Not a single soul could EVER play like Stevie could with just a year of experience. Stevie put his blood sweat and tears, his emotions and his soul into guitar for years on end. It's a very deep rabbit hole listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan. I suggest you guys just keep going as it gets even better. More tricks, more talent, more range... He is one of the best guitar players ever to walk the earth, and without a doubt the best blues guitar player. This was the end of the "Disco" era and SRV and Double Trouble brought the blues back. By the way, he couldn't read or write music, he just could play. suggestions for more SRV.. Live without You, Riviera Paradise, So Excited, Scuttle Buttn, Little Wing, Look at Little Sister, Tin Pan Alley... You can find multiple versions of these songs on here but stay with the live as much as you can. The man was an incredible showman. I grew up in Houston, TX and saw him live here and several times while at UT in Austin. You just can't imagine how loud that guitar was in person. He also had the best band and one fantastic keyboard player (Reese Wynans) who is still playing today. Enjoy enjoy enjoy... Love the 3 of you reacting and discussion.
@@JayLandon64 I also think Stevie's performance live in Tokyo really shows how intense & focused as one with his guitar in his playing which came deep down from the soul. While showing the struggles he lived & dealt with in life to create the energy vibe in his music he gave to the world. Just saying... +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friends+ 🤘😜🤘
More fun facts: By age 9 he was playing electric guitar. Aged 11 he started performing with his first band. By mid teens he was gigging professionally.
My guy!!❤There is so much I want to tell you about my pal, Stevie. He was self taught, never learned to read or write music (though he wrote songs), struggled with drugs and alcohol from a young age, got clean and sober in 1990, was even better than before, then was killed in a helicopter crash after a show that left the guitar Gods of that time floored by his performance. He was the kindest, most gentle human, and as humble as he was talented. Our last words to each other were “love yous.” Keep going with Stevie! There's a whole bunch of live performances that Stevie did that's worth watching. One really impressive one is where he and his older brother Jimmy Vaughn (of The Fabulous Thunderbirds) are playing the instrumental tune PIPELINE together at the same time..... on the same guitar. 😁
I usually don't comment - SRV had a talent that is difficult to duplicate. Born and raised in Texas, he and his brother were masters of the guitar, but he outshined his brother. There are few who could play in a lifetime like this - it is a gift. He died in 1990 - he was also influenced by Jimi Hendrix and even mimics some moves of Hendrix in some of his music. Two Hendrix pieces that he plays to perfection are Vodoo Child and Little Wing. Very few people can play behind their backs let alone forward as masterful as he did. He was on a totally different level. He also played with unusually thick strings that are difficult to play on.
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness For the next two in the holy trinity of SRV vids: **Life Without You at Capitol Theater** **Voodoo Child at Austin City Limits 1989**
@saorsa5 Thank you for the compliment, my friend. Stevie was an otherworldly talent, so I'm just trying to let the younger generation know how truly special he was.
Truly a legend that is greatly missed. I have played at the El Mo about 8 years ago and yep it is hot on stage. It's a small venue in downtown Toronto that holds 500 to 600 people max, and the house lights are very low, almost blinding you. What a treat it was to have him give one of his greatest performances ever!
I can tell you that I used to watch SRV in bars around Dallas when he was a TEEN and not even old enough to be in the bars. When you can play at this level; it's literally part of your DNA. You couldn't accomplish this in a year if you played every day unless you are one of the few with this embedded in your DNA. His brother Jimmy is a musician. A good one even but even he will tell you that this ain't normal and everyone cant do it even with practice. Some people attribute ot to fineness but SRV said he doesn't play with fineness. He said "I play like I'm breaking out of jail". Lol
ANYTHING SRV plays live is awesome! His singing and playing in Tin pan Alley with Jonny copland or Living without you, in NJ really shows of his singing skills
This is what I grew up with!!! This is music!!! Puts all ALL ALL current music talent to shame!!! No beats, no bars, no auto tune, no computer boards, no dancers.
