We did. It's actually one of the biggest-selling albums of all-time. Of course, you still had to get *Book Of Dreams* to get the *real* version of "Jet Airliner!!!!" 😊

The greatest hits 74 - 78 was mandatory to buy in the 80's when I was a teen. He had hits before and after that time period but he was in an amazing run them. I was happy you had the original version and not the edited for radio funky Kicks going down in the city version.
Really happy to see Steve Miller band get some run, I think he and they are probably one of the most overlooked and forgotten pieces of rock genius. And as you noted with your story about the folksinger, he’s truly a special human being. If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to watch the way he destroyed the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame at his intro.
I used to travel quite a bit as a service technician. Lots of miles on airliners in the 70s and 80s. This song and "leaving on a Jetplane" always meant a lot to me. I liked traveling, but I like living on my 24 acres of woods these days too. Great memories with these songs.
I sing it to my kids when the forget to shut off lights in the house. Big Ol Jed left a light on. I can’t remember where that misheard lyric comes from, but I love it.
Whenever I hear this song, it strikes me how anachronistic the reference to a "707" is. Even when the song was written in 1973, the 707 was already getting old.

It actually is sort of Steve Miller-related. Boz Scaggs was briefly a member of the Steve Miller Band in the 1960s. Before that, they had played together as teenagers in a band called the Marksmen.

Steve Miller took some time in the mid 70s to write some songs. When he was done he had 2 albums worth.....those songs became the albums Book of Dreams and Fly Like an Eagle. An amazing burst of songwriting.

Saw Steve Miller in concert 3 years ago with Peter Frampton. They did roughly a 30 minute jam session together. It was an awesome concert

Pan Am put them in commercial service in 1958, and new ones were built thru 1978. Probably the most successful early jetliner.
