Fly Like an Eagle (the album long version), Swingtown, I Wanna Make the World Turn Around, and Dance Dance Dance. And about 100 more. He toured last year at almost 80. Played for 2 hours straight. Hit after hit. People of all ages at the show. All singing along.
The line "I'm a picker, I'm a grinner" is a reference to an old country music variety show called "Hee Haw". The show had a recurring segment where the hosts, Buck Owens and Roy Clark, would sit down and play riffs on guitar and banjo, frequently pausing to tell short (and very corny) jokes. It would always start out with one of them saying, "I'm a-pickin'!" and the other would respond "And I'm a-grinnin'!" It was the closest thing we had to a "meme" in the days before the internet. :D
This was also sampled by the Ghetto Boys in their song Gangster of Love. Steve Miller's Greatest Hits is full of great songs. It has sold over 17 million copies.
That was fun. Can't believe you never heard that one before. In 1978, they released Greatest Hits 1974-78, which has been certified 13× Platinum in the United States and in Canada.. Mega-multi-platinum album.
Yes, I do not know if they were his first chords but not many people know that. If I recall correctly Steve Miller and Boz Skaggs played together also is the late 60's. Long story short, 1975 I played in a band, we got a gig at the Bloomsburg Pa. fair when I was a twelve-year old. Les Paul was the head liner and final - right after us - as we left the stage he brought me up on stage to play along side him, asked me to pick a song, I suggested Thelonious Monk's Straight, No Chaser at first, we agreed on Autumn Leaves.
Steve Miller is from the Garland, Texas, area. He and Boz Skaggs were best friends in junior high and High School at St. Marks in Plano. I met Steve in the early days when he was starting out. From what I remember, he and my boss went to school together and lived on the same block growing up in Garland, TX. Boz played in the Steve Miller Band until he went out on his own. They are great local guys.
Well my parents weren't too happy when I brought this record home. 😂. "Midnight Toker". Steve is from Milwaukee where I reside. Thx Britt! You 70's hippie.😊😊
Yes, Shaggy's song used the same beat, maybe even sampled? I believe Shaggy used elements of Angel of the Morning by Merilee Rush in his song as well. Maybe you should check out Angel of the Morning. It's like Shaggy mashed The Joker and Angel of the Morning together.
I worked at the high school print shop when this came out. Got my girlfriend to explain to me what the Pompatus of love was. My life changed forever at that moment.
The lyrics I really love your peaches wanna shake your tree Steve Miller didn't write. He got it from a 1957 song by an R & B group called The Clovers that was called Lovey Dovey.
Well, of course, I like the version when he was younger and the song was a lot more tighter and a lot more energetic. This was still very good. This was a very very laid back version - very casual.
Well, Angel of the Morning was written in 1967 and had many covers. I remember The Joker from early seventies, and I loved it. Seems Miller borrowed some lyrics from a fifties song.
Hot damn! A great song from my high school years! OMG. Dickey Betts died today. What a loss. I'll have to listen to Pony Boy tonight as he tears up his Gold Top! Pony Boy carry me home...
Mrs.Britt, I mean what can I say, you did good on this one, Steve Miller band was a must have during road trips !!! Young lady, keep doin what'chu do best...smiling, dancing, and reacting !!!
Saw them open at the Mpls. Labor Temple in 1967 for the headline act “Iron Butterfly” (remember “In-a-gadda-da-vida”). They stole the show and never stopped with at songs in the top100 every decade for 50 years.
Stevie Guitar Miller if you want to know what he liked playing prelabel grooming... "Your Cash Ain't Nothing But Trash" and "Come On into My kitchen" Both live from Winterland. Great songs.
Yeah, the Steve Miller Band has a catalog you can get lost in. A very unique and varied sound that assured their place at the top of the charts throughout my teens and beyond. I cracked up at your description of them looking like the coolest dads... yeah, they're still touring, but my first two LPs were Fly Like and Eagle and Book of Dreams and I had those on 8-Track tapes in the mid 1970's.
I remember when CDs were first introduced nearly everyone I knew had the Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits CD. I think most of them (as did I) joined one of those record clubs that would sell you 8 CDs for only 1 penny! This seemed like a fantastic deal until you realized you were on the hook to buy something like 10 more CDs at 30 bucks apiece!
My favs by him are "Serenade" and "Fly Like an Eagle". In the 70s we were hopeful about the future and those songs were futuristic, musical, thoughtful, and cool. I sure hope you get to them. Please hit the studio versions!
I saw Steve in London, UK back in the 70s. The concert started pretty late ( 11pm?), and me and some friends drove to London-in a snow storm - straight from finishing work in the north of England. Oh yes, and I fell asleep in the middle of the show ( nothing to do with Steve, who I love ) because I was just so tired!
We were lucky enough to get to see Steve Miller tour with The Eagles this past fall. It was supposed to be another band but some reason they had to cancel so they stepped in. This was one of the best concerts I have even seen!
" Angle of the Morning " was also covered by Juice Newton. Steve Miller Band is in a League of their own. "I'm a Picker " is using a triangle shaped object instead of using your fingers while playing guitar.
I a picker, I am grinned, I am a lover, I am sinner, I am joker, a smoker, a midnight toker, I sure don't want to Noone. One of my favorite songs especially for a road trip.
I'm not familiar with Shaggy (beyond the Scooby Doo reference), but by the way you hummed the piece in question, Shaggy lifted the melody from "Angel Of The Morning", first performed in 1967 by Evie Sands. In 1981 it was covered by Juice Newton, and charted quite well. I just found the Shaggy video, definitely a re-skinned "Angel Of The Morning."
Hey Britt, you mentioned Shaggy's "Angel" which was a sample of another song. You might not know that the tune was originally made popular by Merrilee Rush (titled "Angel of the Morning") back in 1968. You may want to check that one out. It was written by Chip Taylor who also wrote "Wild Thing" (done by the Troggs and covered by Jimi Hendrix). BTW - Chip Taylor is Angelina Jolie's uncle.
Back in the 70s we had the Midnight Special airing a new live episode every Friday at 1am EST, Recently the Midnight Special has begun reissuing those old episodes in chronological order live every Friday night at 8pm EST. This Friday hosted by the Steve Miller Band (1974) ruclips.net/video/C25ALC4fHRA/видео.htmlsi=eKJ8_s6FN43Q0qii if you would like to see the 70s musical groups live and in their heyday this is a channel you might find entertaining
Love me some Steve Miller - "Wild Mountain Honey" is a super chill tune. I have to mention Allen Toussaint's "Soul Sister" here though, which has a very similar groove to "The Joker". Room for both in the world, but like to get Allen some recognition whenever I can!
Ive literally said that to more than girl. " Youre the cutest thing I ever did see " then ruined it with " I really love your peaches wanna shake your tree " My Dad used to play and sing this with the boys back in the day. Damn. 😢
Stevie Guitar Miller.. one of the goats on guitar, Midnight Toker :) and Peaches not Beaches. Joker, Smoker & midnight toker.. Love Steve Miller Band..Fly like an Eagle or Take the Money and run!
fun fact; all of Steve Miller's studio albums were recorded in his home studio Steve did all the tracks himself ! vocals and instruments. the band was strictly for live performance
Angel of the Morning is by Juice Newton. Mr. Steven Miller knows what he's doing. He took guitar lessons from Muddy Waters. Seriously. His daddy was rich.
"I 'm a picker, I'm a grinner, I'm a lover and I'm a sinner really don't want to hurt no one. I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker, I get my lovin' on the run." Know this song from my early childhood. My oldest brother pretty much listened to white bands that played soft rock.❤ this song. It brings back beautiful memories .
"I really love your peaches want to shake your tree." And yes, it means what you think it means.
😂🤣
Since I was a kid I always thought he said "I really love your FEATURES..." 🤣🙃
lol... absolutely , fruit is very good for you.... well balanced nutrition is important 😅
One of those great lines from our great 70s songs
"I've got a hairy bush "1940's song
Steve Miller was mandatory road trip music growing up!💖
Sometimes, it still is.
@@kenf3539Yes. It is!