What makes SRV so relatable to everyone is his “soul to soul” playing from the heart. Everyone can relate and feel the notes him and his guitar (Number One) are making because it speaks to us.
"Check out his vocals on "Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up On Love," his aggression on "Leave My Girl Alone" (Austin '89), his humanity on "Life Without You" (Capitol Theater), his smooth moves on "Look At Little Sister" (Austin '89), his absolute joy + speed on "Lovestruck Baby" / "Rude Mood" (Daytona Beach), and his grace and exquisite composition on "Riviera Paradise." He was truly one with his guitar. Such a legend, lost at just age 35 in a tragic helicopter crash following a concert in August 1990.
Take 15 years? Take a year?! Do you know he was the greatest guitar slinger in history? An absolute legend, where you knew his name before ever hearing anything by him? I would say it takes a big boost from God to even think about playing like that, a rare heart and soul, then focused practice and real experience on the road. He met and was friends with many greats, picking up skills in his travels playing bars and clubs and such. But that was your impression after seeing him for only a minute. I imagine you will be changing that estimate soon enough. Although when I saw Stevie live I new in 10 seconds I was in the presence of something extraordinary. And he kept it up for an hour and a half of mind blowing guitar magic. Something I think about this particular song. He's sings 'Man it's about to drive poor Stevie Ray insane'. The guitar that follows is supposed to be what his mind feels like as he's losing it. And when the guitar is behind his back it's like he's in mental handcuffs, or trying to get out of a mental straight jacket. Then his problem is solved, he knows what to do, he's leaving her, and with no guitar between him and the microphone it's like he's extra in your face when he says he's leaving. This is more than a song, it's like theater, except the agony and turmoil is expressed with relentless rapid fire notes and special effect guitar sounds full of anger and frustration. This is why Stevie Ray Vaughan was next level. His ability to play, but also his ability to express intense emotion. And his face, ha, he's living the anguish of his imagined predicament with all the phone lines down. I miss him terribly. I would see him every time he came to NYC, if I could get tickets. I saw him 7 times. I would always bring a date because half the fun of SRV was watching another person's mind get blown. These reactions are that fun again, on a small scale. SRV! The GOAT!
I had the same reaction as you the first time I seen this...I said this is to sacred for public viewing 😅 it feels like a wreckless train ride he's taking us through but he gets all to our destination...still blows me away❤ great reaction!
Thanks, Kids - (please know that I don't mean to be condescending by calling you "kids" - I'm 63 yrs. old, and it's just how I have come to address people younger than I..lol) SRV was, indeed "the GOAT" with blues guitar (and vocals).. I really enjoy seeing younger people "discover" him.. gone too soon! I appreciate all of your reactions! (p.s. what about that "stank face" and that crazy fashion style?) I hope you listen to more by SRV!.. also, I deliberately didn't bother to mention the "behind the back"... I am writing this before I see your reactions to that... lol
Being from Texas, the real trick with this particular song is to hear the rain, thunder & lightning. Heavy to light, thunderstorms are awesome & SRV will take you there. 🇺🇸💙
I've been playing since I was 9 and I'm 21 now. I consider myself an advanced guitar player and yet with all the time I've put into playing guitar I don't think I'll ever be able to play like SRV. Some of his ability came from years of practice but I believe he was just born with immense talent. I'd suggest watching him play Little Wing at El Mocambo next.
Stevie was one of a kind. We are blessed to have been here at the same time he was. Oddly enough, Stevie didn't start out singing. Their band had a singer who quit right before a show they were scheduled to play. They wondered who they were going to get to sing when Stevie offered to "give it a shot." He couldn't read music. Everything he played just poured out from his soul. What an amazing God given talent!
