    This song always brings me right back to listening to this in 1983 when I was 15 in Boston. Tripping on purple microdot mescaline with about 50 friends on the railroad tracks. We had a big boom box tons of beer and the leaves were falling because it was fall. Great song!

      i wanna party with you, dude.

    • @jackgilchrist
      @jackgilchrist 5 месяцев назад +2

      Just FYI, purple microdots are acid, not mescaline. A dose of mescaline is around 200 to 500 milligrams, and you couldn't come anywhere close to fitting that into a microdot. You could maybe fit about 5 milligrams into a microdot, and then you'd have to take 40 or more to get high. But LSD, which averages about 100 _micrograms_ (not milligrams) per dose, can easily fit in a microdot.
      I'd be real careful about taking LSD these days though, as a lot of it is some form of 25-NB, which unlike LSD is very toxic and potentially fatal. You pretty much have to really _really_ trust your source, or do an Ehrlich test to make sure. You just can't trust drugs anymore. I'm glad I quit drugs a long time ago, well before all this fake shit atarted ahowing up.
      In any case, we sure had some fun back then, huh? Well, good times, bad times...

    • @rb9628
      @rb9628 5 месяцев назад +1

      I did a dose of purple microdot and it was around 1983, too. My cousin and I went on a bicycle ride at midnight. Our plan was to find his friend and wake him up. We did, around 2am. He was not amused .

    • @MuckoMan
      @MuckoMan 5 месяцев назад

      @@jackgilchrist You are probably right but back then they called it mescaline. Another name was orange sunshine and double barrel purple micro dot. really great bass line. have never heard a guitar bridge like that before or since making it even more unique and original. Bonham's drumming is in a class by itself in this melody. As usual. And Plant brings a reference to J.R.R. Tolkein into the mix. Only several other compositions of theirs does this. Once again unique and individual.

    The honors ceremony for LZ at the Kennedy Center in 2012 was a well deserved recognition for what this band has given to the world. The pinnacle was Heart performing Stairway To Heaven. I have never seen a more moving cover than what was put together for this cover. The array of singers and musicians was almost beyond belief, a choir wearing Bowler Hats (John Bonham used to wear a Bowler Hat often), to what appeared to be a full orchestra were coreograhed in an epic manner. The icing on the cake came as a surprise to LZ, John Bonham's son Jason was playing drums (Jason had told LZ he had a previous committment and could not make it). I have never seen a better tribute in my 67 years of life! Thanks for reacting to Ramble On, a favorite of mine and many others as well.

      "Evermore" rhymes with "Pelennor," The name of the large plain (the "Pelennor Fields") where Sauron's army deployed for the Battle of Minas Tirith, in "The Return of the King."
      Amusingly, the guys who created the Faerun setting for Dungeons & Dragons included a large marsh where famous battles took place in the past.
      The "Evermoors." 😃

    In these years the new 'thing' was 4- channel sound and bands were heavily mixed from LF to RF and also included LR & RR! The sound continually swirled back & forth with headphones...it was the style of the times

    I 2nd everyone talking about the great bass lines in this song, a masterclass. The whole 2nd album has particularly great bass playing, though JPJ's always great on all the albums. Ramble On is one their great songs, but there are so many.

    The "girl" referenced in the song is actually The One Ring. The song is a tale being told from Frodo's POV.

    What's not to like? Two great reactors, Led Zeppelin, and a bit of LOTR. As others have said, got to do 'The Battle of Evermore' next. Watch out for those Ringwraiths!

    LZ1 is one of the greatest debut albums ever. Hell, it's one of the greatest albums ever for that matter. One masterful tune after another. Back in my acid days, many, many, many years ago we'd put in the eight track tape of LZ1 and forget to take it out so it looped for hours. The music was so great that in our hallucinogenic state we didn't care.