Good List! I almost forgot about "Dance Dance Dance". And for some reason it reminded me of "Wild Mountain Honey", which I also love.
@@maybedrinkin3241And Winter Time.
Shaggy used the song "Angel Of The Morning" for his own "Angel". 😉
Beat me to it.
And this bass line
Juice Newton
Written by Chip Taylor, Jon Voight's brother & Angelina Jolie's uncle
Chip Taylor also wrote "Wild Thing". (Done by the Troggs and later covered by Jimi Hendrix.)
Song was everywhere when I was in sixth grade. In 1973.
I was in 5th, but loved the album
Hey we are the same age 👍🏻
Thanks!!!... He speaks to the "pompatus" of love .. Take the Money and Run is another excellent choice...
Steve actually made up the word "Pompatus" LOL
@@bigb6046 Yup, it's a nonce word. Wade uo to suit the song.

Girl, you’re hitting on some fabulous music tonight!!
The Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits ‘74-‘78 is GOLD.
Love Steve Miller Band - the live version is great - a little different from the studio. Try 'Take the Money and Run'. Also very nice!
The live version was good, but man, the studio version was awesome!
Just good fun. Great for a summer afternoon. Steve Miller band always has good energy - check out "Jet Airliner".
Get on board the 707...
His Greatest Hits 1974-1978 is a full album great. Not a single flaw.
Great album. I was given that for Christmas, when it was new. Haha
One of my favorites
It’s hard to believe that this song is 50 years old!!
70S BAAAABBY
Yes "toker". You smoke a cigarette but you take a "toke" off of a joint!
puff puff pass ✌💖☮
70's weed jargon
@nashkita77 it's still weed jargon.
Always a favorite
I'm doing right now 💨💨💨
This was also sampled by the Ghetto Boys in their song Gangster of Love. Steve Miller's Greatest Hits is full of great songs. It has sold over 17 million copies.
"Really love your peaches wanna shake your tree"
I love Jungle love by Steve Miller
One of the most underrated talents of the '60's and '70's but he was up against
stiff competition.
Tokin’ on a doobie is what he means by “midnight toker”😅
puff puff pass ✌💖☮
Steve's early music was the best. Saw him in concert a couple of times in the early 70's. Always puts on a good concert.
Steve Miller Band
Wild Mountain Honey
Wintertime. Swingtown. Nothing bad on that album.
That was fun. Can't believe you never heard that one before. In 1978, they released Greatest Hits 1974-78, which has been certified 13× Platinum in the United States and in Canada.. Mega-multi-platinum album.
Steve Miller = great music and lotsa smiles.
Les Paul was his God Father and taught Steve his first chords on guitar.
Wow. I didn't know that. It makes sense....
Yes, I do not know if they were his first chords but not many people know that. If I recall correctly Steve Miller and Boz Skaggs played together also is the late 60's.

