A few words about Stevie: he's considered by many---myself included---as the greatest guitarist of all time. The band was named "Double Trouble" and had Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums. In '85 they added Reese Wynans on keyboards, and man, could they ever tear up a stage! This performance was in '83 at the El Mocambo club in Toronto, and to many---again myself included---it's considered the greatest guitar work ever captured on film. Not only was his technical prowess, feeling, and showmanship incredible, but he played with extremely heavy strings to achieve the sound he got. His hand and forearm strength, and overall physicality to play like he did was extraordinary. Stevie kicked a horrible addiction to cocaine and alcohol in late '86, and lived the last four years of his life clean, sober and happy before he was killed in a helicopter crash in '90 after his last gig. By the way, he was also a sweet and humble guy, despite the swagger he displayed on stage. To us folks here in Texas, he's extra special and beloved. There will never be another like him, that's for sure!

Pick any song from the Live at El Mocambo hat set and you won't be disappointed. He was simply on fire for the whole show. It's truly one of the greatest live guitar performances ever recorded. During one song, he breaks a string during a solo and switches guitars continuing to wail without missing a beat. It's unbelievable.
One of my all time favorite live performance. Testify is just out of this world. One of my top 5 guitarist of all time for sure.

SRV is in my opinion the greatest guitarist to ever play. He absolutely was best listened to live and always put on an amazing show. If you check him out again I suggest his performance of Little Wing from this same concert.

I agree with you and for me its his ability to ooze so much feeling out of not only his guitar but also out of his soul that separates him from
guys like Jimi and even Gilmour although Gilmour is probably the most ethereal guitarist I have ever heard. Of course when you listen to SRV
you can hear the influences of Jimi which sadly they never got to play together which probably would have caused an earthquake.
There are many great guitarists, playing different styles. Roy Buchanan is my favorite. My personal opinion is that Jimi was the most over rated guitarist ever.

Stevie was one of the best blues guitarists ever to play. I saw him perform at an Austin 6th Street bar in the early 80's. All of 20 people were in the bar...he was this good already. What a treat! Legend has it that after this particular performance, Stevie's guitar stepped out back for a quick smoke. Be well, Be happy, Duke
I saw him in Amarillo with around 200 people. I only knew about him because Guitar Magazine gave him the Guitarist of the Year. He promised to give us a show to tell everyone who didn't show up what they missed. He kept that promise. Mind blown.

The style he plays is most often called electric blues or sometimes Texas blues. Imo he was the best of all time. By all reports he was as kind & humble off stage as he was beastly on stage. Eric Clapton said he was actually scared to follow him in concert, and that Stevie was an open chanel to some other worldly place and the music just flowed through him. High Praise, indeed!

I just love to see people react to SRV for the first time, especially when he goes behind his back. I was fortunate enougfh to have seen him live 3 times, and was able to meet him briefly one time and he was just amazing of a man as he was a guitar player. Very kind and very humble. RIP SRV. Thank you for the music and videos so that current and future generations will be able to see and hear you. The man may be gone, but his music continues on.

Stevie Ray Vaughan rescued the entire Blues genre. It was dying out when he came out so he put together concerts with the legendary blues players/singers and made it popular again. Look for his compilations with the great blues stars... Johnny Copeland, BB King, Albert King and also look for his team up with Jeff Healey, another special, legendary guitar player.
Great reaction! SRV is my favorite guitar player ever. I just can't get enough of him. Sadly we lost him in a helicopter crash in 1990. He was coming in to the prime of his career. He had gotten sober and was on his way to doing great things. SRV never read music and was completely self taught. His brother Jimmie Vaughan was one of his idols along with Hendrix, Albert King, and just about all of the old time blues artists. They admired him as well. He was a very humble human being. All of his live performances and great and he never played the same song the same way. Could I suggest. anything from the Austin City limits 1989 show, and "Life Without You" live from the Capital Theater. RIP Stevie 💔🎸🎶 Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that he used the thickest guitar strings possible. Very few people could do that.
I have seen this video performance a few times and I still CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES. Stevie Ray Vaughan was his name and one of his backup bands was called DOUBLE TROUBLE. I'm not sure if that's his band on this arrangement. He passed away in an helicopter crash back in August of 1990. We lost one of the greatrest guitarists of all time in that crash.