BB King said of himself, “When I play.. I have to think about what I’m about to play; and I play in sentences. Stevie ain’t like that.. he don’t have to think about what he’s going to play; and he plays in paragraphs.” Stevie grew up in South Oak Cliff (south Dallas), TX and went to the same HS as my late mother-in-law. He started playing guitar at 7yo with his older brother Jimmy, to fit in. He was always a small guy and the guitar helped him with the ladie (lol). He played with multiple gage strings but primarily 13’s.. which is insane. He was known to have huge hands with a “hydraulic handshake.” Despite all his challenges growing up, only touring for for a short time with his band Double Trouble, he’s credited as being one of the most influential and talented guitarists ever of any genre. His life was short… but powerful. RIP Stevie🙏🏻
The true Mark of greatness is when you know instantly who's playing the guitar.. I had the exact same reaction to Stevie way back in 1980. He inspired me to want to pick up the guitar and learn to play it
Stevie was a master guitarist. He knew every single sound that guitar could make and he had the expertise to bring out those sounds anytime anywhere without looking.
I hgjly suggest Life Without You at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ written by Stevie for his close friend Charlie Wirz who was a mentor to Stevie and they worked on guitars together. It's his best vocal great solo and a great message . It's my favorite.
Stevie Ray Vaughan routinely had jam sessions with the likes of Albert King(lifelong friend) and BB King All three are in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame and considered the hallmark standard The three gentlemen were your favorite guitar players favorites
So enjoy seeing the newer generations appreciating (perhaps even falling in love with!) Stevie Ray...I'm a Gen-X woman in Seattle who was lucky enough to see him live when I was 15, too young to really appreciate him at the time...he passed away in that helicopter crash less than a year later. Still getting chills from his music 35 years later...pay it forward y'all ❤
It took his entire life, there aint no "1 year" and play like this. He is a Grand Master, knowledgeable in all things blues, could play you this song in 6 different and distinct blues styles and make it look effortless. That expression is often referred to as "Stank face", and you won't catch Stevie without it when he is jamming. Young pink lady said a mouthful when she calls out his endurance. The strings he played on were essentially the heaviest available practically playable strings, and he tears into them like they talked bad about his Meemaw. Want to go ahead and give props to the band, they murdered the fuck out of it, left no fuck unmurdered.
I was (in school) in the concert, marching and jazz bands with saxophone and trumpet all the way from 1980-87. Then I heard SRV play "The Sky is crying", an Albert King cover and I haven't played either since. I got a stratocaster and been playing now for over 35 years.
Y'all should consider watching Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan- "Look at Little Sister". Talk about someone who plays like Stevie Ray (as best he can ), but without a strap. Oh, and he's also blind. You will be as thrilled as you were watching this video. It's a performance of a lifetime. 👌💯💣💥
It takes a lot longer than a year, and it takes a lot more than just time. Everyone can improve over time, but not everybody can reach the levels that this man did. Very few can. He wasn’t playing the guitar, he was the guitar.
SRV is the goat. Rip I love seeing young people experiencing a master of the Blues. Albert King said Stevie would mystifie guitarists for generations. Do yourself a favor and listen to tin pan alle.
People who play for their entire lives still cannot play like this. It is a true gift from god. I really believe he was blessed with more musical ability than any normal human. Him and Hendrix and honestly from different worlds.
SRV was and still is the greatest guitarist ever. Born and raised here in Dallas, Texas, SRV was our own and we take great pride and in claiming him as ours. Have missed him everyday since that horrible day in 1990 when SRV was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in Wisconsin. . SRV started playing the guitar when he was around 7 years old and around the age of 12 years old, he walked up to a stage where Blues Legend Albert King was playing and asked, can I play with you, which no one ever did that. SRV created his own genre, Texas Blues, which is more in your face, nasty, note bending, aggressive playing unlike the regular blues aka Chicago blues where you play a note and then sing a little for a bar or 2 then play another couple of notes...One side note...Hendrix was the innovator...SRV is the Master...One last side note...SRV played by ear only. Could not read music...SRV played size 12 strings, which are basically bass guitar strings. A normal guitar has size 6 strings. He truly was a God send from God Himself. Closest thing to SRV...Kenny Wayne Shepherd. If you ever wanna talk SRV, im here. I'll talk SRV 24 - 7 with y'all
One year??? Pffft! You higher than Stevie was if you believe that. (I saw him sober rt before he died & he tore a hole in the sky with his guitar 🎸 that night.) RIP Guitar God. One of few true Masters.
