I believe portions of the Crunge were used in the Madison Square Garden 73 version of Whole Lotta Love in the breakdown section. If not that, it has to be the Whole Lotta Love live version from How the West Was Won.
That's what no one realises about Zeppelin, there is soooo much more than what the radio plays. They had so many great songs, with different sounds. That's why they are, and have been since my teen years (many moons ago lol) my all time favorite.
I'm sad that most of what I always hear from them on the radio are D'yer M'aker, Immigrant song and Whole lotta love. Songs like The crunge, In the light and For your life are what make Led Zeppelin a creative and awesome band!

According to John Paul Jones, whenever you caught John Bonham listening to music on his own time, it was usually James Brown, Motown, or Philly soul. And you don't have to listen very hard to John Bonham's playing to hear those influences come out loud and clear.

If you were a musician in the '70s, you probably were into everthing, because it was all about the music and nothing else. I can totally imagine Led Zeppelin being totally into James Brown back then.
one of their greatest abilities, was their ability to play anything, from the tender love song to funk, hard rock, the arrangements, the inclusive instruments, the experimentation.....these weren't just players, masters of their respective instruments, they were musicians, lovers of the trade, all of it....all 4 of them could play multiple instruments, for. ex. Bonham wasn't just a 'Drummer' he was a 'Percussionist'

Zepplin was a fantastic sum of its parts. Everything they did was great writing, GREAT musicians, and besides the obvious talents of Bonham and Page, they had a suuuuuper secret weapon...John Paul Jones.
Went to see Mr. James Brown with some friends, and we were all trying to figure out when he would bust out the cape. Turns out first song is the answer. And about three times after that, all different capes of course, sequins, purple, gold, and other colors. Quite a show. THE Hardest Working Man In Showbiz! And of course The Godfather Of Soul. A person worthy of devotion by Led Zeppelin.
This song is a clinic in so many aspects of music that it's almost not believable. Playing this style in sync like that, it's difficult but always seamless with these guys.

The Houses of the Holly album was Zepps fifth album and the first album where there was a big shift in style from the first four albums. and led to the continuation of the Style change with the Physical Graffiti album. both great albums.

The band, kinda tongue in cheek, wanted to create a dance called "the Crunge" - Jimmy even went so far as to research getting dance moves (you know the ones on a sheet of paper that shoes where the feet move?) printed on the inside of the album but ended up not doing it because it would over run their deadline to get the album out. Sometimes when they'd play bits of this in concert, Robert would shout out "Do the Crunge!".
James Brown is typically solidly 4/4. The Crunge changes time signatures so often it's difficult to keep track. It's really impressive it's so funky with that in mind. It's a little bit like Take 5 by Dave Brubeck.
When Houses of the Holy came out we christened it our number 1 album for dance parties with a few slower tracks when the lights were low. signed: the dolphins under the confounded bridge.
one of the greatest bands in the punk realm, The Minutemen, from San Pedro California, was essentially Crunge, the band,, in the best way. amazing energy, great funny political commentary, tight funky jams, short songs, true brothers.. cut short by tragic car accident killing singer and guitarist D. Boon at the infamous age of 27. if u were anywhere in the early naughties you know the opening riff to their song 'Corona' as the theme song to jackass, but I would recommend starting with their song and video 'This Aint No Picnic', talkin about the same ish we talking about today. Legends.

King.......Little Richard.....Billy Preston....in the 60's. The band, kinda tongue in cheek, wanted to create a dance called "the Crunge" - Jimmy even went so far as to research getting dance moves (you know the ones on a sheet of paper that shoes where the feet move?) printed on the inside of the album but ended up not doing it because it would over run their deadline to get the album out. Sometimes when they'd play bits of this in concert, Robert would shout out "Do the Crunge!".
James Brown is typically solidly 4/4. The Crunge changes time signatures so often it's difficult to keep track. It's really impressive it's so funky with that in mind. It's a little bit like Take 5 by Dave Brubeck.
When Houses of the Holy came out we christened it our number 1 album for dance parties with a few slower tracks when the lights were low.

one of the greatest bands in the punk realm, The Minutemen, from San Pedro California, was essentially Crunge, the band,, in the best way. amazing energy, great funny political commentary, tight funky jams, short songs, true brothers.. cut short by tragic car accident killing singer and guitarist D. Boon at the infamous age of 27. if u were anywhere in the early naughties you know the opening riff to their song 'Corona' as the theme song to jackass, but I would recommend starting with their song and video 'This Aint No Picnic', talkin about the same ish we talking about today. Legends.

The critics apparently didn't like this song. I love it & I love J.B. As far as I've looked I can't find a live performance of this song.

Like I said before Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, members of the Beatles...a lot of groups and artist hung out with James Brown....Muddy Waters.....B.B. King.......Little Richard.....Billy Preston....in the 60's. They exchanged music ideas.....songs.....lyrics....talked about concerts....and of course....smoked dope....jammed together......so, a lot of these Rock groups Loved black music and singing....what you get....The Beatles...Led Zeppelin...Deep Purple....Three Dog Night...... CCR, etc. In this song....it is a tribute to his friend James Brown......like it? Knew you would!!!! Not like today....Rock folks hung out other music folks!!!!
