An amazing tune, for other stuff of Steve Miller Band that deserve a reaction, try Fly Like a Eagle, Take the Money and Run, Jet Airline, and Abracadabra! Awesome tunes!
That heavily delayed version of Fly Like An Eagle he did on The Midnight Special is stunning. So is the guitar he plays in that. Another underrated guitarist and songwriter.
I graduated in 1977 and every car had huge speakers in the back windows, loud Steve Miller with our 1 FM Radio station and finally 8 track tapes, we thought we were so cool. lol. Sorry, it takes this 62 yr old woman back reminiscing bout the old days. Love to all ❤
Mr. Miller was once my boss...I worked on his Rockin' 'M' Ranch in Southern Oregon (just north of Williams OR), for two years just before he sold it in 1986. He "IS" Mr. Chill.
I lived in various places in Oregon from 80- 88, Cave Junction, Selma, Kirby and mostly Grants Pass, my oldest 3 kids were born there...ran into Miller in Grants Pass a couple times...he was in just about everyone's collection at the time...awwwe the memories!😌
OMG.... I went to Illinois Valley school in my Jr year. My folks moved to Selma (this was before I lived in Oregon on my own) after my Jr year had already started in Sacramento California. I had crapy classes because nothing was open by the time I got there...we moved back to So. Cali before the year was even over as things didn't go well.. I loved lunch tho, killer salad bar and there was a band that played there in the lunch quad...I think they were a Christian rock band from Selma. I would have been class of 80 as well but that's another story...lol Small World!!
@@Mamat5kdz I too left about the same time...it was 1987. My firstborn was born in Grants Pass in 1986. I was for a short time in Grass Valley CA and spent most of my early years in SoCal. Yep...small world.
Does anyone remember when this was sample to the song “Angel”, by Shaggy? Steve Miller had hits back then... My joint was “Fly like an Eagle”... Classic choice Asia and BJ!!
Steve Miller is an American guitarist, singer & songwriter. The Steve Miller Band had a lot of great hits in the 70's-80's such as "Gangster Of Love", "Space Cowboy", "Fly Like An Eagle", "Rock'n Me", "Take The Money & Run", "Jet Airliner", "Jungle Love", "The Joker", "Abracadabra", "Swingtown", "Dance, Dance, Dance" & many more.
Sure brings back memories of laid-back summer afternoons-great song! Steve Miller is a virtuoso on the guitar-he sure makes it wail and talk! LOL He's playing slide guitar. You should see the live performance. They have a lot of great hits!
I remember this song from when I was a kid, I'll be 60 next week, still listen to it and Steve, the Live versions on youtube blow my mind, I never knew he was doing all that with his guitar, I believe this song, The Joker, has evolved into a Reggae song for his shows, my faves are WINTERTIME and THE WINDOW, but this song and FLY LIKE AN EAGLE Live are amazing.
I was introduced to this song at my very first job. I worked at an amusement park in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1992. I worked concessions but they had a ride called the Himalaya that was one of those rides where they spin you in one direction then stop and go the other way. The owner only allowed music like this to be played. I learned about some of the greatest music to EVER be released. Steve Miller Band has a very deep catalog.
Steve Miller Band "Jet Airliner" is a good song. Written by Pena Paul, a blind R & B musician who never had any commercial success, and his only income until he died were the royalties for his song from Steve Miller, who made the song a hit.
I saw this man live at every opportunity. The live show is so completely awesome you just have to keep coming back for more. The live version of "Swingtown" is worth the price of admission alone. The voices are so mesmerizing. Steve Miller also plays an instrument called a sitar which played a big role in 1960's psychedelic music, and I think the only time you get to hear him play it is live. Maybe "Wild Mountain Honey" has some sitar in it. Regardless, he is just a master of that instrument as well. Gawd his live show is awesome!!
I went to an Atlanta Braves game a few years ago just because he was playing in concert after the game. Bought upper deck tickets for the game and went all the way down to the field so I could enjoy him up close. Been a fan of his since the 70s.
Love, love, love Steve Miller! Growing up in the 70’s as a young teen we listened to this all the time! Fly like the eagle another great one! Love watching you both get into this music!❤️
Love Steve Miller. One of the grooviest jams out there…. That bass line is on point…. Great funk stream last night…. Hope you’re feeling better Asia with your asthma situation… Love all your reactions… Keep going!!!! 🎶🎶🎶….
I used to listen to this song all the time while going fishing with some of my older brothers. If the fish weren't biting, we didn't mind. We'd just crank up the music and crack open a few cold ones.
A Steve Miller concert is a great time for all involved. He is a vastly underrated singer, guitar player, including the slide guitar on this song and others, and songwriter. He's been active since the 1960's and as far as I know, he is still doing his thing out there. If you have a chance to see him, do it. Livin' In The USA is an early rarity that you might enjoy.
Love the Steve Miller Band.. They produced many great tunes. Check out some more of them. I see a bunch of great suggestions in the comments for other songs by them.. They are all good.. Cheers.
Hey BJ, yeah, it was some slide with the high end rolled way off, along with a wah wah pedal (they make sort of a quacky, wah wah sort of sound - think 70s car chases...lol). Good ear. Steve Miller Band had a LOT of good tunes - many people wore out the "Greatest Hits" album back in the 70s/80s.
Sweet! Miller drops the names of a few of his earlier songs in the first verse -- "Space Cowboy", "Gangster of Love", and "Enter Maurice" -- as introductions after he retooled his sound for the seventies. "The Joker" became an FM rock radio staple and remains so to this day. Steve Miller Band dropped a trio of monster hits in 1976 -- "Fly Like an Eagle", "Take the Money and Run", "Rock'n Me" -- that more or less ruled FM rock radio for the rest of the seventies.
Your guys are great! You both also have a great sense of humour with each other, While completely respecting each other's point of view. Keep it going.
Back in the 70s, it seemed like everyone had the "Steve Miller's Greatest Hits" album (including me) and this was one of the tracks. In an episode of "That 70s Show", Eric (I think it was) says, "some people call me the space cowboy" and Hyde (I think) replies, "nobody calls you the space cowboy". It was pretty funny. 😄
Love the “ Orioles cap , BJ as you are rocking it 😎…. And all I can say about Asia is she always looks amazing and is such a beautiful woman with such a fun and beautiful personality that always shines through 😃
Slide Guitar is a pill bottle that is used to slide up and down the strings of the guitar. Steve Miller was playing the guitar this way in this song. Duane Allman was known for playing the guitar like this. Especially on an album that Eric Clapton's group Derek and the Dominos specifically the song "Layla".
I love the guitar because it sounds like the guitar is being played under water. This was a huge college party song/album in the late 80's and early 90's.
BJ he puts a glass slide on his finger to make that sliding sound on the solo. That way he can play a regular guitar and still get that steel guitar sound. PJ
I was 16 when this was on the radio.Ised to park with my sweetie and when I got to 2nd base we would sing the "really love your peaches wanna shake your tree' part..Good times
The word is probably a corruption of - or imagined variation on - the word "puppetutes", which was itself a coinage, originated by Vernon Green at the age of 14. Green included the word "puppetutes" in the lyrics of doo-wop song "The Letter" (1954), as performed by him and The Medallions. "The Letter" also included another original coinage, "pismotality". Presumably in homage to the Medallions' song, Steve Miller used the nonce words "epismetology" and "pompatus" in the lyrics of two of his other songs, "Enter Maurice" and "The Conversation", one of which is, like "The Letter", in spoken-word style. The appealing oddness of the phrase "the pompatus of love" garnered a lot of attention, and inspired its use by others. For example, as the title of a 1996 film starring Jon Cryer.
Steve Miller is a great guitar player, playing slide guitar is one of his many talents. I have seen him a few times in outdoor concerts mostly. Definitely a Summer time party type Rock & Roll band. Lots of hits!
I seen Steve Miller in concert twice at the Zoo Amphitheater in OKC back in the early 90’s. Outdoor concerts are always the best. Such a great time. We kicked back right beside a huge biker gang and they had the best... umm sticky green 😉 They put on a great show 🤓❤️🇺🇸
A great tune to relax too , all I hear is a six string brass finger slide wah wah pedal n a mic... ever heard of Samantha Fish another great blues cover artist also gotta check out my man Muddy, Buddy Guy, Hound Dog Tailor, Little Walter's my babe, Slim Harpo, Albert Collins, some Jimmy Page, the door's house of blues and forgot his name but black n blue... Oh can't forgot well never smoke with Willie again and Willie Nelson roll me up n point towards the sky all great tunes n artist
Space Cowboy....Lining In The USA...Boz Skaggs is an original member of the group. Ok Jungle Love...Threshold/Jet Airliner....The Stake...Swingtown...Rock N Me...Take The Money And Run...Serenade...True Fine Love...that whole Album Book Of Dreams is great as is Fly Like An Eagle.
Steve has recordings of jam sessions in his home studio with Blues great Muddy Waters and others. Les Paul and others, too. Since they are private recordings, hardly anyone will get to hear them. Great song, cool reaction!
This song always brings me back to remembering my Auntie Tookie living with us when I was 6 yrs old and she was 19..my mother's youngest sibling. Brings back good memories. I love this song

