I was long term friends with an ex. I dated his best friend as a teen and he was murdered. We kind of bonded over it and started dating later on. It was basically a case where I liked him more than he did me so it didn’t work out. We remained in touch until my husband got mad over it. We went to a race, he was there, I went to say hi, and my husband was angry and it became a whole thing and our time at the race was ruined. I don’t think some partners can handle it.

That OP with book club, I don’t think that is fair to the OP. She is happily married and her ex is last thing she is worried about and her ex is about to get married too. Why should she need permission from her ex to get his mom in book club when she wants to join by her own free will.
This just reiterates many of the issues with religion.

I think when you bring a partner into your life, you have to kind of be okay with them making friends with at least some of the people they meet through you. No matter who did what to end the core relationship, they're now just adults with a separate relationship outside of it, which is not anyone else's business.
The parents meddling in his new relationship is awful and they're being bullies to her, it sounds like she's also more than happy to be a bully, they're *all* looking for a scapegoat... OP should dump the whole family in this case 😅
