Out of Control Big Rig Trucks Are Causing Horrible Accidents

- America’s truckers have played a huge role in getting goods across the country, but has the pressure to keep store shelves stocked led to danger on the roads? Every day, there are more than 5,500 accidents involving big trucks that lead to injury or even death. Experts say a person is killed or seriously injured in an accident caused by a semi-truck about every 15 minutes. Inside Edition hit the highway with Indiana state trooper Anthony Emery, who stopped and gave warnings to several truckers for speeding and cellphone use. #InsideEdition #IEInvestigates

There's also a huge problem with people pulling out in front of semi's, trying to get ahead of it. My father has driven big rigs all my life, and more than once he's had to dive into the woods and try not to be impaled when people with FAMILIES in their vehicles pull out in front of him and he obviously can't stop in time. Thanksgiving 2016 he clipped the bed of a pickup truck pulling out in front of him that had CHILDREN in the truck... and he was inches away from being killed by a tree through his windshield. Distracted driving is definitely a huge problem, but it's so common to see people not realizing inertia exists.

A young woman who was looking down, not sure what at, a cellphone or radio, blew though a stop sign, in a Chrysler minivan. I t boned her doing aprox 55 to 60 mph. Her van spun around and flipped. My car also lost control and came to a rest on a sidewalk. The young woman was very badly injured. I suffered torn ligaments in my legs, my back was messed up, a broken nose and hairline fracture in my shoulder. Were it not for a good samaritan and witnesses stopping to our aid, and a nearby convenience store which I assume some of the wreckage, would have been my word against hers.

They will also pull in front of trucks, completely oblivious to the danger that puts them in. Folks, trucks can't stop like cars can, they need much more room.

That leaves 8 hours to cook, clean, shower, rest, then about 5 hours sleep. If you want to stop these accidents we need 6 hour work days for truckers while being paid for a 14 hour day... then roads will be safer!
Surprised that they didn't mention sleep deprivation being a factor. Stories I've heard about how hard they push these truckers to move loads adds an extra layer of pressure on the trucker by the employer from tight scheduling turnaround time frames.
there was a story a few years ago about a truck driver using cocain or some type of drug to stay awake so yeah this is 100% correct
Still doesn't compare to the biggest threat to truck drivers and that is in fact 4 wheelers. At least 70% of wrecks involving a 4 wheeler and semi is the fault of the 4 wheeler.
Yep. Between tragic accidents like the ones featured here and the pressure of companies to move freight around the country, it seems to me that self-driving trucks will rapidly displace human truckers almost as soon as the technology reaches maturity and regulations allow it. Companies will love automated trucks that can drive nearly 24 hours a day and thereby move cargo much faster because computer systems don't require sleep, and it will undoubtedly be promoted to the public as a safety measure. Unfortunately this will put countless hard-working truckers out of work.
Not to mention the idiotic government regulations that put them at risk too

Yep I completely agree I’m always worried about other cars driving but I never worry about truck drivers I’ve had so many close calls with normal cars but only once with a truck and it was due to the cars in front of me slowing down to much on a highway on wet roads for no reason
Exactly!!!
But they’re putting themselves in danger when they do that, not you. When truck drivers text and drive they’re putting everyone but themselves in danger
Any police who see this, please please stop giving warnings to people. People need fines, people remember fines, people change more after paying a fine, people drive more carefully after they lose points on their license. A warning isn't an effective deterrent, a fine or loss of a license is.
The fact that the truck had teeth makes it like it was made to kill
I feel absolutely horrible for all of these victims and their families. On the other hand what a lot of people do not realize is that in nearly 85% of all accidents involving semi’s it’s the car’s fault not the 18 wheeler’s fault. I hate that inside edition does not show these statistics instead of the instances where it is the big rig’s fault 🤷♂️
It's Inside Edition. Don't expect too much. But yes, it seems common sense to include stats showing the percentage of times it's actually the trucker's fault. Sometimes, I find their headlines interesting, then I'm left with basic questions they should have answered or at least given an explanation as to why they couldn't get that info.
@Sebastian Belcher learn to drive around the truck. Simple, my dads homie just got in accident last week that killed a man. He drives an 18 wheeler, he wasn’t at fault and has no issues besides a damaged truck.
Your speaking facts
What a selfish and cruel thing to comment, you should be ashamed of yourself.
One of the main problems is distracted driving and they’re out on the highway distracting drivers.
I lost my Dad to a collision earlier this year in February, he was only 59, and driving his snow-blowing tractor home on the highway, just a quick 15 second trip over a bridge to his exit, when it was struck by a transport truck, killing him instantly. It has devastated our whole family. 😢
😥🙏
Highway 11, Norman Brandt. I’m so sorry
@@alexsabothomas3621 That’s correct, I assume you live in the area? Thanks.
@@Alex1986Dec I figured, it sounded so similar in every way unfortunately. I live Port Sydney, but work closer in Gravenhurst and was at work the day it happened and one of my co-workers knew him and was devastated.
@@alexsabothomas3621 I see.
3 truckers have switched into my lane running me off the road. I started driving interstate 2 years ago if that tells you anything.
Her being in the middle of the road has a weird feeling to it .
Around 8-9 years ago, my mom and I were driving down the highway when a distracted trucker began to drift to the outside lane forcing us into a forest of many trees but luckily my mom was on high enough alert to see the truck and honk to stop the trucker. To this day, it’s still the scariest moment I’ve ever had on the road.
Bet he was either sleepy or distracted.
I’ll bet you fools were driving right in his blind spot!! How do you know he was distracted?? Do you even know where a trucks blind spot is?? If he hears your horn YOU WERE IN HIS BLIND SPOT!!! 2 sides to every story!!!
@@jimmcgough6479 bruh lol Thats all i gotta say lol just bruh🤣 If they almost crashed into them they most likely were distracted
This is why I hate driving around any truck of any kind. One of them just took out my driver side mirror merging into my lane and didn't even stop. Probably didn't notice or care. I compare the trucks to big dumb animals with lower intelligence due to their big size creating so many blind spots for the drivers. Now I just hate driving around any truck or any kind
this happen to me like 2-3 month ago
I’ve always had a fear for heavy vehicles, not just when I’m next to them in the highway, but because of the massive damage they can cause
Why the hell is she reporting right next to the freeway while talking about how many accidents happen from distracted driving🤦♂️
