I bought their Greatest Hits, double disc, at Walmart for like $9. I had a really nice sound system in my truck with on sub-woofer, one night after darts I took a friend home and ended up jamming out for about 2 hours on his driveway, just blasting the speakers away , singing and screaming away, having some beers and token till 2 in the morning on a weeknight. We only made it to the first 17 songs out of 27 songs, and I had to get home. My truck was stolen recently and lost that CD with all the other stuff missing, really pisses me off ! Best money spent and great memory.
I particularly like Steve Miller Band during the Fly Like an Eagle/Book of Dreams period. To my knowledge, no band uses more 'fade outs" to end their songs......not that it's a bad thing. Please review The Stake.
They had so many incredible songs. It's just music that is so easy to like, and dance to and sing along with. It's just a dictive that way. It was a bit before my time here in Lawrence Kansas but apparently about six years before I got here in the mid-70s, he would regularly pass through and play downtown in our South Park we're bands still played at this day. I wish I could have been there!

Got to see Steve Miller in the 70's it was the bomb a lot of artists use auto tune but if you listen to the bands from the 70s hardly any had to have their voice auto tuned.
This is actually the original studio version put to a video of them live. I had this on cassette when I was 17 in 1975 jamming on my pioneer stereo in my 1969 Buick Riviera. Good times

Oh yeah. I would love to see someone react to both versions back-to-back. Probably do the Paul version First since it's his song and it came out the bit earlier. Apparently one of the guys in Steve Miller Band, was it the keyboard player? Was an apprentice during the studio session when Paul recorded this song and he was so taken by it that later he has to Paul if Steve Miller Band could do it and Paul graciously said yes. He didn't even ask for royalties although I understand that they did give him money for it in the end. I don't even think he was particularly bitter about it at all, it's just that he never really got the public recognition that it would have been nice for him to have. I absolutely love that original version. It's So Funky and Soulful and different and it's got a lot more words in it that Steve Miller Band had the kind of chopped down to make it a shorter song. It's absolutely wonderful and it did turn out to be perfect for Steve Miller Band to put their own stamp on it as well.
Steve Miller is a great recording artist, and his live shows are SO MUCH FUN, but this video was a lip sync performance, to the album track. But it's all good, y'all.
