Is that yalding
Your ballerina was the backing panel for brooches sold from Woolworth's after the war. I still have one! As a child I was thrilled to have some 'real jewellery' - and we all wanted to become ballerinas!
What were the holes for? The clasp?
Hi Si, the shotgun cartridges have been cut so only the cap fires without lead or powder. Probaly used by some villian to scare people without injuring or killing them.
And, for you unfamiliar with them, the powder is in the back of any cartridge (shotgun, pistol, or rifle) next to the primer which sets it off. Not at the end like the folks mentioned.
Ah cool
Exactly what I was thinking
Modifying a shotgun cartridge is actually an offence. Loading one from scratch is fine. Taking one apart is illegal. Brain dead laws as usual.
"Cut shells" is what they are called.
"Waders of the lost Arc" 😂😂😂 I love it!
😂 good one, Christy.
Daft Wader
🤣🤣🤣
Me too, gave me a chuckle.
I’m SO happy you have both collaborated!! Kris is hilarious and a genuinely nice guy. Please, please more of this!!!
I agree!
I’ll give you one more (maybe two) 😂
In my pajamas, drinking coffee, watching you dig in the mud. Perfect Sunday.
Me too! 😁 cheers!
Enjoy!!
Raiders of the lost Lark. I’ll be here all week
Thank you for taking out the trash out helping save the wildlife 👍
Shells were obviously from a sawn off shotgun Si 😝🍻
haha!
@@Sifinds
I would speculate that the shotgun shells were cut to either destroy them or to collect the powder and primers. 🧨🎇 Thanks for sharing the adventures.
Some great finds today! Love seeing Nelson, he is so adorable! Also, thank you for doing your part for the wildlife, picking up the rubbish that is dangerous to them. Happy Easter!
My pleasure 👍🏻🐾🧡
CHRIS is hilarious! What a riot he is!!
They kept the powder and primer and discarded the wadding and pellets.
Home Made blanks
Haha! Chris needs to loosen up the suspenders on his waders!!! Then they won't be so "grabby"!!! :-)
Haha
@@Sifinds -- Hey Simon -- check with Nicola for my email address and fire me off an email please.
Really made me giggle when he said grabby 😂😂
THANK YOU for taking dangerous trash with you, as well as, treasures!
The gold leaf on the livery button made it look spectacular. Nice!
'ooo look at that pretty little cup'........coffee splattered screen!!!! That livery button looked amazing!
Cheers!!
Love from the old lady in Texas USA may God bless you always
Thank you all the way from New Zealand for caring about the wildlife and not just about finding the treasures. Been a fan of your channel for a while, it’s completely addictive and there are only a couple of you that film in a way that doesn’t make you dizzy watching. You are always so entertaining and educational. I bought myself a perfume brick after I saw one discovered on one of your expeditions to a bottle dump!
Me too, living in Auckland now but I was born and raised close to where Si does most of his mudlarking, so I get the added bonus of recognising many of the landmarks. He even speaks my lingo!
My midnight viewing of the ever awesome Si-finds 😂 Love from Australia ❤️❤️❤️
Enjoy!
🤣🤣🤣daft wader.!🤣🤣🤣
Love your videos, you have some funny friends. You have a great way of explaining each find. Thanks, Si. 😊

The chuckel, repeats, its the kind that could just get going. His face when he said "yea"; priceless. We have heard it before but none like this. Click
Once again a fab video! Chris was a fresh face for all. He was obviously rapt with his finds. Poor old Stu. Ya have ya good days and ya bad. Better luck next time. I look forward to your (and Nicola’s) vids every week.
Lol...hackie sack!...I have to say this video was hilarious...fun..
.great, Si!
Thank you!
Cool all the way around video. I really like the camera angles that the drone got that was cool too.
You're not wrong! I was just saying today, how much I want a Torpedo bottle. One of my dream finds. 🙏🕵️🌠
A slightly different kind of search, but also has interesting moments and is fun with these two nice friends of yours. The two are welcome to show up more often😉☘️💫
Having the queen's head showing on that ring, symbolises loyalty to the queen. I found one similair, showing the king's head.