Srv picked up the guitar at age 7. Obviously, he rarely put it down after that. He also had the best "stank face" in the business. Pure music, no theatrics. I love watching youngsters being impressed by actual musicianship.
You have to sleep with the guitar, whisper sweet nothings into it's ear, make breakfast, buy lunch and dinner, tell the mother in law to piss off, work two shifts, and make the kids ball games, to play like that....and love every minute of it! 😂❤
I had a guitar teacher tell me that if I quit my job, lived under a bridge, and played 8 hours a day every day for 2 years that I could sound pretty close to SRV. At that time I had been playing for about 12 years. Why I had to live under a bridge, I have no clue, but that was about 25 years ago and I don't sound anything like SRV today. This man had a very special gift that not everyone can acquire. That's why he's recognized by many as the G.O.A.T.
I used to see SRV and Double Trouble play every year at the pier in NYC. Always amazing and always had great warm ups. When I moved to Chicago, I got tickets, so my X could experience his show, but he died in a helicopter crash on the way from Wisconsin. 🚁😪 Such skills.
Your comment that you felt like you shouldn't be seeing an intimate moment between SRV and his guitar was brilliant. I saw him play live twice, and I think we can share the same perspective: we were just blessed to see true greatness.
Grear reaction. Stevie Ray was and is the GOAT. Heavy strings, no in-ears or click tracks, just an open channel which poured music from his soul to our ears. Per comments listen to "life Without You" ... there are at least 4 live videos of this. See if you can hear the nuances. They are the same and unique at the same time. Ans there is a surprise in each one. RIP Stevie.
Check out Band Maid. Start with Domination live. Made me cry. It’s hard rock but I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I heard them. They are great.
I saw SRV at Mesker Park Amphitheater Evansville Indiana before the accident. Blew my metal Head away. Then I saw the Grateful Dead 6/28/92 peaking at the Creek. Good times
SRV is a beast! How his guitar was tuned, the strings themselves are mostly custom(thicker gauge) and the action is high off the fret board. To play his music is truly a workout as a result. Knowing this now demonstrates how hard he plays!!
Y'all just watched a Master of the guitar! He was the best blue's guitarist of all time! "Life without You", Mary had a Little Lamb, and many many more!
Watch him play, life without you, has a beautiful message too, gives you an insight to the person he was, he was the best yet humble. Anint gonna give up on love, shows his vocals, all his performances has something special
Stevie Ray, Texas Flood, live at El Mocambo..... GOAT live electric blues guitar performance ever caught on video. And Chris (drums) and Tommy (bass), just laying down a groove in the road that will never lead you astray, takes you to the promised land everytime... And, no, sorry man, but nobody could learn to play and sound like this in a years. I think Stevie was 30 something this video, and he'd been playing since he was a kid. I've been playing for decades, and maybe I can string together a few bits, maybe a couple of bars that come close. I live in the ATX area, and frankly there are some kids who have only been playing 10 or so years who can come much closer than me, so I'm not claiming to be a great player like this. John Mayer has done it from time to time, but not like this performance, this is the best of Stevie in my opinion. I don't think there's anyone else who could hold it together at that level for a whole performance like Stevie, from the first down beat, to his last drop of sweat. And these reactions, priceless, the smiles, the stank faces, amazed and perplexed looks on their faces, and then there's more...there's always more.... just when you think he's given you everything, there's more...

And his karma paid off when Bowie & Jackson Browne helped him get started in the business. Thank you for sharing your story.
Wow. I'm truly sorry for the loss. The whole country of fans were shocked and saddened on the news. Thanks for sharing your brother with us for the times of our lives.
The greatest guitar player ever!
Correct on all points. Saw him once live after his sobering and he was a beast. Fantastic human being too.