I believe that is slide guitar, it was popular at that time. Slide is a regular guitar played with a metal or glass tube over one finger to give that steel guitar sound.
This song must have been written while Steve and the band were watching "HEE HAW" . The catch phrase for the show were two guitarist hosts, that would say " I am pickin, and a grinning" . The show preceded the song by quite a bit. No doubt some toking was involved during.
Great Band!!! He probably used a tube on his finger which makes it a slide. My favorite Version of "Fly Like An Eagle" is the extended version from Austin City Limits. I just was looking for fly like an eagle from the 2011 Austin City limits and it was not separated out from the rest so you have to hear the whole set .but the Joker was and he is using a guitar with the tube i was talking about on his little finger.
I kuuuuv this band...I was kinda obsessed for a minute back then ...hahahahahaha I wore out those tapes! Eduardo Silva Gomes already listed my favs in his comment...⬇️
There was a show on tv back then called Hee Haw. Every week Roy Clark and Buck Owens started the show with Roy saying, “I’m a pickin’ then Buck says, “I’m a grinning.” Some nice peaches on that show too. 😉
I'm not sure what type of guitar he was playing but you could almost certainly count on the electronic effects being something that Les Paul created. Les Paul ( yes the very same that the guitars named after) was a inventor of many unique guitar special effects and he was Steve Miller's Godfather. Mercury Blues. Overlooked gem in a deep deep catalog. That guitar sound is just slide guitar & and a wah pedal, probably a little echo too. Cool sound, adds a lot to this song.