Best concert I ever saw Steve Miller and Pat Benatar mud island Memphis Tennessee 1994. Phenomenal talent
I miss the amphitheater at Mud Island. I saw many great concerts there

Come on Georgia girl, "I really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree"! Love your reactions as always. ❤
this Georgia boy LOVES peaches, sweet juicy Georgia peaches ✌💖☮
Take the money and run is my favorite smb song
Huge catalog of great music. Jet airliner, jungle love, take the money and run, fly like an eagle.
Cute that you didn’t know what a “toker” was. Smoking weed. One of my favorites from my teen age years.
Steve is 80 and touring with Journey
Well my parents weren't too happy when I brought this record home. 😂. "Midnight Toker". Steve is from Milwaukee where I reside. Thx Britt! You 70's hippie.😊😊
Astonished no one has suggested their song Fly Like An Eagle. When that came out, it was on the radio atleadt once a hour !!!
Fabulous song!! “I really love your peaches want to shake your tree” and yup he meant zactly what you’re thinking!! Lol
One of the first concerts I ever saw, 'Steve Miller Band'. Fly Like An Eagle Tour😊🎸🤘
One of my favorite bands...I love all of their songs...I go way back to the 70's with Steve.
The Shggy sample you are thinking of came from "Angel Of The Morning" by Merilee Rush which Juice Newton did a cover of in the 1980s.
Band filled with the coolest dads.....Well put. 😁

One of my all time favorite songs! I love how you are into the 70’s.
Such an iconic song, I had not heard it played live more recently, still sounds so good and so cool...
Huge band in the late 70’s. Steve Miller was awesome in concert, 1978 in Portland. I still have him on my playlist!
Hey, I'm first! Yay... Juice Newton did Angel of the Morning. Wonder if that's the same as the Shaggy song you're thinking about?
Well, Angel of the Morning was written in 1967 and had many covers. I remember The Joker from early seventies, and I loved it. Seems Miller borrowed some lyrics from a fifties song.
Yup, that's the one which was itself a cover of the 1968 Merrilee Rush hit - Angel of the Morning.
Yeah, Shaggy used that song and the bass line from this song
Studio version definitely worth a listen! Musical production is very cool.
It is!
Fly like an eagles was the first album I owned. 8 track tape.
Wow I’m old
Hot damn! A great song from my high school years! OMG. Dickey Betts died today. What a loss. I'll have to listen to Pony Boy tonight as he tears up his Gold Top! Pony Boy carry me home...
Great classic tune. Try Jungle Love and Swingtown too.
Golly, I had forgotten about Swingtown. What a GREAT song.
Can't be stunned by something I've heard for 50 years 😊 but it is good. Glad enjoyed it.

Good old three-chord rock and roll.

Shaggy's song is a sample from 'Angel of the Morning' by Juice Newton
I bought the album back in the day...He had a great sound
Hello Britt Reacts, I first heard S.M.B. on the radio playing " Living in the u.S.A. ".
My favs by him are "Serenade" and "Fly Like an Eagle". In the 70s we were hopeful about the future and those songs were futuristic, musical, thoughtful, and cool. I sure hope you get to them. Please hit the studio versions!
Seen these guy's 3xs in Michigan in the early 90's, they sound just like the record..💯🤟 Tons of hit songs..🤟
Perfect first song reaction for Steve Miller Band!!! I prefer the recorded version but amazing song

I have only heard the studio version of this song but the live sounds great. This song always makes me smile 😊
He had been singing that for about 20 plus years when that live was recorded. The studio version was great

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE should be next!
Steve Miller is one of my favorites. Many people don't know but Les Paul, the famous guitar maker, is Steve's Godfather.
SMB...jet airliner...cool song
Love this song love this band love that you love it!
I loved it when these guys used to open for the Grateful Dead. Bay Area friends for decades.

When your toking at midnight your smoking that wacky tobacky, also known as the Devil's lettuce.
Can’t wait to see them in concert this summer.
Ooooweee love me some Steve Miller & Space Cowboy💖🪐🌌🌙✨
Yes the real song was Angel of the morning then Shaggy. Changed it up and put this song in the background!