You could stay right in El Mocambo and check out Little Wing, Lenny and many others.
Here’s a performance of a Jimi Hendrix song from Stevie and his band Double Trouble shortly before his passing. Put on your seatbelts!

Actually, Stevie kicked his cocaine and alcohol addiction in the latter part of '86.
@@alanberg5575 you are so right! Don’t know what I did there. Brain glitch! Thanks for the correction. I’m so happy for this wonderful attention and love he is getting! Take care. Donna❤️
@@Donnagilbert6497 Hey, no problem, Donna. You nailed the rest of it!! By the way, I'm rather envious that you knew Stevie personally. God bless you!!
@@alanberg5575 I was very lucky to have a connection with him. We had very little time to get to really know each other well, but I’m grateful for the time we had.❤️
SRV=GOAT....speed, accuracy, flow, feel, pure talent, channeling soul through the guitar....humble and kind man as well....the world was a better place with SRV...performed like this multiple times a week for hours and hours all unbelievable and never they same way twice...just pure raw talent...other greats have said they felt like beginners on stage with SRV because it just came so easy to him whereas they had to put more effort in to sound as good
SRV is the GOAT of the blues guitar. No one then or now has the talent SRV had just in his pinky finger. The man wasn't human.
The GOAT RIP Steave
First... You have to be a born prodigy. Then years exploring the possibilities.
No one has been able to play like Stevie in a lifetime except Stevie. The GOAT!
There's a whole bunch of live performances that Stevie did that's worth watching. One really impressive one is where he and his older brother Jimmy Vaughn (of The Fabulous Thunderbirds) are playing the instrumental tune PIPELINE together at the same time..... on the same guitar. 😁
A year??😂😂😂😂this GREATEST of all time,no one is like SRV
💙💙💙💙💙… Stevie Ray Vaughan brought me here…🔥🔥🔥 Lovely reaction! Subscribed!
He was one of the best to ever walk the planet
Man I love the blues and SRV is the gold standard❤
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness
For the next two in the holy trinity of SRV vids:
**Life Without You at Capitol Theater**
**Voodoo Child at Austin City Limits 1989**
Love your goatest comment on just about every srv reaction brilliant mate 👍
Simply the best blues guitarist ever. I went into a real depression when he died, he was my hero.
This is what I grew up with!!! This is music!!! Puts all ALL ALL current music talent to shame!!! No beats, no bars, no auto tune, no computer boards, no dancers.
It’s called SRV reached Nirvana when he mastered the skill of playing just as good behind his back. His talent was God given.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was one of a kind and we miss him😢rip
That guitar is weeping deeper than singing. DAILY FOR ONE YEAR??😂😂😂 no way buddy. This is a lifetime of playing and learning. That’s PASSION & talent.
What's it take to be that good? A love and dedication to the instrument. Knowledge and love of the music and thousands of hours of practice
SRV! The GOAT!
You nailed it, brother!!
I am writing this before I see your reactions to that... lol
Yeah, I had to hold off on that one too behind the back❤😂🎉
Being from Texas, the real trick with this particular song is to hear the rain, thunder & lightning. Heavy to light, thunderstorms are awesome & SRV will take you there. 🇺🇸💙
Rest in peace SRV. The world is a lesser place without you.
You can teach someone to play a guitar, even play well but, you can't teach greatness it's talent and mad skills.
Stevie ain’t like that.. he don’t have to think about what he’s going to play; and he plays in paragraphs.”
Stevie grew up in South Oak Cliff (south Dallas), TX and went to the same HS as my late mother-in-law. He started playing guitar at 7yo with his older brother Jimmy, to fit in. He was always a small guy and the guitar helped him with the ladie (lol). He played with multiple gage strings but primarily 13’s.. which is insane. He was known to have huge hands with a “hydraulic handshake.”