Yeah, saw him only once in my life and this was kind of what he was like. It was mesmerising to see. And a ten-minute song really doesn't feel that long when you're in his spell, does it? He had a very deep connection to his guitar and to “the blues”. One of a kind. Fun fact, he dressed like this in private too, it wasn't a stage costume for him. Outrageous and totally cool. Miss him a lot. One of the truly great guitarists of all time.

I saw Stevie LIVE twice. First was a smokey little club and second was at a big outdoor festival, both times it was like a very personal memory. Not for one minute did anybody think he was just a human, he destroyed and we were there to the end.

this may be his most popular song on youtube but my favorite stevie song is life without you. a little slower prettier song. he does everything in it. he swaps out guitars without missing a beat, adjusts his amps twice while playing, plays behind his back, strums the gutar while the strings are facing him, stops in the middle to deliver a sermon, and plucks the guitar with his teeth which results in a tooth being pulled out. i just love this song. love you guys, thanks.

This is actually a cover song recorded by Larry Davis in 1958 made famous by Stevie Ray Vaughn. SRV plays so well because his guitar is an appendage of this body, so it comes naturally. The Band is Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Stevie Ray Vaughan is the guitarist and singer, Double Trouble is his accompanying band. Stevie's brother Jimmy Vaughan is a good guitarist as well. Check out something from their album Family Style. A lot of great tracks on there as well.

Congratulations. Now you entered the big leagues😊. Some background on Stevie; he is generally considered one of the best guitarists of all time not only by the public, but also by his peers. For example, on the last performance ever before he died he was playing with Eric Clapton and a whole bunch of other legendary guitarists, and at the end of the show, he and Eric did what was called "cutting heads", basically a note 4 Note guitar battle. And at the end of the evening Eric admitted Stevie won. He is the one who is credited with bringing back blues guitar in the era when everything was disco, heavy metal, and pop. People generally go back and forth between him and Jimi Hendrix as to who was the goat. Personally I can't decide because I don't think you would have gotten a Stevie Ray Vaughan without a Jimi Hendrix, Who was one of his biggest inspirations. Here's an interesting fact about how he was discovered and by whom. He was playing the Montreux Jazz Festival in France, where he caught the eye of David Bowie. David told his friend Jackson Browne who was also in attendance, how they had to go see this guy. Jackson Browne was so impressed he offered Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble (yes that's the name of the band) that if they were ever in California they were welcome to use his Studio at no charge. Stevie was supposed to go on tour with David Bowie, but that conflicted with the time that Jackson Browne had available and they needed to record their first album. So even though it is Stevie Ray Vaughan who plays the guitar solo on Bowie's Let's Dance, he ended up not going on tour with David Bowie, and the rest is History. He was signed by the legendary John Hammond who also signed people like Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, and a whole host of other Legends. Hammond can be heard at the beginning of Stevie's live at Carnegie Hall concert album introducing him. We lost him way too young in a plane crash, just after he had cleaned up his act from battling drugs and alcohol, and getting his life right😢. (As you can tell, I am kind of a fan of Stevie's). There is no shortage of suggestions. His cover of Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child, his collaboration with Stevie Wonder on superstition, or my personal favorite when he and his all time inspiration, Albert King, teamed up to do Stevie's song "pride and joy". Albert was a pioneer of Blues guitar, one of the all-time greats, and you can see on his face the sheer Joy of knowing that he was passing that torch to Stevie. Have fun guys this is a very deep rabbit hole!

I came of age in Austin at the time Stevie was making his chops and becoming famous. Some of my fondest memories of that time was going to watxh him play at local clubs like Antone's, Hole In The Wall, Liberty Lunch etc. Even after he got big he and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, his brother Jimmie's band, would play Labor Day, Memorial Day, Christmas, and New Years Eves shows for their hometown.
Other people play music with their guitars, Stevie just let it flow from his soul through the guitar.
So many great SRV videos to watch after this. (instrumental cover of Hendrix) Little Wing, Voodoo Child, Look at Little Sister, Mary had a little lamb (Yes I said it!! lol) you will love it. All live versions, of course!

Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) is rated as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in 1990 coming back from a gig where he had played with Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy. His band was Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. SRV was based in Texas and his muses were the 3 Kings (Albert, BB and Freddy) Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters etc. He has influenced nearly every guitarist since including Chris Stapleton and John Mayer just to name a couple. An all time great!!!

You are looking at the best guitar player that there ever was. Killed in a copter crash in 1990. Stevie was a blues guitarists that was responsible for the reemergence of the blues in the 1980's. Stevie always played this way.
Everyone liked Stevie and most loved him. He was so humble about his talent which he called 'a gift from God.' Said he was working hard to repay it.

Saw him twice at Red Rocks in "Denver." Count myself and my friends soooo lucky. For my money...the best of all time. Never get sick of watching people learn about his prowess. Can't wait for heaven to see him play again...Standing Room Only for his shows there, too.
It's crazy to think that he didn't even know how to read music and only knew basic music theory, and basically self-taught himself how to play guitar and made his own style of music through the radio and with lessons from his brother who did know how to play guitar he just kept practicing and years later eventually became one of the greatest blues guitarists to ever exist just from doing what he loved, I honestly think it's amazing and he's what got me into guitar in the first place.
I was browsing youtube one night around 8-ish years ago and somehow stumbled upon Lenny, I've been entranced with guitar ever since and I'm still striving to play on the same level as Stevie.
To explain how musicians can improvise parts and solos, think of a language. You know letters make up words and words make up sentences. You don't rehearse what you're going to say throughout the day right? (with exceptions of course...like giving a speech) Well, SRV basically knows how to make his guitar speak the blues. For another great performance of his, check out "Look at Little Sister" performed at Austin City Limits. He breaks a string during the solo and with the help of his guitar tech, swaps out guitars without missing a beat!
One of the best Blues guitarist ever. Stevie would learn everyone’s style and play it perfectly. When he played his brothers riff in front of him (Jimmie Vaughan) his brother told him never play my riff again. There’s a video where he breaks a string and keeps playing and changes guitars while still playing never missing a beat!
SRV and double trouble. He was amazing. To blow you away even more, he used very thick strings and they were setup very high. Similar to an acoustic. There's a ton to know about him. He was known to superglue his fingertips back on. So he could finish a concert. RIP Stevie
There are some truly great Blues guitar players, but SRV is the GOAT. Notice that Stevie knows his way around a guitar that 95% of the time his eyes are closed. I was at the Alpine Valley concert the night he died.... it was the last concert I went to, even after all of these years, However, if I get a chance to see Dimash I wouldn't hesitate a moment.
i hope you folks get out to live music venues, blues, jazz, rock. You both seem to really appreciate GOOD musicianship.The best music isn't mainstream any longer and there is some great stuff out there. Stevie Ray is one of my top three guitarists of all time. Seen him 6 times live. Several times within 20 feet of him...while sitting behind Mr. BB KING, at the Greek Theater. He is definitely the GOAT. Trust me, everything woke up pregnant the morning after that performance ...including all the instruments that were on stage there...lol. Stevie's guitar was seen smokin a cigarette...
I was lucky enough to see Stevie five times before he passed. Stevie had this ability to go off into left field. To the point you're asking yourself where is he going with this? And he always brought it right back to home plate every single time. He was a genius.

Another guitar player you might want to check out is Jeff Healey, a blind Canadian blues player. First song to react to by Jeff is a song called Can You See the Light. Stevie Ray loved Jeff's playing so much he actually played a duo with Jeff at one of his concerts. Love the channel. Keep up the great work.

I almost never recommend live versions of songs over the studio but this is definitely one of the few that must be watched and listened to. I saw him live during this tour in a small club like this and it was freaking awesome. Give props to Double Trouble also for keeping the groove and letting Stevie do his thing. Another live version of a song that kicks ass is Ozzy Osbourne doing "Crazy Train" live in 1981. Different music for sure but awesome.

This performance is the best live guitar performance I've ever seen. I missed out on a chance to see him live in Houston in 1989 and was heartbroken the morning I heard of his passing one year later.
