Poison bottles contained anything toxic to people, such as strong cleaning solutions, not necessarily poison that killed things. Some bottles are embossed with 'Not to be taken' meaning - do not ingest. The bottles were also brightly coloured and had ribbed or studded sides - so if you were a Victorian stumbling around in the dark you could feel which bottle had dangerous chemicals in. To see another rare and unusual poison bottle I found click here ruclips.net/video/gLnc4-nZ9aM/видео.html
I feel like the colour and patterns on the bottles were also aimed at people who couldn’t read, not just for those fumbling in the dark. Also blind people would have been able to identify them by the ribs, crosshatches, and studs.
@@suetaylor5186 We have a small dump at the corner of our property .. for the bottles I find in there, I use warm water and denture cleaning tablets (smashed up a bit for the narrow necks).

having worked in a glass factory that made bottles and jars, they add metals and minerals to get glass to different colors. No dyes Cobalt for deep blue, gold for red (at least in the old days). Manganese for purple and Chromium for dark greens to black. That just the beginning...
Been reading some of the other comments. People have a wealth of real interesting knowledge and so happy to share. It was interesting to find how glass is coloured.
I clean bottles with rice which scrapes the dirt off without scratching the glass. Half fill with warm soapy water, add a teaspoon of uncooked rice and shake well. Rinse in clean water. For stubborn muck, fill with hot water to the neck, add a denture tablet and leave for couple of hours then rinse. I know you probably have your own ways Si, but if they don't work then try these.
That Milk glass bottle was very nice to find. Never knew there were milk glass bottles, only knew about the jars lol. Well I have learned something today 😂 Thank you
Quite the bottle dump permission 😲🙌🏻🙌🏻!!!! You gents probably could have spent DAYS digging out lots of treasure 😉. 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Way to go Kev.!!!! Great beauty in the the Lysol bottle, never seen another on any mudlarking channels. Those raised side decorations will really ✨ sparkle ✨ on a shelf in the sunshine 🌞. 😊🤗🤭😘
Timeless beauty in what were ordinary, everyday objects. I can only imagine the anticipation you feel as you unearth each piece. The backstory on the Balsam was quite interesting. It's shocking what people in their pursuit of profit, were willing to do and saddening what people in their desperation were willing to accept. Perhaps things never really change. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Until next time. Much love.
Loved the curious horses at the end. I was detecting and on my knees digging a hole in an English pasture and when I looked up, three horses were also looking in my hole.
I love going on these adventures with you and your friends. Lots of beautiful finds. If I were there y'all would have had to dragged me out of there! Keep up the good work Si. 😘

I just can't believe that in England, you can go to places that you'd never think had " Treasure" in it until you start to dig and out pops these beautiful bottles and containers. The wine container that was found at the very end is so beautifully shaped and surprise!! A beautiful design on the glass as well!!!😍😍😍 What great finds Si!! How long did it take the spot on your face to go down? It looked sore. Thanks for another great video Si!!😍😍
Absolutely fabulous, what a location! Never dug and full of treasure, I hope you go back there and film again. Those bottles are amazing, I could watch you digging all day. Well done boys, top video
That green poison bottle is lovely. As was the holly with it’s bright red berries. Guardian worm guarding a lovely blue bottle, 😆😆. That little bottle with the stopper was nice. That’s a large toothbrush. Oh, that amber bottle is lovely, tactile decoration. But the wine carafe at the end was just fantastic. I love to hear the history behind the finds.
Si, you find the best bottles in the muck. My brother and I used to dig bottles out of the river muck in my father's yard here in Florida. He has all the large ones and I have the tiny ones. Thanks Si, have a wonderful week.
You should let your friend know about the wonderful bottle paintings done by Sarah (partner of dirty secrets of Scotland channel). What a great bottle dig. I imagine myself with my fork, doing what my mom called the little pee-pee dance when we were little, every time I turned over anything with an unusual color or shape. Eating my lunch and dinner sitting in the mud and stumbling back to the car, in the dark through the Holly and Nettle bushes. I swear I could watch these old dump dig videos for hours. Thanks for taking me along again on another dig!