So much more fun when its a group than by yourself
Another way to pick up Gold Leaf is by brushing an artist's or in my case a signwriting brush through your hair to create static to attract the leaf
The dynamic between you & Kris was fun on this one. You just seem to be one of those loveable people that brings out the best in everyone. For me, that’s one reason why I find your videos such a joy to watch. I enjoyed seeing all your finds but the makeup compact was my fav this time.
In ancient times brushes were rubbed over a cat’s back to get static electricity to pick up the gold leaf. A red base coat is always used on wooden frames to get a rich and lustrous gold color.
Hey Si! Your friend Chris was so fun, what a character! You need to play a trick on Nicola with the gold penny! TFS Hugs!
Chris just seems like the guy you’d want to be with at a BBQ. When everyone else has gone to bed, there you’d be just chilling with Chris, 2am still cooking burgers and still drinking! Laughing your heads off!
I dig that!
Good morning, I love watching your videos Si, this morning I watched you making a bowl from driftwood, loved the cat and the chickens, you make it all look so easy!
Happy Easter from Washington State 🌺🌸🌼🌻 my favorite find today was the livery button and the history of them!!! Thank you for another fun video!!!
Kiss Nelson for me 🙂
Kathy
Will do. Cheers Kathy
You don't want to get a wet sack 😆😆 that torpedo bottle looked great, a lovely find
Absolutely awesome and amazing Si, loved the whole kit and kaboddle, excellent as always Si. Till the next mud venture, stay safe. 🇨🇦🤗🐘🍁👣
Saw pictures of you and the other canal cleaning volunteers on the BBC today!
Saw it also, in 🍁 Canada!
Epic!
@@Sifinds Much of formal history is based on what high-status people do, what I love about mudlarking is that it reveals so much about what common people (like most people throughout history) were doing and what they cared about or created. I didn't expect to see the faces of the folks who've brought me so much entertainment when I clicked on the BBC pictorial. Love it!
Great video.
Just going to point out that the bit on your spade which you said was a bottle opener is actually for cutting string, fishing line, those beer can plastic ring things, etc. You would use it by hooking the string and pulling. The tool at 31:25 has your bottle opener on it.
Have fun playing in the mud - I'm totally jealous of you!
💚🐇🐴💚
17:10 someone has harvested the powder and primers from those shotgun shells, all that's left in the parts you found is the shot and wadding. Someone has definitely been up to no good
I'd have to agree, someone was after the powder and possibly the primers for whatever reason.
Hmm 🤔
I enjoyed seeing a new area that you've visited, thanks! Coincidentally, I'm from Stoneham (bottle name), near Boston, MA, and my father made clocks and gilded the wood, in, of all places, our kitchen, where we dared not breathe or talk! He would cut the gold into small squares and apply them with a brush, using the same technique of running the brush over the back of his hand before picking up the gold. Then he'd apply it to the wood, often a bit of carved wood, and dab it with the brush and then use a curved bit of polished agate in a handle (a burnishing tool) to rub the gold in and smooth it out. The agate sort of polished the gold. I recently watched your older video of making a clay pipe; you did a great job! Have you seen this from, the Shropshire Star, video called "Rex Key demonstrates how he make clay pipes" - sorry, i don't know how to add the link so you can search by the title. He uses clay and an old mold. 🌞
Thanks yeah he uses the traditional method, that’s easy. Try making one from scratch! 😉
That's why yours was so impressive, and it even worked!
They are all so beautiful with the gilding on good job😊
Best way to start the day with Simon and coffee. Happy Easter Si.🇨🇦☮️
Awesome!
I remember getting in trouble for doing that to cartridges to get black powder, it makes a great fire starter for use with a striker.....
Cool!
I thought they might have fired just the firing cap kinda like a blank?
Awesome finds guys. I hope you picked up all the little pieces of gold leaf as it can be reused. Happy Easter and god bless and stay safe and well. Darn awesome spade/tools, hello Nelson you little cutie 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️ this is for Nelson 🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️
Si, thanks for sharing your exploration of canals. Never know, which adventure will hold the greatest treasure.... It's all about *Getting Some🧡Luck in the Muck!*
Spot on Dudds!! Cheers dude!
That makeup item was the best find. If you google it, they belong in museums!!! It’s from the 1920s!!
Loved the newbie mudlarkers! Chris was funny and sure he had great fun. That torpedo bottle! 😱
The gilding craft was awesome. Loved that compact. Great video. Stay safe. 🦋
Thank you!!