That heavily delayed version of Fly Like An Eagle he did on The Midnight Special is stunning. So is the guitar he plays in that. Another underrated guitarist and songwriter.
Jungle love is pretty good too.
Steve Miller's Godfather is the one and only Les Paul. Not too shabby. A great artist in his own right.
Steve was playing slide guitar during the solo bits (including the wolf whistle) with a wah pedal for extra effect.
BJ got the meaning of the song, there is nothing wrong with being a joker with your lady thank you for your reaction
I absolutely love the line “ really love your peaches want to shake your tree”….☺️
Asia and BJ, Steve Miller band had a LOT of hits. Try their "Jet Airliner", "Swingtown" and "Junglelove" !!

Great call list.
Damn good list there, it's just missing "Mercury Blues" ;-]
Steve Miller was interviewed by Dan Rather and said that "pompitous of love" means "whatever you want it to mean."

Steve Miller is the Godson of Les Paul. Les Paul is a LEGEND and made popular the electric guitat.
Saw Steve Miller, along with Tom Petty and Peter Framptom, at Mountain Jam, at Hunter Mountain, N.Y. in 2017. Great weekend of music.
Saw Miller at Jones Beach in the 90’s. Such a great show. He sounded amazing!
I love The Steve Miller Band. You guys really need to listen to Fly Like an Eagle.
Thanks! Great reaction! The slide fits over his finger like a metal tube. It’s played on electric guitar here but works on acoustic guitar as well!
That song never ever gets old. Grew up with that music and I love as much now as I did when it first hit the street. Great reaction guys, TY.

If you remember that tune Angel by Rayvon and Shaggy, this was the sample underneath it, while they also used the melody from Angel of the Morning.
LOL…. LOVE THIS SONG!!! It is my ringtone in my phone 😂😂
Steve’s got great songs and an interesting history!

They were my 1st concert in 91 😊
