Steve Miller Band has a bunch of great hits. What is also interesting was that his godfather was the famous Les Paul, and other famous musicians would come over to his parents' house to record their music! I recommend looking into his biography. Very interesting man.

This is a very strange coincidence... but The Joker always reminds me of my cousin who died at 21 years old on February 25, 1975. I remember that date, a Tuesday, because I had been out super late that night at a regrettable event...bad night for me, and didn't know he had passed until the next day. But oh man, he loved this song! Always had a huge smile when he'd sing along with it. I lost my cousin the day after your little brother was born, and now they're both in heaven, hopefully groovin' to The Joker.🙌

Steve Miller is a great guitarist. He was mentored by Jazz/Pop guitarist Les Paul. The Steve Miller Band has been around since the late-1960s, and are known for their great albums, and great album cover artwork, particularly during the 1970s. They have had a number of hit songs, such as "Jet Airliner", "Livin' In The USA", "Take The Money And Run", "Keep On Rocking Me, Baby", "Fly Like An Eagle", "The Joker", and "Abracadabra" (which has a music video for the song). Steve Miller is an inductee in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He is 78 years old. Note: In 1966, The Steve Miller Band was the backing band for Chuck Berry when his live concert album, ""Live At Fillmore Auditorium" was recorded and released that year.

Man, I have been listening to that song since 1973, junior high school. Steve Miller was the singer, guitar, bass player and wrote the song. It was told back then that Steve Miller was the only one in the SMB at the time. He recorded may guitar parts and layered them on top of another,to give it a fuller sound and the same layering of the vocals, sounds like many people. So at that time The Steve Miller Band was only Steve Miller , lol. All this was new technology then , now I think it's completely different with the digital technique. The I play my music in the sun, means his songs are straight forward, but everything else (joker, smoker, midnight toker) is under cover of night . I am 62 yrs old now and still love this tune man. Thanks Van, keep on rocking brothers and sisters.

Midnight Special was where I first saw KISS play, among others who were truly awesome, Linda Ronstadt. In Concert in 1974 played the California Jam, many bands were on there. I'm off track what I was going to say was I got the opportunity to see Edgar Winter in 2001 he was in Ringo Starr's All-star Band he played Frankenstein on the same Moog Synthesizer he used on TMS that night it was great. Memories are wonderful sometimes. Thanks Verna, rock sister ,

@@shannonjohnson2530 I meant to say, Edgar Winter played a Moog Synthesizer that generated most of those sounds. However he played sax and a pair of timbale drums , on the Midnight Special. When I saw him with Ringo's allstars band he was using the same Moog, I could tell by the way it looked. He put a guitar strap on it to play standing and moving around on stage. Thanks Shannon.

I have one daughter and I made sure she listened to this era of music, including Steve Miller Band. From a young age. Her Dad took care of the country side of things. Anywho, she would walk around singing this song, including Midnight Toker, starting about age 10. I thought this was the funniest thing ever! 😂 Move along until she was 23, she calls me up and was like, MOM, how could you do this to me, I have been singing Midnight Toker ALL of these years and you never stopped me. I laughed, because who wouldn’t, and was like, and what made you find out now, hmmmmm?!?! She said, Don’t change the subject, that was child abuse! I said, Drama much, you survived, if this is the worst thing that happens to you in your life consider yourself lucky. She tells the story to this day but laughs about it. She says now that she is happy that she had cool parents. Took her 30 years to admit the obvious truth! 😂 💗

This song was playing at the party where I first met my husband. It always reminds me of him. You should check out more Steve Miller Band. Take the Money and Run, Fly Like an Eagle and Wild Mountain Honey are all good songs.

This is house party music, at least for folks my age growing up and living our lives here in the Southern US. This about sums up life.

FUN FACT: Les Paul is Steve Miller's Godfather and taught him how to play the guitar!!! Les nicknamed him Stevie "Guitar Boy" Miller. 🎸