@@Sifinds
Just picked up some of your paste jars!!!!! So excited to actually hold one! Thx. 🦋
@@sisD Yay! Thank you!!
I am addicted to Kris' bleeps....and his giggles. The gold leafing turned out great! Always good to see Nelly.
Cheers!!
Too bad that flowerpot was plastic, it had a nice design. Chris is in for a treat today. That sign is in pretty good condition for being under water, and it’s age. Really nice find Chris had with farthing ring. Cute little lamb pin, maybe for a little girls hat or cloak? Lol, wet sack, reminded me of my irritating but much loved brothers. Nice little ballerina. Great little compact but small, rouge maybe? Great video with interesting finds and wonderful companions. Happy Easter 🐣 🐇 💐
Thanks Coni
Aww I love Nelson. 💙
I really enjoy canal and fields larking...oddball finds that do not usually, see the light of day!
Love the compact, before and after the gilding and of course the torpedo bottle! (even though it wasn't your find, Si)
Thanks for the tag-along - love from Denmark 🌸💕
Cheers Z
What a first lark he had!
Right??!
I love that you're taking out crap that could potentially harm wildlife. Thank you!
The pump you found was what is known as a semirotery wing pump. It is a marine pumps as you suggested. It is used for pumping fuel, bildges etc. Interestingly enough, these pumps were also used in the out islands of the Bahamas for pumping house hold water. Water was collected from the roof, and stored in big concrete cisterns. The water was pumped from the cistern using these pumps. Some had the water directly feed into the kitchen sink where they would pump it as needed. In our house it was we would pump it up into a tank upstairs in the attic once a day. Then we had a spiggot in the kitchen sink, so all we had to do was turn on the tap as we needed it, like in modern kutchens. Later on we installed a shower with a tank on the roof, painted black so the sun would warm the water. We would pump the water into that tank with the same kind of pump.
The pump you found was missing it's wooden handle, that looked like a little baseball bat. I can remember as a child this job of filling the tanks was one if our chores. So that pump you found brought back many happy memories of living on this tiny island. If you go back for it, you just might be able to restore it.
Cool info cheers! I’ll leave this one for the river I think
Wow I've how you Gold leafed the coin, button, pin and compact and that shovel with all its bits is fantastic! Great video and thanks 🙂
Kris is adorable! Lol. Like a kid in the mud. His enthusiasm is wonderful.
Chris is a character!!
This was great. Such a fun opportunity to lark in the river bed. Loved the gilding process. First prize, the Art Deco makeup compact. Jeez Simon. Your poor hands. Hope your cut finger heals up very soon. Best regards as always from South Africa 🇿🇦💫
Thanks Georgie. Yes I was careless with a very sharp saw! What a tit I am 😂
17.10 its great to see kris out with you . Another cracking video bro. Totally enjoyed watching you Legends 🤜🏻🤛🏻thks again for sharing. TC SS GL&HH
Blimey, its sunday already. The sheep pin is sweet, So was the Torpedo bottle. Great finds today. Happy Easter. Stay safe :)))
Cheers Adam!
You got some hilarious friends!!!😂🤍🤍
• Bottle of Pop: BoP
• Curtain' hook 😊
That goat pin is lush
There were three mucklateers having some massive amounts of fun. Really wanted you to take the sign & pump!
NELSON 🐱🐱🐱🐈🐈🐈
Happy Easter Si!
Mucklateers is a great word; you need to trademark it!
Thanks! Sorry not today 😂
Saw Kris was back and gave a like straight away. Dream team!
Whoop whoop!
Oh yey! I love kris from addicted to bleeps
Chris, with the Beginner's Luck! Well done. I bet you're hooked now! Guess you'll have to bring him along again, Si. Thanks as always for the video.
Was so happy to see you had posted. Kris seems like a fun guy to go mudlarking with. Great finds and love the gold leaf work, well done. That shovel is amazing and def worth taking on your travels in the future. Thanks for great video Si xxx
Cheers Gaynor!
Just read about you all mudlarking on the emptied river on the bbc news pages and seen a photo of you. Xx
the sheep pin is a promotion for Youngs brewery
Kris' enthusiasm made me very happy!!
