plenty of viewers like it but the rev up your engine thing is over in a second and gone. The moronic Doug score goes on and on.

I used to own a Lightning, I also used to jack a lot of interior parts from these Navigators at junk yards for my lightning
I have a side-by-side comparison of the 1998 Navigator and the 2018 Navigator on my channel. Pretty interesting to see them sitting together.
Intech meant it was DOHC. Throw a supercharger on it and it is the same engine in your Ford GT.
Not even close. The Ford GT engine shares 3 things with this thing; displacement, 8 cylinders in a V arrangement, and 32 valves. That's where the similarities end.
The GT engine was a totally different animal.
its bore and stroke length are different and material also different.
Doug is the type of guy that reviews your SUV in your own front garden but doesn't give a f**k about the flowers he stands on as he speaks about similar type of SUV models of the same era.
Press 'F' to pay respect to those flowers.
Doug, the "In-Tech" monicker simply differentiated the 32V DOHC versions of the Triton engines vs the plebian 2-valvers.
The engine in that truck is actually highly desirable and can easily knock on the door of 1K horsepower with forced induction.
I'd be curious how your driving impressions would change if that were done to it 😆
Mine has been super reliable!
So far the only problem on the engine has been a leaky oil pan gasket!