Despite all his challenges growing up, only touring for for a short time with his band Double Trouble, he’s credited as being one of the most influential and talented guitarists ever of any genre. His life was short… but powerful. RIP Stevie🙏🏻
The true Mark of greatness is when you know instantly who's playing the guitar.. I had the exact same reaction to Stevie way back in 1980. He inspired me to want to pick up the guitar and learn to play it
Stevie played from the soul. I saw him play live twice and he was amazing.
Testify first song at el mocambo watched him play for three hours without stopping just unbelievable,
Stevie was a master guitarist.
It's my favorite.
i love the look on the faces of people who didn't see him play .we miss you STEVIE
Stevie was gifted. If I tried for a million years I would still suck. I saw him live in 1988. No words.
Takes many years with a ear for music and the drive too do it with heart and soul.yes he started as a young kid.
Stevie Ray Vaughan routinely had jam sessions with the likes of Albert King(lifelong friend) and BB King
All three are in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame and considered the hallmark standard
The three gentlemen were your favorite guitar players favorites
B.B.King called him the greatest blues guitarist he'd ever seen.
" I felt like I didn't belong to that. That felt like an intimate moment between just him and his guitar."...... Best reaction quote ever,! 😁
I'll talk SRV 24 - 7 with y'all
More young peeps...listening to real music...live music ..unfiltered...this is encouraging!
BB king said Stevie Ray Vaughan was the greatest guitarist of all time. That’s high praise.
One year??? Pffft! You higher than Stevie was if you believe that. (I saw him sober rt before he died & he tore a hole in the sky with his guitar 🎸 that night.) RIP Guitar God. One of few true Masters.
Stevie was a 1 of 1 - no one plays like this unless you born to play this way. The mold was definitely broken on his birthday 🐐🐐🐐
STEVIE!! He was a phenomenon. A force of nature in blues guitar!
You kids should probably listen to Stevie’s “Riviera Paradise” he considered it his best work!
he is the GOAT
YOU HAVE TO HAVE TALEnT. This doesn't come naturally. PURE TALENT. Nobody compares to SR.
I was fortunate to see him live in 1987 and he put on an amazing show. I’ve been to shows since that don’t even come close.
I was at the Rome Inn (Austin) the night Stevie got married between sets!
I used to see SRV and Double Trouble play every year at the pier in NYC. Always amazing and always had great warm ups. When I moved to Chicago, I got tickets, so my X could experience his show, but he died in a helicopter crash on the way from Wisconsin. 🚁😪
Such skills.
If a year is all that it takes to play like this then we would have thousands of guitar players like this, but we only got 2. SRV and Hendrix.
SRV is up on the goat list. This man literally super glued his finger pads to keep playing!!! For me it’s Jimi and SRV as top GOAT
RIP Stevie.
PLEASE young people, bring rock music back!
Check out Band Maid. Start with Domination live. Made me cry. It’s hard rock but I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I heard them. They are great.
I hope same.👍
Not only can no one play like this in a year, no one can play like this at all! SRV is a legend, a one of a kind.
I saw SRV at Mesker Park Amphitheater Evansville Indiana before the accident.
Blew my metal Head away.
Then I saw the Grateful Dead 6/28/92 peaking at the Creek.
Good times
There are others with the technical skills that Stevie had, but he never ran out of ideas. He could ad lib forever without ever repeating himself.
SRV is a beast! How his guitar was tuned, the strings themselves are mostly custom(thicker gauge) and the action is high off the fret board. To play his music is truly a workout as a result. Knowing this now demonstrates how hard he plays!!
His voice has been described as honey poured over gravel. His song "Mary had a little lamb" live on Austin city limits is incredible.
Y'all just watched a Master of the guitar! He was the best blue's guitarist of all time! "Life without You", Mary had a Little Lamb, and many many more!
Watch him play, life without you, has a beautiful message too, gives you an insight to the person he was, he was the best yet humble. Anint gonna give up on love, shows his vocals, all his performances has something special
takes a lifetime to play like that!!!!!!!!!!
at one point the one young lady said,"that was iconic."no truer words have ever been spoken
And...he did it FLAWLESSLY.