This was such a cool video to watch!! I wish we had canals like that. It would be so much fun. I sometimes think about the creeks that we have here and when there’s too much snow up in the mountains and when it melts, it makes the creek or the river that’s right near us, water level get quite higher. I just wonder what could be down there but it’s not going to be like England, that’s for sure.😆
I think I have the same compact that you found. I bought four compacts off of an elderly lady that was selling off all her vintage collection. It’s the basket of flowers that I love so much that was on the front. You did such a great job on gold leafing(?) the coin, and the compact. I’m so impressed by your art work!!
Thank you for another great video!!🌊🐬
Darth Wader!! Cracked me up!!!🤣
Loved watching you apply the gold leaf. Well done.
Thanks!
You've got the most funny friends 😂👍🏻
Chris is awesome. More Chris please.
Loved this one!!! Great friends, great finds, and great crafting! Thanks for sharing:)
When you looked at the pump, did you see the heart shaped stone, how appropriate to find a lamb for Easter, gold fun yay. Awesome luck in the muck.🇨🇦🐘🍁🍀
Oh yeah! 🐑
Happiest Easter to you Si, Nelson🐾 and Chicken Girls 🐓🐓🐓😊!!!
Congratulations Kris 🙌🏻👍🏻!!! Some really fascinating and marvelous finds.
Really great gold leaf segment, So🙌🏻. Favorite find🤔...👍🏻 definitely the Livery button and the FABULOUS victorian compact(it looks so beautiful with the gold leaf💗).
😊🤭😘
Thanks Juliet!!
Well, that was a fantastically manly video. Loved it!
I burst into laughter when I saw the tape on your finger. 😂 My husband is the king of electrical tape. “Merely a flesh wound!”
Enjoying your adventures. 🇨🇦
Haha. Normal plasters aren’t any good! Leccy tape is a must
That Art Deco Compact is lovely even more so with the newly applied gold leaf that you have added to it 😍
Agreed, I loved it.
Thanks Marina!
To make the design stand out on the compact, paint some thin black acrylic paint over the top, and wipe it off while still wet. The paint will stay in the dips, while the gold will be shiny and beautiful.
Im catching up the videos . Great video Si , great collaboration . Stay well guys .
27.53 love the work on the button & coinage 🤜🏻🤛🏻
The gold gilding turned out fantastic, love that idea! Love all the finds!
Thanks Jenny!
Well done with the gold gilding. The objects look fantastic 😊😚
Thank you x
take the gold scraps and incorporate them into your resin projects. I think that would be cool.
The shotgun shells were cut to get just the gunpowder. With enough you could make fire crackers or even a bomb (sad to say)
Cheers Gayle!
Si, if you put a thin wash of brown/black paint over the gold leaf and wipe away, it brings out the detail and gives an aged look
This was really a fun mudlark. You and Chris are so hilarious. And of course the amazing finds.
Hi simon and friends from New Zealand.
Awesome wee finds today.
You sure do search some interesting places.
Torpedo bottle is cool. I also collect old bottles, found a few in the back yard recently.
Top marks on the gold leaf upcycling Si!
Top find has to be the ram pin.
Thanks for the adventure ,until the next one, Cheers.
Thanks Andrew!!
Happy Easter
Mudlarking looks like so much !
Nelson is a good kitty 😺
It looks like that shovel blade can be locked in a 90 degree angle like the old military trenching tools, very handy. Thanks for another great video.👍
It can you’re right
Chris is a laugh. Great bloke. I don't trust Amazon, im still waiting for an item I ordered and paid for in February 2020.
Complain and demand a refund
Stopper was a good find
Definitely recommend doing any leafing in a non draughty room as you said Si,
As my mum decided ( years ago ) to gilt some old book spines with the patio doors open!!!!
Everything was covered in fine gold speckles even the bloody dog and cat lol
Haha!!
Si-finds Thames Mudlark I bet you soon put gold leaf speckles in resin , I'd love to see you do that.
Like 34 Amazing finds, the ring the Victorian Botton, the coins wow 😀🤛
Cheers dude!
Your gold leafing endeavors went well! The torpedo bottle was sweet! Overall, a fun, productive day with friends. Cheers!
Thanks Cindy!
Wow what an adventure ! So much area with lots of good finds ..the Hamilton was my fave and the fork the badge ..the button then the gun ...Awsome place ! Regards Adrian and Simon Dorset.
Loved the clean up on this one. Another new skill learned by SI. Well done, the gold items looked amazing
